A few years ago we had Mr. Floor come to our condo to fix a previous contractors sins. It ended up being a re-Gut of a master and guest bathrooms in the west loop. High end finishes which included heated floors, heated towel bars, hanging Toto bidet toilets, and all kohler fixtures. My wife and I supplied the fixtures since we'd already paid for them with the previous contractor. We never questioned the costs quoted because we were desperate since we had to live in our space during construction. Mr Floor was recommended from a close friend. We knew the prices were on the high side, but wanted reliable quality work so we went for it. $80-$90,000 later we were done. This included some other minor items but the bulk of the work was the bathrooms. The work was good, but the tile cutting was sub standard and rough. We were told it was the type of tile we chose. We disagreed and found out later a sharp blade and type of saw minimizes rough cuts. Makes sense! At the price point we were at, the tile should have been perfect. The base was poor as well. We felt the project manager should have had a solution that was suitable for the high end project. Instead, he made due with cutting time and it didn't look good! We felt he should have found a better solution that looked professional and not pieced together. Fast forward to today. We contact the company to install hardwoods in our bedrooms. We communicated with the company owner that we would like to use Mr floor but we will wait until we leave for our Florida home to have the work done. In the meantime, we would appreciate if Mr Floor would assist with a small job of installing new cabinet hardware in our kitchen. Well, apparently loyalty isn't Mr Floors MO because they were unable to assist unless we had floors installed simultaneously. We were quoted $900 which seems fair, but we were confused why the company could not install the hardware now rather than wait for the floor project. Mr Floor refinished the wood floors in my condo after a radiator leak a few years ago. The building (and the floors) are from 1921. They did a great job and for such an old floor, they look great. I did end up having to replace the baseboards due to the stain, but this is typical with a floor refinish and stain, so was not unexpected. A few years later I noticed an area was sunken in around a large radiator, causing one of the boards nearby to pop up at the end about 1/4 inch. Aaron came out, examined the area, and tested the moisture levels to rule out issues with the radiator. He explained how the original floor was build and that the support board underneath the floorboards was no longer providing the support needed for the heavy radiator. I happen to be renting out the condo in a couple weeks, and he suggested it may not be worth fixing at this time, since the solution is somewhat complicated but the situation is not urgent. If I were to move back in, I would look at getting it fixed. I recommend Mr Floor and would definitely call them for another project. read more

We have used Mr. Floor twice. Once a few years ago to screen and refinish a condo floor. The floors were old, discolored, creaky and highly waxed. Mr. Floor did the entire condo and the floors came out beautifully! Creaks were fixed by replacing a few boards. Recently, Mr. Floor removed carpeting and refinished the LR and DR floors in our new place. The floors were in very bad condition with big stains and lots of scuff marks and some unevenness. Mr. Floor sanded and coated them and while they don't look new (they are 123 years old floors), they do look excellent! So happy with the outcome! Service is top notch. Mr. Floor is quick to respond and on time. They review all details with the customer - including showing a test spot with finish so the customer approves the floor color before they start the job. They provide an honest assessment of the condition of the floors and what can be done with them. As for price, it is basically in line with o quotes from other contractors. Highly recommended. We were getting the birch floors refinished on our new condo and called 5 contractors for estimates. We ended up going with Mr. Floor and have absolutely no regrets. Igor came out to give the estimate, he was professional and informative, immediately setting Mr. Floor apart from the rest. We were on a fairly tight schedule to refinish before our move-in date and Mr. Floor was able to start the same week unlike some of the other options. The final estimate was competitive. (We got a couple lower bids, but they were really unresponsive with our questions and unprofessional in their manner) Request Joe as your Project Manager! He did a great job in addressing our concerns and informing us of what to expect. We're new to hardwood floors so clear communication is really important to us. Joe gave very thorough end of day emails and recapped all of our verbal communication so it was on 'paper.' It made us feel confident in their promises. And the actual sander and sealer, Jerry and his partner, were excellent. We were told that he was the best and his work really spoke to that. Birch is apparently not the easiest wood to work with and Jerry really took the