Recently moved to this area, have been meaning to find a good reliable mechanic close to me to take care of routine services for my SUV. Since I was dragging my feet with that, my car decided to force my hand and started making horrible grinding noises while I was driving fast down a freeway. Luckily I was able to get home OK, and started my urgent search to get it fixed. Between the sheer number of excellent reviews here of this place, and that it's walking distance from me to make for a convenient drop-off and pick-up, I took my car to Homer's, hoping that they'd be able to help me quickly. Despite the large number of cars overflowing the service area and the surrounding pavement, one of the mechanics took a look underneath my car and found the worn-out part that was causing the grinding. He put in a temporary stop-gap and explained that it was OK to drive for a little while, and that if I wanted to get the replacement part from the dealer myself, it might be faster and cheaper than to order it and wait for it to arrive. He told me exactly what part I needed, and a short while later, I returned with the new part. Even though they were really backed up and didn't have openings for a week, they agreed to squeeze me in the following morning since it was a pretty urgent situation. The next day I had my perfectly working car, with the new part in place, a full inspection and maintenance service performed, and no recommendations for superfluous and expensive add-ons that some places are unfortunately known for. It drives better than it has in a long time, with no suspicious noises. I'm very happy with the way everyone at Homer's took care of my car, and how nice they all were to me. Judging by how many cars and trucks they were working on, they are the go-to place for locals and some non-locals as well! read more

Took my high mileage late 90's SUV to these guys to get some service and work done. First, they under-filled my transmission fluid, causing it to shift rough and sound like an electric motor while driving home. I immediately took it back, and they told me that because it is old and was not maintained as it should be, sometimes transmissions shift worse when you actually change the fluid. I insisted that they take a look again, and they realized they under-filled it and put more fluid in it. Unfortunately, this time they overfilled it and I kept getting a fluid high warning and beep every time I drove the car. I also asked them to give me a quote on repairing my A/C, since it had stopped working and was blowing warm air. They told me that it would cost $1,500 to fix because the compressor was shattered (and that there were metal shards in the system from this failure) and it needed a new one. I said I would keep driving it until the weather warms up (and save up for the repair) and come back when it was warmer and I really needed the A/C. Well, the weather warmed up, and it was more convenient to take it to a shop closer to my work, and what they told me was completely different. They said that the compressor is fine, and there are no leaks. The problem is with the blend door actuator motor. If I wanted to fix it, they would have to remove my dash and airbags, which would be expensive. They instead just manually opened my blend door for me, and now I have a perfectly cold A/C at no additional cost. They also offered to reset the blend door to blow heat when the weather got colder again. I went from a shattered compressor which would cost $1500 to fix (according to Homer's) to getting my A/C back for free. Never going back here again. I came here because of all the high praise from yelp reviewers. I learned the hard way to check out some of the more generic 5 star Yelp Reviews thanks to this place...they reek of paid reviews. read more

Our family has been using Homer's Auto services for years. When my trusted Honda broke down on the road recently during a heatwave my initial thought was: Okay, don't panic, just change course and drive straight to Homer's. Well the steering wheel wouldn't move and was making scary metal noises. I parked as best I could and nervously fumbled unsuccessfully for my AAA card. I then called Yo, the owner of Homer's who said to call AAA anyway and they would look up my account and just take my driver's license and car info. He was right! (who knew?) , but the ETA was in 4 hours! (I would have to wait in the sweltering heat!) I called Yo back to explain my plight and he came to my rescue, checked the car on the spot to confirm it needed to be brought in, gave me a ride home, took my car key, called a friend with a tow truck and had my car delivered to him directly while I enjoyed my air conditioning at home. I brought my girlfriend's car into Homers because the air wasn't blowing cold and to get the brakes serviced. She had previously brought it to Pep Boys and they filled the freon. Few days later she brings it in again, and now they say the condenser is cracked and need a new one for 1k. So, I wanted to get a second opinion. The guy at the front desk whose name is Yo said he would check it out. I get a call from him later on and he confirmed that it was the condenser. Here's where it gets good... He says to me that the car being a 2014 with just under 50k miles is still under factory warranty for a condenser. He said he called Hyundai and confirmed that it was. Wow, that was awesome thing to hear. My girlfriend was thrilled, and now Homers Automotive gained 2 new customers for when we need service on anything that isn't under warranty. I don't know where to start, for I've been