Salmon Dave's Pacific Grill is a new-to-me fish-centric joint in Rocky River, Ohio This is a long overdue review of my visit here all the way back in April of 2025, so please excuse the short review and lack of details on the food. I did make a few notes on the day of, so hopefully those suffice! So about 12 others from my foodie group and I dined at Salmon Dave's for a group lunch in April of 2025. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is cute and decorated like a fish joint off the coast of Florida.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had made reservations beforehand, but it was clear they were still understaffed. It took a bit too long for our food to arrive. I think we waited about 45 minutes for our mains to arrive. We all munched on the free bread while we waited. The bread was okay - standard white crusty bread. The service was also pretty good. Our waters were always kept pretty full but our waitress wasn't much for conversation - just kept things pretty serious. I ordered fried fish for my main (I am pretty picky about how I like fish prepared). My fried fish dinner was massive! I have never seen a fried fish as big as the one I had at Salmon Dave's. It was good too which is why my review is 4 stars instead of 3 or 3.5 stars. The coleslaw is a liquidy mush of nothing - don't bother getting this. In short, I paid about $40 after tax and tip for my fish fry lunch and while it took a while to arrive and I wasn't impressed with the sides, my friends and I had a good time! Nice inside with big bar area. The cedar plank salmon portion was a good size but didn't have much flavor and was fishy tasting. The potatoes were good but the broccoli also didn't have much flavor. The salmon with the citrus & butter sauce was seasoned & tasted good but the portion was smaller. It came with only 3 spears of asparagus & a small amount of mashed potatoes. The bread was good. This place is absolutely one of my favorites! We go here often...I'm a huge fan of the lobster bisque - in my opinion it's the best around! I tried a little bit of the Brussels sprouts which were great, super flavorful and liked the addition of the peanuts, and everyone else enjoyed their meals! Having spent almost 30 years on the East side of Cleveland I finally made it home to the west side. Our college hang out "Tommy's " had turned into Salmon Dave's. Okay, we've all matured. Well this has become my comfort place on the West side. They have a great selection of food. I'm talking stuff you just don't see- jumbalya. But for me it's all about the staff. I truly believe the best, most professional bartender in Greater Cleveland is Tracy. She gets it. She should be in charge of a bartender certification course that all potential bartenders have to pass before they are allowed to pour a single drink. The good service started from the moment we called to place a reservation (which I highly recommend). The whole staff was very friendly, including hostess, server, and people who came to clear the plates. Our server was very attentive and patient when we ask questions about the menu. She recommended entrées and also recommended a few mocktails for those who were doing dry January. All the food came out pretty fast and everything was packed with flavor. There were families celebrating birthdays, couples on dates, and groups of friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told the server that it was my friend's birthday, and she brought out a crème brûlée with a candle. Visiting family who live in Rocky River and we wanted to try someplace we hadn't been yet -- Salmon Dave's it was. Nice if somewhat predictable menu of mostly seafood, a little chicken, and a couple of steaks. Preparations were interesting and, because it's near Mardi Gras, tended towards the creole a little bit. Loved the sourdough bread that came after we ordered. We had a lobster roll (Maine style), a Steak Diane, and a salad + tuna sashimi among the three of us, and all were plenty pleased with our choices. Interesting cocktail menu -- I had the smoky manhattan which actually came with smoke in it! -- and a nice enough list of wines by the glass and bottle. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Intimate room with truly fabulous service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looks to be a nice bar area as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Only challenge is parking -- downtown RR is kind of tight and the lots and immediately juxtaposed street parking were quite full. Been going here for many years but the quality has suffered the last few years. My wife and I ordered blackened walleye, lobster bisque and a Caesar wedge salad. The bisque, salad and bread were all good. The walleye was very fishy and not fresh. Additionally they have no concept of how to make blackened fish. It was totally tasteless, not seasoned and completely disappointing. Until they learn how to make blackened fish properly they should leave it off the menu. read more

Delicious! This place was bustling even at 445pm on a Thursday night! Must be because they have a fantastic happy hour menu (but you have to sit at the bar for that) Everything was cooked fantastic with great flavor! The blue crab cocktail was a delicious dip. The crab flavor was prominent and not overwhelmed by the others things mixed with it. Perfect pair to the cracker. Lobester bisque had a small kick with some chopped pieces of lobster and it was one of the best soups I've had at a restaurant. They have a winter Prix surf and turf for $49 right now ($39 if happy hour time any table) so that's a great deal! Come before this deal goes away! The steak was so juicy and cooked to perfect. The lobster was a tad overcooked for my liking but can't beat it for the price. Salmon was extremely flavorful, not overall "fishy" and flaked right off the fork. Amazing! read more

We ate at Salmon Dave's for our anniversary, and this was our first time visiting the restaurant. We've lived in the area for about a year but waited to visit this place. Now I wish I went sooner. We felt well taken care of. The staff checked up on us consistently without being obtrusive. They were helpful with me making decisions between menu items as it's my first time here. Some particular notes are when we went to order the crab cakes as an appetizer and our server noted that the appetizer only comes with one crab cake, which saved us a lot of confusion and time. Instead we ordered the blue crab cocktail from the raw bar menu and it was some of the best crab I've ever had. Neither my husband or I drink alcohol but didn't see any mocktails on the menu, only soda. We asked if there were any mocktails not on the menu and she listed many options. I had the best non-alcoholic moscow mule I've ever had. My husband loved his lobster roll and as we were raised in New England, we can be picky about lobster. It was cooked really well and well filled. My pan roasted salmon was so moist without being undercooked. The lobster risotto was unbelievable. The complementary creme brulee for our anniversary was just the icing on the cake. They clearly care about the patrons and want them to have a good experience and put pride in their food and establishment. This is a gem. read more

