Their lunch offerings is spectacular and they do not skimp out. Especially the boxes. I typically "roll" with the 3 roll social. I ordered 2 of the yam rolls and 1 shrimp/asparagus roll. The special comes with miso soup and salad. Let's start with the soup, it came in at the perfect temperature. It had tofu and the broth was seasoned well. The crispy lettuce was covered with the Japanese dressing which was nice and bright, it was well balanced with rice vinegar and ginger. On to the Shrimp / Asparagus Roll. The asparagus was fresh and crisp. The shrimp was tender. The sushi rice was fluffy. The size of the roll is decent for lunch. Next the sweet potato rolls are my favorite, the tempura battered yams provided a nice crunch with every bite. I like this place but only have been here for lunch. The first time we came to Honada, our food was excellent! I was happy to find a nice, affordable option for hibachi. I was really looking forward to coming back! Sadly, our second visit was disappointing. Our food was prepared in the kitchen and everything ranged from cold to barely lukewarm. No one wants to eat lukewarm scallops or steak (which I ordered medium and it was well done). Our server was extremely nice and very accommodating to make sure our food was warm. But our food wasn't remade...it was just microwaved. I even said to my boyfriend, that if this was plated differently, it'd look just like a meal at Panda Express. The tempura roll had lettuce in it which I was not expecting. I was not a fan of the texture. The fried rice had a lot of egg in it but great flavor. The shrimp were huge. We used to come here pre-covid and it was much better back then. The wife and I went for her birthday and it was abysmal. The service was SO slow (one waitress for all the Hibachi tables) We were seated along with another party of six and most times they were addressed separately and we were only acknowledged when we called the waitress. The shrimp was over cooked, the vegetables under cooked and the medium rare filet I ordered had ZERO pink, it was thoroughly cooked all the way through. When I asked the chef "this is medium rare?" This has always been an easy lunch spot in the past - good food, nice portions and friendly staff. Unfortunately, this isn't the same restaurant it used to be. Not only do they have impossible construction in front of the restaurant (not their fault and sucks for them), but their lot was pretty packed. We were hoping for a quick lunch but it took quite a while even though we ordered quickly. Our server seemed like only 1 of 2 working so she was trying but couldn't get to everyone too fast. We waited for waters and even longer for our drinks. My sushi came out about 5 minutes before my companion's hibachi lunch. I also got a side of fried rice as that's always been a plus. No hibachi table side on Mondays should have been the tip we should have gone elsewhere. We ventured in for a birthday dinner. The food was decent with regard to portion sizes. The soup and salad showed up and the soup was warm, not as rich as we are accustomed to in visits to other "Hibachi" restaurants. It only went down hill from here. The salad was okay, the dressing was okay, but it lacked the crispy snap that we are accustomed to in a ginger dressing. The sushi was the vibrant, fresh and the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately we did not just stay with sushi for dinner. We also ordered hibachi. The food was cooked to order, but lacked flavor outside of garlic in the rice. There was no flavor explosion when bitting into the teriyaki meats, the veggies were crispy and tasted raw. Service was so so as we had communication issues with our server and he never refilled the drinks. Ambience was nice. We did see an epic sushi bridge which we wished we would have ordered. read more

Let's get this much out of the way: the food is mostly fine. Salads, like at any mid-range sushi restaurant, are made with old iceberg lettuce and premade dressing. It's fine but nothing to write home about. Likewise with the miso soup: it's acceptable. Even the sushi itself is mostly pretty good. Nothing will knock your socks off at Honada, but if you're just looking for a sushi fix that's "better than the grocery store," Honada definitely gives you better than the grocery store. That's about where the praise ends unfortunately. Service staff is nice enough if you're doing things exactly the way they expect, but do not go in thinking you will be accommodated for any special requests. For instance, many of their sushi specials are labeled "Chef's Choice". Now if you are at a respectable Japanese restaurant (or really any restaurant with any self respect), an "omakase" ("in your hands") order would be treated with respect. You're telling the chef "I trust you to give me a good experience." I informed the staff that I would not eat escolar (it is actually banned in Japan because the oils in it are actually not digestible by humans; and it gives me a killer stomach ache and other GI problems), and that I expected this "chef's choice" not to be boilerplate tuna, salmon, shrimp, yellowtail like other pre-made menu items. The staff simply repeated over and over "it's chef's choice." OK, fine. "Chef's choice" it is, but I told the staff "if you give me exactly those items, I will be very unhappy". Well that's precisely what they did. I received my "chef's choice" plate of sushi with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, and ESCOLAR (they try to pass it off as "white tuna", but it is anything but tuna, look it up). The staff refused to apologize and made it out like it was my fault for ordering "chef's choice." No, it is not my fault for disliking your "chef's" terrible choices. Can you even call someone like that a chef if they have exactly zero creativity? I would say not. I've spent hundreds of dollars at Honada because they really do offer that "sushi fix" at a reasonable price. But with the way they treat their loyal customers, I will gladly pay more at Ono, Soons, or even Sooshibay before ever stepping foot back in Honada. I expected at the very least an apology, and they couldn't even give that. read more

Best Sushi in Kenosha. As a LA transplant to Kenosha our little family is admittedly a bit snobby on the sushi game. We were just spoiled rotten with Sushi and Mexican food in LA. For a cramped intimate setting with limited options but fancier ambiance, do Ono. But if you want to be able to just walk in with a large or small group this is the place to go. Their menu is MUCH better with a lot more options, plus you can do Hibachi here too. Come with a large group for a table or a spot at the hibachi grill, or come with your date or family. First off, we came here on a whim because there's a bunch of hype in Kenosha about how awesome this place is. First of all, we didn't even see our waitress until right before we said forget about this place and walk out. Ordered a green tea and a water. The green tea was horrendous. Tasted like soap. Started with the gyoza as an appetizer. The gyoza was standards as you'd get anywhere. Not bad. Not great. My wife ordered hibachi chicken and the salmon supreme roll. I ordered the SIRLOIN steak hibachi and a scorpion king crab roll. My wife's chicken was decent at best. Veggies and and rice were pretty standard. What you would expect at a sushi place. Once again, not good not bad. Now remember when I said I ordered sirloin?! I ordered it medium rare. Tell me why they brought cubed stew meat that was way under cooked and had the audacity to call it steak. The salmon special is just a California roll with thin salmon on it. Save your money. And the scorpion king came out Luke warm and the crab they use is clearly canned as my roll tasted like tin. Legit sushi from pick n save would have been a better choice. So the food is not great. We should've went with our first pick and went to Soons. As far as service goes, our waitress had an attitude the whole time and was dropping our trays as she was bringing them out. To top it off, went she brought our paid receipt and card back to the table, she tossed it on the table, walked off, and didn't say a word. This place is gross and service is horrendous. The food they serve here is wonderful, and the avocados in the rolls are always so perfectly ripe. It is so worth it considering how generous the prices are compared to other sushi restaurants. They offer 3 rolls, Miso soup, and a salad all for only under $14 as a lunch special. The waiters are always friendly and welcoming when you come into the restaurant, and I always get many friendly goodbyes when I leave. For a sushi place that is the only one nearby this big, the food is ok. Nothing to complain about if you stick to the sushi, soups and salads which are quite good. However, their service is terrible. The front staff is not friendly. They are rather rude, impatient and will ignore you. We go there a bit since it's the only place I know and they have "forgotten" to seat us or serve us. There have been more than one time when we wait to be seated or walk out. And if we are seated, I have had to walk up to the server to get her attention. The best option is now take-out for us!
