Had to check this little dive bar out since it was near where I was staying and apparently popular with the locals. Overall experience was good, but I wish the staff wasn't too busy because there were a few times where I wanted to order more alcohol, but they were no where to be found. I was placed in the second room (not the one with the actual bar) so service was not as good. I do have to say that the prices are really good because I was able to get buzzed and the final price was pretty cheap! I was kind of bummed that they couldn't make drinks like a Moscow mule, but they have plenty of other alcohol options and even shot specials! read more

The manager needs to do less crack. Shaking, can't make eye contact, spitting out her words. They also refused a service animal into their bar, after having been given proper paperwork. You better believe a lawsuit is pending. Do better. You're serving the public for crying out loud. Absolute trash. Won't be going there again. read more

Quick notes: fun dive bar just off the beaten path. drinks are solid and reasonable prices. No kitchen for the Super Bowl but I'm not sure about regularly. They did have some good snacks for us the whole game. Service, bartender John was super nice. It's like a local "Cheers" bar because he knew most of the people's names. read more

I love dive bars like this (I prefer this over touristy spots with overpriced drinks). Best deal you're going to find in the area. Can tell it's a hangout for the locals. And can't beat 50cent wings on Sunday nights. read more

We've had a wonderful time across the street from our hotel at this tavern. They have 50 cent wings on Sunday night, and they also do taco Tuesdays, ... the only 2 days they serve food, and it happens to be 2 of my fave foods. Darren and Dana were our bartenders on Sunday and both guys were awesome. Wonderful crowd here too!! (On a personal, what-a- coincidence note, my name was going to be Darren, before i surprised my parents at birth, and they quickly renamed me Amy. And my sister's name was Dana. I'm celebrating her life this week in Hawaii, on the 5 year anniversary of her passing on 2/17/15.) read more

Cute bar near the hustle and bustle of Waikiki with all day drinks specials like Hawaiian iced tea and mai tais for under $6 (both are good, don't recommend the blue Hawaii ($7) and it tastes like juice unless you like that sorta cocktail. There's a designated spot to order (in between the sneeze guards) and it's super fast easy to order, get your drink and start a tab. Great dive bar in Waikiki. Drink specials are excellent and the food isn't bad either. We met some locals we know here for a few drinks. Its a mix of locals and some "adventurous" tourists. It's fairly small but they do have another side with a pool table etc. Next time your in Waikiki give this place a shot for some non-tourist, "off the beaten path" flavour read more

I just love this place. When I was visiting family in Hawaii, I stayed in Waikiki for a few days and visited this place every day I was there. Super friendly staff and the regulars are very welcoming. I plan on going back in April and this will be my first stop once I fly in. read more

Yelp failed me on this spot. My whole trip it popped up as a Highly rated tavern in Oahu... this place was a total local dive dump. It's tiny, smells like wet bar rag and has nothing to offer. The bar is not that big and can be really loud. However, if that's your vibe than this is the perfect place for you. Many locals come here and it's probably because the drinks are so cheap! $5-6 for a shot or beer. This is definitely a great place if you want to get hammered for less. Other bars sell shots and beer for at least $7 or higher. They also have a juke box that allows you to queue up songs of your choice. (Costs $6 for 6 songs) Note: They no longer have a pool table. read more

This is a great local dive bar to go to whether your just arriving to the island or leaving! Great selection of drinks. The staff is fun, talkative and make you feel welcomed. There's a bar top for seating as well as a back section for more available seating if the front of the bar is busy. read more

Yeah, its a dive. And its refreshing to pop in and grab a decent drink at a decent price. Don't think that you will have any conversation - the locals don't care to participate. Been popping in there for years when I am in Waikiki, so I don't care about chit-chat. Drink that cheap cocktail and watch some sports on TV. And in between, think about the last time you had a tetanus shot. Bartender was great, they appear to carry all major bottles. At one point, they had a kitchen but I am not sure if they still do or not. read more

With covid places are still closing earlier than pre covid. After dinner we grabbed a drink here before calling it a night. It was a quick walk back to our hotel from here. Prices were great. Although the suggestion for mango truly was a no go for me. Not enough flavor for me. Obviously not the bars fault. read more

I searched for a place to catch a game while I was in the city and stumbled upon this dive bar - and what a dive it is. I absolutely had a great time. If you blink, you'll miss it - that's how small it is. However, drinks are so cheap here. It's nice to get away from the $15 Mai-Tai's on Waikiki and grab a PBR for $4 or so bucks. The bartender on duty, Dana, was such a laid back guy. I enjoyed conversation with him. I'd definitely stop back in if I were in the area. read more

