I bought a battery. They charged me double the retail price. Then they ran into a cross-threaded bolt when taking off a saddle bag. They charged me an extra 85.00 to put a new bolt in. Also charged me $6.00 for the bolt. One new battery installed cost me $271.00. I took my battery and had it tested. It was a good battery. These people are very unprofessional. read more

Had a road trip planned last weekend. So of course I'm going over my Harley (last minute checks), making sure she's ready to go. Lo and behold, the rear tire is on its last leg. I'm leaving the next afternoon. I could have called Harley and paid $500 for a new rear tire , but I've had these fine folks install some tires in the past. Called Doug, and he just happens to have my size tire in stock (order that never picked up). So he gives me a great price on the tire, and even went thru my exhaust. Don't do it!!! Don't buy a bike from these guys. I've been a police motor officer and instructor for more than a decade, and have purchased multiple motorcycles over the last two decades. This is the WORST experience I've ever had. I understand purchasing a used motorcycle has its dangers, especially site unseen. I wanted to have this motorcycle sent to a certified Honda dealer for a pre-purchase inspection (on my dime, of course), but Jason said that they were a certified dealer, and reassured me that this motorcycle was 100% operable, with no mechanical defects. He sent me a few photos of some of the cosmetic deficiencies, and again assured me that the bike was in wonderful mechanical condition. Fast forward a week or so, the bike was delivered to me on a Saturday evening. I took it for its first ride Sunday, and the clutch was absolutely shot. When I'd accelerate, the bike would completely wind up to several thousand RPMs, but I was going nowhere. Dropped it off at my local trusted certified Honda shop (who I've used for 20 years). Ready for this? They said the fluids looked like they'd never been changed, and the clutch plates were fried, "burnt to a crisp" is what the service manager told me. Had to replace the fluids, the clutch, and the entire clutch hub. $2600!!! Northwest Honda started off by offering me a couple hundred dollars. After arguing back and forth over email, and being accused of not being truthful about the bike's condition (despite emailed copies of service invoices from my certified Honda dealer), I talked them up to $700. $700! A little more than a quarter of what I'm out. Please, learn from my experience. Don't purchase anything from this wicked, crooked, horrible excuse for a motorcycle dealer. When you get screwed, they won't care, and they will blame you for damage, even though it was physically impossible for you to have caused it. Run! Run far away! read more

I am in NYCity, and Jason, who is the owner of the dealership, was nice enough to store the bike for several months until I was able to arrange for a friend who does motorcycle shipping to get out to Illinois to pick up my bike for me. DO NOT EVER DO ANY SORT OF BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! It actually pains me to have to write this review. It took them over 8 months to do a simple carb clean on my sport bike along with changing fluids. They overcharge by almost double. They kept forgetting to do the work, or that I approved the recommendations. After 5 months of calls every 2 weeks telling them to do the work, it was apparently started. They kept telling me that they needed money upfront and also overcharged my account with an extra unauthorized charge. With that, they delivered my motorcycle to the wrong address. Once confronted about the incorrect billing, the general manager refused to speak with me on the phone about the charge stating that they will not correct the mistake. I indicated that we will never be a customer again, they were okay with that and hung up the phone. The sad thing is that I have had fond memories of this company and their staff for over 19 years. So I wanted to give them business. I knew that they had obscene pricing, but I went out of my way to support them because of the past. No professionalism. Cowardly management. Disrespect to customers. And what I have to believe is horrible financial management, based on the requirement to pay upfront. Or they just really do not have any trust in their customers in the community of which they operate. My recommendation, Honda Northwest needs to leave Crystal Lake immediately. Avoid. I went in with my wife only to be sorely disappointed. This place advertises on craigslist and has a website with prices much lower than the showroom floor. Then when you get in there and want to bring the price down, they act like the reduction to the actual advertised price is doing you a huge favor and won't budge on the price. When I asked about coming down because of bluebook or NADA pricing being considerably