I stopped by Hook for happy hour. They have some incredible deals. The servers were all very friendly and knowledgeable. My table was outdoors overlooking the beach, which was lovely! I ordered a lager, fish taco, and crab bucket. The taco was large and packed with fish and vegetables. The crab bucket was served with melted butter, and the legs were a good size. I highly recommend checking out Hook's happy hour!

Very cool and casual seafood spot right by the water with such a good Vancouver vibe. Tried the calamari and saganaki prawns, both were delicious and tasted really fresh. The view made the whole experience even better. Service was Great. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Vancouver after biking the seawall!

I have been to Hook a few times and can say that the food is excellent. I love seafood dishes so Hook is one of my to go places if I want to eat fish and seafood. The menu is great, lots of options to choose from and their cocktails are also quite good. I can recommend the oysters and mussels. Great taste, very fresh and original. Service is fast. I would recommend booking a table if you are more than two people. I always manage to get table by walk-in but it can be quite busy during the weekend so better book if you want a table.

I went here with some friends and it was an overall great experience. I like that they had valet, which was reasonably priced and much needed for the location of the restaurant. Nearby parking is hard to find. Service was great, and we were served quickly. Food came quickly as well, food was fresh and we had a good time. Our table had a young child, but waitress was respectful and kind to her as well. Prices weren't too unreasonable for the area. Will definitely come by again.

    Cajun Chicken - super dry

Come for the location and the house-made chips/crisps, not the rest of the menu. Mains were just okay, didn't even meet our already low expectations. Lobster Rolls (bun and filling) were disappointing; Cajun Chicken was super dry. Fries were good but extremely greasy. Chips/Crisps were very good.

A patio looking out over English Bay? You cannot lose. Hook is a seafood forward restaurant although there are plenty of other options. Our patio seat was incredible as we watched the sunset go down. First, I'd echos others in that the service was...kinda weird. It just didn't match the environment. Not all that attentive, and just off. Nice, but slow and odd. The food is a solid B. Healthy portions. My Cajun Sandwich was not dry but moist, helped along the way with avocado. Juicy bacon and fresh fries. That said the tomatoes were painfully unripe and the sandwich itself is on hard bread which made it a little tricky to eat. It's fully worth coming here for the location, and if they can level up the service and give the atmosphere more of a personality, this could be a long term gem.

10/10 happy hour. Calamari perfectly cooked and tender with crispy coated crumb exterior, heavy cream white wine and sweet onion mussels and clams with focaccia bread, candied bacon Brussels sprouts with honey and a delectable dressing, all at super reasonable prices. Mussels and clams all open meaning they were all fresh and the bread rivalled some fine dining restaurants. Service from Andy was 11/10 - he was literally the only server in our area and he worked his butt off running around trying to deal with all the tables. Despite that he had an amazing positive attitude and a customer first focus. They found out it was my husband's birthday and Andy gave us a off-the-menu secret desert. Warm peanut chocolate cookie with vanilla ice cream on a skillet! We devoured it. If you like bold creamy flavours and fresh seafood, run to hook seafood bar. Monday to Sunday happy hour! Finishes at 5.30 but check their website for updates.

I can easily say this was my favourite restaurant that I ate at while we were in Vancouver! It's in an amazing spot right on English bay and you get a great view. They have a pool table too. I made a reservation in advance and this was the only place that when we showed up they had our table ready for us to go! The oysters Rockefeller are amazing!

Chilean prawns (HH, CAD $15). Get this!!

At English Bay for the celebration of light and wanted to sit down and enjoy some drinks and food before joining the chaos at the beach! We made it just in time for the start of Happy Hour, which runs from 4-6 every day. Saturdays, they have tapped cocktails for $10 all day! We got the margarita and blackbird and enjoyed them both. You MUST get the Chilean prawns!!! These were frickin' fantastic! The shrimp was plump and sweet. That sauce though....make sure you sop up all that goodness with the perfectly grilled bread. 5 STARS! The Peruvian ceviche (3/5) was unremarkable and the avocado fries were bland and sad (2/5). Thanks to our server, Neil, who was great! We sat outside on the patio in the shade and we're happy to people watching before making our way into the crowds. 3.5 stars rounded up. Come for the drinks and an order of Chilean prawns...or two...or three!

Had a great evening. First time visit. Managed to get a patio seat with an ocean view for the sunset. Service was excellent ! We were checked on regularly by multiple servers and plates were cleared away at the appropriate times (which doesn't happen very often). Calamari and burger was good but personally I would have enjoyed a little more added flavour. Nice warm outdoor heating too. Thanks to everyone for a pleasant evening !

They're helpful, but not pushy and don't judge you in the way you know you're often judged by snooty oenophiles. A great way to buy wine is to taste it first, which makes Thursday (and sometimes Friday) the best afternoon to drop by Lennox. They host a wine tasting at the counter. While you're at the counter, look up ... way up on the shelves and you'll find a great selection of dessert wines from BC. Dessert wines (especially coveted ice wines) make excellent boozy presents. City Square might seem like a pain for parking, but there are several 15 minute spots off of Ash street outside so you don't have to go into the underground parking. When I got off the bus and so Granville I thought oh there used to be a government liquor store here surely the goodness serious at least a private one nearby. And so I found Jaks and it was a wonderful experience . Great selection, more like a baby LCB than a wine store or some of the other liquor Outlets just basically have a lineup of basically overly marked up pricing. I just drink something like polarize or silent Sam with low-cal cranberry juice on the Rocks but as a martini. I was able to purchase four bottles and the only markup was two bucks . Two bucks. After just paying almost $10 more for a 26 year Alberta vodka. And they actually wanted $44 for $28 bottle of Absolute Vodka. Upmarket gouging never sits well with me. So, while I still mostly by my vodka at a government store, when I want to just go out and have a lovely afternoon and bring home some wine and some vodka i zoom up from my little corner of Yale town by bus to the south Granville District and pick up my supplies . Upon first impressions, this is a small boutique sized wine store (we are in South Granville after all) that tries. It's a split level, the entrance (higher) level is wine, lower level (exit) is beers. There is a little bit of everything grouped by countries. A few bottles of each brand, and looks like a good mix of mid-priced to higher priced bottles. Appreciated the fridges lined with white wine. I imagine it serves as a good last minute "grab and go." I had a few minutes to browse before I was asked if I needed help. They didn't have the bottle I was seeking but the guy spent at least 5 to 10 minutes going over some other wines he recommended, taking my budget into account and asking other questions (i.e. was I looking for a specific varietal, region, etc.) He mentioned I could bring the bottle back if we were unsatisfied with the wine but I didn't ask how that would work... I would feel sheepish to bring back an opened bottle of wine. In the end I took a bottle that was recommended, within my budget, and though I had never heard of this winery before, turned out to be a great hit at dinner. Thanks!

There is a wine section in the back that offered bottle of reds between $10-$20. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, so the options were right up my alley. I went with a bottle of Cono Sur Bicicleta, a Cabernet Sauvignon (Wine of Chile 2012) for $14. It's medium-bodied, dry and fruity. You might find it cheaper at LCBO, but not by much. The label reads: A deep plum red with aromas of red fruit, cassis, black plums, and soft spices, together with a fruity, structured palate.
