Hometown Pizza remains our favorite for carryout pizza. We love the Hometown Special (pepperoni, pork, sausage, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and black olives) which always has fresh ingredients. During a recent family get-together we also ordered the White Chicken pizza for a family member who is allergic to tomatoes and tomato sauce. This pizza had grilled chicken, red onions, spinach, cheddar cheese, and bacon with Alfredo sauce instead of tomato sauce. It was a hit with ALL of the family members! Our takeout orders have always been correct and are ready when we arrive at the stated timeframe. We are not a fan of the indoor space which seems dark and dated, however it seems to have adequate seating for those who dine in. We opted for takeout tonight. My husband ordered online. After arriving home he checked the pizza and the ticket - they didn't match. We'd asked for a thin pepperoni, we received a thick cheese. Thankfully a quick call resolved the error but it did require another drive by. Based on getting two orders, I actually like the thicker crust. Next time I'll also ask for light pepperoni. Having marinara for dipping was good - the pizza itself is light on sauce, too light. Nothing to add about the space since we picked up; however, seating and parking is ample for guests. Most spaces are ideal for 4 people but there are some tables to pull together for a larger group. read more

The toppings on the pizza were sparse. It resembled a frozen pizza and had the flavor of such pizza. The server had to be secured from somewhere in the back. She disappeared once we were served. The restaurant was not crowded at all. The vibe reminded you of an old Pizza Hut. The decor is old and tired. We will not return. read more

Lunchtime on Friday soon after opening time so not too busy. Our waitress was very friendly and patient as I had an on the spectrum teen with me to eat. He picked Hometown Pizza and raved about "yellow sauce" and "they hide pepperoni under the cheese". We chose a build your own medium pizza, thin crust. 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 cheese with diced tomatoes. We did the cheese sticks too mainly to appease the hungry teen but I sampled them and they were delicious! We dined inside for the first time at Hometown Pizza on Wednesday which is family night. (That means free bread sticks for the family with order of a Large pizza)! We had gotten pizza to go before during the pandemic while trying lots of new restaurants via takeout. We love their bacon cheeseburger pizza and dessert pizza! We were delightfully drawn in to the cozy pizza parlor environment. The staff we relaxed and welcoming. It felt very family friendly. We loved the wooden booths and Tiffany lamps. There were lots of kids and it was loud while we were there. However there weren't a lot of screens with ambient noise (which I was thankful for), so the voices of the other customers were not overpowering. The bread sticks were perfectly cheesy. What surprised me most was the chunky marinara. It was so yummy. I don't usually eat marinara because it's often made with tomato paste, but this seemed fresh made and chunky. Our quest for the best pizza in Louisville continues. And Hometown Pizza surprised us...in a great way! We ordered the thin crust. One was sausage. The other was mushroom, spinach and onion. The Italian sausage on the pizza was outstanding. I like a little extra sauce. It was tasty. My wife had the mushroom, spinach and onion pizza and loved it. To be honest I think it was the better of the two pizzas. The restaurant is not quiet but definitely not too loud. It is nice that they don't over power you with music. The booths could be more comfortable but I can't remove a star for that. Hometown is a winner. It may still be a quarter star behind the Post but it is the best we have had in Middletown. Had a lovely lunch today at Hometown Pizza in Middletown! I'm not a pizza person, I know, GASP! But I'm aways down for a calzone or a sub. Today I had a meatball sub. It was excellent! Came out hot and fresh. Meatballs were a good size, bun was soft but toasted, marinara sauce is chunky with onions and complimented the whole thing. I should have asked about the pasta salad before I ordered as my side, as it's mayo based and I'm not a Mayo fan either. I had a few bites of it though and it had good pieces of olive, onion and pepperoni In it! There were a couple of sliced pickles on the side that I'm mad I forgot to eat! I ordered take out from this location tonight and it was great. I got the chicken Alfredo (without the vegetables) which was fabulous as always. It comes baked and tastes so fresh. This is my favorite Alfredo in town by far. I love the garlic bread that comes with it as well! The order was ready on time and correct. The staff were friendly and they were wearing masks. Went in there on Friday night for a carryout order and they were busy but moving along very well. The staff at the middletown store is always absolutely incredible. I always come in the morning and the daytime server during the week is the best I've ever seen. The manager on duty that night(not sure if he was the only one but only one I saw there but he was doing 4 or 5 things back to back in the 3 minutes I was there maybe. However I never once felt that I wasn't important and made sure myself and the other 2 gentlemen were taken care of in the best way. I grew up in Bullitt County and frequented Hometown Pizza in Mt. Washington, Bardstown and Taylorsville as a kid. I moved to Middletown a year ago and was happy to see a location 5 minutes from my house. I went there this evening and was not disappointed. The service was great and the food was even better. I love their grilled chicken salad and the thin crust or thick crust pizza. The sandwiches and pastas are really good too. Can't wait to go back and try something else. read more

