We ordered for a work lunch and the food was amazing! I love that the box lunch combos have a variety of options and are very reasonably priced. I got the farmhouse salad with chicken salad on it and balsamic dressing - yum!!! The salad has tomatoes, cucumbers, and a variety of greens. So much flavor and all tasted so fresh. They are definitely known for their chicken salad! My lunch came with bread (that was a little too crispy), a deviled egg, and a slice of chocolate pie that was AMAZING! I have used Homemades by Suzanne for catering in the past and was pleasantly surprised to have the chance to have it again. It did not disappoint. They make the best box lunches in Richmond in my opinion and are great for catering. I chose the Tuna Salad, it came with a pasta salad, a deviled egg, a piece of chocolate and a slice of key lime pie. It was the perfect size and the perfect lunch for our group of Camp kids. The only thing I didnt see on the menu was a vegan option. I would like to see something like that next time, maybe a chick pea salad or a chick pea tuna with a fruit cup, and a dairy free pie. My friend and I were looking for a place to go to lunch around our office. Unfortunately a lot of the restaurants around the convention center are closed earlier in the week and earlier in the day. So we just walked around and then passed the John Marshall, and there was a sign! Literally a sign, that said Homemades by Suzanne was open. We walked in and were seated promptly. The staff was amazing. Anthony was a very attentive waiter and got us everything we needed. I ordered the fried chicken salad with a wheat roll. The salad was good, but the roll was excellent. Homemades by Suzanne manages to be adorable, elegant, classy, ritzy, casual, and exceptionally welcoming all at once. The lunch spot is housed in a spacious ballroom within the landmark John Marshall Hotel (now luxury apartments). It opens for lunch on weekdays with a signature menu filled with wholesome, hearty salads, sandwiches, and quiches. I had a free meal voucher -- so I selected the chicken salad sandwich with a side of macaroni salad, a strawberry lemonade, and added a slice of cherry cobbler (not included). If I had paid, the main course would've cost around $10 and the cobbler wasn't too much, either. Definitely on par with downtown lunch prices. All the food came out promptly (good for a work lunch!!) and the quality was top tier. It felt like the perfect summery meal in the middle of a chilly winter's day. I really enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Even our server was charming and nice. Had a work lunch at Homemades By Suzanne, which is located inside of the John Marshall Hotel. The advertising and sign visibility could definitely improve because it is a wonderful little spot for lunch. There is only paid street/deck parking in the area, and no validation if eating at the restaurant, so arrive a bit in advance. The restaurant serves inside of one of the smaller ballrooms, which makes it seem very posh, but you are also in a large space with very few tables. I would suggest reservations, because they may have to roll out a table for you. The menu had a nice selection of freshly made sandwiches, salads, soups, sides, and desserts. It felt very much like a "tea room" menu vibe, but slightly heavier. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and french fries for lunch. I am always critical of crab cakes because many places add so much filler, and not enough crab. This sandwich was not the most crab-filled cake, but it was still very tasty. The french fries were also crisp, but only came with a small serving. I would return for another lunch event or a special occasion "tea" in the future. read more

My first time trying Homemades By Suzanne was yesterday actually when one of the Physicians in my department surprised us with a special holiday treat of boxed lunch! I got the turkey sandwich boxed lunch on a yummy roll, had turkey of course, and lettuce. The boxed lunch came with a little Andes mint chocolate (my weakness), a deviled egg, and a yummy piece of carrots cake! Their homemade fruit punch was really good and fresh! Upon my lunchtime wanderings I decided to search for the downtown location of Homemades by Suzanne. I ended up calling to find out that it was actually inside the John Marshall. It is situated to the left inside a nicely decorated ballroom. Great place for a lunch date! I was promptly greeted and ordered the crab cake sandwich, grilled veggies and a limeade for about $9.80. The food arrived promptly and then I heard a woman greeting guests. A friend pointed out that it was Suzanne lol. I told her I had to get a pic because I her food soooo much. She was sweet and of course my lunch was excellent!! The grilled veggies were seasoned so well, I could have actually ate them as a meal and I'm not vegetarian. Homemades by Suzanne. I was expecting so much more. Let me be clear, I made an order for takeout. Which might have been the limiting issue here. I did not go to sit at the restaurant. I split the 4 meals between 2 people. I am just noting what I found with my meals here. My friend may feel that they had a better selection. I will let him tell the tail if he wants to later (SMILE) First the Good: I purchased 4 lunch box combo's with a groupon. Each lunch was priced at 9.95 and included a Sandwich, Salad, Deviled Egg, Desert, and chocolate mint treat. The salads that I had (Potato and Fruit) were pretty good. The Dessert (Velvet and Carrot Cake) were good, and worthy of the name. Now the Bad: However, the first Sandwich (Roast Beef and Cheddar) had a bun that was harder than a brick. Took the bun off to finish the meat. Which was also hardly in existence. The next Sandwich had a bit more meat, and at least had lettuce and Tomato to add to the flavors of the sandwich. The bun was better, but still hard and chewy. This could just be what is prefered for the meals, but it is not my style. The deviled egg was just ok, nothing special and really not that good. Although it is unusual to see deviled eggs offered, so it was a nice touch. Needs a bit more devil though (SMILE) If the Sandwich for each meal had been better, I would have given this restaurant at least 4 stars. But, I feel even with the above average dessert and good salad's available, that the poor sandwich detracted too much from the overall meal. What should have been a really nice box lunch, turned into a average to below average meal. Knock another 2 dollars off the meal, and I would have been ok with it as well. The only saving grace was the groupon deal. So, if you do not want a good sandwich, and dessert is your thing, this will be enjoyable. I did like the combination of items in the lunch, but would have liked to see more focus on the actual main event (the Sandwich) in my opinion. read more

Just left here on a Saturday. Simple sandwich and chip to go order took over 30 minutes. There were 6-8 people working in the kitchen area and I saw one order go out about every 10-15 minutes. Unacceptable wait for a deli. Also 2 food makers had masks on their chins, below nose and mouth. When I did get my food there wasn't even an apology for the wait. Sandwich was fine. read more

A nice place for,a,quiet lunch with good food and very good service. There were few diners on a Thursday for lunch and our party of five had excellent service. The crab quiche was excellent with a thick delicious filling full of crab and a delicate crust. The chicken and bacon sandwich was excellent with sliced chicken off the breast and crispy bacon on one of their signature homemade rolls. The Hanover club has been changed from country ham to sweet ham which was disappointing for me as I've eaten Suzanne's club for years at the original Ashland location and it is good with the sweet ham but is excellent with the country ham, turkey and bacon on a delicious roll. The coconut pie was about the best I've ever tasted. The iced tea wasn't fresh tasting as though it were leftover and refrigerated which for this place is a disappointment. read more
