Took over an hour for our breakfast and we only had 3 people. The food was okay but they burnt the sausage links. The $3.00 extra charge for blueberries in the short stack was absurd. Never going back. read more

Charged my mom $48 for just 2 sandwiches. She ordered over the phone and when she got there and paid, they still charged her for the fries. The lady who took her order over the phone wouldn't even come out and speak to her. I haven't ever written a review before, but I have worked in the food industry for the past 3 years and her behavior is shameful. The lady at the front who was helping my mom offered her a refund, but she just wanted to get food for lunch, so she denied. Got home and there weren't even fries with the sandwiches lol. Have been eating here for years, normally they are the sweetest staff and very accommodating. I don't remember the prices being so high though. I don't care for the lady who treated my mom poorly but besides that a nice place with a classic diner feel inside. read more

Great little diner to stop for pizza. We particularly liked the salad bar and pizza buffet. It's hard to find a salad bar these days. The pizza was steaming fresh while the salad bar had the typical offerings along with a couple cold pasta salads. Our children ordered a pepperoni pizza without sauce and it came out fairly quick and just as ordered... they loved it. Service was excellent the gentleman in charge was incredibly friendly and attentive. Extra points for the cool Pulp Fiction decor. read more

Classic restaurant that makes awesome pizza, although anything else on the menu is likely to hit the spot. Been going since i was a kid and the service is just as good years later. The all you can eat pizza buffet is always worth it for me if they're still doing that. read more

It's winter time in Michigan, and all the tourists have gone home. Consequently, not all the usual establishments are open when you go looking for a bite out. So clearly the places that are still open are favorites with the locals for one reason or another. Either because they are that good that the owners feel like it is profitable to stay open or there is loyalty to the restaurant because they are open, even if the good is not your first choice. I prefer to think it is the former in this case. This was a nice environment with food service and nice people working there. Food was reasonably priced with decent size portions. And they have ice cream! Each of us in our little group found something that we enjoyed on the menu, and everyone was satiated at the end of the meal. We ate at Papa J's past lunchtime, but the buffet was still open. Maybe a dozen patrons in the restaurant. The waitresses were friendly and got our drinks promptly before we returned from the buffet line. We both had a salad and a slice of pizza & breadsticks since more would be coming out from the kitchen. Both my wife and I returned for new fresh HOT pizza. We love Papa J's. Other than carry out, this is the first time dinning in since the pandemic. Food is really good here but as with many businesses, they need more wait staff. 1 waitress for at least a dozen tables. The food here is very good including the pizza and an outstanding salad bar. 50's and 60's decor inside is very cool. I used to come here all the time. It was great. They had pretty good burgers. But slowly it started going more and more downhill in terms of service. As time went on it takes longer and longer to actually get your food. And now the servers seem to have a bit of an attitude at times. The last time I went I decided it was the final straw and the place had gone too downhill for me to continue going. I went with some family who were staying with me. I told them we were gonna have six people. The women said, "Well it's gonna be a wait." She gave me no time frame or anything. So two in our group left. And with just The four of us we were able to get a table. We were there at about 12:30. I always get lunch as I'm not a breakfast person. They said they were not serving lunch right now. I have been going there for years and even earlier in the day than this. This was the first time they ever said that. Three of us got the buffet (it really wasn't great) and one got something from the menu. I'm not sure what it was, but it doesn't matter because he never actually got it. The sheer amount of time went buy and we just said we were leaving. I explained the situation and I still got charged for his food that he didn't get. I don't care all that much because from hence fourth I'm not going back. read more

Super fresh and delicious omelets. Not southern sweet tea ;-) but good coffee! Had the Chariot omelet and substituted black olives for green peppers, perfect! It was large and LOADED with fresh vegetables and feta cheese. Wheat toast, hash browns, & fresh fruit to complete breakfast. It looked so delicious I forgot to take a picture. AMAZING SERVICE !! Stopped by here on our drive home from Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and we got in 15 minutes before they were supposed to close. Not only were they super nice about it, they went above and beyond with the quality of the food and the service they provided. The ambience in here is definitely nostalgic. We loved the decor and the vintage collectibles all around us. The food was great and the service even better! Definitely would come back! read more

Good pizza, nice decor, and friendly attentive wait staff make this a rather pleasant out-of-the-way eatery. To our surprise, our individual pizzas were bigger than a 'personal pan' pizza. Plenty of locals eating here, so that should tell you something. Worth a shot! read more

