Came here for my birthday dinner while visiting Maui. Started with a cocktail (Bees Knees) and a dozen oysters. Then I had the diver scallops and my husband ordered the fish special, which was a snapper dish, and everything was delicious. We were pretty stuffed by the time dessert rolled around, so we got the macarons which were the right amount of sweet but light. They come with one each of pineapple, salted caramel, and strawberry. All of the things that we tasted were so delicious and balanced. It really feels like a lot of thought and effort goes into each dish. We brought our own wine for this dinner, and they were very accommodating about it, but we probably didn't need to as their wine list is great. When I say that our table was right next to the ocean, I mean RIGHT next to the ocean. The water was about 2 feet away from us! We even watched a couple guys hop onto their water taxi to get back to their boat. Overall, it was an amazingly wonderful experience and we will definitely be back. read more

Since losing our all time favorite Lahaina Grill before our last visit in '23 we heard the chef moved to Honu, so we booked a reservation. First of all the service was top notch and the setting was amazing for our sunset time slot. Picture doesn't really do it service. We ordered cocktails along with a Caesar Salad and Ahi Bruschetta. Both were great. Main courses were the Filet and fresh caught Mahi and Shrimp special. Again, both were great. Dessert was the Butterscotch Pot and Chocolate Mouse cake. While everything was great, for me the Caramel Pot was the top dish of the night. Overall I would say the food was notably fresh, cooked perfectly, and nicely plated. Wish I could remember the name of our server, as she deserved a callout for being both helpful and on top of everything. We did notice one of the owners chatting tables up. What a truly beautiful experience. Dinner during sunset was absolutely magical. My husband and I visited the island to celebrate our marriage, and we were hoping for something unique--something that still offered the charm of the island while feeling special and elevated. Honu delivered in every way. From the moment we sat down, the service was impeccable. Our server was attentive without being overbearing--our water glasses never dipped below half before being refilled, and the cocktails kept coming. The White Lotus was my personal favorite, followed closely by the Kula Colada--both were tropical perfection. For appetizers, we indulged in a half dozen oysters, shrimp cocktail, Ahi Bruschetta (to die for!), grilled Spanish octopus, and the Filet Mignon Carpaccio. Each dish was beautifully presented and even better tasting. For our main, we shared the Diver Scallops--so buttery and tender, we were literally fighting over the last bite. To close out the night, we split two espresso martinis, soaking in the final rays of sunset with full hearts and even fuller stomachs. Honu isn't just a dinner spot--it's a full experience. This place fired on all cylinders! First off, I have to praise our server, Jolene. She did an amazing job and her smile was infectious. As far as the ambience goes, the moment you walk in you feel a vibrant energy. The decor is subtle yet elegant (ie the doors to the restrooms). We ordered the cornmeal fried oysters for an appetizer, I had the diver scallops, the rest of the table ordered a mushroom pizza, the peppercorn crusted filet, and the burger. My friend said it was the best burger he's had in the island. I was able to taste the filet which was mouthwatering. It had the perfect amount of sear for a nice crust. My scallops were cooked to perfection with a nice sear on the outside, and soft and silky on the inside. Kudos to the chef and staff here. Well done! read more

We had a very well prepared three course dinner this evening. Two well done cocktails, one was the special at the time. Seemed like the bartender personally brought us the cocktails. Started with a shrimp cocktail for each of us, we then had the ciopino and the grilled octopus. Dessert was creamy butterscotch (it was delicious), topped off with cappuccino and a glass of port. If I had to describe this place in one word... it would be WOW. I visited Monkeypod the other evening, and I spoke to someone who mentioned the Chef from Lahaina Grill works here, so of course, I had to check it out. A bit of background - I've been coming to Maui for 15+ years, visiting once a year, and always watching my parents enjoy Lahaina Grill without me or my siblings. It was their special place. I only went three times myself, and now, with my father passing three years ago and Lahaina Grill burning down, finding out this Chef is still around truly made my heart smile. Now, onto the food! We ordered the Ahi Bruschetta, which melted in your mouth. The clam chowder was perfect - just the right consistency and plenty of clams and potatoes (I can't stand it when there's not enough potatoes!). I had the fresh fish Dore-style (I forgot which fish, but it was hands down the most delicious thing I've eaten on Maui). We also tried the peppercorn-crusted filet mignon, which was fantastic. For dessert, we had the coconut banana crème pie, which was good, but I prefer pie from elsewhere. There were other desserts on the menu that I'd love to try in the future. My only tip? Skip the cocktails and bring your own wine. The corkage fee is worth it - the drinks are a bit on the pricier side for me. ;) Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here. This restaurant has a stunning ocean view, and we started off really enjoying ourselves. We sat at the bar and ordered a grapefruit martini and an old fashioned, both made by Annabel. She was fantastic--skilled, welcoming, and