    Hong Kong Chinese Food: outside

Tried this place last night. PROS -Easy to find parking -several selections -looked appetizing -big portion CONS - greasy/ overfried egg rolls - rice was uneven with white rice in between fried rice portions -seating area did not look so inviting Not sure I will return but I guess I've appeased my mind since I always looked towards the business when in this shopping area.

The original plan was to have Thai food for lunch. But first, gotta make a stop at T-Mobile next door to claim that Tuesday perk! I couldn't help but look up after putting my perk in the trunk and spotted this place. Immediately, my appetite 86'd the Thai food craving and called an audible: Chinese food it is! There was nothing bangin' about this place. It's almost like a plain-Jane-what-you'd-expect from a no-nonsense eatery. There were a couple of tables occupied but most people came through for take out. There was one person ahead of me, so I got the chance to take a look at what they had to offer. Most of the dishes consist of chicken, maybe a couple of pork dishes, egg rolls, steamed vegetables. I also noticed a fried fish filet. But I went for a 2-item combo: sesame chicken and salt and pepper fried chicken with half white rice and half noodles. I watched the young lady put my food together, and immediately I noticed how generous she was with the helpings. I knew off the bat the amount of food I got would yield a 2nd meal! NOODLES: Typical of most Chinese fast food spots. I'll even admit it's pretty comparable to Panda Express' version. Good seasoning, great chew. I liked it! SESAME CHICKEN: The chicken was cooked tender and juicy. However way they made the sauce was a really good blend of savory with a hint of sweet, and if you feel compelled for some heat, red peppers aplenty. (I skipped it, not really a spicy food kinda gal.) I liked this as well! FRIED CHICKEN W/ SPICY SALT & PEPPER: It's their own version of salt and pepper chicken and it's SOOOO GOOOD!!! The wings are bigger in comparable to most wings restos. Deep fried crispy, on the outside, moist and really juicy on the inside, and their blend of salt and pepper was perfect! Like the sesame chicken, if you need heat, it comes with jalapeño slices. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. Not a lot of interaction, but very friendly. Service with a smile! VALUE: 5. $8.79 for the 2 items. You get waaaaaayyy more than what you pay for. Truly bargain eats up in here! PARKING: Shared with many others. Shouldn't be an issue. OVERALL: 4.75. As mentioned earlier, most people came through for takeout. They do have a following - their doors were swinging open with customers coming through from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. I'm not gonna bother waiting for a T-Mobile perk to come through for a follow up visit. I shall return at first opp! Might check out that fried fish filet. But yeah, it certainly was a satisfying switch-a-roo!

Disgusted to say the least. I've love eating here forever until today. Service is good but unsanitary.

Beef broccoli, orange chicken w fried rice.

Found this place by chance. Ordered the 2 choice combo B. I had the fried rice, beef broccoli and orange chicken. Fried rice was good and didn't need to add soy sauce. Beef broccoli was as it should be, but the orange chicken was good. Flavor was orange chicken, but it was still semi-crunchy even after being drenched in the sauce. Great price at about $10. Filling enough for 2 meals for me. Small area with some seating and they sold boba drinks there but it was powdered flavors.

I would very much not encourage anyone to eat here. Only reason why I am giving it a two star is because the sweet young Asian lady who was so kind helping me. I can't even force myself to finish the food. Nothing tastes good. I've never had Chinese food taste like this.. Even the chili sauce sucks, as well as the teriyaki sauce.. I don't know who's running the kitchen but I would reevaluate your staff... Don't risk it on some of these positive reviews

They greeted me well when I came in no complaints there. Good customer service. But the Food is tasteless and terrible. Panda Express is better and that's not a compliment for panda. Chicken is dry. Rice is dry. Orange chicken is okay. Noodles are very greasy. The veggie egg rolls are extremely greasy. Not coming back and would not recommend this place. Food quality is very low.