extra effort to do the job right. We came in after each day and checked on the work, and we were pretty shocked as to how little dust there was at the end of every day. There was pretty much no damage to the paint on the walls, they completely sheeted off the kitchen, and they really got right up to the edge of all the walls and appliances, and even under the front of the fridge! We went with the matte finish, no stain (birch doesn't take stain well apparently), we're really happy with the results. Mr. Floor typically doesn't do matte finish, but they accommodated our request and went and got the top-shelf matte finish without changing the estimate. I used their services to add additional wood floors plus sand/stain the existing floors in 2015/16. By 2020, the floors in high traffic areas needed to be refinished. I attributed that to regular wear and tear of the maple wood. In 2023, I contacted them again and worked with the same sales person who gave me a quote for about 3,500k to fix the floors. I planned it to be done while I was traveling. The contractor arrived a day before I was leaving town. He said the quote was wrong and it costed 15k because they had to do a larger area to match the floors evenly plus had to paint all the baseboards and move the furniture and else. I was in a pinch for time, and had waited years to do the floors when my kids and I could be away. Therefore, I agreed to the price after he promised a clean work on the floors plus a paint job on all the baseboards as well as taking a few cabinets and a couch out. Upon my return, the floors were poorly done, in many areas the stain had been applied over the wood dust and other debris like hair. In other words, they had sanded the floors, but had not cleaned the dust away before applying the stain. I was shocked. My silk window treatments were piled up on the floor in a mess, the rug pad was missing from under one of the rugs, the baseboards were full of old dust showing they were never freshly painted even though I was charged for it. There were areas where the stain was grossly thicker or thinner and it showed as a puddle of water from a distance. when I asked that they come redo a few very obvious flaws (I could not afford the time to redo the entire floors) the staff were thugs and treated me so poorly, that I had to contact the sales person who agreed with me and intervened. However, it was like pulling tooth to have them return to fix things and when they came they kept messing things up. At one point they patched a spot in the middle of my kitchen with a wrong stain that was glossy where the rest of the floor was matt and they refused to admit they made a mistake!! They said I had to wait for the shine to wear off! Finally I had to give up because they were inefficient and impolite and very difficult to work with and wore me out. I strongly recommend that you look elsewhere. read more

We worked with Aaron during the quote process and we decided to go with Mr Floor because he was genuine and provided the best advice. We have a design in our foyer (see picture attached) where it had 3 different types of wood. Aaron recommended not to replace the wood in just that area because we would see the difference in the wood and he also recommended not to just pull the design and replace it because it would look worse. He then gave us the option to cover the design while they stained the floors and then seal it all together. Which turned out great with the light colored floors. We then worked with Joe as our project manager. We had red oak floors that were very dry during the winter and he automatically recommended not to use water based stain because it would ruin our wood floors. It was truly great to work with people who you knew were guiding you to make the best decision - while sometimes it was not what we wanted to hear - it was good to know they were looking out for our best interest. Joe provided us with daily updates and pictures and finished the project within a week - which gave us an extra week to get other things done before moving in. Our red oak floors turned out amazing! We can't believe how nice the light color floors look without the red undertones. We did Duraseal Fruitwood 60% Country white 40% with the Bona NordicSeal and topped with one coat of Bona Traffic HD Satin finish. We hired the folks at Mr. Floor to take up our not old but totally beat up carpet. We suspected hardwood floors were underneath it, so the original plan was to have them follow the carpet removal with restoring the wood flooring. We worked initially with Aron. He responded promptly to the "request a quote" feature right here on their Yelp page, and he was able to come over the next day. With the condition of the wood floor being an unknown, he quoted the job at 5 days, possibly a day longer if any repairs were necessary. The work was for the living and dining rooms. It's necessary to go through the dining room to access the bedrooms. During the process, you can't walk on the floor, so we decamped to a family room in the basement. (We were thankful to have that!) The guys can move all of your furniture, but my husband and I chose to move everything except for four pieces that