We've visited Hooks & Fish a few times now, mainly because of their grilled options. That's really what keeps bringing us back--our group consistently orders grilled, and the food itself has always been satisfying. We haven't explored the fried items or much else on the menu, so we can only speak to that side, but in that regard, no complaints. That said, the overall experience as a customer especially when you're unfamiliar with the area or just stopping in between meetings or on a lunch break--needs improvement. After ordering and paying, being directed to leave the line, drive around multiple corners and blocks, and then return just to find parking (which can take 30+ minutes) is frustrating and impractical. It turns what should be a quick and convenient stop into a time-consuming hassle. Another ongoing issue is consistency with the grilled group option. Even though it's listed (and often stapled to the menu), we find ourselves having to ask about it almost every visit. Many times it's unavailable--they've run out, it's not being offered that day, or there's some other reason it can't be ordered. That kind of uncertainty makes it difficult to plan, especially when that's the main reason we choose to come here. From a business standpoint, there should be a more efficient system in place for handling customer flow and parking, along with better consistency and communication around menu availability. The food keeps us interested, but the logistics and unpredictability make it difficult to justify stopping in regularly. In short: great grilled options when available, but the ordering process and overall experience need serious rethinking. read more

Hooks Fish has a snapper and fries combo for $16.99. However, I don't like fries, so I asked the counter girl if I could swap the fries for okra, and she said yes. I didn't place my order right away because I was still unsure, and when I made up my mind, the manager helped me, and I ordered the snapper combo, but swapped the fries for okra. When he gave me the receipt, I realized the total bill was higher than it should have been, and I saw that he hadn't swapped the fries and had overcharged me. I asked him why he overcharged me when the counter girl told me I could swap them. He told me he couldn't do that. I told him that was ridiculous because I don't eat fries and would have to throw them away, and he said he'd only sell it to me that way. So I canceled everything and left... the customer service was terrible!!!!!! read more

Hook's is a hole in the wall restaurant off Hillsboro. The building is a bit run down, but the food makes up for that. We tried the fried shrimp, the chicken nuggets, and the chicken tenders. The fried shrimp was absolutely excellent. The chicken nuggets are essentially big chunks of chicken breast, similar to the tenders. They were served fresh and very hot, so hot in fact that we felt the chicken tasted better after cooling down for 15 minutes or so. It's nice this place has a drive-thru. Not too many places carry fried chicken blizzards and liver. I happen to really like them. That was the reason I tried this place. I ordered them both and a small chicken strip dinner with fries. I did not think the food had a lot of flavor. The gizzards, liver, and chicken strips were not crunchy either. It was not bad. It was just not what I expected to taste. The meal came with a spicy sauce and a coleslaw. The food was hot and so it was cooked fresh. It took a few minutes to get it. The service was good. Yeah, yeah, yeah! Can't even front, been scoping this place out for a couple of days. Let me tell you how much I'm not disappointed. I usually go inside for meals like this, but I did drive through. The young woman who took my order was very patient, as she explained the options I had for what I was requesting. I went with a meal that consisted of one piece of fish, five shrimp, two wings and I added one wing. Since I ordered it and waited for it to cook. Very fresh!! The taste of everything was spectacular. The fish crispy and flavorful. The shrimp not fried to hard and crunchy. Along with the wings crispy to perfection. Everything tasted great, not over powering with flavor or bland. Barely needed tartar sauce or ketchup for the fries. I really enjoyed it, let me know how you feel. Highly upset i spent $27 here just now, just to be disappointed in the food the quality was not up to par for me . My food i didn't even get to enjoy presentation was not it. I ordered the 10 piece wings combo with fries and extra seasoning and the 2 pieces of catfish which i wanted alone and a cup of sweet tea. The wings i didn't like how they looked or how it tasted 3/10 , the coleslaw smelt funny ,i wanted a sweet tea they didn't have any large cups so i settled for a small instead and changed it to lemonade with fruit punch. I'm always satisfied with the catfish filets. It's a little hole in the wall restaurant but It's my go to when I just wanna peace of fish. One thing that may be a turn off is the line. It goes sooooooo slow lol. You can have one or two people in front of you and it's still super slow. I've never known it to go fast but the food is hot and delicious. read more

