I am currently working on my hardwood floors at home and it is a DIY project. After staining the floors myself I went to another flooring store looking for a finish that would not take away from the color of the floors but still provide an great durable finish. The first flooring store I went to was bot helpful at all. They it seemed they were more annoyed that I was in there and not a flooring specialist who is looking for a particular product. The whole experience was very rushed and not a good Customer service experience. Needless to say I ended up with a product that was more for a pro then a DIY guy like myself. Which is why I ended up having to find another flooring store for another finish. The experience with A-American custom flooring was like night and day. When I first walked in I asked where I could find floor finishes and immediately, one of the guys behind the front counter pointed me in the direction and asked if I needed help. The help I got was not what I was expecting at all. As I stated before, I explained that I had just stained my floors and was trying to preserve the color of the stain and not mask it with the gloss from the floor finish. I also explained I bought a previous matte finish from another store but was not satisfied with the gloss it left behind (will post pics to explain with this post). He was very receptive to the information, and was extremely helpful. I explained the situation and told him I needed a simple quality finish that is very user friendly. He looked up various products for me, and made several suggestions. He also went as far as looking up the finish I got from the first place, and broke down exactly how it was supposed to be used. Unfortunately, the mixing I did on my own had gone bad and I needed a new finish all together. I hate the fact that I did not get the guys name because I can't give him the credit he deserves during the whole experience. He ultimately suggested a product that was exactly what I was looking for. A lower matte finish, very user friendly, easier to apply, and no mixing involved. While I was in there there was also a mom and her kids being helped by another woman and it seemed they were receiving the same exceptional customer service that I was getting. I ended up kicking myself for not coming here first. They could have saved me some trouble and money. This place has definitely won a customer for life. If you are ever in the market for anything flooring, it wouldn't hurt to give this place a try. read more

I went to A American a couple of times through my remodel for various reasons. I got an estimate on granite from them for my counter. I found it about $1k higher than other estimates I received on the same stone. Their selection is also pretty limited, and you will have to go to a yard elsewhere to view the stone, so if you're able to explore options outside of the city, I would highly recommend it. I checked out some backsplash tile here that I thought based upon a website picture I would like (note: they have a very funky website when it comes to perusing items; was never able to figure that out). In person, the tile was not what I expected, either visually or price wise. I did take it home to think about it, but had to pay $20 to get a sample. Got a refund when I brought it back, but just worth noting, they're not liberal with samples like Tile Outlet. All in all, the backsplash tile was more expensive than warranted. I came back another time with sort of an emergency floor tile situation. I will say A American has a very large selection of floor tiling. They also have some available in stock, which is sadly a rarity. I didn't really find anything I liked however, and what was workable was about $4 a square foot, so not great price wise either. Looking through all of their boards can get a bit overwhelming. I would not say A American should be avoided, but after having been in there several times, I found the staff not to be particularly helpful or welcoming, and the price though reasonable for the most part, was not particularly impressive. read more

The Caesarstone (Frosty Carrina) quartz countertops from A-American are gorgeous. Ryan was so helpful throughout the process and gave me prompt quotes on several different materials (I also considered Corian, quartzite, and other brands of quartz). Ryan was very communicative throughout. The final price was quite reasonable, and in-line with the big box stores, but the service at A-American is leaps and bounds ahead. A-American was also more competitive than other installers. The installation went smoothly. The joinder of the two pieces of quartz is almost invisible. The material is proving to be very durable, and I love the full height backsplash that is so easy to clean (no grout!). The light color with the very subtle marble-like pattern provides a great contrast to the natural oak cabinetry, and completes the modern but classic look. read more

Deciding it was time to replace my formica kitchen countertops, I went to the big box stores who nickel and dime you and force you to be your own contractor taking on much responsibility. Then I talked to another company that handled everything but charged 2-3x more. Then I found A-American which had a great showroom, although the staff were not especially welcoming. I meandered and then a man asked if I needed help, and provided quick assistance knowing his products. The price was great and there were no hidden charges whatsoever. And, bonus, the granite I chose happened to be on special. It was installed today quickly and efficiently and looks great. Would use again. read more

They have a very big selection of tile there so, it is easy to get lost. But if you need tile for the floor - you will certainly find there something you like. I think, they have the largest selection in Chicago. The prices for the tile are reasonable, although surely not bargain prices like in the outlet in Fullerton. But again, they have very big selection. On the negative side, though, there are no prices. So, you have to ask the manager every time you like something to give you a quote which takes him a while. There is only one manager and in case there are also other customers, you will have to wait until the manager is free, just to figure out which tiles are in your price range. Very inconvenient and bad for their business. Product with a price tag on it sells better, why not put prices everywhere? On week days the shop is almost empty, so it is good to go there to find what you want. read more

Huzzah for A-American! We already had our countertops installed from somewhere else (Interior of Stone - also very good), but we wanted just one small additional countertop for a spare corner. We couldn't get our original guys to call us back and build the thing, but Alin at A American was quick and super. He took such care with the details, which you don't always find with a small job. We went to the Lincolnwood location, which had a great display of flooring and tile, etc. Too bad we don't need any more countertops, but we'll use them when we replace the next floor! read more

