Home slice was one of the first restaurants that popped up when I was checking Yelp. So I said why not. Pizza it is. Turns out that I think I was at this venue prior to it being Home slice. It's a good place to hang with friends and have a drink. Their outside area is partially covered and adult only so you don't need to be bothered by them kiddies. Oh well this time we had my kiddies in tow. We ordered the sausage pepper and olive pizza large. The crust has a bit of garlic taste to it which was quite yummy. My kid who normally does not eat the crust actually took my crust away from me so that's a testament to the flavor I guess. It was enough to feed my brood with a couple of slices leftover (crust ripped off). Though the crust was solid, the middle of the pizza was a bit floppy...more like NY style pizza (which really does not hold up to all the topping that we had on our pizza). The sausage was more like food service style vs freshly made (kids liked it a lot) but for a pricey pizza like this I'd expect all ingredients to be in-house. We also ordered a kale salad with cavatappi (which I think was not my fav). Seemed more like a pasta salad since there was so much pasta which is normally good (kids like pasta) but it was a tad spicy so my kids didn't eat it. It's a bit difficult to identify the servers since everyone was dressed like a customer (guess they also have a writing pad in their pocket as well to determine). But I thought a customer was being helpful to me when I was looking for the men's room. I think it might make more sense to purchase small sized pizzas to have a bit more variety for a group vs a large (might be more economic as well). If I somehow escape the kiddos for a summer afternoon, it'll be fun playing a game of bags and sipping on a beer. But alas, I doubt I'll be back. read more

I came here dinner for a birthday celebration. There were seven of us and we had made reservations ahead of time. The restaurant was pretty busy and packed. We were promptly seated and our servers did a good job of attending to us from getting the drinks order to apps and the main course, which was pizzas. Homeslice is located near DePaul University in the popular and happening area of Lincoln Park. I had not been in this area in a long time. So, I wasn't quite familiar with Homeslice except for its name. We were in the mood for having good pizzas that aren't the usual tavern style or deep dish. Homeslice was recommended by one of the members of our party earlier that week. Based on this suggestion, I looked up Homeslice and liked their menu. For our drinks order, three people from my group ordered various cocktails and I ordered a pint of a beer called, Homi Wheat Ale. For food we ordered a Sheffield salad, Sesame Soy salad, a small cheese pizza, a small cheese pizza with spinach, tomatoes and onions, a small buffalo chicken pizza, medium pizza called Nadene; a medium, The Sammilton; and a medium, The Mercernary, that has chicken and cream cheese base. All the food and drinks were good. The beer I had was refreshing. It was a better version of Blue Moon beer. My Sheffield was really tasty. I am not going to list its contents but will say that the salad was well made and was worth having it. My favorite pizza was The Sammilton with prosciutto, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, balsamic drizzle, cream cheese base, etc. Very flavorful. The next favorite was Nadene with charred cup pepperoni, hot honey, jalapeños and ricotta. I have had this kind of pizza elsewhere before. This was good. And last but not least, blackened chicken and cream cheese based, The Mercernary, which was nice but could be better with a tomato base. The pizza is a hand tossed, thin crust (kind of like a cousin to pizza Napolitano but not quite the same) which I believe is stone baked. The crust had a good char and was chewy and flavorful. I think this type of pizza is considered Artisan style but don't quote me on it. You can choose from the variety of pizza concoctions they have or build your own. The restaurant is like a decked out log cabin sports bar with nice decor and tvs with ample seating indoors and a patio dining area. The atmosphere is lively. This place can get pretty noisy. And to add to the noise, the train tracks above and adjacent to the restaurant bring a lot of noise too due to the L trains. Although, my party had a kid and I also saw, few others with kids in the restaurant, I wouldn't call this family friendly restaurant. Also, they don't have a kids menu. Homeslice is great place to visit with friends, date, and adults from your family. The service is nice and the food and beverages are good. The restaurant is a bit on the pricey side but nothing unusual given where it's located and what it is. Check it out if you haven't before. read more

