Cash only !!! Great side dishes for a bbq place. Love the potato salad and coleslaw with pineapple in it delicious. Mac' n' cheese wasn't anything special, corn bread was ok. Baked beans were delicious. Pulled pork was good kinda greasy way to much bbq sauce on it- ask for dry. Disappointed that the brisket was covered in bbq sauce/ way to much sauce. Low rating, due to out of ribs and rib tips before 3pm, so basically right after they opened. so disappointed. will add how the chicken and brisket are in an update. Update, at 3pm we got the last of the chicken. brisket was good, chicken was dry, the problem both meats had the same sauce, so they tasted alike. slaw was pretty good, the mac n cheese was refrigerated cold. So open for an hour, sold out of all pork and chicken. Homeboy BBQ is the standard by which I measure all other BBQ. Their meat is smoked to tender perfection. It is flavorful but not overdone. Their chicken is moist and juicy. If you are ever there when they have bologna or corned beef, you are in for a real treat. These two are occasional specials that will make you beg for more. Each of their sides are scratch made and delicious. Don't leave until you try the cheesy potatoes and the house specialty, barbecue spaghetti. Strange as it sounds, it is delightful. The portions are huge and the prices way cheaper than the local chains. I feed my family of 3 on one meal with a couple extra sides for usually around $20. read more

Disappointing--I so wanted to love this place. I thought it would be like the barbecue places in the South: a little hole-in-the-wall with fantastic, authentic food. They've got the right idea, but the food is just not that great. We've tried the chicken and ribs and just about all the sides. The ribs are extremely greasy and make my stomach unhappy. None of the sides are especially great; the only one I sort-of like is the mac and cheese, which is just pretty good. I guess the brisket is good just judging by how often they're out of it but we've never tried it, and during this pandemic we're told they haven't been able to even order it. We've gone there 5 to 6 times over the years when we're really in the mood for barbecue, but sadly, I don't think we'll be going back. read more

There's a reason this place is consistently voted one of the best BBQ places in Michigan (not that northerners know what bbq is anyways). The portions are large and the side are pretty good, and have become partial to the bbq spaghetti. My kids love eating there. It's not really an eat in place but the owners are always accommodating when we come. They only take cash so make sure you bring some when you go. This place is just odd. Start with the hours, it makes no sense. Then it's just awkward when you walk in, the people just stare at you like you should automatically know what you want. So after deciding on brisket sandwiches we waited. And waited. And waited. ( BBQ is precooked right?) then it came. Absolutely drowning in BBQ sauce and tough as nails! I are a few bites and then asked for a to go bag only because I didn't want to be rude. Then it comes time to pay and.... The only take cash? I understand that some places do this but when they do there are big signs posted and they don't look at you in disgust when you mistakenly try to hand them your card. No complaints here. I love this place. I've had the brisket, ribs and chicken. Everyone one of them has been top notch. The staff is always fast and friendly. They make you feel very welcome. The portions are definitely on the plus size. You cant go wrong with any of the sides and the cornbread is delicious. In case you haven't noticed - I LOVE this place. Im alway on search for good BBQ, so since we were in town I thought I would check this place out. After driving out of my way to get there, they wanted to send me on another 3-5 miles goose chase to use an ATM at a convenience store BECAUSE THEY ONLY TAKE CASH! Smelled really good, and I would of liked to stay and eat. I think this day and age most people expect to use a debit card at a restaurant. It's ok BBQ nothing super special. Better than fast food restaurant but not as good as other BBQ I have down south or in certain major cities (like Lansing or Detroit). Pulled pork is ok but not going to make you go running back. Also the sides are nothing special at all, clearly just store bought mac and cheese and other cheap stuff. We had two combo meals with ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken and brisket. For sides we had one large mac and cheese, a small green beans, and a small bbq spaghetti. Portions were great for the price. I liked the bbq sauce and that it drenched everything. If you don't like your meat dreached in sauce, this is not the place for you. The green beans and cornbread were great. The ribs, pulled chicken and pork were good. The brisket was extremely tough. Having a cooked a few briskets, I can appreciate how hard it is to get a brisket to fall apart in your mouth. Like many others post, this is cash only. I heard about this place from a east side pub . I drove there on Thursday and got two nightmares. Great flavor but very low quality of meat. Thought I would give them another chance so I went there Saturday and spent sixty dollars and I have never had to use a knives to cut my pulled pork. But still a very good flavor. Chicken was awesome. The BBQ spaghetti was my favorite slightly sweet with good heat. The coleslaw was flavorful but not too sweet. This place is a funky owned family place. They do to go orders mainly. We stoped in on our way to a camp ground, we ordered pulled pork sandwiches. They come with a side, I got corn bread that was great, Dad got mac and cheese very good nice and hot! Mom got coleslaw and did not like it much as it had pineapple in it. Each order comes with two buns and plenary of meat. The BBQ had great flavor but it was cold when we got it and they made our to go plates right in front of us! We could have had two orders instead of three because of the amount of food! Great price and if you heat it up at home I imagine it's pretty good. read more

We ordered BBQ for the family here, first we had to wait almost 45 min, which the only good thing about that was it gave me time to run to the closest bank to get cash, because they didn't take charge. Then we get home, and our chicken is raw! Also we didn't get all the sides we ordered, they substituted some out, because they ran out of what we ordered. The rest of the BBQ is just covered in sauce. After living in Kansas City I learned a great saying concerning BBQ, "a good sauce will hide BAD BBQ" serve it up with no sauce and if it still tastes great, you have gotten a great BBQ! You can eat here, but is mostly a takeout place. The food is sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Never really bad, but if you expect consistent good bbq this place is a gamble. Sometimes the ribs are rubbery, the sauce is ok but nothing worth getting excited about. I guess the fact that they are one of only a couple bbq places around here gives them an edge, but I didnt think their food was all that great. An excellent barbeque joint. Very small. You could eat in, however, most people take the food home. Their food is excellent -- good portions, low price.
