Blueberry milk bun and ham and spinach bread pudding
    Bethani E.

Love their sweet and savory pastries. Had the ham and spinach savory bread pudding. It was soft and creamy with the cheese and egg as well. Really well balanced flavors and a good size for a breakfast treat. Also, grabbed the blueberry milk bun as well. Fresh blueberry, light breaded bun sprinkled with powdered sugar. Just the right amount of sweetness. Everything is made with care and intention. Delicious!

The blueberry milk bread, is the reason I jumped on yelp after eating this because it was good. The pastry is soft!, the custard not too sweet, generous with the blueberries. Large piece, and I ate it fast. It was individually wrapped, so perfect if you want to save any leftovers.

This little bakery is a block away from Iolani Palace and has the most wonderful pastries. I stopped in to quench an afternoon sweet tooth craving after seeing great reviews on Yelp. There were about three cases filled with scones, tarts, savory and sweet rolls, everything looked fresh and amazing. I had a hard time deciding. The clerk was friendly and anxious to serve. I love key lime and I selected a slice of key lime tart. The tart was incredible with dense key lime filling, whipped cream with a bit of lemon curd. The combination was fabulous. The crust was flaky. There are several table outside to eat on the patio. A small corner with gifts (cards, artisan pottery and more) was on the north side of the small shop. I'd go everyday if I was closer. Worth a visit. I found street metered parking about a block away.

Beyond has been one of my new go-to places when in the area! One of my favorites is their mushroom/balsamic vinegar/parmesan pastry. I never thought I'd like the combo but it's really good! There's is a sight crisp from being backed which pairs perfectly with the mushroom. I love how they have new things to try all the time. Their IG also shares the daily specials which I find very helpful. The shop is located on Alakea St right next door to the Chinese restaurant. Just look for their fence~ you won't miss them.

10/29/25 Spinach and Ham Bread pudding

Part 1 of visit... I bought two things- a classic Ensaymada and a spinach and ham bread pudding. 10/29/25 Wednesday. About 10:45/ 11:15am. I hadn't thought about this place when I first discovered it two months ago, but because I was coming from Kakaako and got off the bus in town right next to the Supreme Court, I figured you know what I'm gonna walk over there and I discovered there was a huge amount of people that do go in there, which is a great thing for their business and they really had some nice stuff. The board that was outside. The door really had a noted amount of things that possibly was made for the morning and I think they ran out of two or three things by the time I headed in because they probably sell out on a lot of the good stuff, but I did manage to get the last classic Ensaymada. (Made for the Filipino week celebration) has buttercream on top cream cheese, and sprinkles with sugar and shredded dried coconut. - in some places called: "Desiccated coconut" This Ensaymada is light and perfect.. it's that croissant with a lovely lively lifted look. As if it took happy pills to look and taste so wonderful! If you were to have this Ensaymada it has to be on a saucer plate where you were set in the middle town cafe of Paris haute couture district and they would give you a fork and knife.. they WOULD NOT- forget to give you that fork and knife cause you would get embarrassed bitting it to by using your hands.... (Some foods actually taste and look better with a fork and knife) this is one of those pastries... it's was definitely a treat to have chosen that Ensaymada. Note on this Ensaymada- I was lucky to have chosen that last Ensaymada because a gentleman before me also mentioned it was his first time like my first time going into Beyond pastry Studio... and he let me take that last Ensaymada on the tray so thank you - the gentleman that works in downtown Honolulu for letting me buy that Ensaymada. The spinach and ham bread pudding. Well, it's worth its weight in deliciousness. I definitely would buy that again just for lunch. It's quite the bite and savory that one can really enjoy. if anybody has tried a quiche Lorraine just imagine that as this thing in a very compounded type of mini loaf, that's what this was. It had an extra extraordinary taste. It fell just like a Lorraine would if you were to bite into one, and it was very good - excellent very dense. I would highly recommend it if somebody needed a quick bite for lunch I'd buy that again .... There are a number of things that I would've liked to have tried also and it is highly recommended that if you're in and around the downtown area to try these pastries from Beyond pastry studio, it is certainly in namesake Beyond just your typical pastry - Ensaymada hot couture Café and spinach and ham bread pudding like a compound quiche Lorraine Highly recommended!!!

    Yum!

First time visit to this pastry venue. As a first timer, I went for one marquis pastry: the Classic Ensaymada. Wow! Fabulous pastry, light fluffy pastry base with a delicious cheese topping! Service is at the counter, by the display case. I was behind several who were getting pastries for their office. No worries. Two clerks were on hand and moved things along nicely! No dining in here. So I took my pastry to a local coffee shop.

