This little gem is in the heart of Waikiki. Honestly I just randomly stumbled upon it, and thought to myself why not? I love trying new things so let's go ahead and give it a try. I know what you're thinking, grilled cheese ? Seriously ? Out of the food in Hawaii this is one thing you choose to try for dinner ? And I would say yes every time. This grilled cheese has a special place in my food palette. I have not found another grilled cheese anywhere else in all the places I have been at that replicates this delicious flavor and taste. It was so good that I end up coming back for 4 days straight my stay in Hawaii ! I had the following below: *PATTY - 5/5 - It is the best grilled cheese I have ever had in my life ! It has a nice tasty beef patty, 4 cheeses (Cheddar, Mozzarella, Provolone, American) Caramelized onions, Bacon and Aioli sauce ! It was boasting with flavor ! Bread was soft, cheeses were boasting with flavor, aioli sauce was amazing. I really wish i paired this with their tomato dip ! I can only imagine how much this would've complimented the grilled cheese. The service was exceptional ! The establishment is a small so be sure to eat this on the go or they have small tables set up if you'd like to eat there ! read more

This place was amazing! I've never had a better grilled cheese sandwich. We ordered the Aloha sandwich and a classic grilled cheese with jalapeños and onions, and both were absolutely delicious. The sandwiches came out quickly, were perfectly toasted, and had so much gooey, melted cheese. All of the toppings worked really well together and made every bite flavorful. Another big plus is that this was one of the few places open late at night, which made it a great option after a long day. The only downside was that it was a little difficult to find an open table since there's limited seating. Other than that, I'd definitely come back and highly recommend it! read more

Walked in around 22:45 for a late night bite on a Thursday night. This place has a constant flow of patrons. Don't be intimidated by the line. The guys hustling back there cooking are efficient. They crank out the orders. We tried the Grilled cheese patty melt with a tomato basil soup. The patty could have used a little salt, but from their perspective I can see how all pf that cheese can help with that. The soup was tasty and amazing. They ate open late and it is appreciated. We had a big day of walking, exploring Waikiki beach and Honolulu, and so we were quite famished when late lunchtime rolled around. Fortunately we caught Aloha Melt shortly before they closed at 2 p.m. for the comfort food we craved. I saw on the menu that they did offer a tomato soup option, which is one of my favorite pairings in the whole wide world... but this was my birthday vacation so we stepped it up a notch! We got the signature Aloha Melt which sounded like it had all the extras anyone would ever want on a dressed-up grilled cheese: carmelized onion, bacon, jalapeñoes! My mouth was watering just thinking about it. But the mission was clear... Get the awesome loaded grilled cheese and commence the day drinking. We ordered our food at what is pretty much a tiny to-go counter and then hustled with our precious cargo to the nearest bar within walking distance. We settled on Rivals, a little sports bar around the bend who accommodated us so sweetly, although we were bringing in outside food. We completed our visionary mission by ordering two fantastic Bloody Marys and had ourselves a very adult grilled cheese experience. This may be a small store, but it serves mighty flavors! We enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwich paired with their delicious tomato soup. The soup was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. My mom and I decided to do by here after searching yelp and seeing it was close to the hotel we were staying at. It was on a little busy street with various food options. The store was small with only a few tables instead but nicely decorated and smelled great. Food was made to order so there was a wait but I didn't mind. I got the patty melt and tomato soup. It was a bit greasy but it was delicious. So good that I went back the next day to get it again. The woman who took my order remembered me and my order the next night when I returned. This was right around the block from our hotel. The little spot makes a big presence when you walk by! We said that we have to try it while we are here. We went after surfing one morning. Got the Aloha Patty Melt and the Bacon Patty Melt. Both our them were oozing with cheese and meat. They came with the sauce on the side to dip the grilled cheese in. So freaking good! If you love cheese, you HAVE to try this place! I ordered the Aloha Melt, which came with cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, bacon, onion, and pickled jalapeño. It was made super chsseesy, with a crispy, well-grilled exterior (even the crust!). The best part was the sauce on the side. The sriracha aioli was the perfect pairing and really brought everything together. Service could be improved, as the staff didn't say much when taking our order. The ambiance is just okay. Quite heavy and very filling, I could only finish half of the sandwich and barely 1/3 of my soup. Top of the sandwich was nice and crunchy, bottom was a bit soggy, which caught me a bit off guard and was dripping in oil. The spicy sauce on the side has a kick! On my 8 day trip to Hawaii we came back here like 2 or 3 nights because our hotel was literally down the street. ADDICTIVE BRO so freaking good wth. I wanna book another trip to get it again. The prices are super fair with the basic grilled cheese is $10 and the Aloha Patty Melt is $14, you definitely get what you pay for. Came by for a late night snack. It's super close to Waikiki beach...a little shop where you can order at the counter and they have a few tables. We ate this in the car on the way back to the hotel. This place isn't bad for a late night bite. If you're drunk or having those munchies, this is the spot. I tried the highly popular Aloha Patty Melt ($15) which was sort of all over the place. I thought the cheese was extra heave while the meat was falling apart. I think it was sort of an overkill in my opinion, but that's just me; I'm sure most people love this. The sandwich started to tear apart and get too greasy. I tried pairing the melt with their tomato bisque but they didn't really compliment each other like I thought they would. The soup was also a hit too salty and a bit sour tasting. It was heavy in the stomach. Not sure I'd come back again but it's definitely worth trying! read more

