Early bird gets the worm. I've been to 85°C Bakery Cafe Ala Moana (85) multiple times and just realized I haven't written a review yet. This store had its soft opening in October 2022 and has expanded to another store in Kapolei August 2023. 85 hails from Taiwan and started business in 1984. They offer quality baked goods using Asian ingredients such as taro, mochi, sesame and pork sung (floss) and boba. There's also an extensive list of hot and cold drinks you can get here. There are over 1000 locations internationally with most of them in Taiwan and China. They can also be found in Hong Kong, Australia and USA. Like most bakeries, limited quantities of baked goods are offered during the morning and highly recommended to come here earlier in the day for a better selection. Most of my visits are sadly in the afternoon after work but my last visit was memorable. My friends and I just got through celebrating a friend's birthday at a nearby restaurant where on the way back to my car I made a pitstop to here. As expected the shelves were quite bare with limited offerings but they had what I wanted: marble taro. I had just eaten dinner and was full but picked one for the road and paired it with a taro lavender latte. I literally had no room in my stomach even though over an hour had passed since I got home so I had the roll and drink for breakfast the next morning. The marble taro roll was just as good as I remembered. It was soft with a nice texture contrast with the creamy, mashed taro paste in between. It had just a good amount of sweetness where I could indulge and not feel guilty. The star had to be the taro lavender latte which I didn't have high expectations for. I like to sample drinks with lavender as I do enjoy floral essence as it's not offered at many places. I had requested my drink to be 50% sweet, which was the right decision as I need to watch my sugar intake. Service was above average. It wasn't busy when I arrived so the line moved quickly. The guy at the counter was energetic and courteous which made my experience there pleasant. It was past 7pm where there were some people utilizing the dining area but it was quiet. 85 can be very lively during peak hours with heavy foot traffic. Overall, I'm a fan of 85 where I'll be sure to stop by again. Just need to be careful as my numbers for sugar and cholesterol are being monitored and I'm currently on medication. read more

7/9/26 I was at a recent meeting and the host brought a box of goodies from the Ala Moana location. I have not visited this location yet so this review is for the food only. In the box were some mochi egg tarts. At first bite, OMG, it was delicious! The tart is the same size of the ones they sell at dim sum restaurants. Crust is nice and flakey, filling is mochi, and topped by a layer of egg custard with a brow sugar glaze. The combination of the mochi with the egg custard complemented each other nicely & making me want more. I will definitely check this place out the next time I'm in the area. They also have a Kapolei location. From their website pics, they have a lot more goodies & I'm sure it'll be hard to decide which ones to choose. read more

It's been 3 years since my last review and visit here that I thought I'd update. The pastries here are just as good as when they first opened. I thought i'd just buy one or two pastries but i bought six. Yes all six just for me! For lunch i got a jalapeño cream cheese pastry and a cheese hot dog. Both were great, the jalapeño cream cheese pastry has jalapeños inside that are quite hot but blends w the cream cheese really well. I enjoyed it. I also got a hokkaido custard pastry which was nice, light and fluffy and not too sweet which I liked. I also enjoyed an ube pastry with an ube filling on the inside. I thought the chocolate chip bowl was interesting, powdered sugar fills the middle of the pastry so it looks like a bowl, this pastry was a little more dense and not as light. Lastly i got the cream cheese pastry with the round blobs of creme cheese on the top, a bit sweet with the sugar crystals but so good, Make sure to check the app, i had a buy one pastry and get one 50% off coupon. Beside the pastries and breads they have a beautiful selection of cakes, teas, and drinks . My personal favorite is their Egg Tart and the Spicy Sausage Roll. This month's Specials include the Strawberry Salted Butter Bread and the Macadamia Tart. Both were delicious . Excellent customer service. I like the layout of this Bakery. As you enter there's the drink station to your right, straight ahead is the bakery and refrigerated section and then the checkouts. They also have a cozy area to sit and enjoy your drinks and pastries. Definitely recommended especially when you need a break from your hectic shopping trip. read more

My go to drink is their Vietnamese Coffee ( coffee can be strong to those who never had viet coffee before) with sea salt cream or jasmine green tea with sea salt! Taiwanese bakery here at Ala Moana center below the restaurants section. They have variety of baked goods that it is so difficult to choose. But yesterday was the first time I bought their cake and man the Black Forest Cake was so delicious and not overly sweet per my in laws. I also remember when my best friend bought me cake for my birthday, strawberry chocolate cake which also was just enough sweetness but not too much. As I'm late to the 85C bakery party, my general thoughts are that the bakery is clean and nice, items are fresh and tasty (mochi custard tarts and pineapple cake) and service is quite professional! I also had a pretty strong iced Americano! Bakery is Japanese style with a Chinese twist. You either pick up pastries on a plastic platter and pay at the register while ordering drinks or you go on their app and order ahead of time. If on the app, the order will be ready at the left side of the bakery. You can order cakes at the register too. It may get crowded later so try to get there early if you are looking for mango custard or some other specialty. If you park on the uncovered 3rd floor parking lot floor of Ala Moana (mountain/Diamond Head), it's the closest to Macy's but below the Hookipa terrace restaurant floor. read more

85 Degrees in Ala Moana Shopping Center is located on the 3rd floor, near the restaurants and across the parking lot from Target. There are a small dining area available for customers or mall patrons which is nicer than the store front-only spots. Currently, they are doing a Strawberry Festival special, where you can get a free magnet with a purchase of 2 strawberry drinks. I got their strawberry matcha latte (3/5) with an added espresso shot since I needed the caffeine boost. The drink was okay, I think the Strawberry de Leche drink would taste less generic considering it seems like a strawberry milk drink. I only came and purchased the drinks for the magnet which was super cute but also smaller than expected (approximately size of a quarter-ish). Drinks were meh but I like that they have seasonal specials like this to make it interesting. read more

