Amazing menu options! Just the front side (the back has more options!)

I've never had Thai food before but when me and my friend came across this restaurant randomly i needed to try it! It was so good! Best first impression on Thai food! I'm definitely going to come here again!

    Mongolian Beef special $17

Tiny hole in the wall w/ all the classic Thai favorites. Decent portions for decent price but wouldn't say cheap. The drunken noodles were good, as well as a Mongolian beef special they had which was kind of a Chinese style stir fry. They also had a noodle soup that was like a pho. My brother asked for extra chili oil and the guy said "be careful" but he still added them all and then ended up puking in the parking lot. The seafood mango curry wasn't my fav tho, it was all just the kinda cheap frozen seafood and the mango wasn't ripe & no mango flavor in the curry. It is basically a little shack attached to a gas station, mostly to go but they have a couple little covered tables out front.

Spring Rolls, drunken noodles, pad prik Khing.

Spring rolls were very good as was the drunken noodles but everything was very spicy and I asked for 2 & 3 stars.

Love this Thai food! Place a phone order and arrive 20 minutes later for a pickup!! My regular order is Chicken Pad Thai (#3 spicy hot) , Chicken Salad Rolls with peanut sauce and a Thai Iced Tea.

    Larb atop iceburg lettuce

I added an extra star because the owner is soo nice but iceberg lettuce in larb??? No cucumbers or cabbage? The flavor was there but the lettuce made it so gross and soggy :( Hoping this review encourages Al's to start making larb the traditional way

    Basil Chicken

One of the best thai food spots I have tried and it is especially delicious after a long drive! I ended up trying the Pad See ew, sweet chili wings, and the basil chicken 10/10!!! I recommend you try this spot, but please be patient as it is only 1 person taking orders and cooking the food! Lida is amazing and super sweet! Also the price is very fair for delicious taste and amount you get, especially in this economy! I highly recommend this spot for everyone!

Pad Thai and pumpkin curry $31!

Outrageously overpriced! I had pad Thai and pumpkin curry--tasty but smallish servings $31?! And YES--a tip on the card machines of minimum 15%. I know how to skip over that. Zero chance for a tip on these Togo prices! I won't be back unless they lower prices to reasonable--$12 max value for these items.

    Drunken noodle (Pad Kee Mao)

In a non-descript pseudo- industrial area east of I-5 and the expo center is what might be the best Thai eatery in the Portland area. Use your GPS because Al's is not easy to find nor get to. The roads to get to Marine Drive are more like loops and off-ramps but it's worth the trouble. There is parking for maybe 5 cars and only 4 tables (2 inside, 2 on the porch). We've had plenty of good pad thai, pad see ewe, and assorted curries at so many Thai eateries but our go-to and tester dish is pad kee mao (a.k.a drunken noodle). It's similar to Cantonese chow fun (wide rice noodle) except spicier and flavored with basil. You also get your choice of protein (pork, chicken, tofu, beef, shrimp). For $12, we shared a dish of pork drunken noodle......no leftovers but plenty of entree for 2. We chose a spice level of 3 which would be plenty adequate for most palates. I'm guessing 5 would sear tongues. The plate was a perfect balance of noodle, broccoli, peppers, onions, and meat. No item was lacking. The dish normally comes with bamboo shoots too but asked to omit it, no problem. Perfect spice, salt and sweetness level. They have a pretty complete thai menu of prices, noodles, curries, etc. And the prices were in the $11 to $15 range depending on protein requested. Like so many other diners have noted, the lady who cooked the dish was super nice and mentioned how she made her own spice concoctions. This is a place to go a little out of the way if you want excellent Thai carryout.

    Menu with old prices

I love drunken noodles. I typically use this dish to rate how good the restaurant is. All we need was one dish between my husband and I to share. It was perfect portion for lunch. It seems like a family business. The owner lady is the chief and the son takes the order. They are both very friendly. The chief wore a face mask during cooking which is good for covid-19 precautions. Beware that the menu doesn't match the actual pricing. I ordered one dish of drunken noodle. The menu lists $11.5 but he charged me $12. They may have recently raised the prices. The dish offers a decent portion. We chose pork and there was plenty of pork in the dish. We also asked the chief to hold the bamboo shoots since both of us don't like it. There is a strong flavor of basil which is just right. The flavor was excellent, a little sweet and salty goodness in every bite. We asked for 3.5 stars for spiciness. I can definitely go for 4.5 to 5 stars. I just asked for a hot sauce separately. The chief came out and chatted with us while we were eating on the patio. She told me that she made the hot sauce herself. I highly recommend her homemade hot sauce! Very, very spicy.

Fried Chicken Roti Combo - holy fried chicken crispy, combo comes with 1x leg and 1x thigh cut into two pieces. Curry was delicious and balance, excellent when dipped with the crispy roti or fried chicken. Pickled veggies were a great pairing and sweet and sour added another dimension. 2. Pad Thai - glistening noodles served inside an egg omelet. Very solid pad thai - sweet, sour, salty. Don't forget to add the fresh shrimp, these were cooked perfectly and plump. I recommend the restaurant should take the shrimp tail shell off for us. 3. Thai Basil Lemonade - solid lemonade, NEED more basil flavor. Overall, I'd come here again to eat and try other items as well. I'll give it a 5 star for now but more 4.5.

I'll start by saying this place is definitely not big so come with the expectation that you might have to wait for a table. There's only about 8-10 tables in the place and it's definitely geared towards smaller groups. Regardless we ordered at the front and then were able to find a seat. Wound up ordering the combo to try and get a taste of everything. The portions were solid and everything was super tasty. The chicken is perfectly breaded and delicious. It's a bit of a messy meal so just come with that in mind. Have a bunch of different options that also looked tasty. Will have to come back and try again. Service was fine. They were kind and cleared the table. Water is self serve at front of the restaurant and they clearly do a fair amount of takeout. Cool local spot to definitely check out.

I always order the rice combo platter with minced pork and Chinese sausage, it also comes with a lot of rice and egg and bbq pork - then add the crispy pork belly for that crunch! I understand they do not say "vegan" as the other two items do, but they are definitely not "meatless". I originally wanted to order the #20 Ba-Mhee Tofu. I asked the employee if the bone broth was made from pork, and he said yes. I then proceeded to order the #22 Tofu Curry Noodle. He did not think to tell me that this item was also made of pork. Unfortunately, I knew the moment I took a bite that this was pork broth. Not only this, but the broth was overly sweet compared to any other khao soi I've had in my life. The egg noodles were all stuck together. I did enjoy the tofu, they were firmer in texture. My friend ordered the the tom yum and said it also didn't taste like tom yum, and she has been to Thailand before. We both liked the Thai tea, it wasn't too sweet and only $3. They give the side spices/peppers without you having to ask. There is a clean bathroom for customers. You are expected to bus your own table. Would not recommend.
