I came to Hooked in hopes of a good seafood lunch. However, all I got was an expensive disappointment. I initially ordered the Lobster Salad Roll. However, after mentioning my food allergies, potato and tomato, I was informed that the roll was potato bread. I was also informed that some other options were a no-go. At this point, I was impressed that the person manning the cash register knew the ingredients of the food they sold. This is typically a good sign and demonstrates that restaurant staff are well trained and knowledgeable! Thus, I ended up ordering the Whole Local Steamed Lobster, which came with mussels and corn. Since I also wanted coleslaw, I added that onto my order. In total, my meal, with tip, cost me $64.20. For $64, I was expecting something spectacular. However, that hope was quickly erased upon receiving my food. While the lobster tasted fresh, and the coleslaw was exceptionally good, the mussels ruined the meal for me. In particular, the mussels were clearly not fresh. With my food sitting in front of me, I could smell a very distinct fishy smell; sifting through the mussels, some of them smelled like a dumpster with rotting fish! This place definitely saved the day more than once or twice when we were in Montauk, which I'm now convinced is my least favorite place in the world. I was there in hell on the Fourth of July weekend learning that I am not a montauk person and never want to return. Among my many frustrations that weekend was the fact that restaurants were overbooked, mediocre, and incredibly expensive. Don't even get me started on the two hours I waited for the world's worst bagel and smoothie from Joni's after a friend recommended it for some reason that's unbeknownst to me. Anyway, the best of the worst is Hooked for sure, which is to say that it's affordable and decent food that you can get in Montauk in under 20 minutes or so. Maybe my bar is on the floor, but I was unable to find any other edible $20 food in Montauk. It's basically either Hooked or 7/11 if you need something fast and reasonably cheap. The food was totally decent, don't get me wrong - the crab cakes I had, despite being maybe 10% crab, were fine, the fries were good, and the burgers were above average. The soups were unusually good - probably the best thing I tried on the menu. Especially the lobster bisque. The girls working were kind despite being completely unhelpful when we asked even the simplest questions about the menu. They take card with a small surcharge and serve beer and wine I believe. No seating inside. I believe there is typically some outside but the weekend we were there was 60 degrees and raining (of course) so we didn't partake in it, and just took our food back to our $800/night hotel to enjoy. The coleslaw was horrible though, I have no idea why they would put that out. It was really, really bad. The fish tacos were dry. When visiting the fair shores of Long Island, one must seek out lobster rolls. And today's peregrinations brought us allll the way out to almost the tippity tip of this well named island. The venue for today's lunch was Hooked. Small but mighty, it offers all one might desire of a lobster/clam/fish shack - namely lobster, clam, and fish. And the other odds and ends that make up a meal. On our tray today was a double helping of sweet potato fries, crab cakes, the Hooked version of a New England lobster roll and a serving of clam chowder. Classic. The lobster roll came on a fresh bun, untoasted and unbuttered. The lobster meat was very lightly seasoned with mayo and sported enough celery bits for a nice crunch. The amount can be seen in my pic - it was a generous fill. And at $27 it was definitely on the less expensive side (yes, lobster rolls have become crazy costly). The crab cakes were nicely seasoned and also of a generous size. Both were highly satisfying. The only small glitch was a bit of lobster shell in my roll. It happens. The clam chowder was thick with clams and potatoes and had a medium consistency, not too thin and not gluey. Just right, in other words. A lobster roll, a lobster meal, some New England Clam Chowder, crab cakes--french fries. The meal vacation and dreams are made of really. The wait for the meal was long--at least a half hour, but worth it. The lobster was delicious -- although slightly overdone (rubbery)--the lobster roll was perfect. We took a nice road trip out to east on a Monday so traffic was non existent and the weather was perfect. (lucky us) after finding this place from previous yelpers reviews i decided we grab a quick bite to eat here. Wow what a great find!! Thanks yelpers. After visiting this little place we were so impressed with the food. they have plenty of picnic tables set up with umbrellas for seating safely as we slowly get back to normalcy. masks were required for ordering, they also provided single use kiosk pen that the dirty ones will get sanitized. we ordered the fish and chips, the flounder was fresh from the hampton water with such a light a crispy batter! that homemade tartar sauce should be bottled we practically licked the container dry. the lobster mac and cheese had decent amount of lobster chunks, and the New England Clam Chowder had the perfect size clams to go with the small bits of potatoes in it. great drink selection i enjoyed he Rose canned wine. would definitely stop back again for that fish and chips!! read more

Tiny but mighty! Picked up food for takeaway - love the thought you can do takeaway for the beach - or they have picnic tables. Simple but powerful menu. Lobster rolls were OVERFLOWING w lobster meat and on a crispy bun, crab cakes crispy and the kale Caesar salad was fresh and hearty. This place is great! Quietly tucked off the main strip in Montauk you'll find a bunch of cute blue picnic benches to sit and eat. Ordered inside and they brought everything out super quick. The lobster roll was a generous serving of lobster (no shells anywhere to be found!). The rolls were tasty fresh and roasted. The coleslaw was delicious too. We tried all the desserts- tiramisu, key lime pie and salted caramel cheesecake. All were delicious and the salted caramel cheesecake was the star knockout. We visited Hooked for the weekend lunch. We ordered the Tuna bites and Fried Calamari and the staff brought our order to the table. I have to say the Tuna bites were the best-fried food I've ever had. They were absolutely delicious. I will definitely come back here for more Tuna bites. However, I was disappointed by the fried camalari. The batter tasted fine but there wasn't enough calamari. The calamari was super small and didn't have much to chew. It wasn't worth it. I truly wanted to love this place, but was so disappointed. We order a mahi mahi sandwich, lobster macaroni and cheese and drinks. The sandwich was good, the fish was cooked really well and had great flavor to it! I was a little surprised that the sandwich didn't come with some type of sauce and that was it was quite literally fish, lettuce, tomato and bun. Onto the macaroni and cheese...I'm half convinced this was microwaved from a Banquet frozen meal. The breadcrumbs on top didn't do anything for the flavor but give it a burned taste. There was lots of lobster in it, but it was soupy and artificial tasting. We ended up using it to dip our fries in rather than eat. Last part, to no fault of the restaurant but it was SO windy outside. This was my favorite place that we ate at during our recent trip to Montauk! Hooked is a quaint and unassuming outdoor dining establishment in the heart of Montauk. It was so good that we had lunch and dinner there on the same day! 1. Clam strips: I used to think that you can't go wrong with anything fried until I had clam strips at another restaurant in Montauk that were burned and almost inedible. The clam strips here were perfection- lightly fried, not greasy, delicious with the accompanied tartar sauce. The fries were nothing special but overall still good. 2. Lobster Roll: I'm usually not a fan of lobster salad and prefer my lobster rolls warm with butter on the side. But I might have to change my mind after eating the lobster salad roll at Hooked. The lobster was cooked to perfection and there just the right amount of Mayo (issues I've had in the past with lobster salad is that there is too much Mayo but that was not the case here). This my favorite thing that I tried here. 3. New England Clam Chowder: had this for dinner and it was delicious! The chowder was creamy and light with generous amounts of clam. It was a good appetizer but definitely not a meal on its own. 4. Fish Tacos: overall was ok. The salsa on the tacos was delicious but they were not the best tacos I've had. Comes with two tacos and there was generous amount of fish in there. They have a local beer selection from the Montauk Brewing Company which was fun to try. Seating is outdoors and there's plenty in the front and on the side. Does get crowded during lunch hours. Also, some menu items were not available. We were looking forward to trying the soft shell crab but they didn't have it (was not a great season for soft shell crabs).
