Unfortunately, the experience fell short. The seating is uncomfortable (high tables with low chairs), the décor is loud, service is decent - the manager walks around checking, and the Peking duck is just so-so. We ordered: *String beans - tender and fine *XLB (soup dumplings) *Beijing duck XLB: *Well made, none broken *Skin is fine *Soup is slightly sweet *Filling tastes processed The duck is pre-sliced, and I doubt it comes close to the traditional 108 slices. They do let you take the bones home. I came specifically because they use thin pancakes instead of steamed buns, but the pancakes were sticky, damp, and rather cold; they need careful handling to unfold. When the duck was served, the two slots for cucumber and scallions were empty. We ordered a bottle of wine. The server had to open it elsewhere because her opener was broken. When she returned, she poured directly into our glasses. I understand this is a casual restaurant and formal service isn't expected--I'm okay with that. (Are they still in the soft opening period?) The duck itself is small. We could have ordered more, but didn't. The entire time I sat there, I kept wishing I were a few inches taller and that I'd brought two phone books with me. The visual assault is hard to stomach. On the plus side, the bathroom is clean and spacious. However, the stall I used had no bag hook. Isles are wide but tables are small. It has two sections: the duckies and hot pots. XLB came first. The juice and vinegar made the plates messy. But they didn't change when the duck arrived. When my friend asked for fresh plates, the server's reaction showed this might not be their routine, but she did so promptly with a smile. She has a trainee following her. The restaurant has two sections: the duckies with a menu, and the hotpot side is buffet style. Either I heard from my friend or read it somewhere, that they'll charge you for wasting food, which I like and agree with: good for them. (Ok found it: on their web site: We reserve the right to apply a $13.99/lb surcharge for unfinished food.) In looking through my photos for this 'charge' phrase, I found their BJ Duck photo, which is inaccurate compared to what we got: the pancakes in the photo that got me there to begin with look flat and dry - the way they should be.

Tried the new Chen's Duck & Dumplings menu at Hong BBQ & Hot Pot and it was soOoOo, so, so so good! Hong BBQ & Hot Pot in Brandon is already known for its all-you-can-eat hot pot, but they've recently added a Chen's Duck & Dumplings menu, and it's definitely worth checking out. I visited during a soft opening and had an amazing experience trying items outside my usual comfort zone. The Chen Peking duck was the standout! It was incredibly crispy skin with juicy meat (honestly reminded me of chicharrón in the best way). We also tried the mango nigoir liquor, pan-fried buns, veggie dumplings, jajang noodles, heritage pork wonton soup, chicken dumplings, chili shrimp dumplings, crab rangoon, and green beans. Everything was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and it was fun sampling such a wide variety of dishes. The atmosphere was lively, the service was attentive--shout out to our amazing waiter Ria, and the new menu adds an exciting layer to an already popular spot. If you're in Brandon and love dumplings, duck, or trying something new, this is a must-try.

We went for my daughter's birthday, there were 10 of us in the party. First off , the decor in the place was so freaking cute! I loved the little guy in the front. It was my first time eating hot pot. The waitress explained the menu and ordering process very well. I was definitely overwhelmed at all of the options they had for your hot pot, but the food came out quickly, was very fresh and the broth I ordered was delicious (Szechuan). It was spicy but very flavorful. They had a huge sauce bar and some self serve appetizers as well. I didn't get the BBQ add on, but it's only $6 added to your hot pot (or vice verse). The waitress made sure to tell us that if we didn't order BBQ but "touched" it, they would automatically charge you a fee, no warning. I definitely stole a piece of pork belly from the grill (was delicious) haha. Overall, I thought the food was really good and I'll definitely be back.

We were looking for a place to have dinner and noticed that Hong BBQ & Hot Pot had just opened, so we decided to check it out. The concept is really fun, interactive, and perfect for groups. You can choose BBQ, where you cook your food on a grill at your table, Hot Pot, where you cook meat and other items in a hot broth, or both for an extra $5. It's an all-you-can-eat, which makes it even better. We decided to go with the BBQ option since I wanted certain meat options (NY strip), which weren't available with the Hot Pot. They also have a full sauce station and another section with appetizers and desserts. One thing that disappointed me a little was that the buffet items didn't seem very fresh, it reminded me a bit of those older, run-down Chinese buffets. That said, even though some of the meats came unseasoned and required us to season them ourselves, they were still tasty and gave us a chance to try different options. The decor was detailed and on-theme, and you can tell they put effort into it. The restaurant was also very clean, which is always great to see. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'm excited to come back again with a group of friends.

