I really wanted to like this place. I watched as they refurbished the place in hopes that a good restaurant would come in. We tried this restaurant the first week it opened. The tables are too close together and we were crammed in a corner table so tightly that my back touched the patron behind me. Still we had hopes for the food. I tried the quesadilla appetizer and thought I should have gone to Plaza Mexico next door. The entrees were only a little better. Given that it was the first week I decided to give the restaurant a second chance. Unfortunately, this week they did not fare much better. Although it was a weekday and the tables were mostly empty, the hostess sat us beside the only other party in the room. Once again we were crowded. We arrived late but still with a half an hour to spare before the kitchen closed. We ordered our dinners and unfortunately they left a lot to be desired. I had the jambalaya which contained a sloppy joe like soup with only tomatoes no other vegetables. It was passible, but certainly not worth the price. My daughter's lobster roll was burnt on both sides of the bun as were the brussel sprouts she ordered as a side. The worst part was at 9:45 as we finished up our meals, one of the kitchen staff walked out into the restaurant and shouted at the waitresses, " It's time to wrap it up!" We were the only patrons in the restaurant so clearly he was talking to us. We were already on our way to leave but now we definitely felt unwelcome. I will not be going back. read more

We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were asked if we would like to sit inside or outside. We have a baby and it was 90 degrees out, so we asked if there was a wait to be seated inside. The hostess kindly told us there was no wait she just needed to clean off a table. Awesome. So we step aside while she goes to clean the table. Before the hostess returns, a group of 4 people walk in led by a woman who must visit often as she was greeting each employee by name. A few minutes later, the hostess returns to take us to our table while the woman interrupts her to tell her they have a reservation for outside but want to sit inside because the deck is a little warm. The hostess takes a look at the seating chart, then calls over 3 other employees and they all whisper back and forth for a minute. The hostess then turns to us and says "It looks like there is going to be a bit of a wait". WHAT?! My husband, trying to be polite, asks how long the wait would be. 45 minutes. So because this woman came in with a reservation for an outside table and decided to change it to an indoor table before we could be seated at the last available indoor table that was just cleaned off for us- we now were being asked to wait 45 minutes. No thanks. Terrible customer service. I understand you cannot control rude, arrogant, demanding customers. But giving our table away to someone who CHANGED their reservation after the fact was the absolute worst way to handle the situation. We will never step foot inside this establishment again. Highly recommend The Plaza Mexico restaurant next door though! Seated immediately and food was served within minutes of ordering. read more

The food was great! Cute little place in north beach. The only thing I didn't care for was the lack of space between tables. I got the crab cake sandwich and fries and tried the macaroni and cheese! Had the pasta special with sundried tomatoes, spinach, shrimp, and a sauce with just the right amount of kick and it was fantastic and a great portion. The drink menu is extensive offering a large variety of specialty cocktails as well as local beers. I was really excited to try this place- it looked like good food and a great atmosphere! I went on a Friday night so it was somewhat busy and we sat outside so that we could be seated faster. The hostess was pleasant and it seemed like a good choice to eat here. We got seated outside, ordered drinks and dinner. Over 20 minutes our waitress checked on us four times, promising to bring drinks out and forgetting each time. (She seemed like she was on drugs, sadly). I ordered chicken tacos which had no flavor at all and were very dry. I swapped fries for maple glazed Brussel sprouts- they gave me 3... and they were cold. We also waited at least 45 minutes for our dinner to come out- the table across from us, which was seated after us, got their appetizers and meal before we got our dinner...I appreciate good customer service and a friendly waitress but this just was not the case and not good food. I wouldn't recommend Hook and Vine until they work out these kinks. read more

