Rileys was such an unexpected surprise. Given its prime location at Canada Place I expected a completely overpriced tourist trap--that couldn't be farther from the truth. Upscale Atmosphere, impeccable service, and excellent food are a great starting point. Menu has something for everyone but they really excel at fresh fish dishes. We opted to start with a giant pot of mussels steamed the classic French way in butter white wine and garlic. Just fantastic. The Bronzino was superb served with fennel and roasted heirloom tomatoes. Seared halibut special was also fantastic. Ros was our server and really provided a wonderful customer experience. I would recommend asking to be seated away from large parties. I've been meaning to try Riley's for a very long time. Finally got the chance to try while celebrating my boyfriend's dad's birthday! The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous with lots of greenery and open windows for natural lighting. We ordered multiple dishes, all for sharing. We started strong with the brioche bread. My boyfriend's sister said she doesn't like bread, but she would definitely eat this! The lobster oil and house-whipped butter paired so beautifully that we could not stop eating the bread throughout dinner. The grand seafood tower contained half a crab, oysters, mussels/clams, prawns, and scallop crudo. I thought the tower was okay, as I'm not a big fan of oysters, but the crab was fresh! It would also make more sense to provide the crackers with the tower, as I was confused whether I needed to just crack it by hand. For mains, I did not manage to try the venison feature as I am not a fan of deer, but my boyfriend said it was okay. However, the porterhouse was delicious and cooked perfectly medium rare. I really liked the truffle mashed potatoes that accompanied it. Another dish I really loved was the rigatoni. It comes with pieces of lobster in the pasta and scallops/prawns on top. The sauce was savoury with a bit of spice, and the rigatoni was al dente. This is likely the dish I would order again (along with the brioche!). At the end of the night, we brought in a cake to be served. The server was kind to waive the cake-cutting fee. Just a note that for any diners who plan to bring a cake, a form has to be filled out. We were also given a complimentary dessert for my boyfriend's dad. It was a decadent chocolate cake with a creamy strawberry sauce. Sadly, we were too full to finish it all. Service was on point with regular water fills, plate changes, and check-ins. Since the price point is quite high, I think this is a great place for special occasions where splurging is needed. However, with a bigger party, sharing style can be more affordable for upscale dining. read more

For sure one of our fave restaurants in Vancouver! We went there for dinner on a Wednesday night and the place was packed. We were greeted by lovely hosts who immediately took our coats. We were then brought into the main dining room filled with beautiful lights and live music. You must order their famous garlic Gruyère brioche. It's a big piece of delightful bread served with garlic butter and lobster oil. You will not be disappointed. We had a VIP Amuse card from our concierge and boy were glad to taste the warm, mushroom risotto ball. We shared the lobster chowder for appetizer which was delicious. The hubby had the shrimp cocktail which he enjoyed. For entree, we ordered the branzino which was absolutely one of the best I've had! We also ordered the kid's chicken tenders for our son which was surprisingly delicious and we couldn't help ourselves to it. The batter was light and flavorful. It was my first time at Riley's for happy hour. There was so much to choose from the happy hour menu. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and I loved that there was a mocktail deal for happy hour too. We sat inside and it was beautiful, I loved the greenery and lighting. We walked in on a Saturday night and they were able to sit us immediately, but I think in the future we would make a reservation ahead of time just in case. The oysters were as expected: fresh and delicious. The Tuna Crudo was buttery, and our main dishes were to die for. The sablefish is probably the best thing we ate during our whole entire trip. The dessert? We fought over the last bite and wished we would've gotten one for each of us instead of sharing lol. Lastly, we sniped our drinks but that was the only thing that didn't blow us away. They were still good though! They had some live music and it was at a comfortable volume, and the ambiance was very relaxing. My new favorite oyster place! We came for Happy Hour and were seated in the covered outside patio area with heaters. The decor was nice throughout the whole restaurant. They were able to turn off/on the heaters if it got too hot or cold, which we asked them to do as my head was getting toasty. We came to celebrate a birthday, and they prepared a birthday card and dessert at the end of the meal! It was such a nice gesture! Reading off the receipt, I think our server's name was Hershey - she was absolutely lovely for the entire duration we were there. We ordered a dozen oysters to start off with, along with Beef Carpaccio, Brussels Sprouts, and a Spicy Tomato Cream Steamer. For drinks, I got a Cranberry Orange Fizz, and my boyfriend got a Red Sangria. Everything was delicious! The oysters were very good that day, so we ended up ordering another dozen. This place as good but not great. Server was fantastic and sommelier was super helpful. Food was decent. Carpaccio need a pinch of salt. Saw the table next to us get a nice mini salt tower for their steak, so I asked for some salt. Think I maybe asked a busser, was not our server. Was expecting the nice salt tower with a selection of gourmet sea salts. I got a generic salt shaker with table salt. Was a total let down. Service for drinks was really slow, and our appetizer came out before our cocktails. Food overall was good but nothing fabulous. The restaurant got really really hot as the meal went on. So much so that we noticed people around us also beginning to sweat at their tables like us. It got so hot I had to ask the server if their air conditioner was off or broken. It made the end of the meal a little uncomfortable. Anyway, huge restaurant, nice ambiance but nothing worth noting or coming back for. Overall just ok. read more