bringing my vehicles to Homers for over 5 years. American made, Japanese made, doesn't matter. Yo (The Owner) is a great guy, knowledgeable, experienced and does his best to try to satisfy everyone no matter how obscure the problem is. I can not say enough about his crew. They work hard, have manners and really love what they do. I recently brought in my truck that the sunroof got stuck open. Yo ordered a motor for it $450!! to have it on hand for when I came in. As it turns out, it wasn't the motor. Some sort of limited, special order part that just was non existent now. He must have spent at least 3 hours calling parts houses, junk yards etc. No dice. No luck. The only alternative was to at least permanently close it up so I can have a sealed cabin, which they did. The had the entire headliner pulled down, the whole assembly taken apart, 3 guys to get the thing closed! But they did. How much. $0. Unbelievable. I even offered to kick in SOMETHING, but he refused. Now, I have a long history and have spent, literally, $1,000's of dollars at his shop, but that's just a story of the kind of shop Homers is. Fair pricing, decent turn around, and he has a guarantee on his work for 12 months I think! (either that or 18mo. Can't remember) Nobody does that. My first experience with Homers Auto Repair and it was a great one. If you are looking for a local honest shop that knows their stuff this is the place. I brought over a 1987 Mazda that had no A/C and now it blows ice cold at a very reasonable price. I don't know what else you can ask for. Coming From San Jose, to Monrovia, Steve and his staff made me feel comfortable and automatically made me trust in his word as a mechanic. My girlfriend's car (subaru forrester) was in desperate need of an oil change as well a battery change. I want to say his name was Matt, helped work on my car, there able to get a Subaru battery and switch out the old one for me on the same day. not only did they do a superb job at changing my car's battery and oil, but they informed me and taught me about the other problems my girlfriend's car would have later down the road, including bad tires (Thanks LA), and some jacked up stitch jobs on a couple of the belts. Throughout the whole time, steve could carry a conversation with me and always had great communication skills. What really sets the place apart from other shops is the real "homie" feel they give you, like you've known them for years. Now, with a 30 month warranty, this place is another reason to come over. You won't be able to find anything like this, anywhere else. Bring it back in, they'll fix it. And i noticed someone saying that they over charged by 50 dollars, Well, buddy, unfortunately the world can't cure your personal problems, these are specialists and trained mechanics. If you can find the price you want somewhere else, go for it. But you won't find the quality of work nor the good-natured employees anywhere else. I love this place!!!! I have been going here for the last 2 years and they are amazing. I have to say that I never thought I would meet a mechanic with such integrity and pride in his work. The owner Yo is so nice, and makes you feel like family. They always go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied with the work, and that everything about your car is safe and running well. At other mechanics I have felt like they are trying to find tons of extra things wrong to fix...but at Homer's it is quite the opposite. They will tell me what I can hold off on in terms of repair and help me find ways to keep costs down. I have even ordered my own tires online and had them delivered there once with no weirdness or issues. They seem to fall about average, or a little below when I price them out in comparison to other places, but here I know I will be getting quality work...and that I am a person not just a number. I have even got my dad going there now and he doesn't trust anyone... especially mechanics! Its comforting whenever I drive off from Homer's knowing if anything ever goes wrong with my car they are there and will stand behind their work. Don't let his rather quite dry humor or his rather confident demeanor be confused for disinterest in your problems or getting them solved correctly... G35 front wheel bearing was failing. My plumber said he had good experiences at this location. No appointment. I showed up at about 2, he had me out at 3. This was my first experience here, so I made the appropriate adjustment to my schedule so time would not be an issue, assuming this would be a matter which would drag into the next day. I also made it clear to the owner that I was not in a rush. Plus.. I watched as they checked the torque on all lug nuts, checked tire pressure, pulled a nail (no puncture) and checked brake pads. I recently moved out to this area from Claremont and had a great ship out there. But i needed someone closer and Homer's Auto was my choice. Now I am mechanically inclined and had a knocking noise coming from my suspension. I took it into Homer's and they found the problem and had an estimate for me within an hour or so. Wow! Very friendly people that know what they are doing. Pricing was a bit on the higher side but they offer one of the best warranties in the area at 30 month, 30k miles. The dealers don't even offer that kind of warranty. A few hundred dollars and 2 hours later my car was done and I was back on the road with no noises and a beautifully done alignment. Came here 2 weeks ago for changing engine oil. They strongly recommended to do transmission service. I went to trip to AZ, UT, and NV (long distance in a week). I noticed transmission problems while I was driving my car. Now I brought my car for transmission service. They explained me what they found and what might be happened near future very honestly which is very supportive for me. My car runs good after their service. What I like the most is they recommend me for prioritized issues. Thus, the Massage chair is always awesome! I had a really bad experience about prior auto shop. Great service, went above and beyond. I drive a lot and need oil changes fairly often. Always receive friendly service. This last oil change went just as well and I was pleasantly surprised that Mario went above and beyond just the oil change. I had recently purchased a new dash cam and hadn't taken the time to hide the cable. It would just hang from the windshield. When I picked up my car, the first thing I noticed was that the cable had been tucked behind the dash and routed to the power. Literally just left Homer's just now and as soon as I made my first stop I had to write my review... What saviors! I recently bought my brand new car this past weekend and of course, my first week of driving it to work and back, I had a huge plastic or ceramic table fly out of the bed of a truck and onto the freeway lane I was in! I couldn't avoid it and heard a HUGE scrape and clink-clank right under my car. I was so dissapointed that this happened so when I pulled over I looked to see which auto repair shops had the best reviews and were still open to just be able to look at my car. Russ and Craig saw the bumper and without hesitation did a thorough inspection of the front! Not only did they believe it was mostly superficial damage, they cleaned most of the residual off of it and showed me the areas that would need to be painted over. Those areas leftover were so minor that I was completely relieved and drove out of there super thankful for their honesty and kindness! Phenomenal service! I've used them now 4 times for various auto work and they are quick, reasonably priced and super community oriented. My most recent experience: Honda's driver side needed a new power door lock assembly/actuator. $350 was the estimate for parts and labor. When they called to say my car was ready, good news -- they called around and found a cheaper part, bringing my total bill down to $200! Not only did they care enough to find me the cheapest price available, they didn't quietly pocket the savings themselves. Brought my car in for an oil change with a box of 6 engine oil bottles and filter I bought separately to change. I've been doing this for a while now and other places always have one bottle (1 quart) left in the box. Now this is something I noticed kind of out of place... They offered to take cash from me instead and no paperworks done. Then about an hour later they just brought the car out and said it's done without mentioning anything about why the car now uses up all the bottles. Honest? I'm not so sure now. Although I can't say for sure about whether they even used the premium oil I brought, it certainly left doubts in my mind. Another red flag for me was that I specifically asked the mechanic to check the tires' pressures. He gladly said yes. I checked the tires' pressures right after I came back and they were all low. Now I really have my concerns about this place despite the reviews now. If these things can be done this way, I do not see so much of ethics when it comes to the big picture. I met Yo in a networking group last year, and am I glad that I did. I've been looking for a mechanic that I can trust, and it is not always easy to do when you don't know much about cars. Homer's Auto is Awesome! I took my 2014 Sorento to Yo to get a replacement battery because the battery kept dying, and I couldn't start the car. Instead of selling me a battery Yo told me that there was an issue with the power window controller on a lot of the Sorentos from this year. He gave me a printout of the webpage with all the details so I could contact the dealer because this problem should be covered by the warranty. When I called the service department at the dealership, the service rep said they would take a look, but he sounded skeptical over the phone, and tried to downplay the possibility of a faulty power window controller After taking the car in, and showing him the printout, I waited for a while as the service team looked into the problem. Finally the service rep came out and confirmed what Yo had already told me. They ordered a part, and gave me a loaner for a few days while the part came in. Needless to say, once they swapped out the faulty power window controller, the battery I had was fine, and is still working today. I was totally blown away that Instead of just looking to sell me a battery, or even trying to sell me the part that was causing the problem, Yo took the time to figure out the problem that was causing my battery to fail, and then sent me back to the dealer to get it replaced for free. I've been very happy with my former mechanic in Pasadena but with so many meetings in Monrovia lately I decided to have some work done on my car right up the street in Old Town Monrovia. Having met Yo and his wife, I knew they were the type of mom and pop operation that I would like to support. At homers they take care of everything from basic maintenance, oil changes, transmissions, tires, brakes, air conditioning service, And suspension just to name a few. What I found interesting is they also take care of restoring classic cars and this is something Yo does with a passion from the comfort of his home.
