Literally the worst Chinese food I ever had in life, the use the lowest quality ingredients

This is my favorite place for Chinese take-out! The delightful experience begins with the friendly family members who take your order. Every dish I have had here has been delightful. The level of seasoning is just perfect. I particularly enjoy the way they prepare their vegetables so they maintain their integrity. Personal favorites include the House Special Wonton Soup, Roast Pork with Chinese Vegetables, and Vegetable Egg Foo Young. read more

Hong Kong offers excellent Chinese food at low prices. This place is a hidden gem, located as they are in the rather unglamourous Willow Creek strip mall on Jones Ferry Rd in Carrboro. You would not expect the food at a place like this to be nearly as good as it is. It is fresh food cooked well, without loads of oil. For the money, I find Hong Kong to be the best food deal in town. A lot of people do take-out, but they have five booths if you want to eat there. The ambience is good, if humble. The family who runs the place are all nice. I like the fact that they do not play music or have TV running all the time, things which can be real irritants in a lot of inexpensive places. Not the place for a first date, but I usually eat there instead of take-out. Overall, this is my favorite business of any kind in Carrboro. I eat there three or four times a week. It has excellent food, excellent service, and the prices cannot be beat. Try it yourself! read more

They're super friendly. I'm here visiting for an extended period of time from New Jersey, and I love the way they prepare the food here. Really reminds me of home. My go-to Chinese takeout spot! I don't understand what some of the bad reviews are for here. I'm from New York and we have our pick of the litter as far as strip mall Chinese food goes... and this place is pretty solid. I've had the sesame chicken, kung pao chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, egg drop soup, wonton soup, crab rangoons, orange chicken.... you name it. This is place is better than average when you look at nearby competitors (not looking at you, Gourmet Kingdom), but compared to my spots up north, it's average. Better than China Wok in Carrboro plaza though... their fried rice is just sad. read more

Fresh, authentic, and cheap! Not the fastest but not slow either (maybe we were just there at a busy time). Also of note is that prices on the menu online are less than they are in real life, but it is still a great price for the quantity you get. We will be back! read more

I used to get takeout at Hong Kong about 10 years ago and it was really good and inexpensive, but then I stopped eating Chinese food for a while. Got takeout there tonight and wow was it mediocre to poor. Everything tasted the same. Nothing really bad, but just boring and uninspired. But it is cheap. read more

Hunan beef, fried rice, egg roll and soda - $11 but only worth about $6. Yup it was made to order but wasn't as good as what they serve at Panda Express. Serving was smaller than expected and there wasn't much meat in the Hunan beef. Not many alternatives for Chinese nearby - next time I'll opt for someplace else. read more

Wanted to try this place out because it's near our new place in Carrboro... and we're always hungry to find a good local Chinese restaurant. Sadly, I don't think this will be it. I tried the Kung Pao Chicken lunch special. Not particularly great: too many filler vegetables, heavy on the oil, rubbery chicken, and, in general, not particularly spicy or flavorful. Reminded me of a lot of generic chinese food court places at malls. The place was inexpensive and friendly enough, but unfortunately, based on my limited sample, just not great food. read more

Simple, quick, easy and relatively inexpensive. Best for take-out orders and "I'm too tired to cook" moments after a long work day. Some dishes are a little underwhelming and can be improved by requesting extra spicy. Sometimes a little too salty, but generally good otherwise. read more

Great selections for under 10 bucks. Food is tailored to the oily and fried side but most items taste good. Recommend the fried dumplings which are handmade. Sushi and fruits are not very fresh though. Better than other Chinese restaurants on Franklin. read more

Dim Sum on weekends and holidays is a treat. It's best when you arrive with a group of 6 - 8, so that you can taste and enjoy the very many different dishes that arrive in the carts. Surprisingly inexpensive for all the food. read more

Been there twice and eaten in and taken out. Hot and Sour Soup is good. Kids like Sesame Chicken and General Tso's. They have more chicken and less coating than other folks. They substitute Lo Mein for rice which I appreciate 'cause kids prefer. Hunam and Szechuan are quite similar and both listed as spicy but Szechuan was actually spicy. Not your usual goopy take out sauce. No this isn't gourmet but did you look at the price? A huge egg roll and substitute Lo Mein (which has some vegetable and quite good) and plenty of food for $7.45 as a combination. For take out quality Chinese in the area it's great. For better food go to Red Lotus. read more

I love Hong Kong, Its definitely for fast food lovers, and not to be compared with P.F Chang's or anything. But the food is good and tasty, not loaded down with salt. I like the fact that they don't cook with MSG, which works well for my mother who gets migraines. I often order the fried chicken wings and chicken fried rice for $5.00 its yummy to me. Pretty solid Chinese - nothing spectacular but if you have the urge its worth it. Good egg rolls, big portions.

Great tofu options, I enjoy the general tsos.They are extremely friendly here and less expensive than most asian food restaurants in Carrboro. read more

okay here's my review of Hong Kong Chinese restaurant in Carrboro nc I've been eating take out from here since 2000 til 2014-2016 it was great for years great cooks great mngment-same thing in 2014 however about five days ago I've realized that all restaurants dynasties must come to an end Hong Kong is one of those casualties of war:( restaurant was hot as the dessert no inside ac for eating inside:( food quality is not good egg roll was uncooked rice was uncooked &prices have-r too high mngment has changed therefore quality of restaurant has deteriorated I'm unfortunately would not recommend them it's a sad day for me to have to hunt&find a new Chinese restaurant it's the end of days for Hong Kong chinese restaurant: ( good bye my old favorite restaurant friend have a good retirement :( I'll miss u: ( well if u like eating here&don't expect high quality Chinese food then yes this restaurant is ok for you me not so much: ( we'll happy eating out day everyone: ) signed aaron eckardt read more
