Just a heads up the Yelp pin location is incorrect. Glad I read the reviews that said it's at the Ala Moana mall before walking over from my hotel. Probably need a car/uber if you're in the further East end or the even center of Waikiki. The confusing thing is that when you search on Google Maps "2002 Kalākaua ave" it shows the yelp pin location. Honolulu Bistro is absolutely amazing! It's a hidden gem right behind the main food court at Ala Moana. The woman who works at the front is always very sweet and friendly, and the interior decor is so cute! There are several high top chairs, a couch, and some small tables inside and outside for seating. Onto the best part - the food! I've tried the Pesto Deluxe, the Spamwich, and the Pastrami. All of them are amazing!!! The sandwiches are freshly toasted, and the proportions of each topping is perfect. With every bite, I get a nice cheese pull, and just enough of every ingredient so it feels balanced - there's never one bite full of just cheese, and another bite filled with all the sauce. I'm honestly shocked at how evenly they spread all the ingredients every time. Most other sandwich shops I've visited don't have this consistency! You can tell that the sandwiches are freshly made. They're warm when they come out, and you immediately get that fresh cheese pull when picking up one half. I'm looking forward to my next visit! I'm definitely going to come more often. read more

You would never guess that such a small spot tucked away in the basement of Ala Moana could be THIS good. I'm not even a tomato soup person, but this was, without exaggeration, the best tomato soup I've ever had in my life. We loved it so much that we came back again. It's the perfect place to slow down after shopping, sit comfortably, eat real food, and not commit to a big and expensive mall restaurant. The sandwiches are top-notch. On one visit we came during peak lunch time, and it was really busy. The wait felt long and I can I admit I was a little annoyed at first. But the moment the food arrived, all irritation disappeared (and I even felt slightly guilty for complaining). It was so worth it. The mozzarella pesto sandwich is incredible -- fresh, flavorful, perfectly balanced. The pastrami sandwich is just as good. Even our toddler loved the food: he happily shared the soup and sandwiches with us. The mango smoothie was fine, but not the highlight -- a little on the sour side, maybe not mango season. Everything else? Outstanding. The atmosphere is another big plus. The place feels cozy and thoughtfully designed. There's a lovely sofa corner, and even when it's busy, many people order to go, so the seating turnover works well. We managed to sit down both times without stress. The staff is super friendly, happy to help, and great about packing leftovers if you need it. Located on the first floor of Ala Moana, this place is a gem. It's absolutely beautiful on the inside. Upon entering, you'll be promptly greeted by staff. They've got a variety of different amazing sandwich options from savory to sweet, then offer delectable sides to include local kettle cooked chips, tomato soup, and smoothies too! They do have seating available, but it is minimal. Luckily, if it is busy, the food court is right around the corner for additional seating. Ultimately, we elected for Da Aloha and The Pastrami seeing as how it was lunch time. Both meals came out in a reasonable amount of time and looked amazing. We finally got to try Honolulu Bistro and it did not disappoint. This place was recommended by a lot of reviewers and we were happy that it lived up to the hype. We decided on the PBBH and Da Aloha sandwiches. The PBBH is a peanut butter, banana and honey grilled sandwich dusted with powdered sugar. The peanut butter was ooey gooey and everything worked so well together! I could eat this sandwich every single day. No joke! Da Aloha is a rainbow grilled cheese on garlic bread. The buggah was winnahz! And the cheese pull was IG worthy. Next time we're going to try it with the tomato soup. Drooling as I write this. Service was top notch. Super friendly and helpful. The restaurant was cute and had a lot of photo spots. They also serve fresh smoothies and all drinks are made in-house. I Love their pastrami sandwich, loaded with pastrami and cheese that ooozes when pulled apart. Dipped in their special sauce served with pickles on the side is epic! Their Deluxe Pesto is another winner. Filled with moist chicken with their delicious homemade pesto and loaded with cheese. You need to buy their special tomato soup to dip the sandwich into. The sandwiches was stringy pulled apart even after 20 minutes. The service there is the Best! Andrew and Kelly are one of the most friendliest people I know. Don't know them personally but they make me feel like I have known them forever. Makes for a pleasant time while I wait for my order. Their food truck is the cutest thing I've ever seen! Great find for lunch! Located on 1st floor of the mall, outside of the Makai Market Food Court, facing the parking garage. Local husband and wife team own and operate. Very friendly and made good suggestions. Small establishment with counter top seats. We ordered the pastrami and the spamwich. Both were great but my husband and I agreed the spamwich was the best. I just met my new absolutely favorite pastrami sandwich!!! I actually popped in moreso to get my wife something new as she loves pesto sandwiches, in which I was going to get myself a plate lunch somewhere else haha. Seems pretty obvious that you stuff a grill cheese with pastrami and it would be a hit haha. The bread was toasted and had a nice crunch, the cheese oh so gooey played so well with that slight funk and saltiness of the pastrami. You think this place would be life changing but it was life changing in a bad way. The grilled cheese sandwich was way too salty and the soup tasted like straight up canned. The food was decent. It was my first time here. I got the Da Aloha, a mozzarella grilled cheese sandwich with rainbow food coloring. I also got the tomato basil soup to go with it. My friend ordered The Pastrami, a mozzarella and beef pastrami sandwich. Da Aloha tasted like any other grilled cheese sandwich. The rainbow coloring was a little gimmicky, but made for great photo ops. All the little kids and some big kids stopped in front of the glass window and looked at my sandwich. The tomato soup was meh. It was watery and tasted like vegetable soup. My friend liked his The Pastrami. He said the dipping sauce that came with it was really good.