are tremendously heavy and/or bulky (he's strong but I'm not very big). They will also move it back, and will put felt pads on all of the feet. Joe ran the job on-site, and arrived on Monday. He introduced himself, and proceeded to go over everything with me in good detail. He was right away followed by the two men who did the work. Before launching into it all, they cut away a piece of carpet in the hall next to a room with hardwood floor so we could assess the condition of the floor and discuss trying to match the wood under the carpet with wood already exposed in a bedroom. Then, they set to it, removing the remaining furniture and then taking up the carpet. Incredibly enough, the floor was in pristine condition. The house was built in the mid-1950s, maybe the floors were covered with carpet forever after - who can say. On days two and three, the two men sanded and then applied the stain in three coats total. On morning four, the job was done and the furniture put back in place. Every morning, Joe stopped in to check the previous day's work and to give me an update both in person (I work at home) and via email complete with photos of the job so far. The workmen were at the house at the hour, or a bit earlier, that they'd specified to me the day before. Each day, any opened windows had been closed, lights turned off, things tidied up. On the last day, after the workmen left, Joe stopped in right away with very helpful instructions and a product for cleaning my sparkling brand-new hardwood floors. And by the way, the color is a match for the which the wood floor was already exposed. Based on my incredibly positive experience, I cannot recommend this company enough. We lived in an older house in the past, and have had good and horrible contractor experiences. Our job done by the Mr. Floor Company ranks number 1 at the top of the good column. read more

I spent 17k a year ago to restain and refinish my oak floors approx 2300 sq feet. I was worried the polyurethane was applied only once when it should have been Twice as I checked the progress each day . After one year my floors have scratches in every room. The slightest thing scratches them. Vacuuming, dropping a utensil in the floor, moving anything with plastic wheels . I had a toilet overflow in my condo and it caused quite a bit of damage: all of the hardwood floors and carpeting had to be replaced. Having had my fair share of run-ins with bad contractors in the past, Mr. Floor was a breath of fresh air. From walking into their store show room for the first time to the work being completed, they are hands down the best contractor I've ever worked with. Aron is patient and helpful when selecting finishes, and after discussing things in their store, he brought out several options to my place and I was able to pick out great hardwood floors and carpeting, despite not having a great eye for things. He didn't try to rush me to select something either, he waited patiently while I looked at samples in different spots of each room and compared side-by-side. They scheduled the work promptly, and when complications arose (as they always do in remodeling), they handled things perfectly! While the project was going, Joe (the project manager) was onsite every day to check on progress and would send daily (sometimes twice daily) email updates, letting me know how things were going, and sending pictures of the progress! He also even able to call an audible when the carpeting scheduling changed and did the carpet first so I didn't have to wait an extra 2 weeks! The quality of workmanship is phenomenal. The guy who was doing the flooring was great as well, he not only did good work but cared enough about the final results of the project to push back on plumbers who had come out to reconnect the refrigerator and were going to damage the floors because they came unprepared. I attempted to work with Mr John Yu at Mr Floor in Skokie, and was incredibly disappointed. I say "attempted", because either he hates me or doesn't care to do business with me. I was attempting to source a cabinet to finish a kitchen renovation - older model Ultracraft. I went in to Mr. Floor on a Wednesday with one of the doors to my existing cabinets in order to match it and there were no sales people available to talk to. Fine. I leave the door, with the understanding that someone would contact me. That someone was John. After a little back and forth, and my sending over the illustrations on what I wanted my finished kitchen to look like, I heard nothing. Eventually, I went in to the office in person and saw John. We spoke briefly, he recalled my emails, and told me that the item would need to be special ordered. Okay, fine. I sent him what I needed, he let me know he would submit the order and tell me the price / expectation on delivery / etc before confirming the order. And then... nothing. For, like, 3 weeks now. And counting. Guess he doesn't want the money? I dunno. I ended up going to Dream Kitchens in Highland Park and working with Karen. She literally had the order confirmed and out the door within a single week, with delivery scheduled for 5/22. So save yourself some time and just go to Dream Kitchens. read more