A friend and I were craving pizza for lunch and Homeslice was a location that was close to us. We had heard good things in passing so we decided to order some food to make the work day better. I will say their lunch special was pretty impressive when you want pizza, but not too much pizza to carry home on the train. I got a slice of pepperoni and half a sesame salad for $12. Threw in two breadsticks for an extra dollar. A really decent lunch value for the area. The deal was supposed to come with a cookie bite, but unfortunately they forgot even though I asked at pickup to make sure it was included. They told me it was and the bag was sealed, so I took them for their word. Next time I will check myself! That reason is mainly why I'm rating Homeslice 4 stars. My friend got a slice of cheese and two breadsticks for $7 total ($6 for the slice and $1 for the breadsticks). I placed the order online and the food was ready when promised. It was only about a 10 minute wait, so enough to place the order and walk over. Overall, the pizza was good and hit the spot. The salad was so good. The breadsticks were pretty good, I wish I would have had dipping sauce with them. But noted for next time's experience! I definitely will be back and would like to see the atmosphere during the weekend. read more

Still a solid pizza place. However, in case it matters to anyone else, they use DoorDash for delivery (or at least do delivery in some areas). Had I realized they used DD instead of their own employees as delivery drivers (at least to my house) I wouldn't have ordered or I would have considered doing pickup instead because DoorDash sucks, and today's delivery did nothing but reinforce that in my opinion. The lox a is great though so I'll either be dropping by after work when I'm in walking distance or hopefully one day coming to one of the Ducks watch parties. read more

This is the second time I've had this unfortunate experience here. I'm bummed because I like their pizza. Made a 6:45pm reservation on a Saturday for 10, it ended up being 6 because of a sick child. We showed up at 6:30pm, got checked in and were told "it might be closer to 6:45." No problem, the reservation was for 6:45. We ended up waiting until 7:15 and decided to go home and order pizza from elsewhere since the kids were getting antsy. There was another party of 5 adults who had made a reservation and waited the same amount of time as us who still weren't sat. The hosts never updated us, we had to approach them to find out the status of our table. I've worked service industry so I understand how crazy it gets. I don't know if they overbook reservations or have trouble turning tables but waiting 30+ minutes for a reservation is disappointing. read more

