People at our hotel here in Beaver Creek told us that Hooked was the bomb. I was suspect, though, since their Yelp rating was 2.5 stars. But we thought we'd give it a try. We went there last night, and sat ourselves outside where we could listen to the outdoor music the village was putting on. All was wonderful, but then it went downhill from there. It started off with the somewhat odd server we had. Little things like, we asked, do you have rice? He said no. But then my wife pointed it out on the menu. I started off with an Old Fashioned cocktail, as I heard they made great drinks there. It was just barely okay, but pretty watered down. My wife had a martini which was fine. The server highly suggested their most popular starter, the CRIMPSTER (CRab, shrIMP, lobSTER). And it was bolded on the menu. I was hesitant since this was a $26 starter, but we ordered it. I was disappointed at the size of it, and while it tasted very good, can't say that I really tasted much lobster at all. But it simply was way too small for $26. I highly suggest avoiding ths. After that, we had the Dynamite Shrimp Nachos. These were also highly recommended by the server, and also by what looked to be the manager. And, looking as three images (by same person) of it here on Yelp, it looked like tons of shrimp on lots of chips. Hardly. In the image we saw you could barely see the chips for the shrimp. But it was the opposite on our disk, hunting for the shrimp. And there weren't even many chips. I wish we had taken a photo of it to post there so others don't get fooled. That's when we decided to ask for the check and get out of there. Maybe other things are better -- they are famous I guess for their whole fish -- but the items we had were recommended to us from the staff, and still they were not worthy of paying the prices for. read more

DON'T BOTHER! We've been to Hooked three times now, the first two visits were wonderful! Remembering how much fun we had and the fabulous whole fish, we booked again. While choosing our whole fish, the waitress seemed to have a memorized description of each and was unable to describe any details or opinions. We chose the most expensive fish as the whole trip was booked for a "Hooked" experience. It was a small fish & we chose the sushi preparation, chefs choice. We knew there would likely be only 2 courses as it was a very small fish but having spent $200 we were excited. The first plate arrived, 8 bite size pieces in a soy based sauce. UNDERWHELMING to say the least. The second and final dish, Ceviche and chips, yes!! $200 fish made into Ceviche. No idea what the fish even tasted like, we were hugely upset. A $300 dinner (Tip not included) and not a single dish was even close to exceptional. We were given a $40 gift certificate, not even half the price of the fish we ordered. The whole experience was such an unexpected disappointment. New owners or management? I will tell anyone who asks, Hooked is absolutely a waste of money. Excellent meal--terrific service, but the fresh fish to serve model is a bit confusing and overwhelming. In addition to the regular menu items, a fish expert brings over 5-6 types of fish they are serving fresh. They were a unique collection, and all sounded good. The challenge was that the servings are based on the size of the fish--a large fish I gathered you pay more (they do recycle leftovers into sushi), and a smaller fish less--however some fish it seemed could only serve two people, and there was never a price provided on anything. A dining couple next to us seemed extremely pleased with their choices, which were served with the full fishhead and tail--not a big deal unless you think it's a big deal; something to be aware of. My partner's sushi was top-rate, and my scallops were the most tender I've ever had. Service in general was great, and I highly recommend the place. My recommendation would be to rethink the way the 'fish of the day' is presented. You can tell they try and keep it simple in terms of preparation, but the fish choices and prices are confusing. read more

Hooked catered our wedding in Vail. They worked with me to find the right meal for our budget. We had paella cooked fresh at our reception site and vegetarian ceviche. Smelling the spices cook while we drank beer and talked was a wonderful and unique experience. The food was outstanding (we still get compliments!), and the service was five star. This is absolutely my favorite seafood restaurant anywhere- which is a weird thing to say about a place in the mountains. We've been here 4 times in the past month for both lunch and dinner. The best things: How creative their kitchen is! Their catch is flown in daily and they don't always know what their monger has chosen to include for them which makes for something of a 'Chopped' vibe - for those of you familiar with the show. The last dinner we had there, we chose two whole fish- the grunt and the 'veal of the sea' the Hiramasa. Typically, you choose your fish and your preparation. We did so, but also were happy to allow the kitchen some creative leeway to take half of each fish and surprise with small plate preparations as they saw fit. From sashimi, to ceviche (outstanding!), to gazpacho and sushi, they did not disappoint. The remaining fish was prepared as we requested and the presentation was thoughtful and utterly professional. These people really care about their craft and it shows. It was a delightful dinner. It's just always a fun place and you know they know their food. The wine list is also very good. The thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars: The service. While everyone is absolutely friendly- the quality of service is inconsistent. The last dinner we had, our sever was more attentive than in the past but still forgot two of our side dish orders and it was