Honolulu Beerworks [HB]. (3.5 stars). "Baby you're a firework. Come on let your colors burst. Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!" You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down down down." - Katy Perry HB is located on Cooke Street across the street from Pacific Home. The one noticeable drawback to this place is the parking... or lack thereof!!! I think HB would have much more foot traffic if they had a parking area for their customers!! If you can't find street parking, you might as well assume you're going to park at SALT @Kaka'ako and pay their parking fees. HB is a dog-friendly local brew pub that features a dozen or so beers on tap. The tap choices vary from week to week. The beer was tasty but I guess I am not terribly picky when it comes to beers. I just prefer Stouts, Porters, and IPAs. I ordered the following: -Chili "Beer Mac and Cheese" Chili "Beer Mac and Cheese" - $11. (3.5 stars). One of the items that HB is getting the "buzz around town" for is their Beermade Mac and Cheese. This dish comes in a aluminum pie pan and is heavy!! The Mac and Cheese is on the dense side. The night that the BF and I came to HB (for a UYE), Chili "Beer Mac and Cheese" was the special. We decided to order it and share with our fellow Yelpers around us. As I took my first bite, I could feel my gut being weighed down. (It literally made me want to fall down from being in a food coma.) The chili was interesting but had a bit too much chili powder for my liking. If I come back, I would stick to the original Beermade Mac and Cheese. Pale Ale cheese was lost in the sea of chili and pepper jack cheese... but the Macaroni was still in tact and not soggy which was a good thing!! The panko definitely helped give this dish a textural upgrade!! Otherwise it would just be like biting into a soft cheese wheel... For the price, the portion was on point. =================================== Service was friendly. Although it seemed like the manager was a bit frazzled by the amount of doggies that were in the house!! I can understand as there were quite a few dogs but they were all so well trained and sweet!! Doggies are allowed at HB but they must stay in the far left front corner of the establishment. HB does have water bowls for your dog to use. I would suggest bringing your own water bowl for your dog but hey, sometimes people forget and at least HB is nice enough to offer this "service". If I was in the neighborhood and there was parking available, I could see myself stopping by for a cold beer on tap... WARNING: There are signs posted all along the entrance to HB that WARN you not to park in Pacific Home's parking lot!! They are serious about that. Honolulu Beerworks is a great place to meet with coworkers after a day at the office or take friends from out of town for a semi-unique microbrewery experience. I say semi because microbreweries have blown up across the US...but of course, this one has beers that are unique and typical to Hawaii. The bartenders are very friendly and accommodating and good at explaining any of the beers you would like to sample. I recommend getting a flight because you get to choose 6 different beers and it really gives you a feel for what they have. They also have two ciders on the menu. The pear cider is delicious! I can't really speak to the food because I have only had the beer and maybe fries. They do have a few things on their menu that complement beer tasting and conversation with friends. Parking can be a challenge. If you go on a weeknight it is not as bad. I'd recommend trying to find street parking somewhere close. read more

But seriously, if anything, I would go back just to eat this cheesy deliciousness. They also have a special beermade mac & cheese, but the original is so dang good, it will be hard for me to venture off and try their special. Finally got to visit this place after seeing my boyfriend continuously purchase their beer lol. I thought I was going home but we ended up here after going to another brewery on the day of a beer festival... it was a day full of beers. Please be advised that you cannot park across the street at the furniture place's parking lot! We thought it would be okay because they were closed but we parked there and when we got to Honolulu Beerworks's entrance, they had a sign saying not to park there. It was a really nice space. To the right of the bar, by the wall, are a bunch of games you can borrow and play with during your stay. In front of the bar is a breathalyzer! How neat is that??? This place is pretty cool to have their own brewers and serve some interesting local beers. Open seating can suck especially when it is busy and no parking totally sucks. But I guess not many people drive here because they get drunk and can't drive back. There are meter on streets around the corners. They have a variety of sizes for beers starting from 4oz samplers to 64oz, which is pretty cool. The food menu was limited but they were actually pretty good. When I first wrote my review, it was when they first opened. I was also a young grasshopper and didn't know ANYTHING about craft beer yet. I can safely say that Beerworks is one of the reasons I love craft beer and work for a brewery right now. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. They still had really awesome swag and the best part about this brewery is that the beer is consistently good since they have opened. If you are someone who wants to expand their pallet and learn more about craft beers this is your place. They have beers here that are great stepping stones to start drinking better and more complex beers. This is also a really great place to grab a quick lunch during the week. The only crappy thing about this place is parking. But seriously, where is parking good in Hawaii? read more

We went to the Honolulu Beerworks during the adjacent Italian festival. The had a special where you could get a hoagie and beer for $10. Excellent deal, and the hoagie was superb! It exceeded all expectations. But the next table over had two toddlers, one of which screamed in a loud, shrill voice and they both were allowed to run around us and our table. The restaurant did nothing about it, and it lessened our enjoyment of the evening. I really don't think that a bar/restaurant such as this is an appropriate place for children (as legal as it may be), but I blame the parents for raising such undisciplined kids and for bringing them there. read more

Came here last night on a whim because my husband was checking out a gym nearby. They have a very relaxed atmosphere. I love it. There is outside patio seating as well, but we sat at the bar. I started with 5 tasters $2 for a 4 oz taste. South shore stout, Pia mahi'ai honey citrus saison, sheltered bay IPA, Cocoweizen, and Hop Island IPA are what I tasted and then I got a pint of the Hop island. They were all very good. My husband got two pints of one of the ciders (which come from a can or bottle-no draft $8). We also got food- started with the soft pretzels which were awesome! They came w a side of cheese sauce and mustard seeds- really worth it! Husband ordered the Reuben sandwich and I got the cranberry, candies but salad with bleu cheese and balsamic vinaigrette. All of it was delicious. No complaints at all. It is a little expensive, but totally worth it. Our bill was $71.00 so even with tip it was less than $100 for a nice, fun date night. We will definitely go back. My husband's only complaint is they don't have cider in draft lol read more

Hop on over to Honolulu Beerworks for a beer-y extensive collection to choose from. Most people come for the beer, but the food is really great as well! My sister and I shared the ahi dip as well as the ham and peas mac and cheese. The ahi dip was creamy and thick. It's got a smooth consistency and you can tell its thoroughly mixed through because there aren't any lumps or chunks. It spreads so well on the bread that it comes with. Smooth like buttah. The bread is suuuuper crispy so it pairs nicely with the dip. The ham and peas mac and cheese was the special that day. It tasted like childhood. Definitely a nostalgic choice. The panko crust topping was crunchy, and the sauce was cheesy good. The little pops of bites from the diced ham and peas were a good match for the mac and cheese. I guess we have a thing for trying specials because we ordered the holiday beer special: the peppermint pole. It consists of beer, kahlua, peppermint, cream, and then topped with green and red sprinkles! So cute. It was like drinking dessert! Super potent, sweet, and delicious. Kind of on a thicker side for a drink as well. The servers are extremely friendly and attentive. We ordered the hoagie which didn't come out for quite some time. I honestly didn't notice until our server asked if it came. The kitchen was having issues with the printer and didn't print the order even though it was put in. She apologized and asked me if I still wanted it. We were full off of the dip and mac and cheese, so she took the hoagie off our bill. Great customer service! Eh I feel bad for the owners that have to comply with some silly regulations. I am all for covid-19 precautions but almost had a panic attack here because the rule is you have to have your mask on unless literally taking a drink. Got reprimanded several times for forgetting. I'm not really sure if this is the letter of the law or if this is their interpretation. I've been to several other restaurants and breweries since the re-opening and none of them followed this level of masking. I thought the rule was when seated you could demask. We ordered the roast beef dip, Mac and cheese with pepperoni (special), ahi dip, and sweet potato hummus. Did not think the roast beef dip was as good as it could have been, too much bread to meat ratio and not enough dip. the