For the longest time I thought that this place was still the Boulangerie Bakery. They've been taken over by Honu Bakery, the same one from Kamehameha Shopping Center. Today I picked up a curry croquette $5.50, a butter cream bun $4.50 and a Honu bread $11.99. All three items were delicious. The fried curry croquette had no meat in it. It was all veggies. I loved the filling for the butter cream bun. The butter cream wasn't heavy at all. It was airy, creamy and not overly sweet. This was my fave out of the three. They also sell some cute cakes. I saw one with a Hello Kitty face on it. I couldn't stop oohing and ahhing over it. read more

Stopped by on my way to the airport to pick up my local favorite treats!! Turtle bread and curry buns!! I could only purchase what I can carry on my plane ride back home to California and those were my top two! In this store you can bag your favorites or add favorites to a tray and bring ti the cashier where they package your treats. They also serve hot and cold beverages and coffees. This store is smaller than the one on school street. A few small tables available for dining in. I was on a stroll with my baby on King St. when I stumbled on this bakery. There wasn't anything much left in the store when I got there because it's late afternoon. Anyways, I turned around and viola!! Cakes. lol I had a hard time choosing between a tiramisu and chocolate cake. They both looked delicious but ended up picking tiramisu. And it was really good! the powder on top which is a little bitter is what I liked the most because it compliments the entire cake. Perfect blend of sweetness. I would've eaten it in one bite but I wanted to savor it. I'd probably go back and buy a whole cake for my birthday. Cashier was nice for opening the door for me as I had a hard time getting in with a stroller. Though, he could've smile more. He barely said anything when I ordered but he probably couldn't wait to go home lol not a big deal for me at all. This is a hidden gem! Parking can be a real challenge! But once you get there, there's quite a bit to choose from. I wanted to take one of everything including the cakes in the case! I needed something to go with my coffee so after circling around a few times, I parked on the side street near them. Friendly good morning when I entered. Really hard to choose from, so I went with one of my standards, almond croissant, and they have this one called biscotti toast. This is definitely a reason to stop by! Prompt service but odd? I ordered an ube cold foam latte (one of their new drinks I saw advertised on a poster) and received a cup with just ube cold foam and milk. When I asked about espresso, both workers told me there was no espresso in this drink, just the cold foam and milk. It was a bit weird since all the lattes I've had do have espresso, including their Honu latte, which I had on a previous visit. That one was worth it! Windows filled with pastries and breads lured me inside. Pastries were beautifully wrapped. The cakes are absolute works of art in cases at the counter. Some cakes had characters, other fruit. Whoever decorates, is a genius. I decided to pick up a dessert for dinner, but there was so much to choose from. The cakes started at $35, which was more than I wanted to spend on dessert. I settled on the Ube Cream Puffs, which were unique. The clerks were a little aloof, not the least bit engaging as I complimented the cakes and asked about the chef. They took my money and boxed up my cream puffs. The cream puffs were absolutely delicious. They were huge with flaky buttery crusts filled with a bright ube cream. The ube drizzle on top was sweet and yummy. I would definitely come back. 5 star cream puff, hands down. There is nearby street parking, but it's difficult to snag. read more

Three and a half stars. This small little bakery showcases cute pastry as well as some specialties. Got my fix this morning and was instructed of a few specialties that have. Honu bread, which is filled with buttercream, chestnuts, and nuts is one of them. Unfortunately the smaller size hadn't come out, so I will have to return for this. They also said the red bean bread, the curry breads are popular. I bought a cappuccino, a few breads and they also have a section of day old pastries at 30% off. If you're going to dunk your pastry in coffee, this is a great deal!! I actually bought one croissant and ate it that way and it was perfect. The place is small and the people flock in pretty early. However, not all breads are out so possibly give them a couple of hours before going. It might help with better choices then. The staff is super friendly even at an early hour. The place is small but tidy. The prices are a bit on the higher end but I know how much work goes into baking. However, not many people do and this may deter others from coming here to buy. The pastry is not too sweet and this is what I like about it. I will return to try that Honu bread!! read more

I'm really not sure what other customers see but there's no variety and a really small selection of savories, almost no pastries and I went in the morning on a "holiday". The lady was super nice this morning but the lack of food options, makes me wonder why they bother to have a 2nd location there. The cakes look delicious but yeah- the savories they have are weird combinations. Curry Croquette, Sausage (Redondo's Hotdogs) Pizza, Sausage (Redondo's Hotdog) Roll..etc. I don't think I'd recommend here due to the lack of options. Also the cramped window seating is not inviting once there's another person using 1 of the 2 tables (which are side by side). I also didn't like that once you walk in, you have to grab a tray from the counter, put the sheet on and grab your tongs. They couldn't figure a way to just put it next to the shelvings with the baked goods? read more