excruciatingly slow. The first dinner we had was even slower and our server was MIA for most of the time we were there. I think they must have a very small kitchen and, because of the time and attention they give to their food, it is easily overwhelmed. We arrived around six and enjoyed a lovely dinner with an excellent server, Adam. However the problem occurred a little after 7 when the hostess very rudely came over and told us we had to leave (we still had dishes on the table and were enjoying a lovely visit). We were shocked as she promptly cleared our table and put the check in front of us. Our waiter then came over and asked if we wanted more drinks or dessert, he was terribly embarrassed and very apologetic when we told him the situation. We asked to speak to the manager and he further pushed us out the door and told us he could have just refused to seat us but instead decided he was going to seat us and then kick us out. Overall the food was good, Adam was excellent. Management should learn customer service or how to better do his job and the hostess should lay off the nasty perfume and figure out organization in a restaurant setting. The only reason for not four or even five stars was the whole waiting staff and atmosphere was not the best. Our waitress was very rude when we were asking about the fish they had that day. Overall she was just very snotty through our meal. Not only this but at the end when we were signing the check we went to leave a tip and not only did they ask for a tip but also for a kitchen tip. My family and i thought this was quite rude as our bill was already over five hundred dollars. This might be my bad but i have never seen a restaurant do this and when you are already paying a lot for the meal is just seems odd to ask for two tips. The owner Riley grew up here in the Vail area. He and his staff are super friendly and take the sushi excellence to the next level. Yes it is expensive but if you knew what rent was for restaurants and stores in Beaver Creek the stores have to charge a little more to cover their costs. Phenomenal culinary experience!! Stumbled upon Hooked while visiting Beaver Creek and were simply amazed. We started with the tuna poky and then opted for the whole... we complexly forgot the name of the fish but maybe you can figure it out from the picture...but it was out of this world! The chef prepared half grilled over lemon (meat style) and the other half was prepared in six different ways from sashimi to fried. We were so excited to try this restaurant, but everyone in our party of six walked away disappointed after our meal. It seemed that once we decided not to order the $300+ fish from the fishmonger that our table was snubbed. The service was poor, especially for the menu prices. One would expect to receive top notch service when paying $40+ per entree, but that was not the case. Our server had four tables and was overwhelmed. She brought a glass of wine to someone in our party that he had not ordered and poured it into his glass. When he told her that he did not order it, she shrugged her shoulders and then charged him for it. Two of us ordered a $40 fish entree, and it arrived in small pieces, similar to nuggets, not a filet, and lacked flavor. We had to order additional sauce in order to add taste to the dish. The staff at Hooked may be the rudest staff I have ever encountered in my entire life. In a place and service economy where the customer is typically right, this establishment treats you like you are always wrong. I made a reservation on Open Table to eat at this restaurant on my birthday after prior attempts to eat there were interrupted by their fire alarm going off and them failing to have a table ready within 30 minutes of a previously booked reservation. You might think the third time is the charm, right? Well, not at Hooked. After making a reservation for 8 people at 9:45 p.m. on a Friday night via Open Table, we arrive and the restaurant manager tells us that they can only seat 6. There was open seating for 8 people at the front of the restaurant. Granted it was a 6 top and a 2 top --- but the manager did not even offer to split up our party. He simply refused to seat our party because he said it was too large. He refused to seat our party despite having made a reservation for a party of 8 via Open Table. He refused to seat our party despite having adequate seating in the restaurant to seat our party. When I told the manager and hostess that it was my birthday --- they didn't bat an eyelash or make an accommodation. They encouraged us to eat somewhere else. It was as if the restaurant did not want our business. This place is officially the worst customer service in Beaver Creek. Not worth the attitude. read more

After reading the good reviews we decided to try this restaurant located at BC village plaza. We had CO Bass it was not the whole fish but a smallish size fillet. Everything is a la carte. Basically my fillet was $25 I finished in a few bites. Most importantly taste was decent but nothing special. We have had better quality sushi from Whole Food. Sushi was really poorly done. We have been patrons since Hooked opened in Beaver Creek. There have been some hiccups over the years but tonight's meal was rock solid. Anne our server has always been warm and welcoming. The whole fish - we got the Tai snapper prepared 2 ways. Sashimi and Nigiri for the first 1/2 and flash fried with sweet miso glaze for the second 1/2. This place was such a letdown. It's an awkward combination of sushi meets Mexican music meets a failed attempt at a New England fish market. We went in with hopes of having a tasty classic lobster roll-one where you can actually taste the lobster and the complimenting soft Texas toast. It's the whole reason we picked this place for lunch. Unfortunately, we