As a Polynesian who was born and raised in Oahu I enjoyed Honolulu Grill's local food. I did like their version of their macaroni salad......it did have flavor but it was a little salty. I'm glad they didn't add anything else to their salad because it is called "macaroni salad." Their teriyaki sauce was sweet and if they put cornstarch in it to thicken it, maybe they should use a little less or no cornstarch at all. Overall, I do enjoy their food when I come to St. George. After a long drive with my dogs from Park City, I found this great plate lunch place. The staff was more than helpful with getting me water for the dogs in the 100 degree heat. The chicken katsu and Kailua pork were great. I ordered the brown rice which they somehow got a little sticky which is awesome because it is healthier than white, but texture wasn't a bummer. Speaking of healthy, I passed on the macaroni salad (this was very hard) and got the side of pickled cucumbers. Again - great call on a hot day. I will go back on my next long drive past. read more

I've always been happy with Honolulu Grill. The food is delicious(ono) Went recently. Ordered a teriyaki sandwich-on bill board =$8.50 BUT was charged $9.50. Asked what happened and was told they were in the process of changing the bill board. I told her that they should just cross it out with tape and put the Real price. SAD!!! Service was great! The cashier was great at taking the order and full of kindness, unfortunately my reasons for the lower rating is due to the food. We ordered the following: - Chicken Katsu - Loco Moco - Musubis - Spicy Ahi Poke The Katsu was just okay, nothing overly crazy, nothing substantial about the flavor. The issue was more with all the Mac salad, beef patty in the loco moco, and the poke. They were way over seasoned. I was really disappointed in the poke, I'm a huge poke lover and this was just not what I'm use to eating. It was way too salty, which went for the beef patty and Mac salad as well, just a lot of salt is what I was tasting. On a really good note, the curry was super good and I'd highly recommend it. Musubis were a good treat as well. Overall it was an underwhelming visit. If you get any Poke, I'd ask if you could sample it prior to purchase, I love making it myself and can say that it will taste different time to time and that could have been the case here, so try sampling it before hand. Poke is expensive and buying a pound of it only to not be able to enjoy it is a true shame. Still a decent joint to grab a bite, but have been to better. read more

We like to try new places when traveling, so we chose her for one night for dinner. WOW! It was so good! Very large portions of food. Our party of 6 got a variety of things to try and there was not a bad meal in the group. The macaroni salad was probably the bigger hit in the group. Sorry I'm not a fan of any of the 3 meals that we ordered. I had the ribs, mon had the chicken bbq and hubby had the beef burger. I tried the 3 meals and I'm not impressed. I probably had like 3 bites of mine and I stopped eating, it has a weird flavor and after taste, the need is too fat and tough and the flavor is weird. Hubby said his burger taste weird and it does . Moms meal was okay I guess but it's not really good compared to most Hawaiian places I've been to. read more

I got the Hawaiian combo. It was great. The teriyaki chicken was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The Kalua pork was also tasty. Awesome Hawaiian food for a great price! I lived in Japan for a year and a half, and a lot of Hawaiian food is very similar. So often when I'm craving Japanese food I go to the local Hawaiian food place! This one had great portion size, great flavors, and the waitress that served me was incredibly nice. The only downside is the teriyaki sauce on the rice is way too thick and not dark enough! But to balance that I got the first halfway decent katsu sauce I've had since being in Japan!! read more

Came here based upon a strong recommendation by a friend. The food was excellent and very tasty albeit the katsu chicken was quite fatty. I'd give this place a perfect 5 stars but I was overcharged and it was a hassle to get the refunded amount. I also wish they had the fill yourself drink dispenser out in the lobby area. Fast food style Hawaiian eatery with reasonable pricing. We ordered short beef ribs plate ($14.99) and BBQ/garlic combo plate ($10.99) to go. Each plate came with two scoops of rice and a side. We went with the mac and cucumber salad. All the proteins were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The side were also very tasty. Both plates also came with a sweet chili sauce for the rice. Not a typical restaurant that you would find in a small Utah town. We wanted to find something close to authentic for Hawaiian food. There menu perfectly reflects some of the common Hawaiian dishes you would find. IA enjoyed some Spam and eggs. The Spam was a lightly fried which was a great salty taste. Not over the top. I also ended up just sticking with a regular fountain drink. My friend John decided to purchase one of their donuts. Apparently this is a process that they do because they actually make them fresh in house. If you are prepared for a little bit of a wait the donut is absolutely worth it. read more

