I have ordered from here many times and it has always been good until yesterday. Im not sure what happened but they dropped the ball. Fried calamari was over fried and like rubber, it was inedible. The marinara that came with it was over salted by a lot. Parmesean wings were also over cooked and dried out. Threw them out. Bruschetta was on sliced bread that was too thick and not toasted enough so the tomatoes made the bread a soggy mess. Chicken ceasar salad, the chicken was dry, cold and unseasoned. The eggplant parm sandwich would have been great but the same salty marinara was used. We spent over $60 on food that was super disapointing. My husband was angry. They have always been good, not sure what happened, but they just lost good customers. read more

Food is good and they are consistent. The gluten free option is awesome. My biggest issues are 1) phone ordering and 2) delivery time. Everyone I order, I can tell the phone is in a busy location of the kitchen. They can never hear me and I hear most of the kitchen conversation instead of the person on the phone. This is our go to restaurant for ordering out. Great pizza, great wings, and great service!!! I have also had their salads, which are wonderful, and most of the pasta menu (their chicken marsala is to DIE for). The restaurant can be a little loud with multiple tv's, but they will turn down the volume if asked and the service is quick, polite, and professional. read more

I'm very picky about my pizza; I LOVE a NY style pie and all I can say is YES! We've ordered takeout twice so far - pizza one time and entrees another time. Everything we've had has been excellent. I've been here to eat a few times with family- my mother loves the place because it's very casual and the portions are very generous. This is a very good casual pizza spot that has really good pastas as well. I did recommend it to a coworker to try, and she told me that she was a little disappointed with the taste of the sauce (she said it was a little on the "sweet" side), but, I can't comment on the marinara because most dishes that I have gotten are cheese-based. The service has always been good, they serve you bread with olive oil/spices which I like. The glasses of wine are reasonable and also generous. Very good pizza. The best part is that they delivery and you only have to spend $10 for the delivery!!!!! They also make small pizzas which I think is great because sometimes you have too much left over by being forced to order larger at other places. Usually my family loves hometown, both dining in and delivery. A while back we learned that ordering pizza for delivery from them was a bad idea, as it always arrived room temperature and I was sick of turning on the oven to heat up the pizza before we could eat it. Anyways, since then delivery was great.... the pasta and chicken dishes are our favorite, delicious and huge portions! This review is more specific to our delivery order on New Year's Eve. We obviously knew it would be a busy night and were more than happy to hear that our order would arrive in about an hour. An hour came and went, so I called to check on our order. The girl on the phone said "Oh he is out delivering now and should be there any minute". Okay, fine. 20 minites go by and still no food. I call back and get the same exact reaponse. So 1 hour and 50 minutes roll by, STILL nothing. I call back yet again and get the SAME response. .. "any time now!!" By this point I should have asked to talk to the owner... as we have met him several times and he is a wonderful, kind, and accomodating man... but I was way too annoyed and just hung up. Finally, 2 hours after we placed our order the delivery came. The guy says "Hey! It's so busy tonight... sorry about the wait. I hope she let you know it would be 2 hours, I just left the restaurant so the food is hot!" For the record, the food was no where near as hot and delicious as it usually is when we have it delivered. We were especially annoyed that girl on the phone kept trying to pacify us and couldn't care less that my family (including 2 year old) had to sit around waiting an unexpected extra hour for our food. Whoever answered the phone there needs to be retrained on how to handle stressful and busy nights without being rude and lying to customers. We love the guys who run the restaurant, but I think we need a break from there after that fiasco! read more

One if the best places in Wallingford for sure. The pizza, pastas, and salads that I've eaten there have been very good. The staff is super friendly, so much so that one time I called in for delivery not realizing they were closed and they insisted on delivering anyways. Always so friendly when I pick up my orders too! Buffalo chicken pizza is amazing. Grilled chicken salad is delicious with their house dressing. Enough for 2 full meals. I definitely recommend this restaurant! read more