Beyond what I expected... This cute little bakery has always caught my eye whenever I park at Alii Place Parking Garage which is right beside them and on this day I was going to Honolulu District Court and when I was done you know that I had to grab some treats for taking care of some adulting errand. Walking into this super tiny bakery you're instantly greeted by a staff and a couple of large display case filled with various baked goods and it was my first time so I had no idea what I really wanted but felt the vibe to be quite pressured as the staff was staring at me as I was browsing felt a bit uncomfortable but knowing I wanted something I just made a quick decision which the first was the "Parmesan Balsamic Mushroom Roll" to which he asked if I wanted a box and said yes to which asked how many did you want...feeling dumb I said "5" which is the total amount of pastries I wanted but not knowing as I was eagerly deciding he put iff of the Mushroom Roll in the box to which I added more items like Blueberry Coffee Cake, Ham and Cheese Roll. You'd think I'd question a $37 total for just five items lol I didn't and just paid and be on my way and wondered why it was so heavy lol! Well I brought it to work and we all agreed that it was quite heavy and rich after a couple of bites it was difficult to finish.

I have been here several times for pastries. They are the best on the island. I asked why it was so good and they told me they don't use any preservatives and everything is made from scratch daily. You can park right next door at Alii Place parking garage. They also have baking classes sometimes. My daughter took a class and made some amazing pastries.

A cute little pastry shop right next to Alii Place! Perfect for breakfast if you work downtown. I stopped by using the grace period for the Alii Place parking garage. There's a few tables outside of the shop, but only one is under cover if it's raining. I ordered the Rachel's Jalapeno Turkey Roll, Parmesan Balsamic Mushroom Roll, and Umami Biscuit. My favorite was the Parmesan Balsamic Mushroom Roll. The balsamic acidity paired perfectly with the parmesan cheese and bread. The jalapeno turkey roll was okay. I felt like the bechamel was overpowering and the turkey was barely noticeable. Same with the umami roll. I wish it had more umami flavor. The cheddar cheese and konbu flavors weren't shining through. The selection and flavor combinations all looked delicious! I definitely need to go back and try the other pastries! Maybe get a little sweet treat for myself too.

There is a comforting feeling being in a Filipino bakery. In the Philippines, bread is often eaten for breakfast and snacks, so bakeries are a cornerstone. Their soft, slightly sweet bread is often flavored with ube, coconut, pandan, cheese, and sugar. Beyond Pastry is a tiny bakery doing fun twists on classic pastries. The familiar ensaymada comes in ube and seasonal flavors. Today, it was guava cream filling every part of the generous spiral. Their version of "danishes" is a milk bread bun for the base with a topping. Blueberry is a regular and today's seasonal flavor was lilikoi. This bun is tall, so the ratio is more bread to toppings. If you prefer savory over sweet, Beyond Studio makes savory breads such as parm and balsamic mushroom, pesto eggplant pizza, and furikake hotdog that pack a flavor punch. I appreciate their unique flavor combos and these were just as tasty reheated the next day. It's best to walk there if you can. If you drive, the closest paid parking lot is next door at Alii Place. And make sure to go early to secure your goodies!

Beyond Pastry on Alakea Street just celebrated their 4th anniversary with some of the most wonderful selections. Friday's are always loaded and heavily stocked. On this anniversary day there were even some selections I had never seen before! ...Calamansi meringue danish: get outta here! ...Pandan coco choux: please please please do a repeat of this one! Hahah. Loved the celebration of a few other popup businesses in the courtyard. Such a festive Vibe worthy of this celebration. Looking forward to the next 40 years of wonderful and innovative offerings by Cristina and team. Thank you for feeding us so deliciously!

I finally visited Beyond Pastry Studio, and this bakery definitely did not disappoint. Since my first visit, I've gone back four more times within a week and a half. It's located in Downtown Honolulu on Alakea Street and is truly a hidden gem in the area. On my first visit, I had to go all out and let my eyes do the picking. I got the chocolate epicurean cheesecake with berry compote, an ube ensaymada, a parmesan balsamic mushroom roll, and a hotdog furikake roll. My favorites were definitely the parmesan balsamic mushroom roll and the hotdog furikake roll. The bread was incredibly soft with each bite feeling like a taste of heaven. On another visit, I tried different items like the Nornay cheese bun with bacon and potato, and their haupia chocolate brioche. Both were a hit for me. I've mostly sampled their savory pastries, and what impressed me the most was the consistent texture of the bread across all the pastries. It's soft, but not too airy, with a satisfying bite. That's one of the main reasons I keep going back. If you plan to visit, it's right next to Honolulu Seafood Restaurant on Alakea. The sign isn't too obvious from the street since it's tucked in the inner corner of the building. You'll know they're open when you see the gate doors open. The inside can get crowded, as there's limited space, so lines often form outside. I don't think there's indoor seating, but there might be a few tables on their outdoor patio. As for parking, I don't believe there's street parking nearby; the closest options are paid parking lots in nearby office buildings. The staff was very friendly and made sure we were attended to right away upon entering. I can confidently say this is one of my top bakeries on Oahu. They offer a great variety of sweet and savory pastries. They also host Filipino Pastry Fridays, featuring treats with Filipino-inspired ingredients. Some pastries include the pandesal pork and ulu adobo nest, the malunggay pesto eggplant pizza roll, and the longanisa feta Danish roll. Such a great way to represent Filipino culture! I'll definitely be visiting more often, especially on Filipino Pastry Fridays!