lower, sales guy told me that because of the earthquake in japan there was now a SHORTAGE OR MOTORCYCLES so they could not go lower on the price. Do I look that stupid? Furthermore, the sales guy didn't even seem to give a crap about us. Really unfriendly dude. He also proceeded to talk crap on another local dealer claiming that his prices were so low because he falsely advertised them (which was ironic considering his concept of a discount that I previously mentioned). I have tried another shop in the area but had to repeatedly take it back for issues they created. When I want my bike fixed right, and done the first time correctly I take it to Honda Northwest. Stopped there months ago to have a key made. The key cost me $20. The key doesn't work for my bike. The key is useless. They told me they would send me a blank key that I could have cut some place else. It's been two months after seven phone calls they still have not sent a key. They refuse to refund my money and have told me just to throw the key in the trash. Want a refund or a key that works. Even a blank that they told me they would send me. I have searching for a motorcycle for several months. I was going to purchase from a private party, but happened to see a motorcycle posted in their website. I called, spoke to Jason, and visited the same day. The bike was in great shape, I felt no pressure, and after leaving I decided to purchase from them because of a few things: no pressure, nice down to earth salesman (Jason) and I was treated with respect. This was my first bike purchase. Very important to me to have a no hassle purchase. Compared to other dealers, Honda Northwest was the best one. I would definitely purchase from them again. I suggest taking your motorcycle to any other mechanic that you can. I dropped mine off and was told it would take 2-3 weeks, it took a month. DurIng inspection they said there were signs of a minor coolant leak and would need a new elbow to fix it but that it was on back order. I picked up my bike saw no signs of leakage and they said they would order the part and they would charge me for the part and coolant now and once the part came in all I would have to do is bring the bike back and the would put it up on a lift and do the work the next day and only pay for labor. Well a week later the called me and said the entire engine would need to be remove to replace this part and would cost thousands of dollars. I told them not to do any work and I would pick up the motorcycle. When I came to pick it up I asked why I was not informed of this issue on the origina service, there responds was that wish they could ask there mechanic but he quit. My bill was $450 dollars! For what you did no work to it they said well the had to take the plastics off and while they had already drain the coolant that they cleaned and tighten all the other hoses and joints. $450 dollars worth of cleaning and tightenIng that was not authorized. after arguing with service manger they took 50 off my bill, not enough by far. They also charged me for the coolant again and didn't refund the part they didn't install. Not to mention that the service manager was snicker every time I was explaining my complaint, can we say rude. Finally my motorcycle has never been out in the rain and durIng the time it was there it was left out in the rain, i could see that they tried to wipe it down but missed a lot. terrible time here, consider the Kawasaki or Suzuki dealers before you trust this Honda dealer. read more

To start, I don't usually write reviews, however, given my recent experience at Honda Northwest in Crystal Lake, IL I thought it best to share my experience with current and future customers of this establishment. In July of 2018, and upon return from South Dakota on my 2008 Honda Goldwing, I decided to get the tires on my 1989 Honda Goldwing (which I loaned to my brother for our ride to SD) replaced, and given that I live less than 5 miles from Honda Northwest, I decided to take it there for the tire replacement ((I had also bought my '83 Goldwing from Honda Northwest (different owners)). Upon completion, I picked up the bike, brought it home and parked it in the garage as I mainly ride my '08. In the spring of 2019 I changed the oil in both bikes and noticed that the fork cover on the '89 was missing and that a couple of the fender covers were not snapped into place. In addition, when I took it on the road to warm it up it seemed to have a "shake". I took the bike back to Honda Northwest and explained to the gentleman at the parts/service desk that the fork cover was missing since having the tires changed in July of '18 (in hopes that it was sitting on a shelf somewhere). His reply? "July of last year?, It's probably not around here anymore". First, it shouldn't be "around here anymore" anyway. It should be on my bike. Then I wouldn't have had to come back looking for it. Second, the