I came here for a nightcap & unfortunately wished I just stayed in. Kind of a sad dive bar with extremely expensive cocktails. Watered down or filled with sugary syrups. Then they closed a couple of hours before their listed closing time. If I had known, I would not have wasted money on a cocktail that I could not even finish. Bummer. read more

The spot is small and quaint - we were seated in the back wall couch seating and it did have a particular smell like a cleaned bathroom? It was a little off putting at first and the couple that got seated after us also noticed the smell. My friend wanted to have some drinks and this popped up within walking distance from where we were staying, so we decided to give it a shot. Located inside the Waikiki Resort Hotel, we visited twice throughout our stay in Waikiki. Both nights there was a DJ and I would say for how small the place is, the volume could definitely be lowered a bit. We went on a Friday and on a Sunday, it was definitely more crowded on Friday - not sure if the DJ also played a part. Between the two visits, we tried a variety of drinks and it was a hit or miss. Some drinks were pretty good, while others tasted gross and watered down. However, considering that each drink was about $19-20, I thought everything would have tasted amazing. The staff we dealt with were all friendly and welcoming. The vibes were pretty fun too so I would definitely give it a shot if you're in the area. read more

This was a surprisingly chill spot with a nice vibe to enjoy some quality drinks. It's located in the back of the Waikiki Resort Hotel, and although walking through the lobby feels like stepping back in time, Surf Bar feels trendy and cool. The drinks were delicious with the Mahalo being one of my favorites, and the DJ was playing some great old school jams. My wife and I had ourselves a nice little night cap here. At least up until a large group of 30-something year old bachelorettes started attempting to dance next to us, which was basically our cue to leave. We stopped by Surf Bar Waikiki to close out our night after finding out SWELL actually closes at 10 PM, not midnight like it says on Google Maps. Turned out to be a great backup plan after looking around on Yelp to find a wide variety of mixed reviews for nearby bars. It's a smaller spot with a DJ playing a mix of throwbacks, EDM, and just a good variety of upbeat music that kept the energy up. There's only a few tables and a bar top to sit at, plus a dance floor in the middle. We grabbed seats at the bar on the right side. Even though we were tucked in a corner, the service was great. Everyone checked on us multiple times and offered some solid drink recs. I usually go for a tequila pineapple, but our server encouraged me to try a few of their specialty cocktails, and honestly, they were all hits. We started with the Tropical Tease, which was light and refreshing. The second one (super ducky?) had a sweet neon blue color can't remember the name but it was great. We followed that up with the Ube Pina Colada, which leaned sweeter than I usually like, but my girlfriend loved it and ordered another one later. For round three, I tried the Volcanic Rush after the server asked if I liked spicy drinks. That one ended up being my favorite of the night. After five cocktails, the tab came out to around $114 before tip. Definitely on the pricier side, but considering the drinks were all well-made, the service was super friendly, and the vibe was fun and lively, I'd absolutely come back. Cute little hole-in-the-wall bar at the Waikiki Resort Hotel. We've stayed at Waikiki Resort a few times and like that we can get a night-cap downstairs. The only downside (for us old folks) is that music can be loud, and they usually have a DJ. This place doesn't have much of a selection for food/bites. We had a charcuterie plate that was good for 2 people. They might also have a sushi plate, but I can't confirm if I saw it on the menu when we were there. Prices are average for Waikiki. I recommend the Maunakea Mai Tai for $22 for the presentation. The drink is delivered to you in a little box still smoking (from the woodchips). read more

