Wonton Soup when you're not feeling well. I did have to add shrimp. As it used to have back in the day..Can definitely tell chefs have changed or something. The pork wontons were falling apart the shrimp was not as big before and soft. It used to have a leafy bok choy and it's plain now.oh and these "crab" cream cheese wontons. The crab is imitation. One of what could be considered the best hole-in-the-wall Lao restaurants in Portland, you don't come for the aesthetics. If I had to order only one item here it would be the crying tiger. The meat is good on its own and the sauce kicks it up a notch! Unfortunately it wasn't as good at my most recent visit with the meat being too tough and rice too dry but they could've been having an off day -- it was my friend's first time and he said Farmhouse's was better. I've also had the papaya salad with sticky rice, chicken drunken noodle, chicken pad thai, khao piek, khao poon, and tom kar. The drunken noodle was ordered with a level 4/5 spice and it delivered a kick. My boyfriend prefers the boat noodles over the khao poon. I've ordered the khao piek twice now and I like how thick the soup is when it comes out but that does not last long and thins out as it is eaten and mixed. We ordered seafood tom kar and they gave us chicken instead which wasn't a big deal until they charged us the seafood pricing of $19.95 (not listed on the menu) so be aware of that. I also ordered the tom kar thinking it was like a tom kha but it is definitely not -- literally just coconut milk with no additional flavor and I would not get it again or recommend their Thai dishes (besides the crying tiger). It would be nice if the menu had item numbers labeled with the pictures as it was a little hard to tell which picture paired with which item and there is no pricing. They updated their menu since the last time I went and still no item numbers corresponding to pictures. The menu is now in a horizontal layout in a binder, which I find hard to use. Honey Jar is IYKYK for eastsiders. It's an unassumingly place located in a strip mall with plenty of tables inside so it's never crazy packed. I always go with either the Crying Tiger, Boat Noodle Soup or Khal Peak Noodle. Pair that with Lao style papaya salad and sticky rice and you got a combo right there. Why do I have to get such spicy food to where people ask me if I am having a stroke.. why does my green curry (amazing by the way, the curry was so flipping good) come out looking like red curry, speckled with pain flakes.. why must I say "give me a thai ten" well here they gave me the max, and it was hot. I think I met my match. The pad kee mao, my staple was a quick snag, and those oily noodles hold that spice like no other, so usually I go with a solid high middle eating so others can enjoy the food. The Honey Jar provides quick prompt service! I enjoy their Tom Kha Gai soup, worked myself up to medium, and their shrimp salad rolls. That's my go to meal! Solid. A good little Thai place in a strip mall across from a plaid pantry. Been here many years. At least 10 since I moved into the neighborhood. Was coming here when it still had fresh doughnuts and Thai food. My go to place for Thai that is so close to home. Make sure to order the salad rolls with tofu if you are allergic to Shrimp. Cute little Thai restaurant located in a strip mall. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They have outdoor seating, indoor seating a bar area with a pool table and video lottery. It's located on the route 21 bus line. I went there today to order a Crying Tiger (SEUA RONG HAÏ) it was very delicious so I ordered another to take back to the hotel and eat later. I have been frequenting Honey Jar for the last decade, and even though I moved farther out to the outskirts of Gresham, I still stop by to get food from my favorite Thai spot. The biggest things that set apart this shop are their freshly made foods across the board, ranging from Pad Thai, noodles, or even seafood. The serving sizes are huge and can be used as a family style meal if you want to share! The prices for everything is very fair as well and sums up the whole experience. The flavor of the food is amazing and somehow fulfills my western palate as well as my wife's more traditional style as well. Other great things about the restaurant would be the selection of Thai beers, and the ability to rent out their side room for occasions. read more

I ordered this through UberEats and was incredibly disappointed. They have a 4.7 star rating on Uber and we ordered the Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, and an order of Egg Rolls. The food tasted okay, definitely not a contender up against places like Thai Terrace or Wild Tiger, but not so bad I couldn't eat it. One of our drinks didn't show (driver said they only gave him one but he could easily be lying and just kept it for himself.) The flavor of the curry was lacking and the curry itself separated easily and was runny. The potatoes could have cooked a little longer but it was still edible. The curry was about a half size compared to what you normally get at a Thai restaurant. The pad thai was pretty dry and looked/tasted like it sat out for longer than the drive home. I added some pad thai sauce myself after it arrived. The flavor before I added anything wasn't really anything special, and tasted like it was either burned a little bit, cooked in a dirty pan, or was missing something entirely. The egg rolls were okay. Not bad, not spectacular. I woke up this morning with nausea and a stomach ache, same with my partner. Probably won't be ordering from here again. :/ on the plus side, they are open late so if you're willing to compromise on flavor and risk the stomach ache for convenience's sake they have that going for them. read more
