We went in this restaurant simply because it's close to our motel. We were surprised to find their big parking area full. We were greeted warmly when we walked in, got seated immediately although the place seemed packed already. It was Saturday before Mother's Day. We ordered patron margarita and mango margarita. Drinks were sooooo good. We were given a big basket of chips with a small bowl of salsa as soon as we got seated. Table is clean. Bar is big and robust. Two lady bartenders were busy but cheerful. Food were served in no time at all. Big servings!!!! Our wait staff checked on us several times. Nice!!! Food is reasonably priced. I'll definitely will come back.

I visited this restaurant as part of a family road trip because it seemed appealing according to Google maps. While the service and experience were excellent, the food itself was expensive, bland, and over-salted. We entered at a busier time, during dinner rush the night before Independence Day. It's absolutely worth noting that the service was still very professional and attentive throughout the complete experience. The tables were also clean and well laid out--seating our group of 10 was not a challenge. We found our first issue with the value. Whereas Google showed $10-20, this is pretty much impossible with the dinner menu, especially with a suitable tip considered. It's hard to find anything substantial on the menu listed less than $18 or so. The fact that the meal ended up being smaller than most restaurants like this left us feeling like we spent more than we should have, especially considering the food. The cuisine itself was tolerable, but you could make better food at home with just a little practice. The consensus around the table was that the food was pretty salty and bland. Additionally, the Ixtapa Burrito that I ordered didn't have any vegetables inside it, just rice, beans, and chorizo (which I requested for protein). It was adorned with salsa, sour cream, and guac, but those didn't really make up for the lack of fillings. Where's the lettuce? Pico? Sautéed onions and peppers? I wholeheartedly believe that anyone could make significantly better food in their home kitchen with little effort, and because of that I'm inclined to give it a 2/5 rating. However, due to outstanding service and welcoming atmosphere, I think I can justify 3/5 overall.

As the name clearly states, this is a great family restaurant. Lots of seating, but comfy booths, wide variety of menu items, kid friendly options and affordable prices. You can bring the family or the hang and have a hearty, satisfying meal without breaking the bank. After an exhausting day, we were hungry and wanted as casual place we could dine at without first having to go home and change. After driving by Ixtalla so many times and observing that the parking lot was always full, we figured it would be a safe choice. Chips & salsa were quickly brought to the table. Always wondered why Mexican restaurants don't provide small dishes - it would prevent the salsa from dripping all over the menu and table! Plus, we need more than one napkin. OK, now back to the review! Margaritas came next in super heavy glasses. Not a fan of the super sweet syrups, I requested a skinny Margarita on the rocks which is made with fresh lime juice and a splash of orange. This is the way to go! The drink was fresh and delicious! We split an order of steak fajitas which arrived sizzling hot. Thins strips of streak grilled along with onions and peppers. On the side was pico di Gallo, guacamole, sour cream, fresh tortillas, and rice & beans. It hit the spot! My only criticism is the steak was completely well done and would have been tastier if cooked medium. Service was in point. Water glasses continuously filled. Checked in frequently - one could argue way too frequently - and everyone was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely come back when wanting a fast, satisfying and affordable meal. Maybe even sit at the bar, when that is permitted again. Plenty of parking on their very large lot. Located across from Walmart for those needing a point of reference.

Very nice atmosphere Friendly service Good food This is such a nice atmosphere with beautiful decor all around. It appears clean and well set up. Great for a couple or large group. Even on a Saturday evening we were seated right away. Our server arrived quickly to take our drink orders and after just a short wait returned with our drinks to take our food order. There was a much longer wait for our food to arrive than expected but everything was served together and came our sizzling hot. We ordered both the chicken fajitas and a molcajeta. Both were flavorful, hot, served with many sides and tortillas. The chicken in the fajitas could have had twice as much seasoning but turned out ok with all the sides offered to add to it. We plan to return to try other dishes next time we're in town. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a family friendly Mexican restaurant in the area.

