They also offered some unique and tasty items, such as fried zucchini slices. They also had tubs of creamy and yummy ice cream for dessert. We rate the quality of the food that we ate as 4.5/5.0. However, by 7 pm, the restaurant was already winding down and many of the food trays were already near empty and weren't being replenished so there were many food offerings that we didn't get the chance to try. Our rating for variety is thus only 2/5. Service was okay (3/5). The waitress brought us our requested waters, and checked in once to see if everything was okay. The overall ambiance was of a typical Chinese buffet restaurant, and was maintained well. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. However, staff started to wind down the day at 8 pm, including mopping the floors of the main buffet area, the check-out counter, and restrooms while we were still eating and needing to walk in those areas! It was an hour to closing time! Finally, the restaurant was a good value for all-you-can-eat for $12.99/person at dinner, before tax and tip. We would return but probably earlier in the day to have full access to the variety of food choices and to ensure that we didn't interfere with the cleaning at closing.

After around ten minutes of my family finishing their meals and deciding the food wasn't worth the treatment, another waitress comes by and takes my "meal" off the ticket, saying something along the lines of "We didn't want to, but management said to not charge you" I didn't have any food, but besides this experience with the staff my family members said the food wasn't nearly as good as it has been years prior. My dad and my partner are usually ones to get multiple plates, but they both only got one and didn't even finish what they got. My dad said there's no way he'd drive as long as we did to have this again, when in the past we would make the trip SPECIFICALLY for this buffet. Nothing else, just for this place. This was a really disappointing experience, and it very much gave "money hungry" vibes. I'd get charging me if I'd eaten ANYTHING. I didn't have a single bite. I've enjoyed fusion cuisine before and was excited by the concept. While the menu appears to offer some fusion-inspired dishes, the buffet felt more like two separate cuisines sharing the same space--Indian food and Mexican food--rather than true fusion dishes. That said, the food was generally quite good. The Indian selections were the highlight. The lamb vindaloo had a great spice level, a smooth, flavorful gravy, and large, tender boneless pieces of lamb. The chicken tikka was creamy with generous chunks of moist chicken breast. My favorite item may have been the paneer matar, with soft paneer and peas in a rich, creamy tomato sauce. I arrived near the end of the buffet service (11:30 AM-2:30 PM), so some items may have been past their peak. The huevos rancheros were quite dry and chewy. Annneeeway...back to Milan Masala Cantina, the owner, "Mohan" used to be the chef at a little restaurant inside of the World Market in Moline and I used to frequent it because it was the most authentic Indian cuisine I have had in the Quad Cities areas. Well I didn't know he left and opened up his own restaurant here in Milan where I currently reside. I have visited this new restaurant a couple of times not knowing that Mohan was here as owner/chef. Well, today I went and have dinner there because I was craving authentic Indian cuisine and guess who walked out of the kitchen. My man Mohan! It's unique because the small restaurant house both Indian n Mexican cuisine (I'll review the Mexican side at a later date). I have eaten at most if not all of the Indian restaurants in the Quad Cities areas and whenever I frequent food outside of "American" food, I want authenticity! Not water-down! Mohan always delivers for me. Go n give Mohan a try if you like authentic, complex Indian spices in every dish, never water-down! It's a gem in my humble opinion.