response should have been "I apologize. We'll take a look for it and if we can't find it, we'll order you one". I also stated the bike had a shake since the tire change (keep in mind there's less than 50 miles on the bike since the tire change). His reply was "are you here to drop it off"? I stated I could, but would have to get my wife to pick me up. At that time, Jessie walked up and the parts/service guy states to him "you want him to bring it back, right"? Jessie asks what the problem is, and then states he'll take it for a ride to check the shake. Upon return he states he can feel a "slight" shake around 35 MPH and is going to take it into the shop to check the tire pressures. He brings the bike out and states they added air to the tires and noticed that there weren't any wheel weights on the front tire, but that "sometimes the wheel has a zero balance". He then states that they'll look for the fork cover. I asked that they call me whether they find it or not, so that if need be, I could try to locate one myself. To-date, no return call. I ended up locating and buying one off of Ebay. Here's the bottom line for me. I can live without a fork cover - it's a cosmetic item. I will not however skimp when it comes to the safety of my wife and I while riding. The tell-tale signs of poor workmanship leading to the possibility of an accident were all there. Fork cover missing (screws to hold cover were in-place), fender panels loose, wobble in front end, no wheel weights. If this were my dealership, and given the signs discussed above, I would have expected my team to pull the bike in, remove the wheel, check it for balance, and assure all bolts were torqued to spec's. To me, the time expended to do so is cheap insurance. At the end of the day, I'll remove the wheel myself and run it up to Nielsen's to have it balanced and then re-install it and torque to spec's (never said I didn't know how - have been doing it since I was 14 when I had my first bike - Suzuki TS185) - just didn't have the time.) We all have choices in life. I will not leave mine up to this dealer. read more

One star that is being generous! If I could rate lower I would. I was a willing and ready to be a spending customer. I bought my helmet there and so I thought I would take my bike there to be inspected after purchase. My bike is a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 and told them I wanted it looked over and repaired if they found something. Keep in mind I am a service advisor at a 5 star rated service center in Vernon Hills and know what it is like to provide quality service. I went in knowing my bike was 35 years old and even asked if they work on it. Jamie the service manager said yes. They had my bike a week in a half with no update. I called and told them if they could not get to it then I found someone that could. All of a sudden they freed up enough time to look it. Jamie called and gave me the run down I asked him to email me an estimate so I can review it. I replied moments later with a question and heard nothing! I emailed back the next day only to be told we do not work on bikes over 20 years old. I told him if you told me this I would have never left my bike in their inexperienced hands therefore not accumulating a fee. They demanded I paid for their evaluation. I explained since they did not work on bikes of my age I do not trust their opinion and would have to pay someone else to look it over. Long story kind of short I had to call the cops over 48 dollars. The manager (what a joke) he told me I now had to pay cash. I told him If that is how it was going to be I had plenty of time off paid to take him to court. After fighting for an hour they finally did the right thing and released my bike without fee. I think it was just because they knew that I didn't care if it cost me more I was going to drag this out as much as possible just to spite them. DO NOT GO THERE! They do not care about the customer and just insulted me and the shop I planned to go to. Funny enough the shop I plan on going to has 4.5 stars which is way better then this shop. I went in there just to check out what they had last week, not really buying anything til this summer. That did not deter the salespeople from bugging the living crap out of me the entire time. I felt claustrophobic they would just not let me be. The really seem to cater to the small bike - 600cc and below japanese cruisers. Made the mistake of giving my cell # to one of the salespeople - boy do i need my head examined for that. They have called me 3 times already. If the high pressure sales suits you, this is your spot. Crooks and Criminals... They had my 1981 Yamaha XS 1100 for 2 weeks in the prime riding season. I basically gave them free range to find problems with it as I just purchased it and wanted it looked over and repaired. After two weeks I called to get an update and they still had not