A last minute hangout left me looking for a place I could book a reservation on the day-of for a group of three. It had to have a little something for everyone and on such a nice Fall day it had to have a patio option. Enter Homeslice, which had everything we wanted. I booked about four hours in advance and we were seated on the back patio, which is set up like a sun room, so you're able to get all of the sunlight without any of the cold. The vibe is casual, with wooden tables and bench seating. The service is also fast! We ordered the Brussel sprouts salad and a medium Nadene Pizza. It was plenty of food for the tree of us. Used to love in the neighborhood years ago and moved back to the area recently, so I was really excited to go back to Homeslice, but not sure what to expect. Thankfully, my friend and I had a great meal and fun catching up. She's a local, but lives in Lakeview and had never been there. Initially, they were playing good music and a game on the TVs. Then, they switched to the Oscar's and kept the music. It was a good balance and a good vibe with everyone talking and enjoying each others' company. Our server was awesome! Very friendly, knowledge, and gave my friend a great recommendation for a drink that was off the menu, which she loved. We ordered a gluten-free Ava-Lance pizza, which we added anchovies to, and it was DELICIOUS! I had a really great tap beer, but I forgot the name of it. At one point, my friend asked if the TVs' sound could be tuned on, so everyone could hear the Oscars. Unfortunately, the manager couldn't oblige and we were not miffed since there were subtitles. All of the sudden, our sever brought us some free desserts, cookie dough bites, to apologize about that. Of course, it was not necessary, but really thoughtful and appreciated. Just as she dropped them off, she remembered that my friend is gluten-free, so she insisted to bring another dessert and that we keep the bites. Minutes later, she brought us massive ice cream sandwiches made of Fruity Pebbles with vanilla ice cream. They were both really great, but we were pretty stuffed and couldn't finish everything. Homeslice was a fun place to be. We had the pizza, which was above average, but not excellent. It's Chicago, so the standards are pretty high when it comes to pizza. The pizza lacked enough sauce, but other than that was pretty good. The prices were not bad for the city. Parking is difficult and you will likely just want to use spot hero. It is extremely loud in there, especially if there is a game currently on TV that people are there for. Overall a fun place and very cool part of the neighborhood. You just can't go wrong with Homeslice! It's one of my favorite pizza spots in the city when I'm not in the mood for deep dish. The ambiance is SO fun (twinkle lights galore) and the staff is always really kind and accommodating. On this visit, I came with a big group and we were seated out back. I adore the back patio here. Super spacious and inviting, filled with cute signs, flowers, and of course more lights! The cocktails are some of my favorites in the city. The Umbrella is usually my go-to, but on this visit I tried the Pamarita, which is tequila, pomegranate, lime, soda, and jalapeno. It's the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. I also LOVE the strawberry mule!! The apps are delicious. Some of my favorites are the jalapeno homies, goat stix, and elote dip. The pizza is fun because you've got OPTIONS here! The menu is separated by veggie, meat, and chicken which makes it easy to narrow down what you're looking for. They also have whole wheat and GF crust options (win!). The pizza I got on this visit was the Mercenary: chicken, peperoni, jalapenos, sour cream, roma tomatoes, green onions, cheddar cheese on a cream cheese base. From wooden and dark too lit up and bright. They offer basic outdoor seating in the front of the restaurant and another set of outdoor seating for 21+. We always enjoy the $20 big ass lemonades! First time getting the mozzarella breadsticks and they were fire. The wings were average but we also ordered the whipped feta and were extremely impressed. This was a decent spot for lunch. Nothing outstanding, but I don't think you'll be disappointed either if you find yourself there. We got two small pizzas, both of which were good, but not going to win any awards. The crust has a nice texture as it's chewy and crispy, with a good amount of sauce and toppings, but there's just something missing when comparing to top tier pizza. The dough and sauce are just missing something. It was particularly noticeable on our simpler pepperoni and pineapple pizza. I recommend the Sammilton, which was delicious and had a bunch of other delicious toppings and a cream cheese base. The space is very large and has a cabin feel to it, which I enjoyed. I've eaten at Homeslice a while back, and finally returned for some takeout this weekend! Their space is absolutely beautiful. The back patio is incredible with benches, group seating, and the infamous swing. My sister and I came for lunch on a weekday a few years ago and enjoyed drinks and the whole space to ourselves. I'm dying to actually eat there again in the future! In terms of takeout, hubby and I loved it! The pizza options are endless, and thus overwhelming. When deciding what to order, we continually found ourselves liking the majority of toppings on a pizza we selected, and then wishing one topping on the list wasn't there, but we just decided to order as is to get the full experience, and I'm glad we did! They pick toppings perfectly and everything just tastes great together! It carried well all the way home, and it also reheated great the next day. The area is crowded since it's right by DePaul, but parking isn't too awful, and it's usually free on the side streets. Definitely a repeat visit for us! read more

We ordered through DoorDash (ASAP delivery) for an early Saturday night dinner ~5PM. This was my first time having Homeslice. We had heard good things from co-workers and locals and it did not disappoint! Delivery was estimated for 6:10-6:20 PM, but the food arrived a little before 6 PM. We don't live very far from Homeslice, so everything arrived still warm and no reheating was needed even though it was icy cold outside. We ordered the Homie Stix and the 14" Bennett's Beauty. The food is perfect for sharing. Homie Stix ($15) - This looks like a hybrid of cheesy bread and a medium sized pizza. This is a mash-up their two most popular items: Mozzarella Stix and jalapeño Homies. The bread stix are topped with cream cheese, mozzarella, provolone, cheddar, bacon, jalapeños, diced romas, and parsley. The menu says it's served with a side of BBQ ranch, but you could have told me it was their house Thousand Island and I would have believed you. The sauce is hard to describe, but it provides a cooling relief when you pair it with the spiciness from the jalapeños. All of the toppings tasted fresh and portion size of the stix and sauce was good for the price. 14" Bennett's Beauty ($26) - The pizza names are very unintuitive for me, so I spent a lot of time reading all of the descriptions and toppings. This pizza comes with pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, mozzarella, provolone & marinara! We went with the House Crust which came super thin, it was great! The toppings are well distributed and there were no giant pockets of naked crust. All in all, would recommend this place for takeaway/ delivery for some easy delicious food to share! read more