Stopped in for a quick treat and everything was so good! The iced matcha latte was perfectly balanced -- smooth, lightly sweet, and not overly bitter. Super refreshing and just what I needed. The taro filling bread was soft and fluffy with a generous amount of creamy taro inside -- subtly sweet and so comforting. And the sausage pastry? Buttery, flaky, and savory with a juicy sausage center that made it impossible to eat just one bite. Such a yummy combo of sweet and savory. The mango cake was so soft and creamy, light and fluffy, contrasting with the sour, sweet & crunchiness of the fresh mango pieces-it was heavenly delicious and achieved just the perfect amount of sweetness. This bakery is popular on the continental US and it was in So Cal when I was first introduced to 85 Degree C Bakery. This bakery was born in Taiwan so the actual eateries are pretty much French Asian, that is if there is such a classification of baked goods. In addition to their loose pastries and cakes, they bake their own bread. The bread is pretty darn good! They have coffee and tea beverages as well. The service is pretty straight forward; pick your pastries, take your tray to the cashier, pay for it and off you go. The beverages however is not quite that simple. I went on a Saturday morning around 11 am and it wasn't busy at all. I was able to pick up a fresh Ham and Cheese croissant. I also got a Vietnamese iced coffee. It came with strong coffee which I liked, I did think it was too sweet though. I asked the girl at the counter if I could make it less sweet and she said no and that they could only add more ice. I would order it again if I could get it 1/2 sweet. The ham and cheese croissant was delicious though! It was buttery and perfectly salty, I would come back again just for that. It was $4.25 I believe. For my coffee and croissant it was a little over $10. I would return again when at Ala Moana mall. read more

Life is so much sweeter with fresh pastries and breads. Come get yours at 85°C Bakery Cafe in Ala Moana. I got an iced Vietnamese coffee. It's a strong espresso with condensed milk paired with a sliced of their blueberry cheesecake. Not a good combination but I definitely enjoyed the strong espresso flavor in my Vietnamese coffee. He got Tiger Milk Boba with a sliced of Tiramisu Cheesecake and Red Velvet cakes. Also not the best combination but each was delicious by itself. The place is huge and filled with amazing fresh breads smell. They also had lots of tables and chairs for customers. Once you walk in, you can choose your fresh breads and pasties then stand in line to make a purchase. You can also grab your sweet slices of cakes and drinks. This is our first time here but I'm only giving them a 3 stars because the staff was not clear about our drinks. I came up to ask one of the staffs for our drinks and was told they were going to call out our numbers. So I went back to our tables and 5 minutes later, a staff delivers our drinks. Thank you! BUT we were also told this next time we need to grab it ourselves and that it was only going to be delivered this one time. Now we don't have any problem getting back up to get our drinks IF they had called our number. Please be kind to your customers. Don't scold them. They didn't pay for that. It's also not nice. We came here for dessert yesterday night after dinner at Liliha Bakery. We shared a mango coconut smoothie $6.35 and a piece of mango brûlée cake slice $4.75. I haven't been here in a while and had forgotten how good this place is. My hubby actually recommended we come here for dessert and I agreed. I'm so glad we came. I didn't even know this place existed till I came here with my daughter and SIL. It's a pretty large space, just mauka of Ho'Okipa Terrace and Romano's, right by the roof parking lot. Is a self-service Japanese style bakery with coffees, lattes, and boba drinks. They also have an app that you can use to pre-order your items for pickup at the first counter, right as you enter. Otherwise, you can stand in line and order at one of the open stations after getting your items from the self-service bakery area. The selection is pretty extensive, for both bakery and beverages, and the prices are about average. The entire area is clean and nicely designed, with cold a/c, and a feeling of spaciousness. The actual bakery appears to be on premises, in the back of the service counters, so the food items must be fresh. We just came here for refreshments after having lunch, but it's a place that deserves a revisit for desserts. read more

I ordered the Mango Strawberry Smoothie at 50% less sweet and the Liliko'i Ice Tea at 50% less sweet. The smoothie was delicious and you can taste the mango and strawberry! I think I could've ordered it 75% less sweet lol. It was still pretty sweet. 4/5 stars On the other hand, the Liliko'i tea was on the tart side and refreshing. 4/5 stars Both drinks are refreshing and well made. However, I found it way too salty for my taste. This bakery is large and has a number of tables and chairs to sit down and enjoy your delicious pastry, dessert and drinks. Let's start with the good. Their bake goods are reasonably priced for the quality. My favourite are the mochi egg tarts. Their drinks are not bad just like most boba tea shops on Oahu. It's clean and has some seats for people to dine in. The staff is friendly and nice. However, I had a negative experience in pre-ordering a birthday cake. While I still go back to buy their breads and egg tarts, I don't pre-order any cake from here. The good thing is I have not had the similar negative experience in pre-ordering a birthday cake from other bakeries. :-D read more

Located at the Ala Moana Shopping Center, you can find 85° C Bakery by the escalator just downstairs from Romano's Macaroni Grill. The bakery is spacious, and there are quite a bit of seating within the bakery should you buy their baked goods & decide to eat within the bakery. The day I came here, I was basically here to purchase a slice of cake for a friend, but I easily got sidetracked when I saw the egg tarts that they had in their display case! Lol! For those that know Bruddah Fran & his custard, the egg tarts are like my crack! Lol! I must say 85° C Bakery egg tarts are F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.!!!! The egg custard was creamy and not too sweet, and the tart crust was so buttery deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious! Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I literally visit this place once a week and maybe twice a week so why has it taken this long to post a review???? Even single piece of baked bread in this joint is top tier.. we weren't too wild about the cakes but my son SWEARS he only eats tiramisu from this place.
