Holy smokes! I LOVE this place! Have been here twice now and both times, this restaurant knocked it out of the park in every way possible. First of all, the ambiance: it's beachy, light and fun. Plenty of indoor AND outdoor seating with lots of close parking spots even though it's in the downtown area of the town. The way the tables are set up provide for an intimate setting and it's just q great place for dining. Now let me tell you about the food/drinks: happy hour is from 5-7 everyday and you can get house wines for $2.75 a glass! They have a decent selection, too! They have a fresh catch of the day every day and the first time I came it was the triple tail and I ordered it and I LOVED it!! So delicious! On my second visit I ordered the tacos! On Tuesdays they're two for $6.50 and they are SO good! Blackened mahi with delicious seasonings - I feel like I'm in Heaven! And saving the best for last: the service. The employees are friendly, accommodating, and on point with recommendations, expediency, and making you feel right at home. Quaint no frills cafe near the beach. Excellent caesar salad, fried seafood, and gumbo. Their gumbo is one of the best on the coast and Im born and raised in New Orleans. The rice is a little al dente or possibly basmati which is random but the overall flavor is on point. Service is just ok, dishes will sit on your table for the whole dining experience and refills arent happening too quickly. Flies can be an issue but I blame that on the location not necessarily cleanliness. Prices are reasonable. read more

I was with a military reunion group for lunch. Our organizers recommended this restaurant. We sat in a separate dining area, it was raining and we were all soaked. Wednesday is apparently a busy night with $5 burger night. You won't find them on the menu but they were a popular item. Even with a busy night the service was good. The appetizer was timely coming out and the food was excellent. We also got the Parmesan breaded chicken and it was very tender. It was very (completely?) full inside when we showed up for dinner so we opted to sit outside. It was very hot out but with the shade and the fans it was tolerable and it was our choice to sit outside. Three of us had chicken and one had the catch of the day. The one who ordered catch of Thebes had several questions about the fish and suggestions on how to get it prepared and the waitress answered his questions knowledgeably. The food was good but just kinda lacking seasoning and *pop*. Need some of that Chef Emeril BAM BAM BAM action. As another member of my party described it thusly, and aptly, it's fair to say the staff seemed.... Distracted. One person didn't get a refill on their beverage (remember we sat outside and it was 90+ degrees out). We were supposed to get salads with our entrees (at least I remember the menu saying so....) but nobody got a salad. And we ordered a side of fries for a picky eater but they didn't come either. We had to remind the staff and they did eventually bring them. I'd give Hook another shot if I'm down that way again but I'm gonna be watching the staff to make sure things get taken care of correctly. read more

Hook is located right in the center of quant downtown Pass. I came in for lunch around 11:30 and it was practically empty but most people don't know that lunch is the best time to go! They have most all of their same menu but much cheaper. There are great happy hour specials each day of the week as well so either way you get a great meal at a reasonable price. The cuisine is American Seafood with Cajun flair. The menu isn't particularly unique but what they do, they do so well! The Tuna Sandwich is phenomenal! The fried goat cheese croquettes paired with the pickled onions, mandarin oranges and grilled chicken deliver a complex layer of flavors that have me coming back for more. I mean it's fried cheese people. Need I say more? Fish tacos are bomb. I prefer mine fried but if you're trying to save on the kcals, stick to the blackened version. They're just as good. I'm a fan of Hook. The MS Gulf Coast is a special place. Each little town on the coast has their own unique downtown that's slightly different from its neighbors. Downtown Pass Christian is smaller than LB or BSL and much of it is contained in the same area as Hook. Hook shares a parking lot with a hardware store, two other restaurants, a froyo shop and other businesses. The spots are fairly wide, but if you are a lunatic about your car, there is also a lot across the street with less cars. Hook has both an indoor seating area and an outside patio. The patio is covered so it remains comfortable unless it is surface of the sun hot. This trip we sat inside and found it to be well appointed, comfortable, and there was plenty of room between tables. Service was friendly, but at times very slow. The food ranged from very good, to great and was a good value when compared to other places in the area. The meal started with fries tossed with truffle oil and Parmesan cheese. This seemed like a pretty straightforward non-fancy dish, but boy was I wrong. Those fries were awesome. I ordered the buffalo shrimp as my main course. I might of liked a tad more buffalo sauce, but the shrimp were large, fried perfectly, and delicious. The bread had a slight crunch like real po-boy bread should and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More sauce and it would've been even better. If you're in the Pass for lunch, I think you should add Hook to your list. read more

We have eaten here on a pre-COVID trip, and had a decent experience, so tonight it seemed to be a good choice for takeout. Food was available quickly- within 15 minutes of calling the order in. This is a definite plus. I agree with the previous reviewer who mentioned how limited the menu is. There are only a handful of dinner choices, and we were informed that they do not offer poboys for dinner. This seems to be a big loss of opportunity. My husband had the gumbo, which was definitely flavorful and worth it. The kid's chicken was also fine in the critical eye of my three year old. I had the seafood pasta, which was underwhelming. The "sauce" lacked dimension; it had a heavy lemon flavor and not much else taste. The "seafood" name really should just be "shrimp". Other than three very small clumps of crab meat, there was only shrimp in the dish. The crab that was present all contained pieces of shell. All in all, it was fine to grab for a quick meal, but probably not anything we'd rush back to. read more

The posted menu was revealed as the LUNCH ONLY menu when we arrived after carefully selecting the dishes we wanted and this restaurant for those reasons. The Oysters Rockefeller's closest match was the dinner pasta by the same name for $26. The sweet, sweet bartender who took our order could not possibly have prepared us for what train wreck was to come. Fish tacos ordered for appetizer were mediocre at best but that oysters pasta was the rave in a horrendous way. There were about eight merely adequately fried oysters that served as my $26 dinner. The minimal salad was rotted, both greens and tomatoes, and the lemon vinaigrette was a bitter but otherwise tasteless gel. A huge bacon-topped BLOB of pinkish "sauce" topped the Oysters Rockefeller Pasta with spinach nowhere in sight. I was totally confused and as this was a take-out order, it was this or nothing for dinner. After the oysters were eaten, the remainder went INTO THE GARBAGE. This included the "ciabatta" bread that was the accompaniment to the order. It was a cute, round load of regular bread sent without a single bit of butter. It would have been nice hot and as a pre-dinner snack but not. As a ciabatta to accompany my meal. Someone made a killing $$$ on this order. The two items were over $45. Two small tacos and about eight oysters served as the provisions for our dinner. How disappointing. Run! In fact, our next night's dinner of two ENTRES AND DRINKS was only $10 more. It was superb and less than half a mile away (Bacchus). Wow! This meal was high on my worst meals ever list. Go to Radish or Bacchus or MCDONALD's for a better meal. read more