This is the second time I've visited Hook Seafood on a business trip. Last time I had the snapper, but this time I tried the catfish. As you can see from the picture, the fillets are quite large. The cornmeal coating was perfect and not greasy at all. I was not impressed with the fries as they were very soggy and had little flavor. They were the same as last time, so expect the same. The cole slaw was vinegar based and very good. The tarter sauce was in packets and it was terrible. They really should make their own tarter sauce as it is almost insulting to the quality of the seafood to serve those packets. Having fresh made tarter sauce is a great selling point. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I made an online order. Using their website I chose wings grouper and shrimp with for one plate and then a different combo number I chose conch and grouper with fries. When I got back home from picking it up it was the same plate of a ton of rubbery conch (not good way over cooked). I went back and they did not want to open the door saying they are closed. I was pointing at my food in my hand and they came to the door. They say open til 2am and it was only 9 pm. So I told the short Punjabi that I was given 2 of the same combo and I ordered 2 different combos. He yelled at me and told me there is nothing he can do for me, I also ordered my fries to be cooked hard and they were soggy and floppy, what a waste of time and money. I must have passed this place over 100 times throughout the years and wondered if it was good. Last week I finally tried it and was surprised how good it was. It was not the best fried seafood I have ever had, but was damn tasty. I had the Fried conch and shrimp with fries. They were happy to oblige. As I was getting my food, I asked the person helping for another little bag so I could put the fries in the bag for my daughter and she said, hold on. She disappeared for a couple seconds and brought a small serving in a bag for my daughter. She said, so you don't have to stop and separate the fries and it's easier for you. This seems like a super small thing, and in reality, it is, but it says something about their service and environment. Fish was lightly breaded and seriously melt in your mouth fresh, shrimp were wonderful, cheese sticks were perfectly cooked and cheese nice and stretchy & temperature was perfect. Banana pudding was nice and cold but pudding is FLAVORED banana with mills wafers-not one slice of actual bananas (wish we knew before ordering). Love the concept of a drive-through fried seafood and chicken place! You just have to be prepared for a short wait for your food, as they are literally frying everything to order. It was almost 10 minutes before we got our food, which is very normal for a restaurant, but if you're using the McDonald's drive-through as a speediness standard you will be disappointed. Ordered the fried catfish (they said catfish and tilapia are their most popular fish items) and fried conch plates, and an appetizer sized order of fried oysters. The appetizer came with 5 fried oysters sitting on a piece of white bread (to keep them from getting soggy), and a spicy mayo-based sauce on the side. The first bite was interesting - the batter is very thick and salty but inside is a soft, tasty oyster! Crazy texture combination but I was very happy with them. The conch was a little chewy, but not off-putting. The catfish was definitely my favorite as it was more lightly breaded than the other two dishes. Both of the plates came with a gigantic mound of very salty fries, some nice cole slaw, more of that spicy sauce, hot sauce, and packets of tartar sauce and ketchup. Yum! read more

Although the food may be good, the prices and portions are rediculous. The "side salad" comes in this tiny 2 oz dressing container. Rip off. Prices are different at the restaurant than they are online. Online menu shows that large fries are $2.99, but they're actually $7.99 at the restaurant. Also the staff is very rude. I was overcharged (lunch specials are also $2 more expensive at the restaurant than the online prices show) and gave the clerk my card so she can refund me the overcharged amount, and instead she charged me more and refused to fix it! So I had to dispute with my bank. I will not be returning. There are plenty of good restaurants, the people that run this place may know how to cook, but they have no morals. read more

Heard good things about this place and specially the conch salad. Went to try them the other day spent 10 minutes waiting for someone to speak at the drive through.. Ordered the conch salad. You can't really exit out of the drive through to go inside when theres a car in front of you due to how small the parking lot is.
