I hadn't been since last summer and was happy to return. Parking can be a bit hectic, but once you're inside, the atmosphere makes up for it. It's a family-owned spot, and you can feel it right away -- everyone is kind, welcoming, and takes the time to check in on you. We came for breakfast, but they also offer lunch and barbecue options, so there's plenty to choose from depending on when you go. They've also expanded and now have a location in Elk Grove. I ordered the French toast plate, which came with thick-cut slices of bread, eggs, and bacon. The French toast was soft on the inside with a nice golden finish, full of flavor without being overly sweet. The eggs were well seasoned, and the bacon was cooked just right. BB ordered the cheeseburger with fries and a side of grits. The burger was juicy with grilled onions and melted cheese, and the fries had that crispy, beer-battered texture. Everything came out hot and satisfying. Overall, a great spot for comfort food with genuinely friendly service. Out in Sacramento for work and was craving southern food near my hotel. This placed popped up on google so I decided to stop in. I did not realized how busy this place was. Went for breakfast with family. We got chicken and waffles with the breast. Kids chocolate chip pancake. Eggs. Mashed potatoes. Chicken and waffles. Chicken was perfect. Moist. Seasoned perfectly. Comes with 2 waffles. They're thinner but it was great because it didn't over power the chicken. Chicken breast was big enough that we were able to split it and still be full asf. Kids chocolate chip pancakes was good too. Fresh and crispy edges. The fruit it comes with was a good amount. Nothing was wasted. Mashed potatoes were moist buttery and didn't need any gravy! Not sure what the hype is about...I didn't find their food appealing. I have heard so much about this place and so a friend and I decided to come for brunch. I ordered the catfish and shrimp plate, asked for coleslaw and potato salad...now I love catfish...and the only way I like it is using cornmeal batter for the fish...I am not sure what they use here for the batter but it wasn't cornmeal...maybe it was flour. And the fish was soggy on the bottom...which I can't do at all! So that ruined my appetite...the potato salad was ok...and the coleslaw had way too much mayo! I didn't finish it... I ordered a peach cobbler and a pecan pie to go...I always am in search of the best peach cobbler. Was really disappointed in the cobbler..it looks great...but the taste/flavor not so much. It didn't have any of the seasonings that peach cobblers have. We wanted collard greens and we came around 10:40am...how is it that you are out of collards in the morning? Really good Southern dishes being cooked up. Mom and pops type spot. Highlight for me here was the shrimp Po' boy sandwich. Crispy shrimp with a tangy sauce served on a soft French roll. Loved it. Their fries here are bomb. I liked the Mac and cheese too. Super creamy. My lady loved her breakfast. The crispy bacon was nice. Pancakes were her favorite part. This is probably the best southern breakfast place to eat at. There's so much flavor in all of the dishes as well. Catfish is always fire. The restaurant is cozy and feels comfortable to eat in. Sarom's Southern Kitchen has been on my to try list for a while and finally had a chance to check them out. Arrived at around noon on Tuesday. It was pretty busy but we were able to snag a table. Service was friendly. Wanted the shrimp and grits, but was told they were out. So, ordered the chicken wings and waffle. Friend ordered the catfish. The portions were huge. 2 waffles, 4 chicken wings, 2 catfish fillets. Chicken wings are not usually a go to order for me, but these ones were good. Crispy, moist, and flavorful. The waffles were good too. Friend enjoyed the catfish as well. We had leftovers b/c we couldn't finish it all. Nice little mom and pop spot to get some good food. I ordered the chicken and waffles which was on point. They give you 2 waffles and 4 whole Wings so its plenty of food, it was $20 for the plate. I also ordered the cheese grits which were good but nothing to call home about. The waffles were light and flavorful but the wings were the star of the show. I did request them fried hard which were perfect. They were nice and crispy and still juicy inside, they were not over cooked. The flavor was on point you can taste the spices. We had lunch here on a Friday. We were immediately greeted with a smile by a very friendly man who invited us to pick any table. The sense of hospitality lasted the entire time we were there. It's a small, unassuming place with dated decor like framed landscape paintings, fake plants, & rooster tchotchkes along the window sills. Music from a radio played 60s music. There can be charm in a nostalgic, older, authentically worn space with taped up booth seat material that shows how many have enjoyed their meals here, & are still comfortable. We saw friendly interactions with who appeared to be regulars & staff. Service was attentive. We got checked in on & helped by multiple people. There was a lull between the first meal and the second meal being brought to the table though. The restaurant was clean & tables