The kalbi ribs were tender and flavorful, the Mac salad was solid and their garlic chicken is probably my favorite garlic chicken in Utah so far. Ohana Grill in Provo has a good garlic chicken entree too but I like Honolulu Grill's garlic chicken the most. What a joke this place is! I passed this place every single day for over a year, and finally decided to try it out. I asked the lady at the register what she would recommend, but the first three things she mentioned they were out of. The dish I finally chose was coconut shrimp. Once I decided on the shrimp, she asked what salad I would like, and given the options, I went for the cucumber salad. She asked if I would like sauce on my rice, and I just said, yes. Fine. After waiting nearly half an hour, a person came out with my order in a bag. I thanked her, and went home. This is where it gets interesting. The dinner was served in a styro clamshell, with one small section barely filled with that cucumber salad. The rest was rice after rice, upon rice. The other "side" was white rice with some sauce on it. The entree was seven barely seasoned coconut shrimp on a bed of more rice! The shrimp was barely anything I would call a specialty, and the massive amount of rice served under it did not make up for its deficiencies. Not to mention replace the "side dish" offered. Had I known they were trying to get rid of excess rice made that day, I would have asked for doubled salad. Even then, It would not have amounted to the excessive price asked. Clearly, I'm willing to give any place a good go. Yet, despite their market, they fall very, very short. I gave them one chance, and I will not give them another. Local grindz in St. George, Utah? Yes! After lunching at Chik-fil-A, I needed a good place for dinner. My Yelp app told me to go here; lots of positive reviews and I was craving some short ribs. This is the kind of set-up where you order at the counter and pick a booth to sit. The menu was extensive, with combos, bowls, manapua, Spam musubi, and even shaved ice. I ordered the short rib plate with brown rice, as well as manapua (aka siopao for the Pinoys) and one Spam musubi to go. The staff is very friendly and our drinks were refilled often; there is no soda fountain for you to get your own. I got four pieces of short ribs in my order and they weren't too fatty. I enjoyed them as well as my manapua, which I haven't had in a long time. There was also a side of cucumber salad with vinegar--just like my mom makes. I can definitely say that it holds it's own against any plate lunch restaurant we've eaten at. Also, it's run by (a family of?) Hawaiians, who are really nice- they came up to us three times to check if we were happy with our food and to chat. They have a truly authentic plate lunch: excellent sticky rice, tasty macaroni salad, and lots of options! We had the $5 special Katsu and BBQ chicken, both were very tender and flavorful. Wait, where is St George Utah located? You're headed north on I-15 and drove through the gorge and a small part of the state of Arizona. Suddenly, you find yourself in Utah and in the city of St. George. Quick, get off the interstate and go to Honolulu Grill for lunch or dinner. I don't know how great Hawaiian food found its way to such a small town of mostly 'haoles' and generic food. I believe the owners are from Hawaii and their food is definitely 'da kine'. Hawaiian BBQ short-ribs are my favorite and they serve it with the traditional plate of steamed Japanese rice and macaroni salad. Their meat sauce is soooo good I ask for extra to pour over my rice. That's a big faux pas for an Asian like me who knows only non-local island folks do that to their rice! Oh, so embarrassing, but ASK FOR IT. You'll eat every morsel of rice on your plate! The place doesn't have much ambience, but the owners and staff have loads of aloha spirit. It's worth the stop during your road trip. read more

The Kalula pork is SO moist and tender and very flavorful. The teriyaki chicken was delicious also. The teriyaki sauce has chunksa of pineapple in it. We also really loved the macaroni salad and the cucumber salad.
