Shrimp egg foo young

I ordered shrimp egg foo young lunch special. The wonton soup was fantastic, salt level was perfect! The egg foo young was delicious as well. Crab rangoon was really good as well. Must try! Service was great also!

I've been getting take out from here for several years. It is hit or miss. Today, with my Kung Pao Chicken it was a miss. The chicken was a bit tough. The normal Kung Pao spices were absent. It tasted more like a generic wok fried dish. Service was great, fast and efficient. It is an average neighborhood take out option in an area with limited options. What do you think?

Are those feathers??? Lol
Mariah M.

Well.... What do I have to say about this one. I have never had chicken with feathers. I suppose this is the freshest chicken in DC? Killed and partial defeathered in the back of house? With that being said, the chicken up to the discovery of this piece was, dare I say, good? Lol. Eat at your own risk and hopefully you won't end up with chicken feathers. One of the reasons we picked this place was because it says they had Mumbo sauce but I'm not sure that's what we got. It looked and tasted like sweet and sour. Bright red in color. A little disappointed. Lastly, the fried rice was plain and meh, and the orange chicken had so much orange peel it was overwhelming. Side note: I ordered through UberEats so I didn't have a chance to ask clarify questions regarding Mumbo sauce so it is what it is. I'll try another Carryout before this trip is over.

While chefs and restaurateurs despise Yelp, if there's one place no one can argue is reviewing carryout. It's the food of people and no matter how refined palate, your cravings cave you into going at least once a year. It's the type of food that unites people. That said, the average person could and should review carryout spots. If you browse Yelp, you'll notice most carryout places have fewer than 3 stars and many first hand accounts of food poisoning. So, when you stumble upon a 4-star carryout, you MUST go. That's how I came across Hong Kong Carryout. I used to live around the corner and it never ever caught my eye until Yelp pointed me there. After having dinner there, I see why it's rated so highly. It delivers you an experience, which us millennials love. It's a tiny house next to a bodega in Hill East off of the popular East Capitol Street. Despite the outside looking dirty, the inside is surprisingly bare and clean. There is a random picture of a city skyline inside and then the takeout window with a friendly guy behind it. Order a special or any item off their extensive menu and watch the older men make it through the window. There's a bench to sit on while you wait for your food. My friend ordered the chicken and broccoli per the cashier's recommendation, but the flavor fell flat. What did NOT disappoint was the sesame chicken. It's perfectly cooked and is full of flavor. Bot dishes came with rice and the large was more than enough for dinner AND lunch the next day- both just over $11. They have a fridge full of unhealthy drinks and the only water they have is bottled water you have to pay for (isn't that illegal to refuse free water to a customer?). Note: It's cash only, but there's an ATM just outside. It's been a full 36 hours and neither my friend and I are sick. That's winning in the carryout world.

The ambiance bright and cheerful -- an upscale seafood place complete with an upscale, creative nautical theme. The food was great and came out fairly quickly, though we didn't feel rushed. With all the hype, we had to try the Maryland crab "crumpet," a tiny (maybe the size of a silver dollar ‍), toasty, round cranny-toast that had a decent amount of crab on top, though at $9 *each*, we couldn't decide if it was worth it. The crab was spiced nicely, though. One of our fave dishes was recommended by the server -- the tilefish kinilaw, a ceviche-adjacent blend of chopped light white fish, red onion, cucumber, mango (I think), & chives blended in coconut broth. YUM! It was served in a dish with lettuce cups, an interesting vessel for the fish-yumminess. We also shared a beet & berry salad with crunchy, candied pecans with a yogurt dressing. Yum! The entree (we shared) was surprisingly really good - another rec from our server -- the Massaman fish curry with fresh herbs & house-made, grilled roti, an interesting naan-like bread that proved great vessel for scooping up the decadent curry gravy. YUM! We also shared a Caesar salad with garlic croutons. It was good; nothing terribly special, but good. Really great meal. Great service. Great ambiance. We'll definitely be back. There's a really nice patio dining area facing the marina. We'd like to try that when the weather isn't so ghastly hot.

