The sketchy appearance would be fine if the food was good, but the cover is actually a good judge of the book in this case. Not only is the food just barely edible (even by DC standards this is BAD Chinese), but I had almost immediate diarrhea. Food isn't supposed to instantly pass through your person like that. This was my first time at this restaurant/carry out. I ordered something simple. I got orange chicken and shrimp fried rice, but I usually get at my favorite Chinese restaurant in Crystal City. This is why I do not like cash only places. My food is bland, tasteless, and just nasty. I would rather drive to another state (from D.C. To Crystal City) to get good food, than 5 minutes away for bad food. P.S. Did I mention they do not wear gloves or hairnet in the back while preparing your food? Gross! read more

The food does look good but not much taste. Couldn't finish the vege spring roll - inedible. General Tso and sweet and sour sauces were really tasteless. Note: cash only and delivery/carry out only. This place is my jam. They deliver in bad weather and are walking distance in nice weather. The prices are more than reasonable and are unheard of in DC when you factor in just how much food they cram into each takeout container. These things are so tight, you could bounce a quarter off of them. I am usually not the biggest fan of Chinese food because so much of it lacks flavor or is super saucy/sticky/sweet but Hong Kong does a great job of packing in fresh veggies to make it healthy and keeping the sweet level to a minimum. They also are usually pretty good about making it spicy if requested. We've ordered here numerous times and it's now to the point that we don't remember if we've ordered certain dishes! Guess we ought to start writing it down. Two of my favorites are the Singapore noodles (with shrimp and pork, comes a bit spicy) and the moo shu pork. The flavor is great and when you run out of the five wraps, you can mix it with the noodles for some extra yums. We typically order three items for a grand total of ~$35 and have enough food for the two of us to have dinner and at least four lunch portions. This is seriously one of the best cheap eats places we've found in DC when you factor in portion sizes. A real gem to have in the neighborhood. read more

This place has momentarily redeemed my hope in cheap DMV Chinese hole-in-the-wall takeout options. Chicken broccoli with garlic sauce, my Americanized Chinese staple meal, is quite good here. So much so that I felt for awhile like I was back home enjoying it in NJ/NY. A very rare sentiment given my frequent bad experiences at local such places thus far. Food was not swimming in grease nor were the veggies anything but fresh tasting. The meat was acceptable in the context of other comparatively cheap takeout. I wasn't grossed out and that's saying a lot. I'd say if you can overcome the feeling that your life might be threatened, and not from the digestive aftermath of consuming copious quantities of mystery grease and meat (which wasn't the case), but because of the bulletproof glass through which you conduct your pickup transaction, along with the barren, eerie surroundings (especially on a cold wintery night), you'll be in for a very cheap yet delicious and satisfying meal. read more

Oh how excited was I to see positive reviews for Chinese delivery on Capitol Hill? Very. Oh how disappointed was I when I bit into the Kung Pao chicken? UNBELIEVABLY. The chicken was slimy, had no flavor, and was laden with all sorts of soggy veggies. Dry roasted peanuts were sprinkled on top as an afterthought. Don't make the same mistake - avoid at all costs. Additional notes: Delivery took an hour. Shrimp spring rolls were so so. BBQ spare ribs were all cut up, but not terrible. A bucket of crazy sweet tea was included for free. read more

Hong Kong Carryout is a D.C. jewel and a must visit if you are in the area and in the mood for Chinese food (carryout style). Since I don't live in the area when I'm in DC I always order from Hong Kong and they rarely disappoint. Made a simple order this past weekend, vegetable fried rice, mixed veggies with brown sauce and chicken noodle soup (didn't smell or look to good). However, the vegetable fried rice was so good! Fresh rice with even fresher veggies perfect for vegetarians or vegans. Good food! Sadly they do not accept credit cards or debit cards .. cash only. (kinda old school) read more

This little establishment is the jewel in DC. Quick to prepare and the food was OK for my UK taste buds. They offer a variety of different food types from Burgers, Subs (hot & cold) and of course the delicious Chinese food. Chicken and beef fried rice are good. The chicken is very velvety and didn't look cooked enough, but it tasted fine and I didn't get sick haha. No complaints. Last night was my first trying this place. We ordered shrimp fried rice fried chicken wings and. Sesame chicken. I ordered via phone for Carryout. First let me say, I'm always very skeptical of Chinese restaurants. I don't mean to be rude or culturally insensitive, but BECAUSE of FB and all those rat and dog videos I'm paranoid. I KNOW moat Chinese food restaurants wouldn't serve stuff like that but....what can I say social media is the devil. And the young Chinese dudes behind the counter were super accommodating, pleasant and move quick. U can tell the food was fresh and cooked to order. #nooldrice! So I'll be back. DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT give this "restaurant" your business. Never in my life have I been verbally abused, berated, and condescended as I have by the woman who owns this place. Prior to today, every time I visited my sister in D.C. she would take me here. She loved this place, and I am only writing my review due to this lady's reasoning for VERBALLY ASSAULTING ME being to prevent this from coming out. Seeing as how the food was okay the first time, I decided to order again. When I opened my order of General Tso's chicken, I was horrified to discover a LIVE BUG in my chicken. It was a small winged beetle of some sort, and as soon as we found it, we called the place to let them know we would be returning everything (including the unopened sodas) in their uneaten and untouched conditions. When we walked over, my sister went in and handed the lady our food, which she takes to the back at first (I am assuming she did this to get rid of the bug) and then comes back out and demands I show her the bug. I was like "what? How would I even know where the bug was??" She then proceeds to pick out individual pieces of chicken, and then once she couldn't find it, make me pick out every piece of chicken to find the bug. As I have no idea where it went, and no reason to return uneaten food, I tell her that I'm not going to continue looking through the food to find it. She then accuses us of lying, and demands we apologize to her chef for lying about finding a bug in my food. Lady are you okay? Why would I walk over and return food and drinks I haven't even eaten? After continuously saying we were lying and needed to apologize (at this point she's shouting at us, calling us liars to the point where people on the street were stopped to see what was going on, saying we came here to review it or something, and then saying she doesn't care if we leave a review or about our business), she goes back behind the counter. At this point we were just continuing to request a refund and saying we were not going to stand here and be screamed at, she finally concedes, then gives us the refund. I assuming this was only done to make us leave. Mind you, there were two other employees in this shop who did NOTHING to stop her from screaming and berating us for lying, and she continued yelling as we walked away. I don't even care we got the refund. I'm disgusted that this lady saw it fit to scream at us, insult us, and treat us a subhuman beings, because we wanted a refund for the bug that was found in my food. Deplorable behavior. In hindsight, I should've taken a picture of the bug but when I saw it crawling, I immediately spit out the piece I had just put in my mouth and closed the top (this was done so they would see the bug when we returned it). read more

I live right by here and frequent this place when I have a craving. This is one of the best, if not the best, Chinese place I've found in DC. They're open late, which is very helpful for my post-kickball drinking cravings. Definitely looks pretty sketch, but don't be put off by the decor/lack thereof. The food is amazing! I've had the egg rolls, beef lo mein, wonton soup, pork mushu, and General Tso's chicken. Everything was up to par, and incredibly cheap!
