Steve just finished a job for me. I had a heavy exterior door that had come off its hinges and I had no idea how to fix it. Folks had told me that fixing doors was a difficult thing to do, so I didn't want to tackle this job without any experience. Steve happened to be in the neighborhood one day doing some work for neighbors. I met him on my street and asked him if he could fix my door. Steve looked at it and we talked over how to deal with the problem. We settled on an approach, we settled on a price and scheduled a time to get the work done As promised, Steve showed up for the appointment with all the necessary materials and tools. The wood in the frame needed to be replaced and Steve took it on confidently. After he was done, he invited me to come out and inspect the work, which I did. He cheerfully made some adjustments to address some of my concerns. The door is working just fine. I'd recommend Steve for any door issues for sure. I have confidence that he can do what he says he can do. He shows up when he says he will and offers his work at a fair price. I didn't give him five stars only because I'm not a five star giver. I had to rebuilt a 6'x9' wooden platform that we use as a stage for music performances (as our current one squeaked & didn't have enough support beams). Excellent work. Steve was easy to reach, and helped me with several things that needed attention. He figured out how to cut through a built-in bookcase to access an outlet that needed changing, without the cut being noticeable afterward. He planed doors that were scraping the rugs, and fixed door hinges, a broken water sprinkler, a plantation shutter that wouldn't close right, and a clogged sink drain. I had Steve and his competent crew take care of several jobs for my home in Valley Village, CA. This included relatively simple stuff like rebuilding a flower box to more challenging stuff like cutting and hanging a new, odd-size door for a water heater enclosure and creating new supports for a large, disintegrating arbor. I would highly recommend Stephen, He has done a number of jobs for me but the most recent was to re-stucco an outside wall after a retaining wall repair and to put in new drywall on the inside of the garage. Unfortunately, like a lot of other reviewers on Yelp, I booked an appointment with Steve that he did not show up for. He seems like a nice enough guy on the phone- but again- I should have let this be a red flag for me like some of the other reviewers- he was very distracted and scattered while on the phone. He reassured me he would be at my home at the agreed upon time. We had guests coming into town and I needed some work done prior to their arrival. Due to Steve's busy schedule, he was able to work me in later in the week of my call. Well- you can guess where this is going- Steve just didn't show up. And didn't answer his cell phone when I called to check in with him. And didn't return my voicemail. So now I am left with repairs that need to be made- and no time to schedule someone else to come out prior to my guest's arrival. If you need someone to come to your home who is reliable, I would keep looking. read more

Stephen is a crook. I called him for an estimate on my screen door that was not closing properly. I required a written estimate for the moving company that did some damage when moving me into my new apartment. He stopped by, took a look, and "promised" he would email me the estimate my Monday morning (it was Friday afternoon). He also asked to be paid in cash (which should have been my first clue). To make a long story shorter, I never received the estimate that I paid for and he promised to deliver. He basically just stole my money and didn't deliver. So buyer beware!!! read more

I just hired Stephen to do some work in my house but have been disappointed with partof the job done. I asked for trim around my door and window to be replaced due to a dog chewing on it. I also asked for drywall in my garage. The drywall seems to be done okay but the trim is a disaster. Asked him to get matching trim and it doesnt. Trim isnt even flush with the door or window and corners not squared up. I used stephen because of the yelp reviews. We will see how stephen handles this issue fromhere on out. read more
