Mike was very responsive and quick to finish the project unlike other contractors I have encountered. His team was done in 5 days if i am not mistaken. They finished earlier than expected without compromising the quality. I was initially planning to do LVPs only but after talking to him, Listening to the pros and cons. We decided to do hardwood in the first floor and stairs, restaining the bedrooms. LVP on the basement. He is honest and will give you the best advice not just to make money. We had a floor leveling issue in which a room was part tile over cement and part carpet over hardwood, with the tiled part being higher than the carpeted part. We wanted to remove the tile, level the entire floor, and have hard wood flooring throughout the room. This was a challenge for the other contractors and flooring people who came out to give estimates. However, Mike of Mike's flooring came out and immediately knew how to implement a plan of action. I own residential property in Chicago which is over 100 years old and once had beautiful hardwood floors throughout. However, by the late 2010s, the floors were sadly past their prime and those glory days were but a distant memory. Over a century of neglect, changing tastes, and numerous remodels, past owners took the easy way out by replacing missing sections of flooring with plywood, ignoring basic upkeep, and simply covering up the damage (aka their crimes) with wall-to-wall carpet. Blasphemy I say! This trend shall have no place in a city where Mike and his team from Mike's Hardwood Flooring heroically fight back restoring one hardwood floor at a time! Every week, they courageously repair the damage caused by the cheap landlords and cut-rate contractors from Chicago's dark past! Lol...in all seriousness, I've used Mike several times now to refinish my existing hardwood floors as well as repair hardwood flooring that was damaged decades ago and hidden by carpet. I'm anti-carpet / pro-hardwood floor :) Over the past few years, Mike has restored all of the hardwood flooring in my own home as well as in several of my rental units to their former glory! As for Mike himself...he's responsive, knowledgeable, forthright, kind, and down-to-earth. Despite my eagerness to restore as much of the original wood as possible, Mike will actually take the time to discuss options and do a cost-benefit analysis (including the extent/history of damage, type of wood, the science, and labor involved, etc.). Although much of my original flooring remains, it could not always be done economically. Mike doesn't try to upsell you and rightfully steered me towards a less expensive option (of new hardwood) for a better result two weeks before posting this review. Which I very much appreciated! There's a lot good to excellent here: First, Beni is one of the nicest, most efficient and hardworking tradesmen who has ever done work in my house. You'll be very fortunate if he does your flooring. I had figured on three days for the project and they finished in 1 1/2 days. And my flooring looks great. They ripped out my old 1980s carpet and vinyl flooring and replaced it with luxury vinyl flooring. I agree with the post that estimated that $10,000 of additional value was added to my home. The team replaced the floor board trim and a toilet valve. If I have one critique, it's that a wall was damaged in the process of moving things around. Beni did his best to fill it, but I think the company could pay for the repair. Otherwise, I think customers will be really happy with Mike's and the job they do. I cannot express how much I appreciate the Mike's Hardwood Flooring team. I used their services for the first time back in 2013 to redo the floors in place I had just moved in to (which were so bad my realtor was pretty sure they would all have to be replaced). Mike's did a fabulous job on them and managed to sand them down in a quick time frame, so of course they were the first folks I thought of for a new project that popped up this spring after a sewer back up damaged our floors. Of course this is never an ideal situation to be in, but the Mike's team made it as smooth as possible. They were fast, the price was great, and the new floors look AMAZING. I was also thrilled they were able to help lay some new tile and drywall down in our laundry closet (where the flooding started, which all had to be replaced after the mitigation team removed all the damage). When we purchased our house, the original hardwood floors had been covered in carpeting for 30+ years and the former owners were very heavy smokers. The finish was peeling up in several locations. Mike's Hardwood was able to remove all the damage from tobacco and the carpeting installation and make our 60 year old floors look brand new in just a few days! They were good at the start then we started to notice spots all over were the dropped stain and the stain is uneven. We contacted them and they told us we should have paid for better wood and we are lucky we got it good as we did. They also charge to come back out to fix anything. Thanks to Yelp for the recommendation here, and the ability to get quotes I was able to find these guys and they were outstanding. My floors look great and they even did some extra stripping, sanding, and staining of our banister and mantle so they all match too (per my wife's persuasion). I was really pleased with the straight forward process working with these guys, and they quoted me a fair price for my whole house. They offered a wide range of stain options and styles. They even met me at my place of work to finalize the payment and such, and were more than accommodating on start date. Few things I REALLY liked about these guys tho: Came in a gave us samples, enough to satisfy my wife - which was an outstanding 6-7 stains! We eventually went with the Jacobean which I hear is the rage these days. They did the whole house, with a week or so, both floors plus the banister and mantel (which we stripped most ourselves). The last bit was the clean up. I was surprised how little saw dust remains I found throughout. Obviously there was some dust, but nothing like I've heard about with other vendors when they sanded the floor. So that is A+ work there. I would recommend any day. Thanks! read more

We chose Mikes due to the great reviews, but I did NOT have the same experience! The two good points were 1. he came in on a very tight timeline, which was wonderful. 2. The floors itself also looks good, but that's due to his crew. The positives stop there though. After the floors were done, we came in the apartment to take a look and there was stain ALL OVER the shoe moulding. In every room, all the way up. Additionally, when I called to figure the situation out (calmly, like an adult), Mike yelled and blamed ME for the problem. I guess I was supposed to know that I would have to totally redo my trim after the floors- NOT something we discussed. Condescending, lecturing, rude- I've never been treated this way by a tradesman, let alone anyone else I've ever worked with. It got to the point that he realized I wasn't backing down and he knew I would have to totally repaint/replace the shoe moulding because it looked horrible. 1000 stars if I could give him!!! This is my first time writing a review like this because I always thought it was such a wasting time BUT Mike and his crew deserved it. I had a really bad experience with my contractor, he messed up my Brazilian red cherry floors ( I didn't like the red color, I wanted dark brown or ebony but still wanted to keep this floor so he painted the whole floor in dark espresso which I couldnt see the beautiful woodgrain anymore) I decided to hire a floor professional to fix it. I called several of them to give me a quote (2 of them tried to overcharge me by pushing so hard to do lots of changes and I said No). I called Mike to come give me an estimate for re-stain the floor. He responded in minute and setup time to come look at the floors in my house. He measured, explained,and quoted me a very fair price. It was reasonable and cheaper than what I had paid to the contractor who beated up my floor, so I said YES. Mike and his crew came back around 8am the next day to start. He told his guys what to do and pointed them what to beware of (I just had my painting done at that time).They took about 4 days to finished the jobs I came back to my house on Sunday morning and I was blown away by the change. They did a very very very incredible job. I could see the woodgrain on my floor (it was painted by the amateur contractor before) Mike and his guys worked very hard to make our floor looked perfect and was exactly what we wanted. They were professional, patient, and timely. After when the project was done. We moved all the furnitures into the house and my movers did left a huge scratch on my floor, i called Mike again and he came to my house right away to see how bad it was. He sent his guys out next day to fix it and also helped us took all the garbage (such as boxes and all plastic covers that came with all the furnitures) to throw them in his dumpster. Mike and his crew were trustworthy, hard workers who will respond to you almost immediately. On top of it, they did a beautiful job. Before Mike and his team came in, our wood floors were creaking and looked very worn. We also were in a rush because we wanted to get this job done before our moving truck moved our stuff in, making it much more difficult to fix the floors. Mike was very accommodating to this schedule. The job was done over a swift three day period with amazing quality. The creaks were gone and the floors looked beautiful.