The meat was VERY well seasoned and the side sauce I don't know what's in it but whew so good. The guys in the back were very busy but still remained kind. I tried their regular grilled cheese and was amazed at the amount of cheese they added. The bread was crispy too (but not greasy). Smelled like butter, which was nice. First, over time, they switched from white bread to whole wheat, which I can understand if they want it to appear healthier. Now it wasn't delicious anymore, but still acceptable. More recently, when I tried it again, the taste seemed off. To my taste, the recipe has changed. I didn't just try one, I tried a second sandwich as well. It is no longer even okay. I will no longer purchase it.

We also shared an acai bowl that was super fresh and had strawberries, bananas, and blueberries. They have indoor and outdoor seating and other pastries and items on the menu to order. Super close to Waikīkī beach if you want to enjoy on the beach as well. Service was great, workers were friendly and kind. There were some birds around trying to come for our fruit. Not too sure about parking since it's in a pretty busy area.

Honestly, it was a get up and leave kind of thing. The whole place was just dingy and didn't feel great. I've eaten at some very modest places in my native San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, so it's not a snobbery thing. It's a "someone get a Swiffer wet jet and some paper towels and give this whole place a once-over. Speaking of once, that's the sum total of times we'll ever eat here. Well, the Monkeypod Kitchen Mai Tai is that "song" for me. No matter how many months pass between trips to Hawaii, it's the one thing I'm always craving. First stop after our five plus hour flight is to always sit at the bar and hum my way through a Mai Tai. We've tried competitors' Mai Tais, but Monkeypod has THE BEST Mai Tai on the island (possibly the country)! It contains a double shot of rum, so pace yourself if you're a lightweight. What makes this extraordinary is the lilikoi (passion fruit) foam on the top. It's the reason I am "passion"ately in love with this cocktail. We've eaten at a table in their main dining room, however, we really enjoy bar seating during Happy Hour, which is from 3:30pm-5:00pm, daily (except select holidays) and again from 9:00pm-11:00pm. It is first come first serve at the bar. If you prefer table seating, be sure to make a reservation. The wait can be long without one. Their Happy Hour items include all of their appetizers at half price, excluding any seafood. Cocktails are $4 off, beers $2 off, wine by the glass $3 off and the pizzas (excluding the Bourgeois) are $17. All of the items we've tried are super delicious and the bartenders are all very friendly and professional. They also provide live music daily, at 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 7:30pm. I had a pretty disappointing experience at this sandwich shop. I was excited to try it, but that changed the moment I opened my sandwich and immediately saw a long hair sitting right on top of the food--before I even took a bite. It was honestly off-putting and made me lose my appetite completely. Situations like this really make you question the cleanliness and attention to hygiene in the kitchen. I understand mistakes can happen, but something like this feels like it should be easily avoidable. Overall, I won't be coming back.