Mac and cheese was really good though. Not impressed. My friends and I decided to come here because we saw it had great reviews on yelp and my friends like beer and wanted to support a local brewery. There are also plenty of food pics on yelp, and I was planning on trying a few bites. Unfortunately, which later turned out be fortunate, we decided to go on a night market night. Parking was tough and beerworks was packed to the max. Beerworks doesn't have a private lot, so you're left to your own devices to find street parking. Upon entering the establishment we had to push ourself past the throngs of people and random decorative barrel "tables" to the outdoor seating area on the left. Luckily there was one table open all the way in the back. A piece of loud machinery (I'm thinking the air conditioning vent) would turn on every now and then and make it harder to have a conversation. Then it started raining, so we had to join the crowds of people inside. The waiter was very casual; he sat down with us to answer questions, explain the 8 beers they had and take our order. Maybe it was a gesture of friendliness or maybe he was tired and needed to sit down to rest. Regardless, small kind strange. After hearing that we heard about them on yelp, he kinda dissed yelp by saying he is always does appointed in places that have good reviews. Setting yourself up for failure then, buddy? There were 4 elite yelpers at our table, but he didn't know that and were not pretentious enough to advertise it. The worst (and possibly best) part of the night? They stop serving food like 2 hours before they close and they close pretty early (11pm). WTF am I supposed to eat when I'm drinking?! I ended up walking across the street to the night market to have some glorious garlic yakisoba. Of course, to make the situation even better, I wasn't allowed to bring the food back into beerworks, so I awkwardly had to eat outside. So annoying. Come if you like supporting local breweries and like tasting different beers. Parking, however is a little tricky. They have no designated parking structure so it's only metered street parking (if you can find any). Nice little joint in Kakaako on Cooke street! I've been hearing all kinds of great chitty chatter about this place and just had to try it! I went on a Friday night with a small group of friends to relax and unwind. I arrived around 630PM and man was it crowded! Pau Hana time was definitely in full swing. Parking is metered and can be found around fisher and nearby blocks. They have a variety of beers listed on the blackboard above the bar. That night they had about 8 speciality beers ranging from ales to stouts. Pricing goes for about $6.75 for a pint of beer. You also can get a sampler (they give you an option of 4 to 6 ounces) for about $2 each. They provide a list for you to choose up to 5 samples. If you're looking for something other than a green bottle and something that's crafted locally, this definitely should be on your list. The flavors were complex, smooth and had a great balance of hops; roasts. The cilantro beer was one of the most interesting ones I tried that night. I believe it was an ale with a a refreshing front, and smooth end. Overall, brewed extremely well. There were about 8 different food items in which they infused some beer into to give it that great bite. We had ordered a round of pretzels with cheese, beer dip & mustard. Pretzels were a bit on the salty side but deliciously soft. Other items we tried was the Kalua pork tacos, smoked ahi dip served with toasted baguette, and their Mac and cheese. Both items were tasty but the tacos only come in twos. The ahi dip on the other hand was smoked perfectly and was definitely NOM worthy! Their Mac and cheese is perfectly balanced with the beer mixed in with the cheese! GAH, it'll be your best friend when your drunk, plus the portion was pretty big! Atmosphere was awesome, loud, boisterous, and fun. Beer kegs were creatively used as tables along the side, but can be a bit small if you have a group bigger than 4 and are ordering food o__O but it's a nice touch! This place just gets better and better! One of many places directly helping a resurgence in Kaka'ako, Honolulu Beerworks is a great microbrewery and meeting place. Situated roughly halfway between downtown and Waikiki, it's the perfect place to stop on your way home from work. There is lots of street parking in the area, free depending on the time. There are also lots of newer places popping up the area, so there's a lot of other things to do (bars, restaurants, shops, and even the Agora). Only open for a year, they've already made a reputation for quality brews and delicious foods. The choices of the latter are limited, but you can't go wrong with any of the selections (it's also one of the rare places that as good soft pretzels and Italian hoagies; it feels like being home in Pennsylvania). The restaurant itself