I came for their Low Tide (happy hour) for some oysters and a beer. I sat at the bar and was greeted by an excellent bartender. The service is great here and the ambiance is kind of classy. I loved getting to watch the bartender shuck the oysters and grate some fresh horseradish on the plate. It was also really fun that they had a variety of sauces you could put on the oysters ranging from a mild mignonette vinegar and cocktail sauce to spicy hot sauces. The oysters that day were from Fanny Bay, so they were very plump and juicy! The addition of the fresh horseradish on the oysters added a really nice flavor with just a hint of the spicy kick you get from jarred horseradish. I was here for a business event. The place looks like a seafood restaurant with obvious emphasis on nautical gear throughout the dining space. Since the host ordered everything I don't quite remember everything we got. What we had was generally good, but also I thought to myself that each item was quite small, and hard to share evenly among the 7 people there. I remember looking at the menu after and thought to myself that it was quite expensive for very small portions. A number of guests were disappointed the restaurant only served beer and wine, and couldn't mix drinks. Service was good enough - friendly and interactive but nothing outstanding. Waited for 10 minutes to finally get greeted by hostess. By this time we were late for our reservations. Hostess took a moment and said she can set use but we had to leave by 7:00 giving us only an hour and a half to dine. Sat and got our menus, waited for a server to take our order and finally got one to do so. He asked what we wanted without writing anything down. After the 6th item he stopped us to get his ordering pad. First 4 came out fairly quick, then it kind of slowed down. We got the raw oysters 20 minutes later. Seems like the menu items are steady with minor changes We tried both the east coast and fanny bay oysters. they are very fresh and tasty. We also tried their happy hour halibut tacos and garlic prawns skillet. we love the halibut tacos. they were freshly fried and the selection of vegetables give a good contrast in textures. The sauce on the prawns skillet was a good addition to the prawns without overwhelming the freshness of the prawns themselves However the portion sizes are relatively small while the prices are a bit to the high end. We were seated, without a reservation, at a tiny table in the upstairs corner overlooking the oyster bar. The space is difficult to understand. It reminds me of a shanty on a remote beach somewhere not in Vancouver. I know it's odd to go to an oyster bar and not eat fresh shellfish but we were craving cooked salmon. Rodney's had it on the menu so we took a chance. The Manhattan clam chowder, which I was looking forward to was disappointing. I counted about four bits of clams. And my husband wasn't sure if he'd had any. That gives you an idea. It could have been saved had the broth been interesting. But it was a riff on spicy marinara sauce. Manhattan clam chowder is supposed to taste of clam broth in a mild tomato base that doesn't overwhelm the flavor of the clams. However it was also loaded with little bits of chopped bell peppers. Why? There were a few other bits of vegetables in it. I wouldn't order it again. We ordered the bread which had great sourdough flavor but it would have been tastier, imo, if it were at least, room temperature. The butter was not rock hard so that was alright. Creamy ale, which my husband ordered, lived up to its name, smooth without a bitter bite. The citrus salmon dish arrived without fanfare. It was delicious. The salmon was pan fried in a savory butter sauce that had a lovely mixture of herbs and seasonings. The fish was tender and moist. It was what I'd hoped. The spare vegetables, beet, broccoli, pieces of turnip and baby carrots were cooked al dente. The rice was fluffy and herby - nice. Overall, it was a good meal. I would have preferred to eat in a nicer atmosphere or at least without the music turned up to a numbing noise. But this is a bar first and foremost. Service was fast and efficient. We didn't need to ask for anything because it was already provided. There were no extra touches. I wouldn't return because it was too noisy but I would recommend it to anyone wanting to eat at a bar. read more

Wanted to try some good seafood out on our trip to Vancouver and saw this popular spot. Everything we got was amazing! We got a dozen oysters (mixed) to start. Definitely get these here! All of the oysters were so fresh and each different breed had a different texture. The Lobster and Shrimp rolls really surprised us! Don't let the fact that they are just sliders fool you. These were filled with seafood with the kicker being the toasty Buns doused in butter. Get these too! The clams cooked in a garlic, wine sauce was comforting. Make sure to grab some bread to dip into that wonderful broth (or drink it straight from the bowl). The clam chowder was hot and comforting; nice addition to the rest of the dishes. Loved their selection of hot sauces along with the horseradish. Deep fried calamari with some freshly sliced jalapeños. Crispy, delicious with just the right crunch of spice to offset the deep fried goodness. Of course we have to have their lobster rolls although it's on a brioche bun instead. Rodney's is the best spot for fresh raw oysters. They're always so fresh. I always get the Rodney's Caesar with freshly grated horseradish and their famous giant prawn - it's a great combination. I came into Rodney's oyster house on a Thursday night during happy hour and man this may have been some of the most delicious oysters I have ever had. They oysters were fairly big in size which I love, the freshness was absolutely insane. They tasted phenomenal. Being from Vegas we don't get to enjoy fresh oysters much so anytime I'm traveling I like to go all out. The atmosphere in the restaurant was fun and lively it's not a huge location but it fits a good amount of people. Our server was very attentive and nice. The drinks and draft beer were 10/10. The team is very eager to welcome you, and the large tables offer plenty of space for drinks and seafood. Dylan was fantastic. I cannot remember a time where I laughed so hard with a server, and we heard plenty of interesting stories and local restaurant and bar recommendations from them. Dylan was great with recommending oysters, too, and we settled on several varieties from multiple North American regions. They also brought us a lazy susan of hot sauces, so, of course, we played Hot Ones with oysters. The drinks were tasty, and I truly enjoyed myself here. You can tell how excellent the food quality is here, and I cannot wait to return on my next trip to Vancouver. My only feedback would be that Yaletown should generally have more patio dining. My group didn't make reservations for dinner because we weren't sure what time people would be hungry or where we would be wondering to. We initially wanted to check out Fanny Bay Oyster but they had no reservations available. So we called Rodney's to see if they had space for our group of 10 people. Half of us wanted to eat oysters, while the other half wanted to eat other food besides oysters. So I sat at the non-oyster eating table. -Ocean salad (5/5) - I've never had a seafood salad before, but this salad was so refreshing and nice to eat. Must order. -Atlantic lobster poutine (5/5) - Since we haven't gotten poutine in Vancouver yet, we might as well order some here. This dish was really good. I just keep eating it. Must order. -Hokkaido scallop pasta (5/5) - I love seared scallop anything. The pasta saucy was went really well with the linguine noodles. Must order. -Manilla clams (5/5) - The clams were really good. I don't usually order clams since not all restaurants do a good job with cleaning clams before cooking them. The clam sauce was really good, so we dipped some of the artisan bread that we ordered in the sauce! The restaurant was pretty busy. Another bach party also had a dinner celebration here.