What an amazing place! Left my home in NC for Hurricane Florence and I am staying with friends in Chesapeake Beach. They took me to their favorite restaurant, Hook & Vine and it was so amazing. We had the crab bruchetta and a few amazing drinks to start. The drink menu is amazing and are delicious! The fresh crab and balsamic on the bruchetta was done perfectly. For dinner I got the fresh catch of Mahi blackened with a side of fries and maple glazed brussel sprouts. It was outstanding as the fish was fresh, cooked and blackened perfectly and all sides were so flavorful!! I also tried the Cajun Pasta a friend ordered and it was so flavorful and the shrimp were huge and tasty, it has a good spice to it! Everyone loved their dinners and even the kids cheeseburger was a great size and quality. I can't wait to come back! Also, Matthew the server was outstanding and all the wait staff!! Our water was always full and we never had to ask for any refills as he was on top of everything. The decor is also done very well and it is such a welcoming place. read more

Excellent restaurant. The service was great, lots of good options on the menu. We had two appetizers at our table, and they were exactly as advertised. The lobster tempura with vegetables was delicious, as were the BLT deviled eggs. Our entrees were excellent as well. Good wine pairings, and the front porch is dog friendly- always a plus for us. Great atmosphere. We had a crowd, 13 and a dog on the lovely porch on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was great. Some of our crowd like to mess with them and she messed right back. From appetizers, lunch and dessert everyone enjoyed their meal. Would definitely recommend. Outstanding! Very good Lobster/Vegetable Tempura, great spicy twist on Shrimp and Grits and excellent veggie pasta. Executive Chef came to the table to introduce himself and chat. This restaurant has only been open a week, and it shows. Having said that, the southern fish and chips which features blue catfish is a keeper. My wife said the crab cakes were tasty and reasonably priced. This location has been the home of three short lived restaurants, but I feel that this one will last if they can get over their initial hiccups. read more

Our experience at this place was awesome as a first time patron. We live in the local area and believe this will quickly become our go to place. The fish tacos were fantastic. Visited Sunday, May 19th. Had a reservation and was seated quickly. It seemed reasonably busy but also well staffed. Our waitress was very pleasant and we received our drinks in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered a red Sangria and did not think it was very good-I am a Sangria fiend and order them frequently when I'm out. Our apps took a little while but were delicious when they came. We ordered the shrimp and an order of deviled eggs. The main course took a while with over 5 minutes time difference between when my food came and when my husband's came. He ordered soft shell crab and thought it was fine. I ordered a crab cake and it was ok but compared to some other restaurants in the county it's not my favorite. I feel the same about the Mac and cheese I ordered for a side. It was fine, but not great. It seemed like the table behind us also waited a while for food and I overheard the waitress apologizing multiple times. Overall I would go back and give it another try and sample some other menu offerings. read more

This apparently is the new place in town. The atmosphere is charming and the menu 'looks' right and appealing to people who will spend a little money on dinner. But the place is out of control. They cannot handle the volume of people that come down to the beach for a summer weekend. We were first seated in the bar table area next to a group of 3 women and a man who were drunk off their butts, shrieking and pounding the table. Good fun, yeah. We asked to be moved and got put out on the porch then were promptly forgotten. We had waited 20+ minutes for the first table, then 45 minutes after placing our order, we were about to walk out - it was after 9 pm and we were starving, so were going to look elsewhere. Well a server walks out and puts 2 truly pathetic looking plates down in front of us. On my plate - count 'em - 3 spears of wilted, gritty-looking asparagus, 5 brussel sprouts cut in half (so 10 pieces - supposed to look like more!), and what I would estimate was a 3-oz piece of dried up salmon that looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while. And I think they were charging $20 for this??!! My dining partner's dinner was no better. We asked for a manager who was either completely overwhelmed or frankly we thought might have been under the influence - in any event, he was speechless. didn't know how to do a thing. We put down some cash for the 2 glasses of wine we'd had an walked out. Truly an unpleasant and disappointing experience - perhaps as a new place they need to get the kinks worked out, but we won't be giving them another shot any time soon. read more