My boyfriend purchase a cake for me for my birthday. He buys me the character cake for me every effen year when I told him I didn't want this cake this year! Anyways, this year it was horrible. They rushed on making my cake and at first told my boyfriend that it wouldn't be made in time for today (12/24) and it'll be ready tomorrow. I called to check on it and they said it's ready and will we sang happy birthday and cut the cake. It tasted so bland. No flavor whatsoever! I could tell they rushed. He spent $55 on this damn cake! And even tipped them. Not to mention they forgot the candles. Total waste of money! And of course I was upset because I had already told him I did NOT want their cake this year! The cashiers didn't seem too happy or friendly. The inside is loud because of cars and cramped, so it is difficult to do any social distancing. The pumpkin manju sounded good, but the pretzel was soggy and the manju crust was bland. I think the inside was okay, but when compared to the other kabocha manju I have had, it was the worst. Cutest pasteries and cakes at Honu Bakery! This location was formerly known as the Boulangerie Bakery. I seriously don't know who the bakers are here, but they deserve a raise! Cakes to customize for any occasion. Since my personal tastes don't like too sweet, for everyday purchase I come here for their amazing turtle rolls. What are they you ask? They are the lightest, littlest sweet rolls all stuck together. Sliced through the middle on the horizontal and filled with the most delicious whipped creme filling. Roasted chestnuts and currants scattered generously on the whipped butter creme. Top layer placed back and covered with delicious crumbs. A large turtle roll has about 12 pull apart rolls. There is now a mini version which looks more like a flower face and has six rolls stuck together. Every occasion to share these rolls is a great enough reason for me! Also available are fancy rolls wrapped individually for the grab and go. Sister Honu bakery is located in the Kamehameha Shopping Center in Kalihi Highly recommend you get there as soo. Ad you can for some of those delicious everyday turtle roll pullaparts or other daily sustenance. read more

Don't blink and miss out on this gem... Located on South King Street in the former Boulangerie Bakery on the outside nothing seems to have changed and not that I even knew what the previous bakery was but know about the amazing cakes you can find here. Other bakeries have failed me in so many ways until I walked into Honu Bakery as I was looking for something different and no didn't order any cakes though did a lot of searching for a special cake that just bring smiles and of course is yummy. As soon as I walked in there is this tiny display case that was filled with cakes there were some slices and whole cakes one is a Hello Kitty cake and the other is a Bunny Cake at about 6"-8" in size which was just perfect and just so adorable I couldn't believe it! Decided on the bunny cake and told them it was a birthday so if they could add something for me which the staff was just a delight to do so. As I wait for my cake to be boxed up I browsed around this super cozy bakery which is pretty small though do offer quite the impressive assortment of pastries which I did purchase some for mom as she loves to nibble for snacks with her tea and this "Walnut Ball" sounds just like the items she enjoys and having it come with two makes it a great for sharing as well lol! As I was done and ready to check out to see it's all ready and they added some candles on it as well...gah! Ahhhhhmazing!!! They added a "Happy Birthday" on it which sounds so simple but it bougie up this super cute bunny which everyone enjoyed as it wasn't too sweet just a nice delicate flavor, I really wished I took more pictures but know that I will be back as this place sure know how to make your occasion special. Went in for a last minute birthday cake and luckily they had these cute dog and rabbit cakes available in multiple sizes. The lady was super nice and helpful explaining what all the cakes were and even offered to put a special happy birthday message on a chocolate leaf. The cake was delicious and not too sweet. They also offer a variety of other baked goods similar to other Asian bakeries that looked delicious as well. There are a few seats inside if you want to hangout and relax too. read more

Came in on a Wednesday afternoon and was happy to see the shelves were still stocked with yummy pastries. I highly recommend getting the Portuguese egg tart. I ate 1.5 on the way home because it was that good! Its crust is flaky and the egg custard is soft and flavorful. I also enjoyed the banana pudding. It's almost as good as Magnolia's in New York. Their blueberry cream cheese bun was ok. Also, their iced Thai coffee (we asked for less condensed milk and syrup) was good and bold. The overall space is bright, clean and organized. One thing that could improve is their customer service. The workers didn't seem so happy to be working. We had several questions since we were new customers and they seemed like it was a bother to answer our questions. One girl was wiping down the glass display case and window while an older woman was struggling to open the front door. The worker could've stopped wiping to help open the door but she didn't. Other than that, I would return here even if just to buy more Portuguese tarts. (No food pics cuz we were so hungry) read more

The Honu bread is light and delicious. I bought the marble cake too. It was a little too sweet. I was tempted to buy a cupcake, but I couldn't bring myself to pay for almost $7 ($5.99 or $6.99) for a cupcake. But I guess it's not totally their fault. The egg prices are probably driving up the prices. I did buy the coffee cookies though. They are one of my favorites! But the price did go up also. I guess we can again, thank the egg shortage for that too! read more

I'm not sure if they've changed owners within the last 10+ years, but it definitely wasn't as bad back then as it is now. My dad recently brought home some pastries from here - Japanese cheesecake, cinnamon toast bread, tiramisu, banana bread, etc. All of them were dry and almost tasteless. I literally took bites out of all of them to try and immediately tossed it. It sucks because it was such a waste of money and I love bread. Their cakes are cute, but I know there's other better bakeries with cute things that also taste good. read more

I'm not sure what they put in their peanut butter cream but it is to die for if you're a pb lover like me!