Great music but quiet enough to hear each other. Really cool drink menu and excellent service with Bianca & Javi. We enjoyed the charcuterie board, and tried several drinks to catch up with friends for a mid-week celebration. There's live music and DJ's Tuesday through Sundays so go check them out and tell them I sent you! 3 hour parking validated at the hotel lot. A wonderful, tiny little spot tucked off the lobby of the generic (and generically-named) Waikiki Resort Hotel. It feels like a real hidden gem with minimal signage, so you kind of have to hunt it out. A few seats at a bar towards the back, then some scattered table and sofa seating in the front. Very Hawaii feel without going overboard into kitsch (though some kitsch is acceptable in Waikiki), and the lighting is just right. Low, but not dark. Very interactive servers and bartenders who can help match you up with the right drink(s) from their extensive menu. It's a great place to while away some vacation time after dinner or for a late-night final stop. read more

Tucked away in the corner of Waikiki, Surfbar is a place you want to take advantage of if you're looking for a lounge with chill vibes and innovative cocktails. One of my pet peeves about any lounge or bar is if the music is too loud or the lighting is too dim. Surfbar keeps the volume just right and has a cute table light for the aesthetic Instagram pics. - Mauna Kea Mai Tai ($22): My favorite drink! It comes in a cute treasure box and is smoked with flavored woodchips. The drink is STRONG, but I love that I can still taste the fruity pineapples and other citruses. - Lavendula ($21): My second favorite drink of the night! It has everything I love: citrus, lavender, and lychee. - Riptide ($19): Incredibly refreshing and pretty! The cucumber and mint were spot-on. - Hawaiian Sun ($21): I felt like I was transported to a Mexican beach with this drink! Sweet and tart with a little kick at the end from the habanero tequila and chili lime salt. Unfortunately, they do not carry any food other than a Charcuterie Board to share from Little Italy Hawaii, and a Naughty Affogato. But I heard through the grapevine that they sometimes hold Taco nights! - Charcuterie Board ($28): Lovely with all the essentials of a charcuterie board. I especially loved the candied blood oranges. I have to be honest though, I did find a dead fly in it after eating more than half of the board. - Naughty Affogato ($20): DELICIOUS. I would recommend sharing this because of how sweet it is, but it was a wonderful way to end the night. All of the staff were attentive to my party and were quick to whip up all of these delicious cocktails and snacks. Overall, this is definitely a place I would recommend if anyone has a group of 4-6 people and want to wind down or build up to a night out in Waikiki. read more

This is one of my favorite bars in Waikiki. It's tucked away in the back of the Waikiki Resort Hotel, and that hidden location perfectly matches its vibe. You step out of the brightly lit hotel lobby into a cozy, intimate bar, illuminated by neon lights, with tasty drinks and dance music setting the mood. The atmosphere is always relaxed. I've seen as few as three patrons and as many as thirty, and it's never felt too crowded or off. It's hidden for a reason, and the fact that you're even considering going means you're on the right track! Now, let's talk about the drinks. They're fun and delicious! I recommend the New York Crush, Shipwreck, and the Char-Tini. And I can't forget the Maunakea Mai Tai. Just the presentation alone makes it worth ordering. The Nene Crossing is also a good time; you're literally drinking out of the backside of a bird glass, which is always a conversation starter! Late nights usually feature a DJ any day of the week, spinning chill house music. It's just enough to get you dancing without overpowering your conversation. I've seen bridal parties come in after fancy dinners and rave about how much this spot added to their night. The bartenders are laid-back and from all over the place, so if you strike up a conversation, you're in for a good time. I felt extremely uncomfortable after my second NO. It felt pushy and uncomfortable. I get it you want to make more tips but let me enjoy my drink. Small can be good but this case it hampers the service. First the manager didn't remember that my friends had notified them of a pre-wedding cocktail party and so it was understaffed. As one guy left he was rather dismissive of my friend who asked for water and pointed to a water container. Then I order a drink and $28 Tandem board before my friends party got here. Once it got here I waited over a half hour for it to get to me being pushed down by others drink orders. I was told it would be a minute which I was forgotten as a matter of fact as I am writing this I still have not receive it. Other customers are have become more important than my order. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because the Fig Mule I order came out prompt and was good. Don't get me wrong the fig got lost in the ginger beer and it taste like a regular mule but for a mule it was good.