I have been to this place several times and it hasn't been bad. I decided to take my husband there for our anniversary . Every time I have been there I ordered the crab cake with Brussel sprouts and fries. Ordered the same thing this time. The Executive Chef was walking around talking to people. When he came by our table my husband was talking to him about his meal as he has some dietary issues. The chef told him no problem. When our meals came as soon as I looked at mine I knew it wasn't right. The crab cakes didn't even looked cooked. I took a bite they were cold and mushy and not cooked. I sent them back. 20 minutes later the chef brought them back out. They looked no different . The chef said they were cooked the was they always have been 15 minutes in the oven. I said I had ordered these several times here and they were cooked different . I told them I didn't want them. He said he would send the Manager over. 20 Minutes later I ask the waiter to get the Manager. The manger Matt came over and said he was aware of the issue and the kitchen told him that the crab cakes were cooked the way they always have been. I ask him if he saw the crab cakes he said yes, I said do they look cooked to you. He said yes. I ask him if he tasted them , He said no, I said there is no way those crab cakes were cooked I tasted them both time. He said I will take them off your bill. I said well I hope so I didn't eat them. He went to walk away. I said Oh at this point you just want us out of here so your other customers don't hear. He said no and walked away. No I'm sorry, No can I get you some things else, NO can I buy you a drink, NO let me get dessert on the house. The manager need some lessons on how to treat customers. After all the reviews I read I felt the need to give this place my very first yelp review. This place was so much better than expected after reading what I did on yelp. I got the blackened mahi-mahi mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The fish was amazing. I'm not sure why people said it was flavorless. Perhaps because they ordered it grilled rather than blackened. Also as for the size my husband ordered the same and it appeared his was far smaller but u must remember it is based on weight. We also ordered the BLT deviled eggs and they were truly amazing! I do wish more than 5 came to an order but it's an app so it's understandable. It was me and my husbands 10yr anniversary and they came to our table at the end of our meal to offer us a complimentary dessert. Two managers at different times came to check how our meal was. I was very pleased with this place especially after reading other negative reviews I wasn't sure how our experience might be tonight but it was definitely above par. read more

I was so excited to try this restaurant, as I knew it had just opened. We went the Friday of their opening week, and it was one of the worst experiences ever. We had reservations for 7:30, and got seated promptly, but the table was way too small and was in the most crowded section, way too many tables pushed too close together. We couldn't maneuver around whatsoever. The restaurant also forgot that I asked for a high-chair for my toddler and that caused a lot of chaos as we couldn't move tables to accommodate that. It took 30 minutes for anyone to greet us at our table and I had to ask for a children's menu. When the server came around, we gave him our drinks, appetizers, and dinner orders. Drinks came promptly, but it took almost 40 minutes just to receive appetizers and another hour and half to receive our main entrees. With a toddler this was awful. We ended up asking for the food to go and left, as we could not wait any longer. It was also incredibly noisy in the restaurant, and I couldn't hear any one at my table talking. We decided to try Hook & Vine on Friday evening after months of waiting for their grand opening which was a few nights earlier. We arrived at 7 pm and were immediately seated. The server was friendly and took our drink orders. We decided on crab bruschetta and lobster bites for appetizers. Both were very disappointing. The crab bruschetta was lack luster to say the least with no flavor or visual appeal. The lobster bites were equally as bad. The presentation was poor in my opinion, and they just didn't live up to the expectation. After 3 beers, we were informed that the restaurant had run out of the brand we had ordered (Miller Lite) and our server wanted to know if we would like something else. We ordered 2 salads, a Caesar and a house salad. The Caesar was ok but the house salad was not as described on the menu. The menu describes it as mixed greens, cucumber, red onion, cherry tomatoes, egg, and croutons. My salad consisted mainly of limp baby spinach, a few pieces of old lettuce that was mottled with brown spots, and was yellow in color, 2 slices of cucumber, red onion , and a cherry tomato or two. There was no egg and no croutons. As for the rest of the food we ordered for dinner, I cannot tell you what it was like because it never came. After waiting almost 2 hours, our server told us the kitchen was backed up and they hadn't even started on our order yet. So we asked for the check and left.