Hong BBQ & Hot Pot just opened up in Brandon and it's a solid spot for AYCE hot pot and K-BBQ. The interior is clean, spacious and well decorated. It costs $31.99 + $5.99 for both AYCE hot pot and bbq. You order everything with the server and they bring it out to you. The only items on the buffet are a couple of apps, sides, fruit, ice cream and of course the sauce bar. The tom yum soup base wasn't flavorful enough, but the green peppercorn and kimchi soup bases were seasoned better. We liked the short ribs/brisket/beef belly/tongue and ordered several rounds of those meats. Service was pretty attentive and they changed out our grill pretty often. We were a party of 4 and there were maybe 3 other tables that were there until closing around midnight on a Sunday night. And of course we didn't forget to finish our late dinner with some ice cream!

This location has been many things over the years and although I do miss Black Rock, I thoroughly enjoy the hot pot at Hong BBQ & Hot Pot! I've been back about three times now and have yet to have a bad experience. I've tried both the hot pot and Korean bbq but I love the hot pot more! There is an endless amount to combinations to try and the experience is really what you make it! The process is super easy and efficient. Reya was our server and she was personable and kind. Def give them a try if you haven't already!

We used to go to this place for their hot pot and it was awesome. 5 star review. This time, we went for their Chen's peking duck and dumplings which is a partnership i think with Hong. Overall , 1 star. Chen's menu is a pricey and so is the peking duck. Half peking duck for 50usd and yoi have to call in advance otherwise it is a 45 minutes wait st least: with hungry kiddos, nope. We're skipping PK duck then. Whole duck is at 90usd in case your wondering. Yup, i hope that duck is a size of medium turkey. We ordered a few from their new menu (see pics). Food portion and how it is shown in the photos are totally different. the xiao oong bao is the only one that's at par. Kinda disappointing overall experience this time. Taste wise, very far from what we would expect for the price we're paying. Bland or tasteless and very small portion. See photos for reference. Service wise, well, the server was minimally seen.the whole dining area is well decorated because of Hong trademark. With the price they have, its the price level where we have tried with other chinese restaurant to have tasty meal or dishes and serves house tea in chinese wares, cups, glass. Here, our water is served on a plastic cup like to go plastic cup. Oh boy. Not recommendable to others unless you want to flush some cash dow the drain. If we will come back, it will be for their hotpot only and not Chen's Peke Duck... i mean Peking duck and dimsum.

Nice and clean , good staffs and good service. The food is not bad but the soup that we ordered was not that good. We ordered Tomyum soup for hotpot. I m Thai so Tomyum soup was not Thai soup at all. Besides that everything else is good

    Peking duck

Amazing food, I had the duck and dumplings and the duck was delicious. It was the actual Asian version of roasted duck. The wonton soup and cucumbers were all very good.

don't listen to the bad reviews, they probably come from mean ol' people who just had a real bad…read moreday and don't know how to keep it to themselves. i love this place. the food is savory and the staff is friendly. i really wish they had more dine-in's, because the ambiance is worth enjoying. front-of-house is modestly, yet cozily dressed. it just makes it a little awkward for introverts like me to get comfortable when i have the only party present. but hey, if you're into a quiet spot, this place is perfect. when it comes to the food, it makes me melt. first bite and i'm just wishing the plate regenerated over and over again. i only order the sushi because im picky (yet getting the one thing typical picky eaters don't touch ) but every time without fail it's so yummy and very well-plated. there's an artist behind that counter, i swear. moral of the story is that this place is perfect for u, especially if you live in the valrico suburbs just down the road. quick, easy, and beyond satisfying.

We ordered chicken chow mein, chicken pad Thai, house special lo mein, vegetable fried rice and egg…read morerolls. I have to say that everything was average to above average and I was especially surprised that the pad Thai was as good as it was. Also a big plus for very healthy portions where each entrée is really enough for two people. Also give the place plus for having it ready in less than 15 minute call in for pick up. Would gladly go back and try additional items. Sorry but not able to take pictures
