This place is like a local hangout. I was sitting there and the owner/manager basically knew everyone that came in. What was Impressive was she recalled their favorite dish's. So if people are returning, that means to me it's good. The restaurant is small but decorated nicely and clean. I enjoyed speaking with the owner, she is a very friendly person. This is one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants. They do a lot of take out but they also have dine in. The menu has a ton of options and a menu with combos for lunch and dinner. I love their wonton soup, it's amazing. They also have a special wonton soup for two. I love it. The egg rolls are homemade, not what anyone can buy at a super store. They are also one of the only places that you can get fried wonton with meat inside. My favorite. One of my ultimate dishes from here is the egg foo young. I'm from a different state and they make it just like I remember as a child. The staff is super friendly and truly fun to talk to and make it a fun experience. I have been going here since moving to Katy 18 years ago. You will be so happy you gave them a try. read more

We were planning to go to the Vietnamese part of Bellaire, but I really had the worst shirt displaying the flag of Vietnam, so I was politely told to eat in Katy and not get out of the car! Seriously! Therefore, since we were on S Mason, we saw Hong Kong's, so went went there. We had the lunch menu, so it's hard to be too judgmental. It was alright, and I really don't remember all we ordered from the lunch menu. I was a very clean restaurant, but the waitress seemed to be like a sergeant, giving out orders. Best chicken fried rice in Katy, there prob will be ppl that say otherwise but to my kids they make the best chicken fried rice no veggies... My fav is the Shrimp in lobster sauce w large shrimps not the small ones most places push, Family run which makes it even more of a special place for my family. 11/10. I genuinely have loved this place for 15 yrs now, and hope that Hong Kong Cafe continues to prosper, so that it can be my go to for Chinese food for a lifetime. The veggie lomein is so good, and the spring rolls are to die for. I always order an extra portion of veggie lomein and rice to be able to freeze at home for later, and it still tastes good when I reheat it. Usually I do takeout, but the restaurant is lovely and the staff is awesome. You won't find better service or ambience anywhere in Katy, and this place is a true gem. read more

I am an occasional carry-out customer and am usually quite satisfied with their food. The service is great; the young lady at the counter always recognizes me and takes time for a friendly chat whenever I come in. This time though, my usual order of egg foo young was so oily as to be nearly inedible. I can usually get 3 meals out of one order, (an important consideration to a bachelor), but this time, I had to toss most of it. But... -1 star for dumplings that, while perfectly fried on the outside, were so thick that you had to peel some of the wrapper off as it wasn't fully cooked through. -1 star for overcooked, lumpy, flavorless fried rice. -1 star for inedible egg rolls; they dripped grease & oil. Whole lot of food for a cheap price !!!! Just moved out to Katy recently and was in the mood for Chinese . I'm sure happy I strolled across this place. The egg drop soup was heavenly . They only have two size servings in soups medium and large . Medium goes for $2.25 and large goes for $4.50 . When you check in they have an offer of free crab puffs !!! That's always a win. Serving where big no complaints . Hot and fresh . My date had the chicken and broccoli . She asked for us spicy and they sure put a kick in it . She was sweating lol . But delicious. Costumer service is friendly squared. I am a sucker for an establishment that makes you feel as though your business is wanted. They were very patient with my menu browsing and suggested many things for me to possibly buy. They also were very forthright about what menu items were the most popular. The person at the counter did not know about the yelp special to whereas you can spend $5 for $10 worth of food, but they did not give me an ounce of grief on my redemption. The pricing is pretty fair, so the yelp deal made the purchase that much sweeter. Once I did select my food items, they gave me a timeline to wait for the food and ensured me that all their food items were fresh, and they never sale frozen meat or prepare their food with such. They were fulfilling another order and asked if I would like to try a sample while I waited for my food...umm...4th star just was earned people! The hostesses turned her attention to a couple that walked through the doors and immediately called them by name and asked if they wanted their regular order. Good thing about that is you know they have repeat business, and they make sure to personalize their service. You are more than just another wallet walking through their doors. I think because I am silly, this scenario amused me a lot. I asked to view the restrooms while I waited, and found they placed a urinal a mere 4 feet in front of the toilet in the restroom! You better have a real good relationship with the person you share those facilities if you have to do a number one while they have to do a number two, or vice versa! Nothing says "I trust you a lot" like experience a dump of someone in close quarters! I didn't go too exotic with my order, so I had fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and the house special fried rice. The house special fried rice is pretty much all the basic meats inside the rice. As an omnivore with carnivore inclinations, this rice pleases me. All in all, this is decent tasting food. The ingredients are obviously fresh, and they took their time fixing the food. This is your normal Houston based Chinese food, but think about it tastings a lot fresher than normal. This is a place worth trying. They even offer smoothies and have lunch specials. Take a look at the website and you can see they also offer two delivery specials as well. All in all, a good place to get decent tasting food and decent pricing, but great service. Me and my girlfriend were hungry and this place was just down the road. As a person who enjoys authentic Chinese to a possibly unhealthy extreme. I can honestly say this is not authentic one bit. This is typical American- Chinese, that is under seasoned and way too greasy. I got a pretty wide spread of the menu of basic staples of typical Americanized Chinese and was disappointed. I ordered pork dumplings, crab Rangoon, spring rolls, chicken lo mein, and sweet and sour chicken. Now let's talk about the food. Pork dumplings: Extremely doughy, no flavor and no amount of soy sauce could fix the taste. Crab Rangoon: Average and probably same quality and taste as the frozen ones Panda Express uses. Spring rolls: I can say they were just meh. Sweet and sour chicken: the box I got my to-go order in had more shrimp than chicken Lo Mein: super greasy, bland and again meh. We ate lunch on a weekend, and it wasn't crowded at all, I think they had just opened for the day. I ordered their pepper steak and rice, with white rice, wonton soup, and an egg roll. Lunch special. It was good, can't say it was the best Chinese I have eaten but it was hot, fresh and hit the spot which is about what we had hoped for and what we got. We had not been here for a few years since we moved out the neighborhood. Went for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The chicken and eggplant was just the right amount of spicy with a good sauce. The fried rice had good flavor and we got the option to hold the vegetables, my son ordered that and was thrilled he did not have to eat peas or carrots. Lo-mein had good flavor and overall the food was not over salted. Portions were big and the owner came over and talked to is for a few minutes. Overall a great dining experience. This has to be my favorite Chinese restaurant that is close to home. When you order take-out food there the service over the phone and in person is friendly. When you go to pick it up it is waiting for you; HOT, Fresh, and fast service. When you deliver it takes a little longer, but I'm sure the overall time of driving to the restaurant, picking up your food, and driving back home isn't any different that having them deliver; fast service and a nice and friendly delivery driver. Due to the accent it can be hard to understand at times over the phone, but you work through it. You get PLENTY of food for the price. The larger fried egg rolls I think are the same ones that I buy at Sam's... so if you want to save on cost go by the egg rolls at Sam's. Although, the free egg rolls on delivery orders I think they make in house... but I'm not sure (still very good). ALL AND ALL, this is a nice restaurant.
