Hawaiian (it's called something different on the menu)

*on the off chance I'm not the last to know* This pizza is amazing. One night my wife and I both said, "why haven't we been to Coals?" So we tried it. We had the Waverly and were both so impressed we came back and got the Hawaiian and another Waverly. Both were solid! Great flavor and also not so large you feel stuffed. We've only gotten them as takeout, so no commentary on service or ambiance of the restaurant. If you're in the mood for some quality pizza, this is your spot!

We really enjoy Coals. The pizza, salad and appetizers have always been good. The service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. The pizza dough is light and airy with the right amount of crisp.

Coals Aristian Pizza is absolutely divine! This restaurant has won an array of awards and accolades and definitely lives up to the hype. The customer service is phenomenal and ambiance is very laid-back I enjoyed every item I ordered from the tantalizing menu!!! The restaurant has wonderful parking, the price points are reasonable, and the serving portions are huge. I highly recommend The Prospect Pizza and House salad. Please note they do not deliver; however, you can place a carry out order or dine in and they offer daily specials. I highly recommend checking this restaurant out. Your taste buds will be appreciated the visit!

Back to visit Coals and after this visit I am unsure what took us so long. Their pizza is delicious! Thin crust and fluffy yet crispy crust. We loved The Waverly (so unique) and added both a cheese and create your own pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni is thick and delicious, just a better quality that I'm used to. We got a seat right away. On a Friday night the crowd was plentiful. The space is tight between tables - thankfully not in a way that we heard conversations but uncomfortable for those of us with larger hips to squeeze through. Some patio seating is also available. Our server was friendly, attentive and helpful with the specials. Check out their menu beforehand. Create your own is more economical. Specialty pizzas are a bit expensive but great to share with another person. Party room available! Parking is shared with another restaurant and recently learned that because it's a breakfast space that businesses won't be competing for parking.

We absolutely LOVE Coals, it's definitely one of our favorite restaurants here in town. We even always make it a point to go to Coals and grab a pizza and a few cold beers when we are traveling since they have a location in the Airport. Even though I've been countless times, I've have never had an opportunity to stop in for Happy Hour (Monday - Friday 4:30 - 5:30 PM) and was stoked we got the opportunity last Friday. They have some awesome deals (picture included with details) including their Sangria Pitchers which are only $25 (Reg $38) Now don't get me wrong, their pizza always knocks it out of the park and I was pumped for that too, BUT their Red Sangria is my absolute FAVORITE! If you have not had it, it is a must try for sure! Scott, the Bar Manager (he could have another Title I am not aware of) created this delicious recipe himself, so be sure to tell him how much you like it once you try it. Scott greeted us as soon as we sat at the bar, and brought over some waters. We ordered the Pitcher of Sangria as well as the Herb & Cheese Flat Bread to start. We were in no hurry and after a while ordered our pizza which was the "Waverly" (Prosciutto, mozzarella and gorgonzola cheese, finished with fig jam, parmesan cheese and a balsamic reduction) which is always delicious. Our other favorite is the "Chef's Favorite Brownsboro" which is the traditional Brownsboro (Margherita pepperoni and fresh mozzarella) but adds banana peppers, mascarpone/ricotta cheese and their house-made chili honey drizzle) so we trade off every other time we go so we both get what we want, but sometimes we also each get our own pizza too. One of the things I like most about Coals is their array of crust options .... regular, gluten free and cauliflower. I have regularly ordered their gluten free and cauliflower crusts (when we both get our own pizza's as mentioned above) and they are excellent choices, especially for someone like me who has a wonky stomach has to be careful with what I eat. Now with that being said I can actually order the regular pizza crust and not immediately feel sick afterwards, I am not sure if this has something to do with the fact that they use King Midas Flour or not but either way it is really nice to be able to enjoy regular pizza sporadically!

I always try to visit a pizza place when I travel and Coals was exceptional. Our server Caroline was attentive and very knowledgeable. Our pizzas were freshly made and the ice cold Weizen was the delicious. We sat outside and they have a nice setup where you can enjoy the fresh air. I have many artisan pizzas and Coals is really good. Louisville you have a winner.

I did a take out order and the location is easy to get to. There is even a parking spot to pick up orders. It's a cozy homey feel when you walk in. There is a bar you can sit at or there's tables available. It's more of a sit down restaurant than something like a dominos. Their pizza is high quality and absolutely delicious. I had a hard time picking what to order, but it doesn't seem like you can go wrong with anything you order. Their service is so friendly. Overall a recommended place!

