We came to Skipper's for the Mrs. Maryland Club sandwich. The last time my wife and I were here, we remembered just how delicious this sandwich was, so we decided to make the trip back. We arrived around 6:30 PM and were surprised to see the parking lot pretty empty. We sat at the bar and were greeted quickly by the bartender, who took our drink order. Both of us ordered the Mrs. Maryland Club, which is made with shrimp salad, a crab cake, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich arrived fairly quickly and looked good, but right away we noticed something seemed different from our last visit. The biggest disappointment was the size of the crab cake and amount of shrimp salad. The last time we were here, the crab cake covered the entire sandwich and shrimp salad was falling off the sandwich. It was one of the reasons we remembered it so fondly. This time, the crab cake was noticeably smaller just a little bigger than a golf ball the shrimp salad was just 7 baby shrimp and the chips I got maybe 12-15 chips and half of them were rubbery, overall the sandwich just didn't seem as substantial as we remembered. The little shrimp salad had good flavor, the bacon was cooked nicely, and everything tasted fresh. It just didn't live up to the memory of our previous visit, not worth $21 for sure. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. The atmosphere was relaxed, and as always, the waterfront location is a nice place to enjoy a meal. Overall, the Mrs. Maryland Club is still a good sandwich, but based on our experience, the portions seem to have gotten a lot smaller. We'll likely return again, but we hope to see the sandwich brought back to the size and quality that made it so memorable the first time. read more

If you are in Deale Maryland and you want a great dinner, then you need to go to Skippers Pier. This place delivers great and fresh seafood in a nice clean dining room with very good service. It is not particularly fancy but - really - when you are sitting at the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay, do you need white tablecloth fancy??? I sure don't. I just want great food and that is what I got at Skippers Pier. We both started with crab soup. My spouse had the cream of crab and I had the dynamic duo (half cream of crab and half Maryland crab soup). Delicious! Maybe a little salty but awfully good! My main course was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! A very large piece of pure solid rockfish covered in a beurre blanc (lemon) sauce and so much crab meat that I could have made an entire crab cake out of it. And all of this was sitting on top of 2 fried green tomatoes that served as the perfect foil to the luxurious seafood. Crispy and a bit tart. Beautifully balanced on my tongue! A real home run. My spouse had the crab cake dinner and it was huge. All backfin lump crab meat and perfectly seasoned! His onion rings were among the best we have ever had. Crispy on the outside and plenty of soft onion inside, without too much grease. Another home run! The dining room is huge, maybe too big, and the noise level is rather high. But the view of the Chesapeake was gorgeous. Our server, Gabby, was fast, smart, easy to talk to and very hard working. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat! Skippers Pier was awesome. It's a local spot, on the marina. They have plenty of parking but I feel like it's still not a enough on a busy night. They have dinning room seating, bar seating (inside and pier side) and outdoor seating (pier side and on the roof of the pier bar). Plenty of space to accommodate large parties. I found this place because of the fried green tomatoes and they did not disappoint. The tomatoes were full of flavor and topped with some delicious shrimp salad. We ordered the chili orange crush wings. They were big!! The flavor kept me saying "these are REALLY good". For the main course I went with the snow crab steamer and a side of applewood bacon collard greens. First of all, I should have ordered two of the collards. I was finished before I knew I had started. They were cooked just right , gor me! The potatoes that come in the steamer met the same fate, buttered seasoned goodness. Service was friendly and fast. A recent visit included rotten coleslaw, limp frozen-not-fresh shrimp and stale bread on a poboy, and Maryland crab soup ruined by poor quality canned veggies. When it was delivered, I asked for something, and the server said something sarcastic. Ten minutes later I didn't receive it. Two other servers in the area were oblivious to the fact we were not eating. They were on their phones. I went to find the manager, and she was on her phone. From the pictures, you can see all that was ordered. I loved the crab dip with the pretzel bread and the crab crusted oysters. I also ordered the dynamic duo which to my disappointment came out cold. It wasn't even lukewarm. The whiskey sirloin was cool too. The grapefruit crush was yummy. Just has a lot of pulp. My second visit was much better in October. Been coming to Skippers Pier for years. Have always enjoyed it, including the brunches - until today. Disappointing! Food cold to lukewarm. The blue crab Benedict was tasty, if a little cold. Ordered a Bloody Maria and got a mix of bloody Maria and Bloody Mary. Drank a few sips and told the waitress. She took it and returned to inform us that there was old bay added by mistake and it was a bloody Maria with celery (not supposed to have celery). They wouldn't remake a full drink but would add 2 inches. I assume they would poor it into a new glass without the old bay rim? Terrible customer service experience. Still up charged for the María. Sadly we will look for a new spot next year. read more

