There are other Hawaiian counter service places in town that have much better quality and variety. I got the 2 choice meal with chicken curry and short ribs. The ribs were super grisly and tough. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is that the seasoning/flavor of the meat was pretty good. The curry was very weird, more gravy-like and pasty and the flavor was off-putting, compared to what I'm used to for curry. The chicken was tender, though, and I liked the rice. The cucumber salad I got on the side was oddly sweet and neither andy nor I could stomach it. Andy got the sausage and egg meal and seemed to enjoy his so maybe he'll give this place a better review...but I won't be back. read more

The food alone is worth the 5 stars, but the atmosphere of the restaurant is so inviting and chill, and the people are SO incredibly kind and fun! We never have to wait very long for our food and it is so so so good. So fresh, always choice cuts of meat, perfect portions (I get the mini and my husband gets a single), and beautiful presentation! I was extremely excited to try this place out after my hike at Zion. It was located right near the hotel I stayed at too! And it's number one on yelp searches for places in St. George. The restaurant looked like a Mexican Taco Shop inside, a run of the mill. And the restrooms were quite dirty, glad I didn't see any roaches like others. Hoping the food would at least be good. I ordered the 3 meat combo with rice & macaroni salad which consisted of short rib, chicken katsu and teriyaki chicken. There was only one piece of short rib and extremely chewy. The chicken katsu didn't come with any sauce, so it was pretty much just fried chicken strips with barely any meat if any, just batter... Only decent thing was the teriyaki chicken which was somewhat bland, not as flavorful as I thought it would be, it was just missing something but it wasn't awful. The macaroni salad macaroni was over cooked. And for some reason the rice and sauce tasted like it was cooked it extremely dirty water or something, thought I was getting something from the sewage. I also tried a bit of my bf's chicken which instead of getting rice, he chose to get the noodles. Out of everything, the noodles and chicken teriyaki were the best part of the meal... This place is excellent. It's a tad bit pricier than what I'd want to pay but that's well compensated by the sheer quantity of awesome food. I recommend the katsu and the short ribs. Katsu is perfectly crisp and the sauce on the side let's you adjust the taste. Short ribs are a bit fatty but well caramelized and gushes with flavor. Surprisingly the macaroni salad is amongst the best salads I've had anywhere, which really surprised me. Not sure how to describe the flavor profile but it's really refreshing and not cloying (which meshes well with the ribs and fried chicken). The kalua pork is so so in my book though, though I'm sure if you like pulled pork you'd like it. read more