genuinely great to talk to. Her service set the bar high. We had the octopus appetizer--wasn't our thing. Texture was off, kind of boiled and mushy, so we didn't finish it. The Ono fish and chips, though, were excellent. Fresh, crispy, flavorful. We were already planning to come back the next night to try more. Then came the issue: another bartender named Gee, whose attitude ruined the entire experience. A nearby guest asked her a simple, respectful question about how the Lahaina wildfire affected the restaurant. Gee responded with sarcasm, attitude, and zero professionalism--then just walked off mid-conversation. She came across as bitter and completely disinterested in serving customers. Here's why that hit hard: Our original trip to Maui had been postponed because of the fires. We wanted to be respectful and give the island time to recover. Even from afar, we donated to local families and animal shelters, hoping to help in any way we could. And for us, this is personal--we've been directly impacted by California wildfires. We've been evacuated. We know the stress, the loss, and the emotional toll. So when I tried to relate and show empathy, Gee couldn't have cared less. No acknowledgment, no human decency--just cold, checked-out attitude. It honestly felt like she resented having to deal with tourists at all. Which is ironic, considering tourism keeps places like this alive. If you work in hospitality, you should at least act like you want to be there. Because of her, we canceled our plans to return and went to Mama's Fish House instead--where the staff were welcoming, respectful, and clearly proud of what they do. This restaurant has so much potential--great food, great drinks, and people like Annabel who truly understand service. But all it takes is one rude, bitter employee to ruin it. This place was more than I could've imagined. We went for my partner's bday and have had trouble finding good food on any of the days we've spent on any island so this was such a win. The ambiance was perfect with sitting right on the rocks to the ocean and the sound of crashing waves to through dinner. Our server was exceptional and so friendly and timely . Now for the food We started with half order of oysters and they are hands down THE BEST oysters I've ever had and i loveee oysters . Almost went back the next day just for an order but was too late . We then shared chopping along with Spanish octopus and a random side of mashed potatoes that I needed. Everything was just absolutely amazing! The Spanish octopus was flavored so well and the Cioppino fully delivered. We were hoping to get some good seafood so if that's you searching you 100% won't be let down if you dine here. The cocktails were also top tier while I don't drink my partner got their signature old fashioned and he said it was one of the best he'd ever had. One of the best meals we have ever experienced. We ordered the Ahi Bruschetta, which was melt in your mouth, the soft shell crab, that had the best crunch with a green sauce and fresh jicama/cucumbers, the chefs special of Mahi Mahi with risotto and shrimp, and the coconut cream pie. I also ordered an oyster shooter that was very flavorful. The flavor palette of our meal was excellent. Each dish brought a different flavor mixture and its presentation was beautiful. We were sat by the water and enjoyed listening to the waves crash on the shore right next to us. Our waitress, Jordan was wonderful and very knowledgeable on the dishes. Our waters were always topped off by another gentleman who was very friendly and polite. Beautiful views from the table, especially after the sun goes down and they pull on the privacy screens. Food was excellent. My filet has a great crust and yet was very tender. The sauce tasted amazing. And they give you a lot of it. Usually I leave wanting more sauce, this time was not an issue. Green beans, carrots and potato were perfect sides. My wife loved her scallops. 3 large scallops. Mushrooms were great. My son had a large plate of French fries, lol. They were also very tasty. The butterscotch pudding dessert thing was excellent. Our server Astrid was new. She is going to do very well there. The is soft, very kind. Took a little time to talk to every table. Gave us some information about different beaches. Highly recommend her. We usually tip 20% for good service. We gave her 25%. Chit chatted with the owner for a few minutes after we were done. Very nice guy. After a really disappointing experience at an (overly) high rated golf club, we had a really nice experience here. Our seating was 12' from the water, the ambience is a classy white and black, but casual enough to feel good in nice shorts. For the appetizer we had the burrata and it was the best we've had since visiting Italy 8 years ago. The crisply toasted but very thin bread was a perfect accompaniment with some sliced almonds and raisins. My wife had dungeoness crab salad that was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of horse radish to complement but not over power the dish, and the crab medallions were perfectly formed and arranged. I had a special of a local fish on corn risotto with a beurre blanc and roasted sesame seeds that was perfectly balanced to taste each ingredient. We topped it off with the banana cream pie with toasted coconut that let the fruits bring their own sweetness to the dish without a bunch of sugar. The service was excellent, including the bus people who were very attentive in clearing the table and keeping waters filled without being in the way or obtrusive. Of the 6 places we ate, this is absolutely the best and most memorable. It's a bit pricey but was the one place I can say was worth every penny. read more