Yelp had this place on its list of recos, but there was something about this place that drew me in... ... and it turns out, I have actually been here before. But it has been about 30+yrs since, waaaaayyy before my Yelp years! (SIDE STORY: My GodMom and grandparents used to live a couple of blocks away from here and we often ordered food here back in the day.) They are incredibly popular. All their tables were occupied (granted, there were only three or four) but patrons coming through were non-stop. Staff were efficient as well because given the line (there were three people ahead of me) they got us outta there pretty quickly. I went for half white rice, half noods, black pepper chicken and fried chicken/wings. (NOTE: they packaged the wings separately so it doesn't get soggy from the black pepper sauce - love this!) They were good at providing disposable utensils as well as sauce packets. It didn't take long before I was on my way back to work. Noods had nice flavorful chew. Rice was fluffy. Fried chicken/wings was crispy and savory with a slight hint of sweet. But the black pepper chicken was AM.A.ZING!!! There was so much flavor packed in every bite and couldn't get enough of it! There wasn't a lot of fillers either, so that's a plus. Highly recommending this! FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. VALUE: 5. They give you enough for a second meal. PARKING: Lots of space shared with others. Not an issue. OVERALL: 4.5. I couldn't stop thinking about the black pepper chicken that I just had to come back the next day to have it again. Paired it with orange chicken on that second run. Not as great, but it is one of their more popular items. (Most people ahead of me ordered it and the pan got refilled during both visits.) So it was a delight coming through here again as it brought back tons of memories. I even remember making many stops at the laundromat next door. Also drove by my auntie's old house. Ahhhh, good times! I shall return! If only for the delicious black pepper chicken!

We arrived during lunch hours and discovered they offer lunch specials, which were surprisingly affordable. I have to admit, I'm usually skeptical of very inexpensive lunch specials because, as we say where I'm from, "sometimes cheap ends up being expensive." In other words, I worry that lower prices might mean lower quality. That was absolutely not the case here. The biggest surprise of the meal was the dan dan noodles. Wow. They were absolutely delicious--easily one of the highlights of the meal. Honestly, everything we ordered was very good. The service from our server, Carlos, was great, and another server who was blond and spoke Spanish was even more attentive. Both were very friendly and helpful. We were so hungry when we arrived that we completely missed the "Wait to be Seated" sign and almost walked halfway through the restaurant before realizing our mistake--our apologies for that! The restaurant itself feels cozy and welcoming. I visit this shopping area quite often, and I'm really glad I discovered Northern Cafe because I will definitely be coming back from time to time. If you're looking for a delicious and affordable lunch, I highly recommend trying their lunch specials. The quality of the food far exceeded my expectations, and I don't think you'll regret giving this place a try.

The broccoli caught a stray simply because it wasn't flavorful it came to $22 and it was not worth it. It was not exactly nasty, but ot was not a good fried rice. Definitely would not return. Beef Chow Fun: The seasoning was super flavorful, and the glossy, but non-greasy sautéed thick rice noodles had a perfect texture. The beef pieces were tender, and the portion of bean sprouts was just right without overcrowding the dish. Wonton Soup Noodle: The thin noodles were perfectly al dente. The broth was light but flavorful. The wontons had nice thin wraps, and the fillings were well seasoned and with pleasantly firm consistence. We left the restaurant feeling 110% full and satisfied. We ordered the xiao long bao, broccoli beef, beef rolls, and chicken chow mein. The xiao long bao was excellent with a good amount of soup in each dumpling, and the beef rolls were probably my favorite item, especially dipped in a mix of black vinegar and soy sauce. The broccoli beef had a nice flavor, though I wished it had a little more meat. The chicken chow mein was the weakest dish for me: the noodle texture was great, but the overall flavor didn't stand out as much as I expected. Ordering was easy and the menu was very approachable thanks to the pictures. The restaurant is on the smaller side, which actually made it easier to get a server's attention when needed. Food also came out pretty quickly. The ambiance is straightforward and comfortable -- nothing fancy, just a solid neighborhood restaurant.
