But this fried rice was so good. It seasoned perfectly with the fatty beef make that whole fried rice flavors were very rich. I got the Uni sushi and it was the sweetest and the creamiest thing I've ever had. The server told me that they get fresh Uni every week from Japan. I also got the sushi combo and they were very nice that they let me substitute tuna to more salmon because I personally don't like tuna. Everything was so fresh. OK, I was spoiled in San Diego with Michelin Star Ramen, but this is the first spot since moving back to Tampa that I feel is on the same level as back in San Diego. Let's start with the ambiance. I have been at this location when it was previously another restaurant and the upgrades done are exceptional. Kanji is a perfect date ambiance. (bring a jacket though, it can get chilly). As far as service, I've never had bad service here, and the recommendations are truly to leave you satisfied, not just to pad the bill. THE FOOD. The spicy Tonkatsu, fried oysters, gyosa, fried rice...heck almost anything on the menu as been amazing and the Sushi isn't stingy. You might pay a little more but you get a lot more. I was there on a weekend at lunchtime, so unfortunately they did not have any lunch special available. I sat at the sushi bar and was immediately pleasantly greeted. I decided to go with 2 rolls for lunch; a basic yellowtail roll, and a spider roll, which comes with fried softshell crab. While I was waiting, the sushi chef provided me with a specialty piece of yellowtail that was amazing! My rolls came out quickly, and they were absolutely perfect. While less pieces than I'm used to, the yellowtail roll was packed with fish. And the soft shell crab was perfectly cooked, plus I love that they provided the deep fried legs, too. Everything I received was beautifully plated on slate dishes, which is always a nice touch. Yes, I do think its more expensive than other sushi places ($4 for a soda, come on?!) but it was really excellent sushi. If I'm ever in the area again (which, honestly, I hope not to be), I would definitely return. read more

The sushi place is one of the top five in the Tampa Bay area. I normally visit this spot on the weekends, which is moderately crowded. There usually isn't a wait, would recommend calling in ahead just in case. I normally order the shrimp tempura appetizer. Although the full quality is pretty good, the batter can be a little bit greasy. The shrimp tempura roll is pretty good. We also order the Ramen, which is the highlight. I love the interior of kanji, very upscale and great service. I loved they keep the aesthetic all the way to the napkin on your table; now that's a brand. I've heard amazing things about their sushi from many different people so I had to check it out myself. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. I did find myself wanting more than the one roll I ordered and that's how I know it's good lol. The sesame seeds on as well on top gave it another elevated flavor profile I enjoyed. Now to what else I ordered, the signature Kanji Ramen and the Mojito mocktail. The ramen was good but it did not blow my socks off, I just think it needs a lil more flavor. There's a ton of good sushi in Brandon, but Kanji has been a consistent favorite in my rotation for a while now. The vibe here is just right--whether I'm posted up at the bar solo or hanging with friends, family, or whoever, it's always a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy some great food. Their happy hour deals are insane. It's so cheap I always end up ordering more than I need, which is never a problem because the leftovers are just as good the next day. The menu has some cool twists too. Obviously their sushi rolls are legit, but don't sleep on the oysters or curry chicken. I know it's a sushi place, but those two are always fire. We decided last minute to go out for Valentine's Day dinner and I knew wouldn't be able to get into any of the hot spots in Tampa so I hopped on yelp to look for a new sushi spot to try. We began with two mocktails / the Mango Lemons (really good) and Strawberry Lychee Yogurt (also good but mellow) and two appetizers. A shrimp/veggie tempura and sashimi. The sashimi was fresh and delicious, tempura was typical tempura. I ordered a spicy tuna hand roll, and their Valentines roll. My husband ordered Spiderweb, rainbow and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was delicious and came out with great timing. Service was excellent from the moment we entered until we left. We will def go back and want to take some fellow sushi loving friends! Some prices are a little higher than normal but the typical rolls are pretty average priced. We ordered 4 trays of gyozas, 3 sets of bao buns, 1 tray of pork belly skewers, 7 sushi rolls, the specialty fries, and the chocolate mousse for dessert! Gyozas were very good. The fried chicken bao was our favorite over the pork bao. The pork belly skewers were great as well and we look forward to trying their other skewer options. My husband is the sushi guy and he enjoyed all but one. He didn't enjoy the Philadelphia roll. He did enjoy the California, dynamite, Mexican, & tiger roll. I am a little more choice with my sushi and I enjoyed the California roll as well. The chocolate mousse is very light and airy. You expect dark chocolate when you take your first bite but it's very subtle and refreshing. My son got the strawberries and cream and he enjoyed all of it!