Don't blame them since restaurants will typically change recipes to the local taste buds. Rating breakdown: + 1 star for friendliness Even though they were closing in about now 30 min, they let us dine in. + 2 stars for menu selection, ambiance, etc. They have your typical plate lunches plus some other items like manapua, and kim chee. I was amazed to see a restaurant in Utah setup like any other typical Hawaiian plate lunch restaurant, and they were playing island jams! It's almost like your in a L&Ls. -2 stars for lack of/completely off flavor I have to admit, I don't blame them. You tend to tailor recipes to your audience. Here in St. George, so far I have not seen a sriracha bottle or anything really spicy here. Mac salad: too much pepper. It kind of was watered down as well. Kalua pork: watered down. I ordered a mini plate of barbecue chicken with brown rice, and it was a great deal! I don't remember the exact price but it was definitely under $6. The chicken was tender, the rice was cooked well, the macaroni salad was a little too salty for me, and their brown sauce is so good! The cashier asked me if I wanted 2 and I said no - big regrets cause I poured that sauce all over everything! Broke da mouth! Soooo ono! Okay, so I've eaten my way around Oahu several times and enjoyed many plate lunches. This ranks right up there as one of the best. A little piece of Hawaii here in the desert of Utah. I got the teriyaki beef (typical in Hawaii) and the Sesame chicken (not typical Hawaiian fare). Both were outstanding. For the reviewer who said that the macaroni is overdone, that's just how it always is in Hawaii. I found the mac salad authentic. For better or worse. Having been to other Hawaiian grills I thought I knew what to expect at Honolulu Grill. I was pleased to find a much larger menu than expected as well as the options to just get MEAT!! I didn't want rice or macaroni salad so it was perfect!! The short rib salad was delicious. We also tried the curry, the teriyaki chicken and the garlic chicken. All were so so good! The first thing that struck me while eating here is how incredibly nice everyone is! My family decided to split two 3 choice combos and the woman taking our order immediately asked us if we wanted extra plates once she heard we were sharing. She was also very patient while we struggled to remember the six meat choices we had picked out. We ended up getting chicken curry, kalua pork, shortribs (galbi), katsu chicken, coconut shrimp, and the laulau pork. We ordered macaroni salad with one platter and the cucumber salad (namasu) with the other. The portions were pretty big, and everything was amazing! The shrimp were huge and the coconut flavor was really fragrant. I'm usually not even much of a shrimp fan, but I loved these. They were cooked to a perfect crisp doneness. The coconut sauce is slightly sweet, kind of like bang bang shrimp. The laulau is lean, but the leaves (luau?) really imparted a ton of flavor. The kalua pork was also really lean but had a roasted flavor and was moist, which was a pleasant surprise. Usually, I always think pulled pork is too dry, but this was just right. The kalbi is a perfect combo of sweet and savory and tastes just like Korean kalbi, if you're familiar with Korean food. It's really tender and not too chewy or too fatty. The curry chicken is really saucy and tastes like a Japanese style curry. The chicken katsu comes perfectly fried, with a light crispy coating of panko breadcrumbs and comes with a traditional katsu type brown sauce. My personal favorites were the shrimp, the katsu, and the kalbi but my family loved all of our choices and my mom was all ready to buy another plate after one bite of the curry chicken! The white rice comes with a sweet sauce either on the side or on the rice. The cucumber salad consists of lightly sweet pickled cucumber, carrot, and sweet onion. The macaroni salad is a traditional salad, with thin carrot shreds mixed in with the macaroni. I preferred the macaroni salad. We loved the place so much that we ended up getting a custard malasada to share too even though we were pretty full. (It's pretty hard not to get in that happy Hawaiian state of mind when Israel Kamakawiwoole is crooning Somewhere Over the Rainbow over the speakers!) I'd never heard of a malasada before, but I'm not one to turn down a piece of fried dough, especially when it's got custard in it. It came freshly fried and was literally steaming hot. The dough has a light chewiness to it and comes rolled in sugar. The custard is creamy thick and deliciously eggy just like a proper custard. The restaurant was near full when we came in just before 6pm, and it had a constant stream of customers the entire time we ate, and it's pretty clear why! We loved everything we ordered and the people working were so sweet and helpful. They played a stream of Hawaiian music, including some songs off the Moana soundtrack, which was really cute. We had a great time here, and I could easily see myself eating here all the time if I only lived nearby. read more

So, a friend recommended this place to me, and when I mentioned long lines, he went silent, probably because when the line gets long, they slow down. The restaurant doesn't know how to judge for food during spring break and they ran out of a staple - teriyaki chicken! The patrons here were unbelievably rude. One cut right in front of us, pushing me in the process just to get a table, which we already had our own so I wasn't interested in theirs! No, "Excuse me," or "I'm sorry." The mom just looked at us like "what's your problem?" When we finally got up to order, the people behind us no longer left the personal space needed to place orders or to pay. They bumped us the entire time, as if waiting to jump in to order with us. Seriously, rude people! The food itself was delicious, what we did order. It was very Hawaiian in both flavor and the restaurant itself. Just a little surprised that after years of operating that one would understand trends to ensure you don't run out of food. Teriyaki beef was delicious! Kalua pork was good as was the bbq chicken. We also ordered Malasadas - 3 regular and 1 with custard. We got the 3 plain but no custard. I'm sure their food would be good if they ever had it available. We asked for three menu items. The first two were "unavailable." The third was "no longer available from our supplier." What?! Then why is it still on your menu?! And why isn't a small place like yours making everything fresh in-house?! The food we eventually got was OK, nothing special. This place is a taste of the islands. They have a nice variety of classic Hawaiian dishes. I opted for the signature Kalua pig. Everything was yummy. The topper was the half price shave ice with meal purchase. It was almost like the North Shore. This is wonderful food for a reasonable price. My wife and I ate a filling meal including drinks and desert for less than $30. read more

The food was served in to-go containers, which I thought was a bit odd, but I can see how that would be useful. We ordered the Hawaiian plate and the 2 choice plate with kalua pork and teriyaki chicken (but we ended up receiving katsu chicken and teriyaki chicken). The Hawaiian plate was definitely the better of the two. Overall the food was kind of bland, but the BBQ chicken in the Hawaiian plate was good. The musubi was good too. For sides, but the cucumber salad and macaroni salad were good. All in all, we got huge portions for $25 total of decent grub.