is in an old warehouse, which they use as their style. There are picnic tables and old barrels with high seats. Big windows let in fresh air; there is also 'outdoor' seating in the space between the buildings. I love the giant ceiling fan. The decor is completely wood and metal and it works very well. The bar is big and roomy. I also like the chalk board menu to outline their new and limited brews. They already have tons of beer stuff for sale- glasses, growlers, and apparel. It was my first time here so I was surprised they didn't ask for a card to keep a tab because I'm used to bars asking for one. So not to my surprise the waitress was walking around and it seemed that a table walked out without paying. Well that's what happens when you don't check up on your customers. Now we did come in almost towards closing time (845pm) so I wish they would've told us their kitchen closes at 9 but they never informed us so after ordering some beers we tried to order some food at 910 pm but the kitchen was closed. Really cool place in Kakaako. Wanted to taste some beer and they had "tasters" which were 4 ounces for $2 each and no tax. I had to try 4 different beers of Kewalos Cream Ale, CocoWeizen, Cooke Street ESB, and Point Panic Pale Ale. Maximum of 6 different beers to write on a paper. My favorite of the four beers I tried was CocoWeizen. It's Hefeweizen (one of my favorite beer) with coconut. It was light, tasty, crisp, and delicious. The others were great too and I didn't try all their beer. There's 11 beers to choose from and 2 of them are seasonal. Since Octoberfest is coming up, sometime in late-October they'll have a couple season drinks which I want to go back and try different beers and eat different food. I ordered a panini sandwich that had pastrami and it tasted great with one pickle on the side and ruffle potato chips, which was $11. The atmosphere is amazing! The bench style is just like the German way of how they have seats and you can sit with strangers. The place is relatively huge as there's other areas to sit at. Hello, my name is Courtney... and I am a beeraholic. My husband and I love beer. We have literally traveled the world together drinking beer. We have beer tasted our way through Belgium, France, England, and Amsterdam. Honolulu Beerworks is legit and is here to stay! I love the open atmostphere at Honolulu Beerworks. Benches, barrels, and a bar. There is also a small outside area. But enough about that. They have a small menu right now which I'm told will probably expand. We had the Bavarian soft pretzel with beer cheese fondue sauce that went perfectly with all the beers we tried. We also had the smokin' ahi dip with bread. That too was delicious. I can't wait to see what else they add to their menu. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about all their beers. The owner and brewer Geoff is amazing. Simply amazing! We met him at one of the Du Vin beer dinners and he is the most down to earth guy with a serious passion for beer. His creations are divine and he even showed us his beer book of formulas and recipes. I felt like I was being shown his baby! His passion for beer shines so brightly it makes me put on my beer googles. As for the beer... They know what they are doing here! My personal favorite is the pia mahi'ai saison (and not just because it is 6% ABV). My husband is an avid pale ale fan and loved the point panic pale ale and the kaka'ako kolsch. But you really can't go wrong with any beer you get here. They are all great! If you don't want a whole pint, order a bunch of tasters for only $2 each! The first time I went here was because a group of friends who wanted to get together. One of them suggested on a bar that was relatively new in the area and also had to do an assignment where they had to ask someone about their marketing and stuff. It's located in the wonderful part of Kakaako, Cooke St. That's where the magic really happens.. it's a great location. Street parking is fair enough, a challenge but a short walk is always fine. Anyway I'm just gonna jump the gun. I love beerworks. I'm pretty sure not every bartender and waiter is cool (maybe I haven't gone to many bars) but the ones at beer works are. One of the things I value whenever I go to a restaurant or anywhere that deals with talking to people (everywhere) is GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I love talking to people, I like getting to know the people who I have contact with and just hope that they're outgoing enough to keep the conversation going. That's what the bartenders and waiter did with me when I went to beerworks TWICE. They love having a conversation as well as patient enough to talk about their beers. This is also where I learned about the monks who only know parts of a single recipe that makes up some amazing beer. You should ask some of the staff about it. lol My other favorite thing about here was the Flights.
