Szechuan Beef Lunch Special

Solid lunch special. Beef and sauce was tasty. Veggies were fresh. First time I have had it in awhile, but they have made improvements.

Chicken w/garlic sauce..... very good, great price!

I love the food. I have been eating at hong kong for years. The buffet is a steal, very cheap and they will make whatever you ask them to.

portion size was ok but when I order a "szechuan" dish I expect it to be spicy, this was just sweet.

Small restaurant off of Pearl at 130th. Average decor but everything was clean. Server was polite…read moreand quick to check on my meal. Nice. I had the empress chicken combination and added wanton soup and fried rice to bump it to $8. Inexpensive. The chicken was cooked well (still juicy) and the sauce was delicious. Really, everything was delicious. My usual order is sweet and sour duck which is great. Hot and sour soup is another favorite. Inexpensive, delicious and quick service. All good

**This review is based on a pick-up order.**…read more I called in this order, and the lady who took the call was quick and polite. Plus, the order was correct, so she was accurate too. Always a good thing. The food, however, was a mixed bag. First, I ordered beef and snow peas (I asked for it to be spicy), and the dish was among the best I've had in a long time. The peas were crunchy; the beef was melty; and the sauce was rich -- and spicy, just as I requested. Because I don't eat a ton, I ordered the upgrade (to fried rice, wonton soup and an egg roll) to share. Meh. The broth was nice, but there really weren't wontons in it. Rather, they were ribbons of way overcooked pasta. Not a deal-breaker, but nothing memorable. The egg roll was the typical freezer-to-fryer variety. Not terrible, but hardly plump and definitely not rolled in-house like the good ol' days. Finally, the fried rice is missing something. Not only do I believe that it was never cooked in a wok, but it also had a scant flavor of sesame oil and little else. I'm not usually one to tell people how to do their business. This time is different though, since I am not the only one to mention the bland 'fried' rice here. Use some soy sauce. Use the wok -- and not the microwave. And perhaps, use an egg and a little garlic. But hey! These guys have been in business for a minute, so we 'fried' rice detractors must be in the minority. All of that to say, this place does an outstanding job with the beef and snow peas. But next time -- if there is a next time (I live in Houston) -- I'll ask for the steamed rice and dress it myself.

Once upon a time, this place would have pulled 5 stars for me. Quick, accessible, and very tasty…read more While it still is all of these things, and I have never had a problem with the food. I've simply found a more convenient restaurant that I prefer (but when I'm west park this is my go to place!) That being said, the staff is amazingly friendly, the food is tasty and filling, and the prices are very reasonable, and the speed they prepare the food is unbeatable. It's definitely the best takeout-only place I've been to China Chef came about a time when I was searching for a really good kung pao chicken, and I kept running into foods that just did not match what I was used to from back in New Jersey. I found their food, especially their kung pao and their chicken and garlic sauce to be very much like I remembered from home so the nostalgia factor was heavy in my heart. Since Covid they have done their very best to maintain a friendly customer relation while keeping themselves safe. Their restrictive facade has become more open again but I don't knowing they will ever return to having a few tables you can sit at to eat. All in all I recommend China Chef for anyone in the area needing their fix!

Overall super disappointed as I spent over $130 on this food and it was so lackluster and flavorless. Depressing honestly. Fried rice (chicken and shrimp) the chicken was bland, looked like boiled chicken, the shrimp were large and plentiful, just bland. Lo mein (beef and shrimp) the beef tasted like it had been soaked in baking soda and very chewy texture. The lo mein was ok. Again plentiful shrimp, but no flavor. Beef and broccoli, the broccoli was fresh and well cooked, but the beef tasted like it was soaked in baking soda. Crab Rangoon, there wasn't any crab that I could find or even crab flavor Teriyaki chicken and beef on a stick, I do not know what this was but it was not teriyaki. No teriyaki flavor, no char or grill marks, and it was the weirdest red color.