The current rating of 3.5 stars is spot on! What I like about this place is I never have to wait for a table, this place is huge. Service is fair, they will take your order, bring your food, and the check, not much follow-up. We had to flag someone down to get additional beverages. Overall the food is good, not great, not bad. I ordered a flauta, crispy taco, and a side of guac. The guac made the food so much better. They serve complimentary chips and salsa, but the salsa is a bit too spicy for my palette.

We enjoyed our meal. Ixtapa is a very large, clean restaurant with a large menu. I had the chicken en mole which was very good. The prices were standard for this style of restaurant. The service was very good as the staff kept the drinks, chips and salsa coming throughout the meal. We'll definitely be back when we are in the area.

We ended up coming back the next day without hesitation for 2 days of tacos in a row and I'd return in a heartbeat if ever back in Hood River. These tacos are addictive! With their mix-and-match fusion menu, your taco of choice can really taste any way you like. The Hawaiian taco with grilled shrimp was my favorite, but I also enjoyed their Thai taco with chicken. I wish I could have tried all of them as everything featured good, fresh ingredients. Don't skip the drinks here either. I usually avoid cocktails but they offered to make their frozen margarita spicy for me and I couldn't resist -- fantastic! The service was over-the-top amazing. This is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter, seat yourself with a number, and wait for your food to be delivered. Service at such establishments is usually pretty perfunctory, but not at Love & Hominy. The servers are all super friendly and seem genuinely enthusiastic to be working in their restaurant. That in itself says a lot. As mentioned, this place is casual but still fun and eclectic. While eating your tacos in-house, check out the wall on the entrance side. It's pretty entertaining to look at.