Fantastic experience! My friend and I met here for dinner, and it was first time for us both. Our server was welcoming, and explained the specials to us and was helpful with answering questions. I got the Oysters Rockefeller, a salmon salad, and my friend and I shared a crab cake. Everything tasted fresh and was well seasoned without overdoing it. My salmon was cooked a little more well done than I would have preferred, but I still enjoyed it. The salad portion was very generous. There was a lot of noise coming from the patriots at the bar, enjoying their time it was kind of distracting, but it's a bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The OK the oysters Rockafeller was OK. They tasted like oysters, but there was something off about the seasoning. I couldn't quite place it when I get them again probably not but I tell people when it comes to oysters. It's a taste preference now the good their fish and chips were good could have. They've been great. Yes they did come out a little soggy, but I understand being native from Ireland on getting that oil to the perfect temperature. The fish was flaky and the chips were crisp would I get this again? Each time we dine at Salmon Dave's it just keeps getting better. The service is impeccable, the entrees are fresh, simple and delicious. On this particular night, we opted for well everything! The shrimp cocktail was fresh, jumbo and pairs well with horseradish! The lobster bake was fantastic, hot, huge and simple, so simple it was perfect. We showed up around 9pm on a Fri. Website listed that they closed at midnight. The restaurant was dead We were seated near the only other patrons in the main area of the restaurant. It was at a half wall in the middle of the restaurant. That is where we are always seated when we go there. Behind the wall was a party of about 8-10 people. They seemed happy and having a good time, which was festive. Then, between the chanting, talk about hemorrhoids, frequent swearing (f-words etc), and extremely loud shouting, we could barely hear one another. Servers kept walking by and mouthing "Sorry" but we were never moved, and the other party just kept going. The rest of the place was wide open. We could have been seated in another area or in the bar. It was obvious that the situation was inappropriate and that we were unhappy. When the server commented on how loud they were, we agreed and expressed that it was irritating. A large chain like Hospitality Restaurants should have procedures in place for situations like this. We ended up not getting additional food just so we could get the heck out of there. Our bill was $56. They should have comped our meal imo. When we got our bill the server mentioned again how loud it was. I said that we should never have been sat there, or been moved. I have never once complained to a server or mgr about noise etc, even though I sound like a whiner in this review. Never. Of course the manage would never have told the offenders to be considerate of other patrons. What a joke We got a fried chicken sandwich. It was not fried, and seemed baked. It was tender but the breading was wet and pasty and sort of gross. The bun, slaw and sauce on it were good. So were the accompanying chips. Calamari was great as usual and so was the salad. The server slipped us a tiny piece of pie. Yes, we tipped her 20% anyway The bar and restaurant are very nice. read more

I normally praise people when I deem it is well deserved. I've written good reviews for places like Auto Zone, Giant Eagle etc. when an employee gives (what is a dying breed nowadays) excellent customer service. In fact I wrote a rave review about Salmon Dave's when Mac (former bartender) was still there, before he left for the "Keys." Since then I go in periodically trying to give it another chance here and then. Tonight I went in for Happy Hour, asked the bartender (Tracy) do you have Sauvignon Blanc on Happy Hour. She said "yes." I ordered a glass, a shrimp cocktail, and the crab dip with kettle chips. When I got my bill, I was shocked. Instead of my "happy hour" wine being $5 a glass it was $9 per glass & I had two glasses (which I thought would total $10 not $18). I questioned it and paid the bill. I've been in the industry for close to 50 years now, and have worked every aspect of the industry, FOH, BOH, catering, hotels, taverns, fine dining, was a Chef in San Diego, & managed a few clubs, you name it. I even remember George when he had "By George's" in Fairview Park & I worked across the street at the time for T.A.G.S. If a guest asks a question, don't be misleading & omit the "fine print" ~ you now the gig, be up front & let the guest decide. Call me "old school" but what happened to "ethics" and good old-fashioned customer service, where the customer was treated like a "guest in your home?" I'm afraid those days are gone. read more

Had a great experience tonight for my first visit to Salmon Dave's. Mia and Tracey provided excellent service and were extremely knowledgeable. The surf & turf special is unbeatable at $49.99 ($39.99 during happy hour!!). It comes with two courses, I chose the lobster bisque which was to die for. Perfect martinis and even got dessert! We've been coming to this place for many years however our most recent dining experience to celebrate my wife's birthday was more than disappointing. The service was horrible, we were served by an not-so-kind older gentleman who absolutely had no business serving people and a manager who either doesn't care or isn't adequately empowered to care. Today was a good bad day... I enjoyed a piping hot cup of creamy, lobster laced bisque. Then Mommy and I split 4 crispy, crunchy fried green tomatoes, topped with sliced andouille sausage resting on a schmere of spicy Cajun cream. I, Caucasian, and two dear friends, black, came for happy hour. Morgan, our server was amazing as was the food! Best lobster bisque around! The manager, Amanda, repeatedly checked on guests in the bar area both at the tables and at the bar but never one came by our table. As she was walking away, for the 3rd time I said "yeah, we're good", she turned around, laughed and kept walking away. 4 stars on the food! 5 stars for the bartenders! But only 3 stars for hostess and servers. I've been there dozens of times (bc the food is excellent), but the people who greet when you walk in aren't overly friendly and servers are generally rushed and can be rude. Their business is hospitality so you'd think you'd be welcomed with smiles and kindness. But my experience has been that their servers are brusque and no-nonsense. Who knows, maybe they're overworked / understaffed. If you can let this roll off your back then you'll enjoy your experience. (Or just eat at the bar when during slower times.)