The Middletown Hometown has always been in our pizza rotation. I used to work close by and the buffet was a treat. Maybe post-COVID that will return. A great one. Hometown has that style pizza that has some similar cousins within the Pizza world in Louisville; Bearnos and Angios to name a few. It is not artisanal, the crust is not paper thin, but isn't rubbery. Guys Pizza way back when also had this 1/4 inch crust. My wife and daughter have really gone bonkers on the thick crust. It is a gem; light and buttery with a little crunch on the bottom. I like as well but since I was an outlier on this visit I went with the Hometown Special thin crust. Usually a "fancy" pizza is vetoed by the cast at hand, so I got to go uptown this time as the others went thick crust and sausage only. No disappointments. Speedy service and right out of oven delivery. We dined in, which we mostly don't do these days. Light indoor attendance so spacing was good. Lots of carry out going on. Hometown has been offering some freebies lately with free cheese stick coupons. Didn't have to twist our arms on using that. I didn't do a salad, I just remembered that. This place feels like the old Pizza Huts on the inside...tv's, big booths, slightly dark, family friendly. The pizza off the menu is better than the pizza on the buffet. Its not great but its ok. Nothing special or unique about it. Service is usually good...friendly and fairly attentive. They are crazy stingy on the marinara though and only give it if you ask....and even then only a tiny little cup full. You have to keep asking and asking. The offer a lunch buffet and its so/so. There are usually a few pizzas, cheesesticks, cinnamon sticks, spaghetti, a casserole or two, and a salad bar. The salad bar is small with just the basics. The casserole is never vegetarian friendly and the pizzas very rarely are so if youre looking for veg, go elsewhere. They don't keep the buffet well stocked at all though and the pizzas tend to be cold...one of those things were you walk up and there's only what apppears to be cold leftovers. You can easily see an empty tray of what should be cinnamon sticks or breadsticks during your whole visit.They don't put any marinara sauce out, not even for breadsticks.Weird. No delivery. No more discounts if you bring a church bulletin on Sundays. You could do worse but you could also do better. Plus side is its usually quiet and a nice place to sit and chat. read more

I'm not sure if the Middletown Hometown is cutting back on portions however, there wasn't much cheese AND the pizza was overcooked. I also purchased wings and to say the least, they were gross. I've been a patron of Hometown locations in Mount Washington, Bloomfield and Preston. The Middletown location is by far the worst. Hoping for improvements based on these reviews. read more

Hello everybody! Not only is hometown Pizza just a filthy disgusting place in general, but they also have ROACHES. Yep you heard right! Roaches. They are crawling all over your plates and in ingredients that go on your food! How do I know this? Well I used to work there up until a few days ago. They mistreat their employees by working them half to death. We are underpaid and understaffed. Nobody wants to work there bc they only pay us 10$ an hour! We get online tips but they vary bc some of you are very bad tippers They have had this roach problem since I've gotten there and they still have them! I worked there for 4 months. You have an allergy or need gluten free? Sure thing, they will just make it like a normal pizza. No new gloves or no new fresh ingredients. The place is going under. They can keep any employees bc their management is so awful. Also you have an employee there who likes to drink on the job and steal tips from her fellow employees. So go in there and try it if you want to at your own risk. I've seen people drop food on the ground and literally pick it back up and feed it to children. It is the dirtiest kitchen I have ever seen in my life and I'm ashamed to have been apart of that place. The 5 stars are for the pizza only. The salad was about 3 and a half. Beer selection zilch, nada. All they have is what is often called generic American swill. Not a real beer in the bunch. I love this store, my boy friend and I have a "table" when we come to this location. I even had my birthday there a few years ago. Thats where we met and ADORE Gretta. She is the best and shes not a server, she's FAMILY!!! However, I was recently told by a dofferent server there that the company's policy was not to offer gratuity to large parties. I REALLY REALLY hope that is not true... or you pay your servers a good wage for when they do not receiving a large tip they can afford to care for their family. The Pizza buffet cost $7 a person, salad was good but very average, the pizza was cold, and not tasty at all. The cheese is no better than a Pizza Hut, and the buffet is about the same. If I leave and feel I could have ordered a frozen pizza and eaten at home, I will not go back. read more

Hometown Pizza grows on me each time I go. First off, I love the pizza sauce here. It is my absolute fav sauce. BUT, they give you very little on the pizzas and very, very little for the breadsticks when you order carryout. Im talking a teeny tiny container. If you order, ask for extra sauce! The service is generally great as is the atmosphere. I love the homey feel, the tv's, and the family-friendly environment. It makes me feel all cozy on a cold winter night. I like that. The cream cheese dessert pizza rocks and the breadsticks are great. On sundays, they do a brunch buffet (bring church bulletin for a discount). Super convenient but they struggle keeping the buffet stocked and it tends not to be vegetarian friendly. read more

We went to Hometown pizza because they now have a cauliflower crust..low carb, gluten free..which excited us since I'm on weight watchers and it was the recommended pizza. It was surprisingly good!! Even with a $3 upcharge.. Only complaint would be the few toppings you get compared to any other pizza restaurant and the toppings actually were less than a frozen pizza.