gotten to it. At that time I told them I was going to come get it after work to take it to another shop that had time to work on it. I arrived to be told that they inspected it and they found a few things wrong with it. I said ok I want to fix them but this is where it gets good... They then stated they don't work on bikes this old. I was shocked. How can I trust the evaluation that you are trying to charge me for if you do not work on my type of bike. Long story short I had to call the cops and refuse to leave the premise until they gave me back my bike. They finally gave me my bike without paying the worthless inspection fee. I am a Service Advisor for a car repair facility and if a car came in that we did not work on I would not touch it or promise anything. Stay far away. read more

Went to Norhwest Honda today to get 2 tires mounted . Showed up 10 minutes before they opened because I saw the doors opened. Was helped within a couple minutes. The guy who helped me said it would be a couple hours before they could mount the tires which was acceptable. 5 hours later no phone call saying they were done so I called . Was told we have had people waiting we will get to them next should be about an hour. Showed up an hour and 20 minutes later and tires and wheels still sitting there. They told me would still be a while before they could get to them. After some obvious aggravation on my part they jumped on it. 10 minutes later tires were on the rims. Rims were brand new with no tires on them. Asked for the tires to not be balanced as they were for a TV commercial for the tire manufacture and I didn't want anything on the rim to distract from the product. "Cash or charge" " cash" I replied "$140" "How much?" "$140" "Did I break a window or tip something over in the showroom?" I am in the wrong business! There are a few motorcycles dealers you can really trust. I bought an used Kawasaki Vulcan 2005 last summer at Honda Northwest in Crystal Lake Illinois . The bike is beautiful in good shape and runs perfectly . This summer it needed some work with the gears, and I called them. They picked up the bike and fixed it for a reasonable cost. It is really good when you have a dealer that backs you up when you need it. I feel confident when I ride my bike with my wife on the expressway. I strongly recommend this motorcycle dealer if you need an honest sales person and a good mechanic for your bike's maintenance. read more

Uhhh yeah, don't waste your time with this place, I went here last week to look at a motorcycle and it was a total waste of time, I stood in the show room for 20 minutes before the parts guy asked if I needed help, I asked him for a sales person and he said he was unloading bikes in back (weird place for the sales guys to be) I asked him to get the sales man for me and 10 minutes later I was introduced to him. the sales man who showed me the bike didn't bother to introduce himself. we looked at the bike and it was in average condition minus the baseball sized dent in the tank and scratches and wear. I asked him how it ran and he said it wasn't inspected yet, he said the bike was $1,800 but the price was $2500 out the door (part of the fee was an inspection fee, which even though was never performed he said he HAD TO CHARGE ME FOR) I asked him how much he would go down on the price and he said none... WHAT??? the guy said too me "what do you want from me, this is an $1800 bike" at which point I produced the print out from kelly blue book valuing the bike at $1600 in EXCELLENT condition and the trade in at $1,000 in EXCELLENT condition ( the bike was no where near excellent condition) this rude piece of garbage told me to "go buy one for $1600 then", 'excuse me?' I said. The piece of garbage slime bucket sales-turd then said to me "why would I sell it for less? I've seen these sell for $1800, i've only been doing this for 30 years" Oh I see, you've been over charging people for bikes for over 30 years. this guy wouldn't negotiate on a bike he probably paid less than $1000 for and when he saw I wasn't interested in getting ripped off, he was super rude to me. do yourself a favor, don't waste your time in this second rate shop that looks like it was built in old resale clothing store, give it enough time and this place will go out of business like banzai and chicago cycle did (weird how all the motorcycle shops that are ran by con artist go out of business). let me give you the pros and cons of this den of rip off artist's known as honda northwest. pro's: nice motorcycle ride from chicago with some nice scenery along rt 31 cons: EVERY SINGLE OTHER PART OF DEALING WITH THIS PLACE FROM THE TIME I ARRIVED UNTIL THE TIME I LEFT. My 250 Rebel wouldn't start after the winter. Had it towed to Honda NW. They told me they were booked out three weeks. I totally understood since it was the beginning of the season. After a few weeks, I called and talked