My family and I visited at noon on a Saturday. There was only one other party in the entire restaurant. That should have been a sign. The name of the restaurant is "Hometown Pizza". Why couldn't we order pizza during lunch? So we settled on sandwiches and salad. The club sandwiches were on stale white bread. The Caesar salad didn't have Parmesan cheese. The food is decent. The service is terrible for dine in. I hadn't been back since last Spring where my fiancé and I were sat outside in a swarm of bugs. I gave Hometown the benefit of the doubt tonight and have never had service so bad. I literally didn't even know who my waitress was. The order was a medium pizza and 2 beers so on the difficulty scale it was maybe a 1 of 10, and they still failed miserably. My family and I have been going to Hometown Pizza since we moved to Wallingford back in 2013. This is one of our go-to places for pizza/Italian dishes. Pizza is excellent, and they really load on the toppings. Their Chicken Florentine pie is sooooo good - if you like white pizza, definitely give it a try. Their pasta dishes are delicious as well, particularly their Alfredo and vodka sauce dishes. We ordered the margarita pizza to be delivered on Sunday night. The pizza was delivered on time, But the pizza was undercooked and actually raw in a couple places. There was barely any basil on this pie and they use grainy, hot house tomatoes. The salad didn't have much else other than lettuce and tasted like it came from a bag. Very disappointed... Buffalo chicken pizza is good, chicken noodle soup is hearty and I do like the seasoned olive oil given for bread dipping.. But for a kitchen with Italians cooking in it the red sauce taste like jarred with way too much dried seasoning, watery too. Maybe it's just because I'm Italian and am picky with my red sauce.. I've only had a few things from this restaurant, but I love everything I've had. Their buffalo chicken pizza is the best I've EVER had. We usually get their garlic cheese bread to start also, and I definitely recommend it. They can get crazy busy on Friday nights apparently. A 2 star rating is 'Meh. I've experienced better.' and that sums it up. Tried Hometown for the first time, delivery. Small pizza, salad and order of calamari. The service: the young person who answered the phone and took the order - I pray that she is exceptionally pretty, Miss America pretty because the good Lord did not see fit to provide her with any measurable amount of intelligence. Case in point - when I asked what my total was, she put me on hold for about 4 minutes, came back and said 'It's going to be about...' 'About'?? It took you four minutes to come up with an estimate? She could not add the order up. Not obviously even with a calculator of some kind. She took my credit card information and when asked for the expiration date, I provide the name of the month and the year. The name of the month, you know like January, February, etc. She didn't know what number the month was. So the card was rejected because she could not figure out that October was '10' and then the year. Since I live in a condo complex, I provided specific instructions as to how to find the unit. The driver got lost. He showed me the ticket with my directions. The directions read 'Go to the end of the road.' That's it, no turns, nothing - just the end of the road. So if you're order is late, it's because the phone service sucks. I can't believe that someone could be that extraordinarily dense, just someone who truly does not care about the service. The food - the calamari was the standard frozen kind, but I expected that and they don't get points off for that. The pizza - it wasn't awful. Not huge on taste, not cooked to perfection, bland, but not awful. The salad, surprisingly was very good. Very fresh. I would pass again on a delivery order. read more

I ordered food for delivery as I am homebound after a major illness. We used to frequent the restaurant often. However, when I called to let the manager know that the meal was cold and incorrect upon delivery, I was treated disrespectfully. Yet, the song and dance changed when my husband got on the phone, manners were offered. It went from "i will give you half off a garlic bread" to "we will comp your next meal." I hate being treated poorly because I am a woman. I used to go her 2-3 times a month. I will no longer go here or recommend it. read more

First, as a restaurant in Wallingford, their pizza is good...for Wallingford. I prefer someof the spicy ones like the Arrabiata. Not bad. The staff is pleasant. The owner is always nice and offers a friendly greeting. I usually get take away, but have eaten lunch there a few times. Their dinners are VERY expensive for a hole in the wall type place. Like $25-30 for entrees. Not NYC guys, bring down the prices. I ordered a few apps last week to try them. The Poppers were a disappointment. Supposed to be stuffed Jalepenos, but in biting them, it was red pepper wrapped around cream cheese and deep friend. Flavor was ok, who doesn't like fried and cheese? But not what was represented on the menu. The chicken wings are always off here for some reason. I have ordered a few times and they keep missing the mark. The blue cheese isn't real blue cheese either. I am not sure what it is exactly. But has no flavor to it. To sum it up, good local place for pizza, high prices on entrees, and blah appetizers. read more

They also have pizza by the slice which is getting rare for pizza places. you are always greeted with a smile and it doesn't take long for before the owners start treating you like family. Our family loves Hometown Pizza. The service is phenomenal, staff is great, owners remember customer's names, the food is delicious and surprisingly enough, their specials are incredible. My wife loves Cosmos and they always make it perfectly. They are also fans of local beers and usually have at least 1 on tap.
