This is a favorite restaurant of ours. The food is always great and the prices are affordable. They always bring over a dish of olive oil with seasoning and olives with a basket of bread when you are seated. We started out with the Garlic knots, as always they are buttery, and topped with lots fresh Garlic and Parmesan cheese. This will certainly keep the vampires away. We also had the fried mozzarella triangles, again these were fried to perfection and not greasy at all. The triangles are served with a nice warm tomato sauce to top your mozzarella with. My boyfriend had the Sausage Parmesan grinder it was loaded with sliced sausage links with just the perfect amount of sauce and cheese. I choose the eggplant rollatini with ziti, served with a side salad. The ziti was the right amount of tenderness, and the eggplant, was enough for 3 meals! Inside the eggplant was ricotta and ham, a very tasty combination , both the eggplant and ziti was topped with sauce (light on the sauce per my request). Tonight was an off night. I have been here many many times but tonight was just not on par with what is usually the norm. Plain cheese pizza was very flavorless and "tough" to eat. It's usually a thin crust that easy to chew but this had a bite ... don't know if that's an old dough thing or maybe rolled too much, but whatever it was, wasn't working. Small order of garlic knots were also very tough to eat and most ended up being tossed to the trash. Delicious every time we visit! The first time I had Hometown pizza was at a birthday party where I tried the famous "buffalo chicken pizza" which should be famous for it's delish factor. Tonight we ordered a Sicilian (square deep dish) which you can't find at every pizza place and the crust on this one is phenomenal! And my other daughter just got a small mozz. We were offered bread which was warm & crispy with olives & oil to dip in and butter to spread. There is grated cheese, crushed pepper flakes, and even garlic salt on the table to season your dishes the way you like. The waitresses are friendly & attentive. Used to work in Wallingford and this place was my go-to Friday lunch. We'd also have them cater our office gatherings so I've tried a lot of the different pies they make as well as a few grinders and dinners. Nothing here disappoints at all from the quality of the food to the service. Valone and his staff are happy to take care of you and will accommodate just about any request at all. Being as good as they are they can get very busy, but always a large variety of slices if you're looking for a quick in-and-out. Most notable is the Buffalo Chicken pizza which has won several awards and easy to see why, but also the Sicilian style, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Chicken/Eggplant Special, Italiano and just their basic cheese pie. In addition to the pizza, the dinners and grinders are all very good and excellent taste and quality. Customer service over the top. We came here to this restaurant based on a recommendation of the two of the people in our party. They said, they wanted to do Archie Moore's, and I said I wanted some real food, like pasta, bread and salad. Next they suggested Hometown Pizza. During quarantine, they ordered a lot of food from Hometown, and it was great. Sounded like a great to me. I was all in. For one of our parties birthday, we had done the Bronx Zoo, and decided end it with a birthday dinner. Also, we pretty hungry after doing 20,000 steps. Let's just say, we worked up an appetite. We called ahead to see if we could seating for 8 people and the girl on the phone, said they could, but could not take reservations. Sounded very accommodating to me so I was pretty much looking forward to eating dinner there. Part of our party arrived a few minutes early and we ended up with a high top outside. The temperature was actually perfect for outside dining. We arrived a little bit later and we were waiting for one more person. A half hour went by and our last person hadn't shown up, so we decided to put in our order anyway. These are our orders: 1. Penne ala vodka, salad with Italian dressing 2. Buffalo chicken wrap, 3. Stuffed shells, salad with oil and vinegar, side of meat sauce (if allowed, not a menu item), side of sausage (if allowed, not a menu item), with seafood stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, 4. Steak and cheese, 5. Philly cheese steak pizza, 6. Buffalo chicken salad, 7. Stuffed shells, salad with Parmesan peppercorn dressing, 8. when the last member of our party arrived, Buffalo chicken pizza. What started to go sideways? It took our host 20 minutes to ask whether or not a side of meat sauce and a side of sausage were possible to order and come back with a response. At this point, I believe none of our orders were put in with the chef. Our host let me know that a side of meat sauce was not possible and asked did I still want the sausage. I decided to keep it simple, and said no thank you. Just keep the stuffed shells. We waited and waited and waited. Our appetizer never came out, our salads never came out, another hostess came over to try and help and I explained we ordered an appetizer and 3 dinners which come with salads and they never came out. She said she would check on it. Another 10 minutes or so goes by. No salads. Then the 2 pizzas come out first and then the buffalo chicken salad. Okay. We're getting some traction here. Another 10 minutes still no salads and no appetizer. At that point, my friend who made the recommendation verbally decided not to eat in at that restaurant ever again. Only takeout or delivery. Next comes out the buffalo chicken wrap