were cleared quickly. The restroom was well maintained. We ordered a Shrimp Po'Boy with Fries & a Catfish Po'Boy with Potato Salad. Everything was yummy. The shrimp was tender, the catfish wasn't overcooked, & both were tasty. The bread was soft & not too crusty. The sauces used as condiments were delicious! The catfish po'boy did have issues with ingredients sliding out & was drippy with all the vegetation. The toothpicks were definitely needed to try to keep it together. The fries were savory with a nice crisp from the beer batter. The potato salad was mild & creamy. I was amazed at how big chunks of potato stayed intact because they were such a soft bite. We have passed by Sarom's in the course of our adventures many times and have noticed how busy it seems to be. That's a great sign that the food is good, prices are reasonable, or both. We tend to eat outside of the busy hours and found it to be about half full. Dining area is basic. No fuss booths with tables and chairs filling the middle. We both ordered omelettes and chose the option of biscuits and gravy over toast. These were probably some of the BEST we've had in quite some time. Very fluffy, not dry, savory gravy. Hubby chose country potatoes and I chose grits to accompany our meals. ( grits were meh) Then we ordered two waffles to share. Sounds like a lot but our plan was for leftovers. This is where the breakdown happened. Our food arrived strangely in random order. First came a biscuit with gravy alone. I love to eat my biscuits and gravy mixed with my meal. Not as an appetizer. About the time we finished, the waffles appeared. Then later, the omelettes arrived one at a time. As two foodies, we have a certain way of going about our meal. First we do savory, then end with a waffle or similar like it's dessert. I guess this was an eat dessert first day. Coffee was never refilled and check backs didn't really happen. As for the food, it was great! Tasted wonderful and cooked exactly to order for a reasonable price. We had plenty of leftovers. Servers seemed to have been short the day we visited which definitely impacted our experience. Food. Just. Trickled. In. Yes. We will be back if we are ever in the area and ready for good food in hopes that the service we experienced was just an anomaly and not the norm. I'd driven by this place on previous visits, but it is very easy to miss as you're flying by on Arden blvd. When entering, you're greeted immediately, and depending on the size of your party, they will prep a table for you. Since it was 6 of us, they quickly moved a couple of 4 seater tables together. I remarked to my sister that we didn't need that much space, but that was before I got my order. Starting with my dad, he ordered cheesy grits, scrambled eggs, ham, and a grilled English muffin. My mama ordered chicken and waffles (specifically chicken wings). My sister ordered fried catfish, two fried eggs, and biscuits with sausage gravy. Hubs ordered scrambled eggs with American cheese, 3 pancakes, with a side of bacon. And I followed my mom's lead and ordered the chicken and waffles. Folks: WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE FOOD The portions are insanely huge, fresh, piping hot. And absolutely full of flavor. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots to go to in Sac. The service is always friendly, the staff does a good job managing the wait time and the food is bomb. I haven't had a miss yet while coming here. The parking can be a challenge, they have a tiny lot outside of the restaurant and if that is full there is some street parking. Hot N' Spicy Chicken and Waffles - We opted for the chicken wings this time and they were seasoned well, crispy and came out fresh. This dish comes with 2 nice sized waffles and they are fluffy and delicious. This really is one of the better places in Sac to get chicken and waffles if that is a dish you enjoy. Brisket was on the daily special the day we visited so I opted for that as my protein choice to go along with my country potatoes, eggs, and biscuits and gravy. All of those were very good but the brisket stole the show. Everything about it was done very well. The coloring showed freshness and good quality and it had a good fat ratio. It was tender and juicy! Kudos to the chef back there because they really did their thing with this dish. If you see brisket on the menu, order it! This place came across my Instagram feed and it is known for its Chicken and Waffles! That is what I ordered, it did not disappoint! They give you two waffles and you can either get four wings or chicken breast. I got the four wings. They were seasoned and delicious. The waffles were crisp big and delicious. Amazing and appreciated because we traveled from Stockton to eat. We loved every selection on the playlist. We love Sarom's! All staff are friendly and accommodating. We usually go for breakfast, and our favorites are the chicken and waffles (with 4 chicken wings) and the eggs with country fried steak and grits and a bread (I usually choose the English muffin). You can add cheese to your grits. They have all kinds of hot sauces on the table. The fried chicken comes out hot and juicy! Recently, the coffee was great, and they kept it filled up!