Mango tart, lilikoi scone, chocolate cake
    Sydni K.

Picked up a variety of pastries from here around lunch time. There were still a handful of options left, but there were items that were sold out as well. I loved the balance of both sweet and savory items. It's a little hole in the wall shop on the right side of Alakea St, and I wouldn't have known about this if I didn't work nearby. We got the blueberry coffee cake, savory bacon pastry, chocolate cake, lilikoi yuzu scone, and mango lime tart. My favorite was the savory bacon pastry followed by the coffee cake. I loved the top part of the coffee cake. The scone was a bit dry, but I did like the flavor of the frosting. The tart was a bit too eggy for me. The chocolate cake was good, but I would not consider it cake. I'm pretty sure it was flourless because it was super dense and moist. It was good but not what I was expecting when it was labeled as cake. Overall great pastries, and I love that there's something for everyone here. My coworkers and I shared these pastries, and I think all of us had different favorites. Definitely would recommend coming here if you're in the area!

Hubs had to fast from 6 am for his 2 pm surgery so I thought he would probably be starving and would enjoy a delectable salt and butter roll from here. At $4.50 a piece I consider this a luxury for us. I found a close stall in the parking structure. A very cheerful polite male employee took my order. I had seen two occupied tables as I walked into the shop. Both had matcha drinks. Why not? I asked the young man assisting me, what's the best matcha drink? It's a cute little shop with benches facing the windows to people watch. It was hard to pick one item, but I ended up trying the Char Siu Croissant. I loved the flavors combining the sweet glaze and the savory meat. It's now one of my go-to weekend treats!

I love Pipeline Bakeshops Malasadas! I have been to several Malasada places in Hawaii but | love…read morethere's the best for the following reasons: 1. the size of the malasadas: some restaurants tend to make their Malasadas smaller and when places do this it ruins the overall texture and quality of it. The bigger the malasadas size the more airy and fluffy and more bread layers that will be inside. 2. their malasadas always taste fresh and the same quality each time. 3. their malasadas don't feel oily or heavy at all Overall I would highly recommend this place for their Malasadas! I'm so happy to have found them. I can back multiple times on my trip. They also have other desserts too that I have yet to try. They have ice cream, cakes, and other desserts Also tip: if you are ordering a malasada also order a coffee or a matcha drink to go with it. The cinnamon sugar from the malasada just matches so perfectly with a drink this restaurant is also a nice place for walking! There's lot of stores and restaurants to walk around! I'm trying to remember but I think there was a book off that was not too far from here! If you either drive or maybe walk. Service: staff was super helpful and friendly while I was there. I was having an issue with my online order because my phone was being glitchy and they were so nice in helping :) Also wanted to note their branding is so cute!! They even sell merch items too

Everyone knows to go to Leonard's for freshly made malasadas, and the constant crowds there attest…read moreto their quality and variety (review: https://yelp.to/jaduiZfQRq). However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. FOOD - 4 stars... the malasadas were good, but that ube dessert was next level AMBIANCE - 4 stars...really a takeout operation with a lot of temptations SERVICE - 4 stars...very calm and orderly TOTAL - 4 stars...yet another spot for sweet Hawaiian decadence RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Table for 11 the morning after the 4th of July without a reservation? What, like it's hard? You…read morecan't make reservations here, but they do have an iPad that you can be added to their waitlist. Even though it was rather busy, we were seated within 10-ish minutes and got their biggest table outside. And right next to their butter roll grill- score! We had 11 people including kids and teenagers and there's really something on the menu for everyone here. Even my picky nephew was able to find a milkshake and add an egg to their ham and cheese croissant. I got their mahi mahi breakfast and upgraded to get their fried rice. Mahi mahi might not sound like a breakfast food for most, but it's one of my favs that I used to get from their OG location and I hadn't had it in so long. And that's the best thing about Liliha Bakery, there are so many local favorites that you can get any time of day. My mom got the oxtail soup (I got a bit of plate fomo from that). The rest of the table got breakfast classics: pancakes w/ a side of spam, 2 eggs + bacon, steak and eggs etc. The butter rolls here are so good and love that they come complimentary but I do believe there's a charge after the first basket.

Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. Our waitress seemed to be having a rough day. The table behind us had to send food back three different times because they kept receiving the wrong orders, and there was about a 30-minute period where our server completely disappeared. We had to ask another staff member for our check and to-go boxes. She also never came back to check on our table or refill our water. Everyone has off days, so we're hoping that's all it was. We'd definitely come back because the food was so good--we just hope to have a different server next time.