and the steak and cheese grinder/sub with lettuce. The steak and cheese was supposed to be plain so it was sent back. So half our party was eating and the other half was waiting. I was part of the waiting party. No appetizers and no salads. The same hostess came back over again to help out and said as such. Eventually the steak and cheese came out correctly. Then the remaining pasta dishes came out, the appetizer, and no salads. Then the hostess asked us if we still wanted our salads. My friend who recommended the restaurant, said no, we said yes. By then the table was packed, with plates, and there was very little room left for the rest of the food as ordered. Our host admitted that he forgot to put the appetizer in but offered no explanation as to why our food was so staggered or why the salads did not come before the main dishes. At the end of the night, our host removed the appetizer from the bill. In the meantime other parties came and went. What happened when the pasta dishes came out? What I immediately observed, HUGE portions. And guess what? My shells came out with meat sauce on it! Something was definitely lost in translation. If they have lasagna they definitely have meat sauce. They probably couldn't determine what to charge so they said no. Anyways, I put a little bit of salt on the shells, I know, I know. You're supposed to taste your food first. After the first bite, I was in heaven! This dish did not need any additional seasoning. It was perfect. Appetizer finally came, it was very good. On to the salads, which finally came out. After the main dish, and after the appetizer, you could tell there wasn't a lot of thought put in to them. They were together as an afterthought and looked rushed. The greens were pretty fresh though. Overall, everyone loved their food. That was my first time there, service was questionable, food, everything besides the side salads, was AWESOME. Just can't justify 3 stars. So 2 stars it is, until I return. I live about 2 miles away from this restaurant and while we frequent other businesses in the same plaza we have really never made an effort to go there until recently and I am really glad we did! We have been there 3 times in the past month which makes this 3 star review a little complicated so I'll break it down for you. Outside patio area is really cute- lots of string lights and umbrellas so I'm sure it's nice in the summer. Restaurant/bar setting- cluttered entrance, not super clean but not gross either- just sort of mediocre. Dinners- EXCELLENT!! I was hoping it would at least be 'OK' just so we had somewhere nice and close to grab a quick dinner but it definite exceeded my expectations. My favorite was the chicken scampi, closely followed by the sausage and broccoli- both seriously delicious meals and at a reasonable price since most people will easily be able to get 2 meals out of their large servings. Wings- they were meh- nice and crispy but we ordered mild and it tasted like a tiny bit of hot sauce mixed with barbecue sauce and that was just weird, and they came with rubbery celery. Pizza- the crust is good- thin crispy crust- But the sauce and the cheese just don't seem to offer a lot of flavor, even with additional toppings it was just sort of bland. Now for my biggest pet peeve: the service- every time we have been there the servers were oblivious to the fact that they were servers and seemed to have completely forgotten what their job entailed. Sounds harsh, but 2 out of 3 times this was 100% the case and I'd say on the last visit it was definitely a little better but still slightly lacking. I'm not that needy but when there are only 3 tables filled and 4 servers hanging out I don't think I should have to make a concerted effort to get more water or to get the bill. Honestly we will continue to go there because we really do enjoy the dinners and it's really conveniently located but hopefully the service starts to straighten itself out. read more

We've gotten takeout twice now and have been fairly impressed each time. This last time we got the Buffalo chicken pizza which is, rightfully, the pizza they are known for. It was not greasy like many buff chick pizzas! Their pizza does not have the signature char and chewiness that New Haven pizza lovers enjoy, but it's still very good. We got garlic bread with cheese which was good but wasn't toasty like we usually like it! We also got the garlic knots. Beware, if you are not a garlic LOVER, I do not recommend them. I've heard great things about this pizza place. I ordered 2 large pies. They delivered in 45 minutes with 1 pie and they only charged me for 1 pie. The delivery person was not helpful and told me to call the restaurant. I call the restaurant, I'm immediately given to the manager that tells me I didn't order 2 pies. They tell me they'll send the other one ASAP. The 2nd pie finally gets delivered a period of time later and they put a LARGE pizza in a medium box and it came folded over and smushed. I have ordered from here many times and it has always been good until yesterday. Im not sure what happened but they dropped the ball. Fried calamari was over fried and like rubber, it was inedible. The marinara that came with it was over salted by a lot. Parmesean wings were also over cooked and dried out. Threw them out. Bruschetta was on sliced bread that was too thick and not toasted enough so the tomatoes made the bread a soggy mess. Chicken ceasar salad, the chicken was dry, cold and unseasoned. The eggplant parm sandwich would have been great but the same salty marinara was used. We spent over $60 on food that was super disapointing. My husband was angry.