I did not want to pay $14 per drink and found on yelp this local place and it was the bomb. The bartender was super sweet, gave us popcorn with our ridiculously inexpensive drinks. Just look at their happy hour, THE BEST HH in town, I am sure of it. Drinks were $3.25 and they had food as well so I ordered one pulled pork sandwich that came with caw-slaw and chips but my BF inhaled it so we ordered one more. Just a good crowd of local people. This is place an absolute gem I am so happy to have found! Perfect hole in the wall tavern if you do not like loud fun this is not the place for you! Both bartenders and owner are fantastic! Food selection is low so eat before you go if you plan on eating. Overall 10/10 would recommend if you are looking for your new spot while on vacation! They have really cheap drinks, which is exactly what I was looking for. I showed up Sunday @ 6:45pm right before HH ended and got a well drink for $3.50. The place is pretty small, but it wasn't an issue for me since I showed up a low traffic time! read more

I think this is going to be my main bar I go to when in Waikiki, April is awesome; and she makes a damn good Manhattan. Since she couldn't make my general old fashioned, heh I guess you can call me that to a extent. I know somewhat corny, but anyways I like the bartenders/bar maids etc. with the lingo. Most of them are nice, and follow the cdc rules no matter if they like it or not in order to keep people safe. The music rocks, and the ambiance is great besides a few customers that you gotta deal with. This is definitely a place I recommend, although if you're a lady be on guard like I generally am as some can be a bit or has the vibe of being rowdy or whatnot; and in general would be good to come with someone no matter what gender. Now I'm not saying it's not safe as I know the employees will deal with it, and I feel safe; but still in bars you gotta be cautious. (Forget to post this until now, but this was last year) read more

We were towards the front of the line, we waited in line for over an hour, paid a cover charge, and then weren't even allowed inside until about 10 minutes before kickoff. After finally getting seated, we couldn't even order food for another hour. The biggest offense? The sound. It was essentially nonexistent... maybe a 1/10. We literally paid a cover charge to watch the biggest sporting event in the world in near silence. We couldn't hear the match, the commentary, the crowd, or even Shakira's halftime performance. You could hear a pin drop. There was no energy, no atmosphere, no excitement. For a World Cup Final, that's completely inexcusable. When multiple people voiced concerns, the manager couldn't have seemed less interested. The vibe in the room was painfully flat, and management appeared completely indifferent. We were told the owners didn't want to turn the volume up because a speaker had blown the previous week. If that's true, then don't charge people a cover for a premium viewing experience you can't deliver. That's on ownership, not the customers. The only reason this review isn't one star is because of the staff who were actually trying. Riley, the hostess, was absolutely wonderful: friendly, organized, and professional despite the chaos. Adam (the bartender with the cherry tattoos) was also incredibly kind and made the experience far better than management deserved. The front-line staff deserve praise. The manager and owners deserve to take a hard look at what they're offering. Charging people a cover to watch the World Cup Final while making them wait over an hour to get in, delaying food service for another hour, and then failing to provide even a basic viewing experience is simply unacceptable. We left feeling like management cared more about collecting cover charges than delivering the experience people paid for.

I'd still go again and try other things on the menu and maybe ask for the colada to not be too sweet

I am the current owner. I encourage anyone reading this to come in and see for yourself what my team and I have done in here! The filth in the bar is now gone, Including the mold that was in the ice well when I took over. Gone are the days of 55 degree draft beer. Gone are the days of graffiti filled walls and trash filled front bar.The rotten food that was once filling the Tavern's food service area is also a thing of the past. I have spent much energy cleaning, repairing the Tavern as well as building a strong team to make your experience a good one. Tiffany H is a former employee who ran the karaoke. She is upset because she can no longer behave as if she owns the bar, and receive free drinks. I am extremely embarrassed for her to call the current guests bottom of barrel, especially since she tries to enter the bar at least once a week. I am proud to have all the patrons who choose to spend their hard earned money at the Tavern, a true neighborhood bar filled with Aloha. And I look forward to serving them for years to come. And to you Tiffany- Yes everyone in the world does not drink alcohol, this is true. But you are forgetting you do drink alcohol when someone buys you a drink. And you do drink alcohol when you beg to take a drink out of another patrons glass. Never the less, Honolulu Tavern - is exactly that a tavern, an establishment that serves drinks. We cater to people who would like to go out and have a drink. That is how the bills get paid and 15 people now have jobs. Horrible. They took away the hosted karaoke and brought in a machine so the huge crowd rhat used to go now go to Big Kahuna's to sing and drink. They are down to one dart board from three. There is now a pool table. Still the one filthy restroom inside and people go in there and do drugs. You risk getting impaled by a dart if you go to the restroom. At least 2 drug dealers hang out there and one of them is homeless. The owner dates a cop and she still allows the drug dealers to come in. Lots of old people go. People People do drugs inside and outside of bar of the street. They took away the yummy huge sandwiches that the former owner used to have. There are way nicer places with cheaper drinks and dollar taco night and better customers. Only the local Waikiki bottom dwellers who live nearby go here. Yeah most of them are friendly and will gladly help out any young female who strays in. read more