Went on a Tuesday night. Friendly and welcoming hostess and waitress. Shared the flat bread app... it was great and came with an amazing marinara sauce. Also recommend the tomato bisque soup and the wedge salad.

This place is pretty spacious. We went on Monday and they had wine bottle specials. I had the Old Louisville pizza which was very good. The staff were attentive to our party.

Do they have a party room?

Yes, they have a very nice party room. There is a pretty pricy minimum purchase to use it. I have never seen it being used so the minimum should possibly be reconsidered.

Tucked away on Frankfort Avenue, it's a little off the beaten path, and parking can be an adventure. There's a small lot by the restaurant with overflow parking further down the hill. Somehow we managed to snag the only open space right outside the front door, which felt like winning a very specific Louisville lottery. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and the place was already buzzing. It was packed with locals, which is usually a good sign. While our table was being bussed, three different employees checked to make sure we were being helped. We let them know we were just a little early and waiting on our table, but it spoke volumes about the attentiveness of the staff. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a neighbourhood pizza spot: relaxed, lively, and unpretentious. The soundtrack quietly floating through the speakers was a crate-digger's delight, full of songs that have been sampled throughout hip-hop history. Hearing Lynn Collins' Think (About It) while waiting for dinner felt particularly apt following the recent passing of Rob Base. The song's iconic break became the foundation of It Takes Two, one of hip-hop's most recognisable records, and it was a nice reminder of how deeply great music connects generations. To start, we ordered the Olives & Togarashi, a bowl of Castelvetrano olives coated in a wonderfully aromatic blend of spices with notes of fennel, sesame and citrus. My son tried his first olive and was genuinely shocked by the flavour. He'll come around eventually. For the main event, we ordered three large pizzas: the DOP Margherita, the Funghi and the Original Sting. The DOP Margherita showcases imported buffalo mozzarella from Campania alongside basil and San Marzano tomatoes. The Funghi is loaded with an incredible blend of mushrooms, taleggio, pecorino cream and mozzarella. The Original Sting combines soppressata, fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato and spicy local honey in a sweet-and-savoury combination that completely works. Now, let's talk about the crust. It is perfect. Pillowy and light, yet substantial enough to give you that satisfying chew. The wood-fired oven creates just the right amount of charred bubbling around the edges. Our server offered house-made ranch and other dipping sauces for the crust, but we politely declined. This pizza doesn't need any enhancers. The balance of flavours across all three pies was exceptional. I've eaten pizza all over the world, and Pizza Lupo belongs in that conversation. It really is that good. We had a plan: sample all three pizzas and leave just enough room to split the tiramisu. Thankfully, we stuck to it. The tiramisu was fresh, light and beautifully balanced. Not overly sweet, nicely moist, with just enough espresso flavour coming through. It was the perfect finish to an outstanding meal. The service was fast without feeling rushed, friendly without feeling scripted, and genuine throughout the evening. We left full, not bloated, and happy as spring lambs, already talking about what we'd order next time. We'll defo be back. Cheers, Sam

We arrived about 7 on Saturday night, it was busy, but we were able to be seated within 10 min. Amazing location with street parking available. Great selection of Bourbon and beers available, and a great menu. They offer 4 styles of pizza: thin, original, thick, and Sicilian. We went with original, and it was perfect crust, with a chewy edge. Louisville style is two layers of cheese and toppings, with a slightly thicker than thin crust. We loved it, but it's very filling. Lots of leftovers, which is never bad. We always get 16in to maximize our slice to pizza ratio. Service was fast and attentive, their pizzas do take longer than your average, but it was worth it. My book club met at Impellizzeri's this week, and upon discovering several of us have dietary limitations, the server and kitchen staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and ensure our ongoing health. A wonderful kitchen wizard ventured out into the dining room to talk to us personally, and confirmed that all the traditional pizza doughs, pastas, and red sauces are vegan. He offered to create a custom pasta dish with a variety of vegetables (spaghetti pomarola with garlic, spinach, and mushrooms), and ensured that the breadsticks that accompany the pasta dish (traditionally made with garlic butter and cheese) were vegan, prepared in a separate location in the kitchen to ensure no dairy contamination. For those with other food allergies and intolerances they ensured every detail was correct, even noticing that a pizza that was inadvertently prepared with an offending food item, and remaking it before it was even finished baking. Pricing is incredibly reasonable for the quantity and the truly excellent service, which is what truly made the experience special. My pasta dish was tasty. Is it the best pasta I've ever had? No - but it wasn't trying to be. What Impellizzeri's does well is serve good food at reasonable prices, in a location and with people who have an eye for detail and a passion for excellent customer service. Well done.