Love & Hominy is a rather small restaurant in downtown Hood River, seating only perhaps 25 people…read morein a mixture of tables and countertop seating. It's a brisk business, so while ordering is counter service style, the tables turnover quickly. When we visited at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon, there was a small line ahead of us to order, but only around 5 minutes or so after we ordered, several tables cleared out and we were able to sit down. The food took about 15 minutes to arrive. Combo, Vietnamese w/ Pork, Mediterranean w/ Chicken, Salsa ($15.50) - The chips, half moon shaped, seem to be fried in house, being really thick, great for dipping with no breakage, and perfectly crunchy. They have somewhat of an oily sheen on the surface, but aren't overly greasy at all. They aren't salted too heavily and instead seem to be slightly sweetened. The salsa included in this meal is refreshingly tangy and creamy. It's completely mild, though, with no hint of heat whatsoever. The chips easily dip in without getting soggy. The tacos all seem to use the same base - a fried corn tortilla heavily seasoned with a doritos locos-esque spice mixture, then filled with tender basmati rice. I believe they store a bunch of tortillas filled with rice sitting in trays, which can then be grabbed off the shelf to customize to order. That would explain why the shells get completely soggy and why the sauces are all applied on top of the rice rather than below. They are also wrapped in aluminum foil, which allows the rice to basically steam inside the taco shell, creating more sogginess. Overall a disappointing base. The Vietnamese combines fish sauce and banh mi pickles, combined with sweet creamy kewpie mayo drizzled over the rice and thinly sliced cucumbers as a second wall complementing the taco shell. The pickles and cucumber are crunchier than the shell. There are jalapenos but there's no heat at all. The pork is shredded and tender with a somewhat smoky quality, but there's not much included at all, perhaps only a tablespoon or two of meat. It's mostly vestigial against the massive amount of pickles on the top. I'd say the flavors are somewhat similar to a vegetarian banh mi. It's definitely missing in the meat department. There are so many veggies piled onto this taco that things fall out left and right while eating. The Mediterranean includes acidic pickled onions, a slaw lightly dressed in vinaigrette, thinly sliced cucumbers, a bunch of salty feta, and shredded mint leaves. There's some tzatziki drizzle, but not enough to make a huge impact. The chicken is shredded very finely and again not given in enough of a quantity to really do much for the taco. I feel like the chicken is precooked white meat, similar to the chicken in those packaged salads. Combo, Thai w/ Chicken, Tex Mex w/ Shrimp, Queso ($15.50) - The queso is served warm. It's thick and cheesy, tasting like pretty standard queso with again no heat whatsoever despite tiny flecks of red. The Thai includes a red bell pepper, cabbage, and edamame (why edamame?) slaw, lightly dressed in a peanutty and sweet vinegar. On top of the rice is a thicker peanut and ginger drizzle, enough to give some freshness and boost the umami. The overall flavor profile does remind me of an Americanized Pad Thai with mostly sweetness and nuttiness and no tamarind fruity tang. The Tex Mex is interesting. They actually char the corn quite well, so it's sweet and smoky in flavor. They add the same queso as the dip for the chips, then cilantro and then soy bacon crumbles, which I found to be disturbing in texture, almost like crunchy egg shells. They do include three or four pieces of sweet shrimp which aren't overcooked. The seasoning on the taco shells doesn't work for me. The flavors clash with the unique ingredients used in the creative tacos. In addition, I'm so confused why they use the same rice base. I guess it's a cost cutting measure? They add a ton to every taco and it spills out all over the place. They could easily amp up the unique qualities of each taco. For example, cilantro rice for the Tex Mex, Jasmine rice for the Thai, vermicelli for the Vietnamese. It's okay to use rice, but it's just such a boring and uninspired base when they are trying to be so creative with the flavors. It feels like filler used to cheapen up the tacos. I have similar feelings towards the meat. It's the same for every taco, no uniqueness in flavor or texture. The only thing different are the toppings and the slight bit of sauce on top. Just think - for the Vietnamese, sweet lemongrass grilled pork, for the Tex-Mex, lime chile grilled shrimp, etc. Then again there's so little meat included in the first place. Overall I left a little disappointed. It seems to be targeted towards people who want fusion food without straying too far away from Americanized roots. It's just not for me. Full Sail is a very well respected micro brewery, founded in 1987 and the first craft brewery in the Pacific Northwest to bottle its beer. It's flagship Amber has won numerous awards, including recently in 2025 a Gold Medal at the NY International Beer Competition (along with the brewery being named Oregon Brewery of the Year). It has a large line-up of beers brewed inhouse There is a large paid parking lot across the street at $1.25 per hour, payable via credit card through nearby kiosks. Once entering, there is a long hallway, walking past the working areas of the brewery, until getting to the restaurant area. It has views of I-84, and further the Columbia River. The outdoor patio was not open (drizzling outside), and it was pretty crowded inside but we got lucky to be seated at a table near windows with a view. There have lunch and happy hour specials during weekdays. The lunch special is 1/2 of a sandwich (grilled cheese this day) along with a cup of their soup of the day (tomato). I was super excited about the Amber, so got a pint of that ($8) and pint of the Queen Wheat ($8). My wife enjoyed the Queen Wheat but didn't care for the Amber. I really liked the Amber, making me realize why I had drunk so much of that style earlier in my life when in Wisconsin, before switching over to wheat beer. There selection of beer is great, and a flight is the way to go ($18 of 6 5oz samplers). Buffalo Hot Wings ($17) - a decent amount of simply deep fried hot wings in a classic Frank's red hot buffalo sauce. Pretzel Bread Sticks ($13) - 4 large, warmed pretzels. Should have gotten the beer cheese to go with it. Salmon Fish & Chips ($20) - 3 small pieces of beer battered salmon, very dense and definitely tasting of wild caught salmon. It came with good fries and a really good, fresh cole slaw. There is a small refrigerator stocked with cans of certain beers for sale. Unfortunately, we were dismissively told that they were out of the Amber bottles for sale. So after our meal, went to the front to purchase directly from the front staff. Their Japanese rice beer from their Session lineup ($10 for a six pack) was available and what we brought back home with us.