to Jamie. He told me it would be another week... four weeks total go by and I've called there at least five times talking to Jamie about what's going on with my bike. Diagnosis: a part missing from carb. I say, fine, fix it. Jamie left a message it was ready to be picked up. I go next morning and pay for it, then Jamie comes out from the back telling me I either need a new battery or they will have to jump start it to get it going so I can take it home (and go straight home, btw). I asked why he didn't mention that on his message saying it was ready. He said it slipped his mind. Well, you just missed out on making $100 on a battery, Jamie, cuz now I won't buy anything from you. I told him to jump it... The tech brings out my bike and I notice the tires aren't full. Really? So after requesting to fill up my tires, I got the hell out of there. Will never go back! read more

I bought an '03 Honda Shadow ACE there in the spring of '12 and couldnt be happier! The sales staff was helpful but not pushy and I couldnt be more pleased with the deal. I bought an 86 Yamaha Virago from this place for $1000. I told him I wanted to ride the rest of the year and would probably trade it in next year for a bigger bike that my wife and I could ride together. The bike looked to be in good shape but was missing the battery cover. So, I bought it. Two days later, the battery was dead. I charged the battery and two days later, it was dead again. I did some checks and saw the charging circuit was not charging the battery. I sent Jason an email and told him it was not charging. He sent an email back saying it was probably the stator...nothing else. No apology, no telling me to bring it in so they could look at it. Just, probably the stator. I replied and said, that is what I figured. I also said that I was not interested on fixing a bike, I just wanted to ride. I asked if he would be willing to take this bike back, and sell me a bike he had on the floor for an extra $2000. He replied and said that would not work. No counter offer, nothing. Just, that will not work. I asked him what would work. He replied $3300. The price for the bike on the floor was $3800. He was going to give me $500 for the bike I purchased 6 days earlier for $1000. I replied and said "this is really how you want to handle this?" I looked up the bike I wanted to trade for, and found his price was about $300 over blue book value. I looked up the bike I bought and saw he sold it to me for a couple hundred under blue book. I told him I figured he sold me the bike under blue book because he knew it needed a stator. He denied knowing there was anything wrong with it. I reminded him that I planned on buying a bigger bike. I also told him my son was looking at bikes. I said, "you would rather sell me a defective bike and lose 2 potential sales, rather than do the right thing?" He replied and told me to bring the bike in, and if the parts did not cost too much, he would "help" me with it. I then looked at yelp and saw the reviews. I replied and said after looking at his reviews on yelp and the way he treated me so far, I decided it was best I avoid his shop, make sure my son avoids his shop, and I would warn all my friends. He replied and said he would still like to "help". I found the part online and changed it for $133. I replaced it myself, and it works great. Stay away from this place. This guy has no integrity. He would rather sell you a defective bike than get you as a return customer. I have no problem with the price I paid for my bike. My issue is that less than a week later he was trying to screw me over by giving half price for the defective bike he sold me, that I believe he knew was defective. This spring the back of the scooter almost fell off.They stripped out screws and put back in with lock tight but screws were falling off every where .longer screws or the next size would have been the right repair . I was getting in a quick ride during lunch and I started to have loss of power issues, hesitation, speedometer jumping around, etc.. I turned around and thankfully made it home. But the bike would not start again. I called Jason at Honda Northwest and told him of the issue. He suspected it may be the battery (my bike is almost 5 years old and on the original battery). I asked him if he could pick up the bike since I live less than 5 miles away and he said no problem. I was concerned about how much money this would cost since money has been tight recently and I eagerly awaited his call to let me know what the issue was. He called back to let me know it was indeed the battery. (I was happy it wasn't the stator or something more expensive) I gave him the ok to put a new one in. Not only did they pick up the bike for free, they installed the battery for free, put on a battery tender lead for free, gave me a discount on the battery and even offered to drop the bike back off at my house!
