The chicken was packed with flavor, and the waffles were the perfect combination of crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I ordered the dark meat with a side of greens, and both were delicious. We also tried the mac & cheese balls, which were a great appetizer and definitely worth ordering. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was excellent. One thing you absolutely can't skip is their house-made hot sauce--it was fire and paired perfectly with the meal. If I'm ever back in Sacramento, I'll definitely be stopping by again. I needed a quick lunch and was close by to this location. I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is small and has table service or to go. I ordered the friend chicken sandwich. It came with a side of French fries or onion rings and was $20 to go which seems expensive. The onion rings were superb and crispy. The chicken is a thin breast and comes with onion and tomato slices, lettuce and a watery, spicy sauce. We started coming here in 2018 when we moved to Natomas and I used to come very regularly but was disappointed over the years so its probably been at least 2 years since I have been back. As expected, prices have increased greatly. The fried chicken sandwich that was 10.99 is now $16.99! That is a 60% increase! We stopped by today for lunch and ordered it to go. The inside looked better inside than I remembered so they must have remodeled. The gal at the front gave VERY good customer service and very efficient especially being the only one up front who was the waitress and the cashier. I hate it when people take their sweet time moving. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. They no longer have the potato salad as a side so I got regular fries. Hubs ordered 6 wings and a side of garlic parmesan fries along with banana pudding. Our order came to $49. My sandwich was good and filling. Fries weren't bad either. They were not overcooked. Hub enjoyed his although I felt it was pricey $14.99 for just 6 wings. The wings were crispy but small. Overall my appetite was satisfied but my pocketbook was hurtin' and the only ding. Most of the entrees will be avg $20. I do like their vast selection and really interested in trying the shrimp grits. I ordered the Kid's Chicken Tenders which comes with fries, and I received soggy old microwaved chicken and "fries." I threw it away instantly. I also ordered the French Toast Breakfast which comes with hashbrowns and your choice of bacon or sausage. The app doesn't let you choose bacon or sausage; so I assumed it would come with whatever is in the photo they used, which happens to be bacon. What I received was undercooked sausage that was slimy and soggy. And a few bites of potatoes that were not hasbrowns? Not sure why it would come with that and no heads up whatsoever. I also bought two banana puddings which I am almost certain one was expired. Avoid this place!!! Would like to give negative stars if I could. Total was about $55 - they did not skimp on the condiments, hot sauce, syrup, butter, ranch and ketchup all included in order with some utensils. Tasted the chicken wing and was very juicy, just enough wing sauce but dunked in the ranch and hot sauce and it was delicious. Fries were good, wanted a bit more in box. Tenders were good. The monster of the table was the Nutella crepes! Nutella inside and topped with Nutella mountain and a few frozen cooked squishy strawberries. Pretty much nasty, even if you are a Nutella fan. Not eaten or taken out by 2 people yet still charged, even though she asked and we told her about it. We paid around $75! Ihop, Denny's, KFC, and Popeye's are better imo. This is my second time visiting Chicken N Waffles. Things that should draw you in- 1. The food is southern approved! 2. It's Halal 3. They're open 24/7 4. They can accommodate large families/ groups. On both of my visits I got the coffee. It's DELICIOUS like coffee mom used to make. Not burnt, or too strong, but the right blend of greatly brewed coffee. I learned on this visit that my server specifically waits for someone to order coffee so that they are getting the FRESHLY brewed cup every single time. Idk about you but as an avid coffee consumer that is enough to make me visit again, and bring others. Being Halal .... ok, some folks don't know about Halal meats... one, NOTHING you eat in this restaurant will be made with pork, Chicken, goat, lamb, and beef are the other meat choices. BUT meat that is harvested by Halal practices tastes SO MUCH BETTER than the others. Give it a try, I promise you will be able to tell the difference. Their eggs are REAL from a shell eggs. Even for the scrambled on a plate. I appreciate this because, again- the taste is different. The grits!? Man oh man! Drool worthy- they aren't lumpy, they aren't under cooked- super delicious. The beef bacon? Get you some! Again the taste of the meat is different, and honestly chicken and beef are better alternatives to pork (I am a loosely compliant follower of Ashwa dharma) and I'll eat the beef bacon over pork bacon any day. Now, a lot of people are going to have an issue with speed of service/ amount of time that the meal takes. Be up front, and tell your server, " I only have an hour, or 45 mins." In south Asian cultures (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) meals are ENJOYED - this means prepared from scratch, and meals are relaxed to promote digestion. So let them know if you have constraints. Also you can call a head and order, and then sit and eat. I like this feature honestly, but also like slowing down my day and having a relaxed meal. Not only will I make this a spot that I have put on my list of places to eat, but late night coffee/study spots too. Why not eat dinner, get coffee, study, and relax. read more