The shrimp hush puppies were just hush puppies; it was not worth the price. The Hawaiian poke looked beautiful, but was just okay. We ordered the lamb chops and curry. It took an HOUR for us to get our food. When it came my lamb chops definitely did not look like they were worth $60; they were extremely small and did not have a lot of meat on them. My best friend said her curry was fine, but it was nothing special. Our waiter was nice, but we often found ourselves trying to look for him and waiting for him to return to our table. The manager originally told us we could have our drinks free (a Shirley temple and a virgin mojito). We had to advocate for ourselves and ask for at least an appetizer off because we had waited an hour for our food. Overall, this place is nice for aesthetics but not for food quality and quantity. My best friend also asked for her food to be boxed and never received the boxed food. We waited so long to get our servers attention throughout the night, so we decided to just leave without the boxed food.

Unfortunately, the entrees didn't live up to the rest of the experience. The crab pasta was very bland and lacked flavor. The biggest disappointment, though, was the North Shore roast beef. As someone familiar with a true North Shore roast beef, this wasn't even close--it resembled an Arby's roast beef sandwich more than the classic, thinly sliced, rare roast beef piled high on an onion roll. I'd definitely come back for the oysters and drinks, but I'd skip those two entrees.

Our waitress read the room immediately. With a very hungry pregnant lady at the table she prioritized the Parker house rolls without being asked. This kind of attention to detail sets the tone. We later learned she was a fellow Cancer with a birthday coming up. Cancer energy is real!!! The food and drinks did not disappoint. Asparagus, calamari, shrimp cocktail, coal roasted oysters, chicken chermoula, and lump crab gratin. Worth every penny. One tip worth sharing, ask for a bit of sea salt for the chicken. The first taste lacked it and that small addition made all the difference. We were five deep which honestly matched the energy of most tables around us. The space was bright and airy and the round tables made for great socializing, easy sharing, and yes some excellent boomerang pics. Checkout was seamless. Splitting the check evenly with tap to pay right at the table got us out quickly and on to the next stop. Puddin is a crowd favorite so we left room to run over there even though the dessert menu at Cordelia looked amazing. For the entrees, everyone had a mix of favorites and dishes they liked less. The biggest highlights were the Steak and Eggs and the Crab Benedict. Both were tasty, although the portions were just okay. On the other hand, the Shrimp and Grits were a bit of a letdown. While the dish tasted good, the portion was surprisingly small and did not feel like a full entrée. We left feeling unsatisfied from a meal standpoint, so unfortunately, I would not recommend that dish. Overall, we will absolutely be coming back to try their dinner menu soon!

The organizer had booked the brunch about a week in advance and had coordinated with the restaurant to pay a large group deposit. The reservation was for 1:30 PM, but our table was not ready until 2 PM. When we were finally seated, the table was only set for 20 people. We were in the upstairs room with another large group, so there was no space to really add two more chairs to our table. We had to crowd into the table to accommodate the last two people. Even though the brunch is bottomless with a menu to choose from, the servers decided to just bring random items from the brunch menu to the table. Honestly, some of the worst food I have ever seen. The vegetable vitamin salad looked like slop, as did the rice/salad dish, which I'm not even sure what it was called. We were also brought a trio of three dips as well as pita and cornbread. The dips were very bland, the cornbread was dry and flavorless. As I did not like any of the items that the servers selected, I begin requesting other salads/appetizers off of the menu. I requested the Greek/Mediterranean salad and the pickles, both were very underwhelming. As far as the brunch foods, the menu was literally all over the place. Even though this is a Balkan-inspired restaurant, there were items such as fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and shrimp and grits on the menu, which don't actually make sense in light of what Balkan cuisine is. The best thing I ate was grilled steak, which was on a platter with eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes. There were two Belgian dessert waffles as well which were underwhelming. The only decent thing about the entire experience is that our servers kept the mimosas flowing. Each person in our party paid $75 inclusive of tax and tip-- 100% NOT worth it.

I started off with the Mimosa Sampler for my drink order; I wanted to try the different flavours that were on offer. These were nice, but I'd hoped the presentation would have been a little better and the mimosas not as heavy with the juices. The food was great! Super tasty and packed with flavour. The chips were sturdy enough to scoop up the thick dip without breaking, making it an appetizer that was easy to keep reaching for. The raw oysters were the star of the meal. They were served beautifully over ice with fresh lemon and a variety of sauces. The oysters tasted incredibly fresh clean, briny, and buttery with no fishy aftertaste. Each one had its own subtle flavor, and the accompaniments enhanced them without overpowering their natural taste. At happy hour pricing, they were an outstanding value and definitely something I'd order again. To drink, I had a margarita, which was refreshing and well-balanced. It wasn't overly sweet, allowing the citrus and tequila flavors to shine through.