This is the place to go if you need to replace a countertop. I hired them to replace a large complicated (curved) windowsill spanning 9 high-rise windows. They nailed it. Everything went smooth. Great showroom with lots of samples. They provide the whole process of measuring and installing the countertop too. Scheduling was easy and workmanship was top quality. I am very pleased with A-American. Alex was knowledgeable and easy to contact throughout the project. I would definitely use them again. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Joseph in their Irving Park location is completely disrespectful and flat out lied to my GC and I. I had to live in a hotel for a month because they sold me wood that could not be installed in my place despite specific instructions from my contractor. He legitimately just wanted to make more money by upselling us on far more expensive options. We had to go to a whole new company in the 11th hour and rush the order. The customer service is abysmal - I must have spoken to over 5 people in two locations to fix my issue and they would do it - and they still tried to charge me! I highly recommend you go anywhere else. I will say the people at AB Hardwood were great though! Completely helpful and saved our renovation project! read more

My husband and I hired A-American Custom Flooring to replace our countertops and windowsills, and the quality of the work was so bad that the word "quality" shouldn't even be used. The countertops and windowsills they installed were not level, and the Corian was flawed, with white dusty smudges embedded within it. The workers also left huge gaping spaces between the Corian and the original surfaces, and they were so large that I could actually fit my entire hand and part my arm inside. Nothing looked "finished" when they left. The edges of the Corian weren't smooth, and the pieces didn't fit together correctly. In addition, there was some sort of adhesive or something all over the place. When we contacted the sales person and the manager about the problems, it took them three days to respond. And when they finally came out to look at the work, they told us that our job wasn't a "9-1-1 situation." They also told us that there was nothing wrong with the Corian or the work they had done. They blamed the huge gaping spaces on the fact that the surfaces under the Corian weren't level. What? So...they'd place Corian on top of surfaces that weren't level? Wouldn't they either make them level or tell us that we had to hire someone to make them level before they could complete the install? The manager at A-American Custom Flooring was rude to say the least. We went back and forth many times for a couple of weeks during which my husband and I could not use our kitchen since it was torn apart and since our new sink not been hooked up. In the end, the manager agreed to send his guys over to rip out the work they had done. Luckily, the sales person had neglected to collect a down payment from us at the time we placed the order because we would've had a very difficult time getting them to refund it. On the other hand, they never even tried to bill us after the fact, and they shouldn't have because they didn't do good work and because they removed what little (shoddy) work they had done anyway. Once they were finally out of our home for good, we hired a big box store, which contracted with a local company to install our countertops and windowsills. We didn't have any problems with the big box store or with their local partner. These companies also didn't claim that our surfaces weren't level. Instead, everything went perfectly and everything looked beautiful. We should have certainly gone to the big box store in the first place. read more

Andrew of A American is our HERO. He was first class from start to finish when we used his company for getting granite countertops installed in our new kitchen. He squeezed us in for an estimate, hung around at their warehouse the same evening so that we could pick out a slab, and three days later we were getting granite installed! And good lord did we get a nice slab!! We couldn't have been happier with our experience dealing with him. He helped us out a lot, gave us good advice, and the installation was quick and efficient. The installers were really nice and professional, and came back the same day when the weight of the granite caused a panel to shift on our bar and fixed the problem with no hassle whatsoever. Andrew oversaw the whole thing from start to finish and was easy to reach whenever we had questions or needed something. This is a great place where you can find most major surface brands. They are unlike Home Depot where you have one or two options for flooring and you must search the whole warehouse to find some help. A-American provides affordable top quality products with many choices. Don't forget these guys are not a franchise, they are local and affordable. Working with Junior at AA we had a great experience. He was very patient as we agonized over floor types and stains/finishes over multiple visits. We decided on a floor they didn't have in stock that was custom made and got it delivered very quickly to meet our deadlines. They are very knowledgeable about floors and floor finishes and we ended up with beautiful 7.25" solid white oak planks from Sheoga, with a simple water based clear stain. We worked with Junior and he couldn't have been more professional, courteous and competent. He beat out the price of a place that bills itself as a wholesaler by more than $3/SF for our wood flooring and after checking multiple sources, A-Am proved to be by far the lowest price around. And when you're installing nearly 1,500 SF of new flooring that amounts to thousands of saved dollars. That earned our 1st star. Junior kept us in the loop on our product delivery and when we learned our original flooring installation contractor wouldn't do the job for his original quote, Junior came through with a great referral. He followed-up with us regularly up including after final payment and after the job was done to ensure our satisfaction. We also used A-American for our quartz countertops and they were once again exceptional in all regards. They beat our first quote from the alleged "wholesaler" by almost $3,000 (and A-Am's quote including a new stainless steel double sink) as well as quotes by several others. Called Mr. Capalnas and he came when he said he would. Gave good recommendations as to what we needed in a countertop for our condo. We chose Corian and he agreed to install it before the 4th of July. Mr. Capalnas called and said his installer would be there Saturday AM. The installer came as stated and was done in approximately 3 hours. The job looks good and we are very pleased. The price was very good and overall the experience was very positive. We have dealt with Chicago people before who would be late or not return calls etc. none of that here. Would recommend Mr. Capalnas and this company to others. read more