I brought my mom to Riley's Steak & Fish for lunch and was pleasantly surprised to discover they offer happy hour during the day--such an unexpected treat with amazing deals! First off, the space itself is stunning--elegant, bright, and beautifully designed, with a prime location that makes it perfect for a relaxed lunch or a classy night out. We sat in lounge and were lucky to be taken care of by Jenna (I suspect she may also be the bar manager). She was absolutely fantastic--knowledgeable, warm, fun and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. Her recommendations made our visit. Food Highlights: * The sliders were far larger and more impressive than expected--done smash burger style, juicy and full of flavor. Easily one of my favorite items. * The truffle fries were the perfect pairing: crispy, delicious, and dangerously addictive. * The Wagyu carpaccio was exceptional--silky, rich, and beautifully presented. * The calamari was also delicious, lightly crisped and seasoned just right. Their happy hour cocktail and wine list is extensive and well-curated, making it easy to find something to suit any mood. At Jenna's insistence, we "just tried a bite" of the chocolate cake--and I'm so glad we did. It was decadent, deeply chocolatey, and truly the perfect finale. Overall, it was a great experience. It was my casual business trip with friends; we were all dressed casually rather than formally or business-style. The server was a bit judgemental about our attire and appearance. Initially, he placed us in a corner table near the washroom but i politely declined. Then he changed the table and the waitress was much more friendly. The lobsters, steak and prawns were all delicious. A coworker of mine was moving and was having a going away meal. They picked Riley's and I was quite intrigued knowing the name from looking around previously. It's hard to miss that they note their Michelin Star in the display case at the front of the restaurant. I didn't actually see the inside of the restaurant as we were seated outside. We could hear the live entertainment provided by the restaurant, as well as the music played by someone else hanging around on the Seawall. It was a chill experience outside and we were able to talk with each other without much difficulty save for the random noisy vehicle here and there. We had the bread as a share for the group. It was very tasty and a bit richer than I was used to. The lobster oil was a nice touch. I ordered the steak & frites for myself. I appreciated the nice rocket salad it came up. The fries were very good and well seasoned. I'm struggling a bit to know how good the steak was...as I normally don't have fancy restaurant steaks this much. I think the sauces were nice and there was definitely a nice crust while eating it. It didn't cut exactly as smooth as butter as you would hear, but it wasn't tough to cut in any sense. I also felt it may have been a tad underseasoned? Nonetheless, very tasty. I had a pretty good experience at Riley's. It was a nice fancy level experience to try once in a while. I was trying to find a great place in Vancouver to celebrate a coworker's birthday, and after a bit of a search (using Yelp of course), I settled on Riley's. I called about a week ahead and made reservations for 8. Upon arrival, we were told to wait a few minutes while they finished our table, and we were brought to the back of the restaurant in a great location with large windows letting in plenty of light. The ambiance was great, well appointed but not fancy. We were given menus and all of us ordered drinks, which were dispatched in short order, my Martini was excellent! We ordered appetizers for the table, and I settled on Steak Frites. The other's orders ran the gamut, from seafood to steak to pasta. We also ordered wine, which was recommended and excellent. I had some seafood which was incredible and fresh, the Shrimp Cocktail was stunning. Then my steak arrived, it was perfectly cooked and the fries were hot and delicious. The steak came with a herb butter sauce which complimented the steak perfectly. I requested that while it was a birthday, we did not want all of the hullabaloo, just a dessert with a candle, which they did discreetly, and the group of us sang happy birthday to the person of the hour. All in all, the dinner was excellent and I will happily come back here again upon my next visit to Vancouver. read more