were sadly met by a mixture of lobster coated in heavy sauce served on a hard sour dough hoagie roll. And the sauce was so overwhelming that you couldn't even taste the lobster. Had I known that they were going to serve a classic dish with a twist, I would have asked them not to smother it in sauce, but the menu made no mention of it. After bringing the last prepared bowl from our fish the waiter told us this was the final preparation and asked if we wanted more rolls. We said no we were fine and then he brought out the final course which we were unaware would be served. Without doubt the lowlight of our visit to Beaver Creek. We ordered the whole fish catch of the day prepared as sashimi and the remaining fish portion flash-fried and covered with a chimichurri sauce. It cost $75 and was only enough to serve as an appetizer for ONE person. We ordered a side of rice to offset all the fishy-ness. It arrived after we were finished with our fish dinner. The miso soup to start was unremarkable and nothing special. The wilted vegetable side dish was a sad spinach overwhelmed by a heavy onion dressing. We were SO disappointed. We recently visited Hooked and could not believe this little gem in the middle of Beaver Creek! WOW! This restaurant is like no other seafood restaurant have ever been to. We had heard the rumors floating around the valley about Hooked, so had to check it out. We were a group of 9 "foodies" and "wine lovers" so expectations were high! Our table was not ready, but we had ordered some champagne ahead of time to be chilled and Tommy the sommelier brought us all a glass while we waited. Just what the Dr. ordered. Once seated Riley the owner and Chris the Fish Monger came out and shared the "fresh fish of the day". This was so fascinating and he really knew his fish! Tommy and Kai our waitress got us rolling into some of their specialty rolls...XTC seemed to be the fave. The atmosphere is cozy, not too upscale...mountain comfortable I would say. The Red Snapper came out in various forms and it was delicious. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of nigiri and sushimi, but the fish was amazing. Every garnish and sauce were complimentary to the fish, enhancing the flavors and not overpowering. Kai our waitress was "on it". The service was superb. I have seen some reviews that say the prices were on the high side. Personally, if I am eating fish I am looking for the best quality fish possible. Our Snapper was off the charts...Riley's fish is so fresh and hand caught. He can even tell you the name of the fisherman that caught it... Worth every penny.... If you visit Beaver Creek make sure to visit Hooked. It's a fun and delicious dining experience. We cannot wait to go back! Another wonderful night at Hooked. Did two whole fish half raw, half cooked. The New Zealand Tai cooked Szechuan style and Baby Japanese Tile Fish cooked beach style. We were excited to try Hooked after recommendations and reviews. Unfortunately, there is way too much hype over the place and it simply wasn't very good. We tried five different sushi rolls and although they were edible, that's about all I can say for them because they simply had no flavor. I'm only giving two stars because like I said, it was "edible". And the basic, bland sushi rolls were WAY over priced at $18-22 per roll. There is also one unisex bathroom that looked like it had exploded in toiled paper and paper towels and nobody ever thought it might me a good idea to empty the trash. This place was so not worth it. If you are into a bar style atmosphere with overpriced, tasteless sushi, then this may be your kind of place. read more

We came in and tried to get seating, just four of us, and was turned away from an EMPTY restaurant. At least three tables were completely clear. We arranged for a reservation for 5 the next day, because apparently the only way to get into this place is by reservation, and the only availability they had was 5 and 9:45. So the snobby hostess took our information, we left and came back for our reservation the next day. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS RIDICULOUS. We came in for our reservation. We were asked our last name, and how many people. We said 4, and were lead to our seats. We ended up waiting ten minutes for a waitress, and while waiting, we noticed 6 people hovering around the table we had settled in at. The waitress came over and began to take our order, and the host came to pull her aside in the MIDDLE of our order. Then he came over and asked us to MOVE TO ANOTHER TABLE BECAUSE THEY RESERVED THAT TABLE FOR ANOTHER GROUP. Yeah, right. One of the men who was waiting for us to move so they could occupy our table came over with lots of sarcasm, and the host just stood by and waited for us to move. Absolutely ridiculous. On top of that, all of the staff was VERY rude, with only the exception of our waitress, she was perfectly sweet and understanding. The only recompense we were offered was a quick 5 second apology by the manager. As the whole night was ruined by the imbecile host and the rude patrons, food quality was irrelevant completely. I can't believe I waited this long to post a review for Hooked. My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our meal here. Came for lunch with his family after skiing. I a small salad with poached lobster and a cucumber wrapped riceless roll with an assortment of fish and avocado. Both the salad and the roll were exceptionally fresh and delicious. My boyfriend had a couple pieces of tuna nigiri (he said probably the best he has had) and some sort of spicy sauteed shrimp, which he was a big fan of. Needless to say, we will be back here next time we visit Beaver Creek. However, because the place is small and is central to the resort, I highly recommend calling in advance. read more