Cute tacky and old Papa J's is kind of a retro fake and tacky 50s look pizza joint, which is just fine with me because I like tacky places like this. Lots of old signs and stuff of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe along with booths and a counter. I'm not sure exactly how old this place is but I doubt if it really has been around all that long. I did like looking at all the weird stuff on the walls and hanging off the ceiling as well as the very tacky flashing neon lights. We just kind of picked this place at random and we saw that they were having some kind of Mexican all you can eat boofay thing. I got that while my wife got some kind of steak sandwich. The service was kind of slow and we had to stand around a while until someone walked right by us and I managed to get her attention. Not rude but not exactly friendly and welcoming. So I got the Mexican boofay and I saw that the food looked like it was sitting around for a while. Some of the things were almost empty and I assumed they were going to be refilled but weren't . But I made the best of it and loaded up my plate and the stuff did indeed taste like it was sitting around for a while. I went back up for more and the near empty trays never were replaced. I was going to ask the waitress if the boofay was almost over but were didn't really see her again and we were hungry and tired and didn't want to bother to look for someone. My wife did enjoy her steak sandwich thing and I got enough to eat from picking around to find what was left of the boofay. I'm not picky, especially at boofays but this was pretty bad. I'm not sure what most Mexican food is suppose to taste like but I'm sure it's not suppose to be like this. My wife did enjoy her steak thing and the weird old stuff was nice. I'm sure on other nights at other times the restaurant is much better and it was an interesting experience. read more

I ordered the buffet because the shrimp corn chowder sounded good. Too bad it was cold (120°). I informed the server. I mentioned it to her a second time before the kitchen checked it. Then they pulled it. They offered it nuke it for the customer at the next table when server told him it was not hot. Don't know how long it had been out below serving temperature so I opted not to request a nuked serving. The rest of my meal was fine. Owner did discount my meal 50% so that was nice. Little cozy place in a small town. The service was good (this time). The waitress was very cheery and attentive. She was helping a few other tables at the same time and didn't miss a beat with us. The food was just ok. Pancakes were a little dry, eggs were not cooked to over medium (a little too runny), and the bacon was cold. The TV does not fit in with the atmosphere though. I really hate that many places now don't get how a TV can ruin the atmosphere, with the exception of a sports bar. Quit trying to please everyone. We've been vacationing in the area this week and ordered takeout tonight from Papa J's. We ordered many things: Meatball sandwich, onion rings, breaded fried mushrooms, fried pickles, a cherry chicken green salad, and pizza. Everything was delicious! The salad is a perfect flavor combination of romaine, mild bleu cheese, red onion, pecans, juicy sweetened dried cherries & tender grilled chicken. The fried pickles are unique. They take a dill pickle spear, wrap it in cream cheese and ham, dip it in beer batter, and fry it to a golden brown. There are only 2 in an order, but they're substantial. The pizza had sausage, pepperoni & green olives and it was delicious. The meatball sub was so good that my kid ate the sandwich before I could sample it. She was kind enough to give my one bite of an onion ring, and it was great. The next time we are within a 20-mile radius of this place, we are absolutely going to eat here again. read more

First, this is a very cute restaurant. It is decorated like a 50's diner and has a lot of memorabilia on the walls. It took a little while to get our food but our breakfast was very good and the staff was excellent. Great little place if you are visiting northern Michigan. read more

Since we are new to Honor and the restaurant had been closed to inside dining we have been ordering pizza from Papa Js quite a bit. Their pizza is always good. I appreciate their efforts to distance. Would definitely recommend for pizza and look forward to trying other fare once we get back to open dining. Glad this place exists in Honor! read more

I'm certain this may not happen to all, and I'll assume the food is passable for a pizzeria, but the level of customer service that I just received needs to be noted. This wasn't my first rodeo when it comes to ordering delivery. And since the hotel flyer didn't have but the location, the website and phone number - I gave them a call. Now I am aware that most delivery locations have a minimum. So that was my first question that I asked the young man who answered the phone. It was his first day, he was unaware but after placing my order for Gyro and Fries, and taking my credit card info did he at anytime indicate that this was below the delivery minimum - in fact he simply stated your food will be there in 25 minutes. Well, about 40 minutes later I hear back that there IS a minimum of $15. I simply ask in this scenario can you waive it. The young man asks management and I hear in the background - as soon as it hits the $15 min we'll deliver. I ask to be passed to the manager - Steve. I lay out the scenario, I indicate that I understand you do have a minimum and that's why I asked at the onset - but considering it is about 50 minutes since I ordered, and that I would have gone someplace else, could you oblige this customer and provide him food? And a simple Yes or No will suffice. We'll he said no, and I said thanks, and now an very dissatisfied hungry potential customer is writing this review. read more

The breakfast buffet was awesome! It was an amazing deal for $10! Scrambled eggs with ham and green peppers or plain, eggs benedict (eggs benedict at a buffet in Honor, MI?!), pancakes, waffles, cinnamon raisin french toast, three kinds of breakfast meat (including the thickest buffet bacon we've ever had), and biscuits and gravy. To finish we had fresh fruit that included strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, kiwi, and melon. Like I said, an amazing breakfast. The service was very friendly and prompt with coffee refills. This has been a go-to breakfast and pizza spot for several summers. Environment is clean and fun '50s throwback. Service is quick and always comes with a smile. Prices are very fair for a vacay area. Food is plentiful and consistently well prepared. It's well-visited by locals. And there's a good small market with a great butcher down the row of small plaza shops and services.