Came here for a group dinner. We had group menu with a few choices. I was able to try several things. Baguette with lobster oil and whipped butter: lobster oil and whipper butter were great. The bread itself was oiled on the bottom and too greasy. Caesar salad: average. Romaine was crisp and fresh, but croutons tasted borderline stale. Beef carpaccio - the sauces were overwhelming and thats all you could taste. Too much bread served with it too. Striploin - asked for medium rare (and suggested by server) but came out a solid medium in the very middle, and at least half of it was well-done.. And not just mine, but all of my tablemates had the same problem. Served with a side of mashed potatoes (average) and veg - carrots, broccolini; all the sides were bland. Cheescake with egg nog sauce - not a bad cheesecake but sadly way too much fig compote on it - excessively sweet and overpowering with fig flavour that you dont taste anything else. Lemon tart - filling was light and fresh, this was pretty good. Service was excellent, cant complain. The restaurant was beautiful. We had a private room which was also very nice. Its right across from the convention center so there is pay parking around but very pricey. Overall, for a place apparently specializing in steak, their steak was utterly disappointing and the food was overall a letdown for the price. I wouldnt come back. read more

A great fine dining experience with exceptional food and service. Visiting from California, and there were already many spots such as this to choose from, but glad to have landed at this place. It was my best friend's birthday also, and wanted something special. It rained during our visit to Vancouver, but that doesn't stop us from finding good food. The service was immediately obvious by taking our wet jackets and umbrellas. Side note, we already had a reservation so it didn't take long to have us seated. I've been here for brunch, happy hour, and dinner. My favorite is the dining room ambience at dinner time. The tables are far enough from each other that it feels private and relaxing with my friends. I love the mussels and clam and spicy tomato cream sauce. The mussels and clams are fresh and flavorful. I felt the food items at happy hour tasted average so I won't be back for those. Took one star off because I tried to get my coat through two different waitresses, and it felt stressful. The first waitress took my ticket and never returned with my coat. When I asked another waitress and explained to her the situation, she seemed unsure what to do, but she said she would go get my coat. But again, she did not return with my coat. Instead, I saw her standing around the dining room, like nothing had happened. I eventually went to the coat rack myself to get my coat. I don't expect perfect service, but I felt she should not have pretended that she would get my coat if she wasn't going to do it, or at least have the courtesy to update me so I could take care of it myself. read more

Took my boyfriend to Riley's, as he's never been, and went for Happy Hour. They took our coats and had a place to put our wet umbrella in and we were seated fairly quickly. Server came by to offer us still or sparkling water. We both ordered still water and my boyfriend ordered the beer on special. We got a dozen oysters, the tomato bacon steamer with mix of clams and mussels, truffle fries, and the chicken bites. Food arrived steadily one after another and we soon had a full table of food. We started with the truffle fries, which were fresh and delicious. Next came the steamer and we really enjoyed the tomato broth that had a little kick to it. Seafood was cooked perfectly . Oysters were also solid and were tasty. Chicken bites were average - some pieces were a little soggy and chicken partially dry on the inside and some pieces were crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Likely we will pass on this next time. Service was overall decent but I did have to wait until the end of the meal to get my glass of water refilled for the first time. Our server got caught up chatting with another table and I ended up drinking my boyfriend's glass of water, after emptying mine, while he nursed his beer. Overall, we enjoyed our Happy Hour and it came out to $70 for 2 people including tax but not tip. That's pretty good seeing that we easily spend the same amount just on oysters and a beer at Fanny Bay restaurant for Happy Hour. read more