This was a nice little getaway from the city. We were here mid-afternoon on a Saturday, and while we were seated immediately, we did use overflow parking. Service is slow, but that wasn't an issue because we knew that prior to visiting. Our server was friendly and so were the hosts. Our food was good. Can't go wrong with a burger and a chicken sandwich. I loved my sandwich. Drinks weren't great. Definitely watered down and flavorless, making this a future skip if wanting cocktails. 1st I have to give our server Hunter all the praise! He was fantastic! We had a reservation for 10, 14 showed up. We were celebrating a birthday and Hunter did not miss a beat! To give kudos - the fried food at Skipper's is excellent. But if you order anything else you might regret it. For example: shrimp and grits . . . and collards. The collards are loaded with sugar - like, at frosting levels. It's a Yankee thing that ruins them. Be warned. Another warning: The description of the shrimp & grits in the menu makes no mention of BBQ sauce. But when it gets to your table it will be drenched in it. Nothing obliterates the flavor of shrimp like sweet, commercial, tomato-based BBQ sauce. If I wanted a bowl of warm BBQ sauce I would have made one at home in the microwave. If you want to taste shrimp at Skippers you will need to order the fried plate, because you sure won't taste it (or the grits) under all that BBQ sauce. Food was good. Vibe was nice. Near the water so it's super chill. Drinks were delicious and our server was nice! The oysters had mud all over them which was a first for us- we weren't fond of it. And they were kind of stacked on each other so the mud got into the oysters a little bit. Without the mud they would've been great! We went to Skippers last night for Valentines dinner. It was amazing! We had a few of the special Valentine's cocktails before dinner and they were excellent. The bartender Kristy makes awesome cocktails and serves with a smile! We had the shrimp prosciutto and oysters chesapeake to start, followed by the brie salad and lobster bisque. It was all amazing! The salad was so good, with a beautiful poppy seed dressing. We had the orange butter scallops, with potatoes and a cauliflower beet purée which was absolutely delicious! My husband had the filet and crab cake. The filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the crab cake was excellent, almost no filler. But dessert.... wow! We tried the Tres leches chocolate cake and the Passion Fruit Panna Cotta. AMAZING!!!! Best desserts that I have ever had out in restaurant. This is the second "special event" I have attended at Skippers recently. I went for the Wreath making evening in December and had an amazing experience with my girlfriend. It is great to have a restaurant down here in Deale that offers these special nights out as well as consistently great food for a lovely dinner any night of the week. Skippers is not just for crabs! It is locally owned by a young couple who couldn't be any nicer and very much care about providing quality food and service. We drove down to Deale & had lunch today for our first visit to Skipper's Pier. The rainclouds were just clearing & the sun finally came out. Country musuc was blaring from the speakers inside. We ordered two glasses of Pinot Grigio, two soups (one Maryland crab & one cream of crab), and two salads. The bill came to $75. The Black Eyed Susan salad was pretty tasty. We were sitting by the wndow. They can slide open the doors to outside, which they did half way through our meal. The breeze was strong and it had not warmed up much yet, so the chilly wind hurried us along to finish. I was also disappointed about a miscommunication with the manager, as I hoped to accomplish another errand today. Even though she knew I was coming and I confirmed two days ago, I was told I would need to come back. The restaurant is about a half an hour from Annapolis, so I don't think that I will make it. Wonderful experience! The location was a bit remote for me but well worth the drive on this rainy day. My colleague picked the location and the service and food was great. We ordered a dozen large crabs and they were full and delicious. I had the corn on the cob and it was sweet. We shared Hush Puppies and they were good too. That was my first time having corn in them. The drinks were made perfect. I didn't care for the bread pudding and they may wish to rethink the recipe. Our waiter was awesome, and he was Very attentive to our needs and came over to check on us often. I throughly enjoyed my visit and the views are spectacular, if you love the water. My mojito made up for it though!! I had the crab cake sandwich with Chesapeake chips it was pretty good.