Rileys does not disappoint! The BC salmon is one of their selling points among a very intimate table setup, and ambiance. One of the besr grilled salmons i ever had. The texture, juicyness, taste, and marbling is apparent in every bite. Cooked medium rare (the only way to cool salmon imo), it is a delight. The stablefish is also very good, maybe even more flavorful with its own fatty taste. Had a great time here with the team. read more

It's a very nice place, service is great, and location is beautiful. Food is ok. I'd recommend for a fancy night out because it feels elevated. But the food is not that special. They have the fancy items, but they don't stand out from other places, and they come at the usual price tag too. We had the large seafood tower. The scallop and shrimp were the best part. I'd recommend ordering those without the rest of the tower. We had a great time, but nothing to rave about. read more

Dining room is huge but noise level is not very high. On weekend nights they have live music. Dining room design is modern. Front desk staff are very helpful for reservations and recommendations. birthday things i started my birthday weekend with riley's - happy hour with my mom! everyone was super sweet and wished me a (early) happy birthday. shoutout to our lovely server, dustin, who was super nice and helpful. the fact that my mom slipped him a little something something when we left - that says it right there riley's is at a perfect location - right near the water, across from the convention centre and it's easily accessible by transit so you don't have to wry abt driving after having a few drinks. now onto the food and drinks - we had simple cocktails (g&t) and a glass of bubbly to celebrate my special day. my mom rly liked the bubbly so the next time i'm at the liquor store - i'll def rmb to grab a bottle we didn't order a lot for food cuz there was a bit of a carb overload (without meaning to ). we were pleasantly surprised with the wagyu carpaccio - the beef melted in our mouths and my mom loved the taste (and crunch) of the fried onion garnish. i ordered the riley's brioche frm the normal menu - you MUST order this the next time you're here!! the butter that came with the bread was DELISH. we also had some steamed mussels - mom and i prefer the chambar ones more but these were still good in a pinch. as we were wrapping up, dustin surprised us with the birthday cake - it was a raspberry opera cake this was a pleasant surprise and treat as we were too full for dessert the cake wasn't too sweet - the best compliment that one can get frm asians after my experience, i can def see why this was michelin recommended whether it's a special occasion or a simple get together, riley's will make you feel welcomed! i'm excited to come back and try the seafood tower! read more

The positives: The service was very good, and very friendly. They were immediately very engaging with us. When we told them we were in Vancouver on vacation, they asked us where we were staying, and where we were from, and conversed with us on those topics. We also noticed that someone at another table ordered a steak, and they showed them the steak before they cooked it! I have seen that done with lobsters, but steak? Not sure if that is the policy of Riley's to do that, or if it was a difficult customer who asked to see the steak before it was cooked. The not-so-goods: The food was good, but not great, and at the prices you pay, you want the quality to be better. My wife and I both ordered the lobster chowder. I really liked it, but my wife was indifferent. For our main courses, she had the seafood rigatoni, which she found a bit too spicy but thought the seafood tasted fresh, especially the prawns. I ordered something listed as the salmon "steak." I was expecting a thick piece of salmon, but received something that I would classify as something closer to a filet. While it was good, it wasn't something all that different from what I make for myself every 1-2 months. Also, this place was very loud, and it was often hard to have a conversation with my wife during our meal. Now, it could have been that we had the unfortunate luck to sit near two very loud tables, but one of the tables, the table for eight, was very, very close to where we sat. Maybe put some more distance between the tables. So to summarize, really great service, but the food wasn't great, and at those prices, you expect better. Was I happy I went there? Yes, I was. Would I go back there again? Yes, I would. But we would definitely order different things if we went back. read more
